Her Doctorate in Ministry studies focused on preaching, particularly where it can effect transformation, within and in the world, through small steps and minor shifts. She began her nearly three decades of active ministry with the people of Claresholm-Stavely Pastoral Charge in rural southern Alberta. Since 2007, she has served the people of Wall Street United Church in eastern Ontario. Her active ministry has led her to working within the wider church, chairing Pastoral Relations in Foothills Presbytery, serving as President of Bay of Quinte Conference, and working on the Eastern Ontario Outaouais Regional Council Transition Commission. She also inspires and nurtures church leaders' faith through clergy retreats, workshops and preaching conferences. She lives in Brockville, Ontario, with her husband and youngest of her four children ranging in age from 15 to 27 years and Salty the dog. Our carnality seems to ebb and flow like the tide. It never truly dies. We gain momentum and then lose it. We must have vision to keep moving forward in our spiritual life. The more we can see in our mind the more real it becomes. Matthew 5, 6 and 7 are a synopsis of what is needed for true Christianity. When one rejects the law they are rejecting the mind of God and cannot ever be deeply converted. This is the final sermon in the series of fulfilling the Christian calling. If deep conversion is your goal you will want to listen to all 6 sermons in this series.

God has called us to be dominion takers, multipliers, and disciple makers. All of these endeavors necessitate strength and endurance. While spiritual disciplines should be preeminent in our lives (1 Timothy 4:8), physical exercise is also a necessity because it aids in our self-mastery, and it prolongs our life and ministry. True happiness is the product of this equation, "If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them." John 13:17. People pay for what they don't know,. "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge." Hosea 4:6. Happiness begins with knowledge. We were created to imitate or become like God. How can you separate true happiness from your calling?

If you are hungry you pursue what you are hungry for. You cannot fulfill your Christian calling without hunger and thirst for righteousness. How hungry and thirsty are we for the spiritual things of God? We must keep coming to the table. God will see that it's filled.

By Rick Beam in Rome, GA - November 4, 2023 - As members and ministers we have not always conducted ourselves in a Godly manner in our roles, relationships and responsibilities. Carnality is reflected in these three things. "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven" Matt. 5:3. Being poor in spirit is the beginning of the Christian calling. It is a recognition of need and humility to go about addressing that need. Many have lost sight of their need. Pride blinds one's eyes and blocks God. It prevents one from seeing or admitting one's true needs. Pride prevents the fulfilling of our Christian calling and pride cannot come back in.

I was raised in a culture that taught me that God had a calling on my life. Now, while that is true in one sense, the way it was taught to me was that God was going to use me to do earth-shattering feats, such as take over Hollywood or evangelize Europe. Like many of you, life went on and as I entered my 20's and 30's, I started to realize that my life was a lot more “normal” than I expected. I felt discouraged, blamed myself and felt as if God had tricked me. Since then, I've done a lot of processing and have now redefined what my “calling” means. I'm joined by Eric Hyde, a licensed therapist, who was also raised in the same stream of Christianity that I was. He brings a unique understanding between what is meant by “calling” vs. “meaning."
