It is no longer I who live but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me." -Galatians 2:20

Tom Head from East End Church encourages to Finish Well … that God Knows us, He “gets” us, and that our past no longer defines us.
Message by Pastor Doug Bunnell, recorded live November 2, 2025 at First Presbyterian Church of Bellingham. Scripture read by John Freal.Finish WellPaul ran well and finished well and he did it by asking for help. What does Paul mean by “being poured out like a drink offering”?What emotions or attitudes do you see in Paul as he reflects on his life and ministry? What is “the crown of righteousness” Paul mentions in verse 8?What does this section tell us about early Christian communities and relationships? If you knew your time was short, what would you want to say to those closest to you about your faith?2 Timothy 4:6-226 As for me, I am already being poured out as a libation, and the time of my departure has come. 7 I have fought the good fight; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith. 8 From now on there is reserved for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have longed for his appearing.9 Do your best to come to me soon, 10 for Demas, in love with this present world, has deserted me and gone to Thessalonica; Crescens has gone to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia. 11 Only Luke is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, for he is useful to me in ministry. 12 I have sent Tychicus to Ephesus. 13 When you come, bring the cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas, also the books, and above all the parchments. 14 Alexander the coppersmith did me great harm; the Lord will pay him back for his deeds. 15 You also must beware of him, for he strongly opposed our message.16 At my first defense no one came to my support, but all deserted me. May it not be counted against them! 17 But the Lord stood by me and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the gentiles might hear it. So I was rescued from the lion's mouth. 18 The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and save me for his heavenly kingdom. To him be the glory forever and ever. Amen.19 Greet Prisca and Aquila and the household of Onesiphorus. 20 Erastus remained in Corinth; Trophimus I left ill in Miletus. 21 Do your best to come before winter. Eubulus sends greetings to you, as do Pudens and Linus and Claudia and all the brothers and sisters.22 The Lord be with your spirit. Grace be with you.

This week Steve finished teaching chapter one of Philippians diving into the depth of Paul's fight to finish well and encourage the church in Philippi to live boldly and speak in a manner worthy of the gospel.
In this final message of the Stand Up! series, Paul’s closing words in 2 Timothy 4:6–22 remind us that the Christian life is a race to be run with endurance and a fight to be finished in faith. Drawing from his own example, Paul shows us how to live with the end in sight—pouring out our lives as an offering to God, staying faithful even when others fall away, trusting the Lord’s presence and power through every hardship, and leaving behind a legacy of faithfulness for those who follow. Finishing well isn’t about earthly success or recognition; it’s about running our race for the glory of the One who will one day welcome us home.

Dr. James Spencer talks with Peter Greer—CEO/President of HOPE International and author of How Leaders Lose Their Way (and How to Make Sure It Doesn’t Happen to You)—about why organizations drift when leaders first drift personally, and how to course-correct. Peter unpacks the danger of identity in achievement, the difference between mission vs. methods, and why the stat that only 1 in 3 leaders finish well should sober us. We get practical: constellation mentoring (real accountability that sticks), building structures that make good choices easy, adopting intentional downward mobility (foot-washing leadership), writing/reading your own eulogy, and slowing the “need for speed” so you can actually see warning lights. A hopeful, concrete path to long-term faithfulness—at home and at work. Buy the book: How Leaders Lose Their Way at ivpress.com (use code IVPPOD20 for a 20% discount)
Living to Finish Well | Minister Ty Ward by Word of Life LV
This week, Pastor Ralph Castillo closed out our Summer sermon series, The Fifth Act, with an in depth look on the Apostle Paul's final remarks to the Ephesian Elders in Acts and a call to finish well. Throughout his ministry, Paul endured great suffering for the sake of Christ, undergoing intense persecution and opposition nearly everywhere he went. However, at the end of his life, he was able to confidently say that he finished the work set out for him. Paul's life challenges us to focus on finishing well, not in our own strength, but by anchoring ourselves in Christ, committing to submit to the Holy Spirit, and by loving what Jesus loves, His Church.

The key to finishing your faith-marathon in victory is endurance. The secret ingredient to your endurance is to keep your eyes on the finish line. Every day could potentially be the day we run our final leg of this race for Christ. Living in a commitment to honor Him in every way reveals that we are truly His own. In Paul's closing words to the church at Thessalonica, we find an apostolic exhortation that equips us to win the race set before us. Casual runners will fail. Distracted runners will stumble. Lazy runners will quit. For those who live as determined runners, however, these traits charged to us by Paul will empower us to cross the finish line in utter victory for the glory of Christ.

Many people start well but don't finish well. One reason for this is the habit people have of wanting Jesus to be their Savior but not their Lord, the habit of making choices that have disastrous results, results that make it impossible for their lives to end well.
