*****I DO NOT OWN THE RIGHTS TO ANY MUSIC PLAYED IN THIS EPISODE*****Influenced by icons such as Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and Earth, Wind and Fire, Royce Hall (Chinyelu Alimayu) is an Atlanta based recording artist, performance poet, author, actor/screenplay writer, multi-instrumentalist, MC, vocalist, composer, songwriter, arranger, activist and public speaker. As an actor, Royce can be seen as a lead character in stageplays and series/films such as Zora! Let the People Sing, Beyond Betrayal, Lying In Bed, See Me, Seen, Refracted Reflections, Eden's Garden and much more. Since the completion of volume one of his sophomore EP series, 'FIFTH: Dapper Liberation', songs such as 'Blue In June', 'My Air' and 'So Much' are winning the hearts of listeners near and far. Over the years, Royce's infectious live performances have afforded him opportunities to open for artists such as Brian McKnight, Talib Kweli, The Floacist, KRS One, K. Michelle, Donnell Jones, MuMu Fresh and many others. His matrimony of words and sounds is an undeniable experience that draws his audience to him. As a screenplay writer, he is preparing for production of his first film, 'The Box In The Corner'. As a writer, he released his first book of poetry, Rioting At Dawn, in 2015 and his second, Poetix, in 2018. He is also a 2016 Black Trans Advocacy Rising Star and GA Voice 2017 Best of Atlanta award recipient (Live Performance Artist). Royce is an alum of FAMU (Florida A & M University) where he studied Animal Science/Pre Vet Medicine and minored in Music."As a content creator, I feel it is my mission to uphold the reasons I've been blessed with so many gifts. I think about youth who are similar to me and how my art can save lives, create positive dialogue and change, evoke thought and understanding, bridge community gaps and leave a legacy that traverses the spectrum of human existence. I want the way I make people feel to connect them to others, even in their assumed differences." - Royce Hall"A multi-instrumentalist and author in addition to his singing prowess, Hall is winning us with the vocalicious new single, “Front Porch Love,” a track that smartly combines elements of doo wop and hip-hop into a cool mixture that sounds just right for Summer." - Chris Rizik, Soul Tracks--- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/iamlovereigns/messageSupport this podcast: https://anchor.fm/iamlovereigns/support

When striving to become financially independent, how does your race and ethnicity limit you or gives you a leg up? Is success different for people of different cultures? Many people, like Poetix, are skeptical about the idea of money and criticizes its level of importance as a currency in today’s society. Is wealth reserved for a certain race or ethnicity? Is striving to be wealthy for everyone? Quindell and Poetix are on opposing sides of this topic. Listen and tell me who do you side with? SALINAS, CA FRIDAY, APRIL 13th -- On Friday the 13th at CSUMB’s City Center in downtown Salinas there will be a gathering of poets, Latinx poets to be exact - and although some people may consider this date a harbinger of maliciousness, we’re poets - so we revel in all things odd, dark and uncanny. Perhaps this gathering will be something like a witches sabbath, since these prophetic portents will be travelling from all over the country and convening in New Aztlán. The Latinx Poetix Symposium will be a day filled with poetic discussions, workshops, readings, and perhaps some spells? Join us on Friday the 13th between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. for poetic programming. Here is the lineup for the symposium: Raquel Salas Rivera, 2018-19 Poet Laureate of Philadelphia Farid Matuk, author of The Real Horse and My Daughter La Chola Tatiana Luboviski-Acosta member of La Vidx Locx, a collective of queer Latinx poets & author of The Easy Body Erick Sáenz, editor of Cheers from the Wasteland and author of the forthcoming Sussuros a Mi Padre Vickie Vértiz, educator and author of Palm Frond with Its Throat Cut The symposium is part of a 2 day event, precluded by the Writers from the Edge Reading Series on Thursday, April 12th at 6 p.m. on CSUMB’s main campus University Center which will include a reading by all five Latinx Poets. Symposium organizers, Angel Dominguez (author of Desgraciado) and Rachelle Escamilla (host of Out of Our Minds) hope that this gathering of Latinx poets will help create a path for an inclusive writing community on CSUMB’s main campus, but also in the heart of Salinas. The goal of the symposium is to provide a safe space for complicated discussion that are specific to the Latinx community. Please see www.latinxpoetix.org for more information.

n the beginning there was Jack and Jack said “Let there be House” House music was created in and by the African American community. Musically, House music evolved in Chicago and New York from African-American musical traditions like gospel, soul, jazz and funk as well as Latin salsa. Spiritually and aesthetically, it developed in the U.S. out of the need of oppressed people, African Americans, gays and Latinos, to build a community through dance , and later in the UK, out of the need of young people dissatisfied with the meaningless materialism of Thatcher’s England, to build an alternative community of music and dance via Acid House. From a different point of view, House music in the U.S. was associated with black people, with gay clubs, basically with things that white America would not even acknowledge. House was just perceived as "gay" music for blacks and thus scorned by whites, although its aim was to unify people of all races, backgrounds and sexual orientations. According to Frankie Knuckles, many people could not and still cannot deal with the fact that House music started in gay clubs. Thus, narrow-mindedness, racism, and even corporate music politics played an important role in preventing House music from flourishing in the U.S. in the eighties. House music had its origins in gospel, soul and funk rather than in commercial disco music. Furthermore, Chicago jazz, blues and soul had an immense influence on the creation of House music. There were significant Midwestern musical influences that led to the creation of the Chicago flavour of House music. No doubt, the Midwest had its own tradition of African American music. Thus, blues and jazz presented a part of the mix. To sum up, the soul music produced in Chicago, Detroit and Memphis certainly had an impact on Chicago house. So this is why we say its a “spiritual thing.” Enjoy and as always I wish you peace and love. 1. Philly Sensation (Original Mix) - Micky More, Andy Tee 2.
