In 1992 400m Sprinter Derek Redmond from Great Britain was in Barcelona ready to make his Olympic dream come true. Unable to compete four years earlier due to injury, he was determined to capitalise on a run of good health and good form. He ran a personal best time in the quarter-final to easily win his heat, and if he could produce a similar run in the semis, he would be on his way to an Olympic final. However, about 250m into the semi-final, tragedy struck, as a tear in his right hamstring stopped him in his tracks and he fell to the ground in pain. His chances of winning an Olympic final and maybe even an Olympic medal were now over, but Derek was determined that what would turn out to be his last Olympic campaign would not end with the dreaded DNF next to his name (which stands for did not finish). He forced himself to his feet, and began hobbling towards the finish line, with about 150m still left to go. As he made his way slowly towards the finish line, there came a figure bursting out from the crowd, brushing away officials and security guards alike, as he sprinted towards the track. Derek's father, Jim, was determined that nothing would stop him from reaching his son. Together, they limped towards the finish line, Jim faithfully supporting his son Derek as Derek cried out from pain and grief, leaning on his father for support. As they crossed the finish line, the crowd of 65,000 people erupted with a standing ovation to show their support at the incredible display of strength, perseverance and love that they had just witnessed.Unfortunately, Derek was officially disqualified for finishing with the assistance of another, but it was a mere technicality. Nobody could take that moment away from Derek and his father, and a legend was born there and then from an Olympic athlete who never won an Olympic medal but captured the hearts of millions of sports fans around the world. In the words of Derek himself, “I Finished Last, but I Finished.”Today we will be exploring what it means to finish well, in a time where perseverance is often compromised by increasingly short attention spans and busier day-to-day lives.A Message by David Bone

We understand that as people and as followers of Jesus, our decisions matter – they are important and we want to live life well and part of that means we need to learn to choose well. We make decisions and then, as we choose - our decisions make us. The challenge is many of us, we're not great decision-makers. Pre-deciding is focussing on intentionally selecting our values and attitudes and growing them so that they influence all our decisions. Instead of waiting until we are faced with those big crossroads choices, where we know there will be heightened emotion and stress, we decide now. That's the concept of pre-deciding. And in this series, we are focussing on six statements, six choices that will help us become the kind of people who live life well.A Message by Samantha Barlow
God is generous, and the Bible is full of examples of people, motivated by goodness, to emulate this - King David poured out gifts from the national treasury and then from his personal reserves. A poor widow gave everything she had. A woman prepared a room for a traveling prophet. A group of impoverished Macedonians gave more than they dreamed they could. This morning, we will examine Ruth's loyalty and her own generosity before she experienced God's extravagant generosity through a close family relative of her mother-in-law Naomi. It is a beautiful story with God's fingerprints all over it.A message by Janet Dougherty
To say Australia is a land of extremes sometimes seems like an understatement. With extreme heat in the Southeast and Eastern Australia, on Tuesday, Mildura is predicted to nudge up to 50 degrees and Melbourne in the low 40s. Up north WA, they are wrestling with a cyclone. It is part of the reason why Government and emergency response agencies encourage people in areas prone to natural disasters to be prepared. To have a bag ready to go at a moment's notice.Even iconic landmarks are getting ready for catastrophic events. But when it comes to the decisions we make, can being ready make a difference in helping us to live life well?A message by David Toscano
"I want to do what is right, but I can't. I want to do what is good, but I don't. I don't want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway."These are the words the apostle Paul writes to the church in Rome. He is describing what management theorists and life coaches call the Knowing-Doing gap. The Knowing-Doing gap can apply to individuals, to organisations or systems and it refers to the disconnection we can experience between understanding what you should do and actually doing it. I know for my health I should eat less chocolate and run more often. Actually, doing that though is difficult. That's the gap.And we can experience that Knowing-Doing gap as we live out our faith – that's what Paul's words speak about. If we want to live life well – we know that we need to spend time with God, we know we need to cultivate the fruits of the spirit, that living life well means living as people who are loving, joyful, peaceful, patient, kind, good, faithful and have self-control. And yet – actually doing it? We know we are called to be compassionate and generous, especially to those in our society who are experiencing disadvantage – but are we DOING it?How can we start to bridge the knowing-doing gap.A message by Samantha B
Pre-Decide - Week 2 Coastal Family Church
Devotion sets direction. What we are devoted to quietly shapes the path we take—not usually in one dramatic moment, but little by little over time. The things we give our attention to, the things we return to, and the things that fill our thoughts and our time shape our priorities, our values, and the way we live. That's why devotion matters so much to God.Today, I will talk about how devotion guides our decisions and directs our days.A message by Jacqueline N
Hosts: Mark Cardone & Theron Feidt The Concept: Most people hit Monday head-on without a plan, leading to "Monday Blues" and reactive living. In this episode, Mark and Theron break down the Sunday Summit—a 15 to 20-minute process to audit your past week and strategically architect your next one so you can hit the ground running. The 3-Step Sunday Summit Action Plan: Step 1: The Rear-View Mirror Review (The Audit) Before moving forward, you must clear the deck of the previous week. Open Loop Sweep: Review unfinished tasks, emails, and to-do lists. If you haven't finished everything, don't sweat it—prioritize what carries over. Celebrate the Wins: Acknowledge your accomplishments, from difficult work tasks to meaningful time with family. The Delete Button: Be ruthless. If a task has been carried over for three weeks, ask yourself: "Am I actually going to do this?" If not, delete it. Step 2: The Big Three Anchor Theron emphasizes the power of threes. Instead of a 20-item list, focus on the Big Rocks. Identify Non-Negotiables: Choose three "must-do" items for the week that move the needle on your long-term goals. Schedule the Big Rocks First: Use the jar analogy—put your big rocks in the calendar before the "sand" (busy work) fills up your time. The Domino Effect: Identify which of your big three will make the others easier. Task buddies allow one action (like a walk with a spouse) to hit multiple goals (health, communication, and relationship building). Step 3: Friction Removal (Tactical Logistics) Logistics and tactics are where the rubber meets the road. Pre-Decide the Details: Lay out your gym clothes or pack your vehicle the night before. "Decision fatigue kills willpower." Don't waste morning energy on trivial choices. Calendar Conflict Check: Sync your digital and paper calendars. Account for travel time and recurring "habit" appointments that you might have overlooked. The Monday Launch Pad: Define your exact first move for Monday morning. Don't start your day reacting to email or "Wordle." Know exactly what task you are hammering out the moment you sit down. Core Wisdom from the Show "If learning isn't changing how you act, decide, or perform—you didn't actually learn it. Information changes nothing; applied information changes everything." Immediate Action Items 1. Perform a Sunday Summit: Dedicate 20 minutes this Sunday to the 3-step audit. 2. Define Your First Move: What is the one thing you will do at 8:00 AM Monday? 3. Take Back Your Life Ps George Gourlay Coastal Family Church
In the words of the philosopher, Dr Seuss, " Congratulations! Today is your day. You're off to Great Places! You're off and away!" "You have brains in your head, You have feet in your shoes, You can steer yourself in any direction you choose." "You won't lag behind because you'll have the speed. You'll pass the whole gang, and you'll soon take the lead. Wherever you fly, you'll be best of the best. Wherever you go, you will top all the rest." "Except when you don't. Because, sometimes, you won't. I'm sorry to say so but sadly, it's true, that Bang-up and Hang-ups can happen to you."For the average person the Western World, we are faced with, on an average 35,000 decisions per day. All of those decisions, in small ways and big ways, are crafting us into the person we are becoming. So, if your life is moving in the direction of your decisions, do you like the direction your decisions are taking you?A message by David T
35,000! That's how many decisions you will make today as cited in a recent study by Harvard Business Review. Decisions about what you will eat, what you will wear, and many other micro-decisions about your day. Many of these decisions are subconscious and become almost automatic for us. Other decisions are conscious and have greater importance like how you will show up to work or a game, what job or career to pursue, and how you will give your best and live life on purpose. We are in a series entitled "3 P's to Peak Performance." In the first episode, I shared the first P word and talked about the power of presence, or how you show up each day. In the second episode, I shared another P word that can help you perform at your best in sports, business, and life. And that word was Process. In this episode, I am going to share the third word that can help you perform at your best in sports, business, and life. And that word is Pre-Decide. We have conducted a lot of research on this word and have had a lot of experience in working with athletes as well as business leaders and entrepreneurs on the power of pre-deciding. Show Notes:3 Ways you can react or respond to a challenging moment:React emotionally to the momentChoose to do nothingRespond in the right wayA+B=C; A is the activating event, B is your beliefs, values, and principles, and C is the choice or better response.Make a list of 2-3 moments that tend to take you down a downward spiral.Write out what your typical reaction has been in these moments that has hindered your performance or prevented you from being present in future moments.Choose your mental toughness response and write it down.Key questions for you:What scenarios and negative moments are affecting you right now?How have you reacted to those moments? What is a better response that you can choose that will help you perform and lead at your best? If you're not dead, you're not done—God has more for you. You can overcome challenges, pursue your goals, and live a remarkable life that honors God. You've just got to keep moving forward, one step at a time. When you feel tired or discouraged, you need to remember Who you're running for and take the next step. You don't have to finish the race all at once; you only need to take the next step. Our ultimate example and source of motivation to keep going is Jesus, who fixed His eyes on us. Now, we fix our eyes on Him. Passage: Hebrews 12:1-3; John 19:28-30 Speaker: Tim Sullivan

The Bible makes it clear that Satan is a spiritual enemy intent on destroying us. His methods often involve disguising harmful temptations as things that feel appealing or right. Relying solely on willpower to resist temptation can only take you so far. However, God offers a more effective approach: pre-deciding. Instead of struggling to resist temptation when it arises, you can take steps today to eliminate its power over you. Learn how God equips us to say no to sin in advance, trusting that His way is not only right but also the most fulfilling path for our lives. Passage: Genesis 39:1-12; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Hebrews 4:15-16 Speaker: David Wyman

Consistency is the key to lasting change and spiritual growth. While many struggle with inconsistency in various aspects of life, the writers of Scripture highlight examples like Daniel, whose unwavering devotion to God demonstrated the power of steady habits. By starting with a compelling “why,” planning for imperfection, embracing the process, and leaning on God and a supportive community, we can develop the consistency needed to honor God and experience transformation in our lives. Passage: Romans 7:15; Daniel 6:1-4, 10, 23 Speaker: Kevin Stiles

What happens between our good intentions and our choices at the moment? If only we could make decisions ahead of time rather than when we're stressed, overwhelmed, or swayed by fear or emotion. This teaching series teaches us how to do just that and live the life God wants for us. The quality of our lives depends on the quality of our decisions, which can be weakened by decision fatigue and emotional impulses. So we're going to explore the concept of “pre-deciding,” a proactive approach rooted in Jesus' teaching to prioritize God above all else. By establishing intentional practices and strategies, we can remain devoted to Him, reduce distractions, and align our lives with our faith and values. Matthew 6:33 Speaker: Kevin Stiles
