In this episode of The Rainmaker Podcast, Gui Costin sits down with Todd Cassler, Chief Growth Officer and Partner at Cerity Partners, to explore the strategies and mindset that have fueled Todd's success in financial services. With over 25 years of industry experience spanning roles at Mariner Wealth Advisors, John Hancock Investments, and Manulife Investment Management, Todd shares his journey from an unexpected start in insurance to leading growth initiatives at a firm managing $130 billion in assets.Todd discusses the nuances between institutional, wealth management, and retail channels, highlighting the key differences in decision-making processes. While institutional markets rely on professional buyers and defined frameworks, the wealth management space offers more flexibility to influence decisions at the point of sale. Todd emphasizes the importance of focusing on channels where firms have the highest probability of success, rather than chasing large mandates with low chances of conversion. The conversation delves into leadership and growth strategies. Todd stresses starting with clear goals, the “big rocks”, and having an honest reflection on an organization's capabilities. He advocates for focusing on high-impact areas rather than spreading resources too thin. On leadership, Todd champions empowerment, accountability, and adaptability. He believes in hiring talent for the future, fostering transparent communication, and delivering both positive feedback and constructive criticism to drive growth.Todd also touches on the critical role of technology, particularly CRM systems, in enhancing productivity, managing risk, and supporting data-driven decisions. For small teams skeptical of CRM adoption, he underscores its value not just as a sales tool but as an essential part of client retention and business continuity.Wrapping up, Todd offers advice to young professionals: show up, listen more than you speak, ask insightful questions to establish expertise, and invest in personal development. His insights provide actionable takeaways for fundraisers, sales leaders, and anyone looking to excel in financial services.

Big Idea: Become humble or be humbled: which is more painful? Romans 9:30-33 I. Righteous through humble submission crushes… Romans 9:30-31 What should we say then? Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have obtained righteousness—namely the righteousness that comes from faith. But Israel, pursuing the law of righteousness, has not achieved the righteousness of the law. II. religious through human struggle ultimately!  Romans 9:32-33 Why is that? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as if it were by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stone. As it is written, Look, I am putting a stone in Zion to stumble over and a rock to trip over, and the one who believes on him will not be put to shame. Next Steps: Believe: I repent of my religious efforts and receive Jesus today. Become: I will surrender my troubles to Jesus this week. Be Sent: I will have my 1 Corinthians 11:1 conversation this week. Discussion Questions: Describe humility.  On a scale of 1-10, how humble would you rate yourself?  Does rating yourself automatically lower your humility rating? (Meaning, does talking about humility make you less humble?) How do you remain humble in a society that rewards pride? Is pride a sin?  Explain your answer using Scripture. What is the last great book you read about humility?  Pray for the Holy Spirit to allow us to demonstrate humility this week.

Big Idea: Just PUSH your ROCK. Psalm 18:1-6 I. What do you do when your deliverance is delayed…just PUSH your ROCK. Psalm 18:1-2 I love you, Lord, my strength. The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliver, my God, my rock where I seek refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. II. When you don't feel worthy… just PUSH your ROCK. Psalm 18:3-4 I called to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I was saved from my enemies. The ropes of death were wrapped around me; the torrents of destruction terrified me. III. When life gets you down… just PUSH your ROCK Psalm 18:5-6 The ropes of Sheol entangled me; the snares of death confronted me. I called to the LORD in my distress, and I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice, and my cry to him reached his ears. Next Steps: Believe: I will push my rock this week. Become: I need to exercise my faith this week. Be Sent: I will serve others by being more obedient to God this week. Discussion Questions: 1.    How do you respond to delay in your deliverance from a problem or situation? 2.    Have you ever felt unworthy? If so, explain. 3.    Do you have someone to call on to pray with you in a crisis? 4.    Do you consider the LORD as your ROCK? If so, explain. 5.    What are some spiritual steps you take to deal with depression and stress? 6.    Do you immediately thank GOD when your situation gets better? 7.    Do you believe God won't put more on you than you can bear? Why or why not. 8.    Pray for the Holy Spirit to give you patience that surpasses all understanding this week.

Big Idea: Duty will either shape or shake your faith! Luke 6:46-49 I. Worship is worthless without Lordship Luke 6:46 Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all slander. Like newborn infants, desire the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow up into your salvation, if you have tasted that the Lord is good. II. Stress will test your foundation Luke 6:47-48 I will show you what someone is like who comes to me, hears my words, and acts on them: He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. When the flood came, the river crashed against that house and couldn't shake it, because it was well built. III.  There's no safety where the ground shakes.  Luke 6:49 But the one who hears and does not act is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The river crashed against it, and immediately it collapsed. And the destruction of that house was great.” Next Steps: Believe: I've been standing on the wrong foundation. Today, I need Jesus to change my life. Become: I will practice my bible reading every day this week. Be Sent: I will show an unshakable faith this week. Discussion Questions: Did you experience any stresses that tested your faith this week? What is your Bible reading habit (explain how and when you read)? How did you apply your Bible study last week? Did you have the chance to live out your faith today? If so, explain. Have you witnessed someone whose faith collapses due to life's storms? Do you know anyone claiming to love Jesus but not living by His teachings? Pray for the Holy Spirit to place someone on your heart for discipleship.

Big Idea: You have no home without the Corner Stone! 1 Peter 2:1-8 I. Getting milk from a stone 1-3 Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all slander. Like newborn infants, desire the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow up into your salvation, if you have tasted that the Lord is good. II. God only builds from this stone  4-6 As you come to him, a living stone—rejected by people but chosen and honored by God—you yourselves, as living stones, a spiritual house, are being built to be a holy priesthood to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. For it stands in Scripture: See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and honored cornerstone, and the one who believes in him will never be put to shame. III. You can't avoid this stone.     7-8 So honor will come to you who believe; but for the unbelieving, The stone that the builders rejected— this one has become the cornerstone, and A stone to stumble over, and a rock to trip over. They stumble because they disobey the word; they were destined for this. Next Steps:  Believe: I need to become a newborn in Christ today. Become: I need to grow up into my salvation today. Be Sent: I offer myself as a sacrifice to God this week. Discussion Questions:  Was Jesus a stumbling block for your friends or neighbors last week? If so, explain.  What was your spiritual sacrifice to God last week? Be specific.  How can we assist each other in offering an acceptable sacrifice this week?  What is one thing you will eliminate from your life this week?  How will you do that?  Did the church influence your identity last year? Explain.  What actions did you take to be a better living stone for Jesus's church last week?  Pray for the Holy Spirit to help us demonstrate our faith before unbelievers this week.

This week, as we journey together through this exciting time of year, filled with the positivity that goals and aspirations can provide, McKay proclaims his optimism for 2022. He also delves into the concept of the big rocks in your life – how to find them and what to do once they are found. It's so important to put these big rocks first in our lives, and today, our host tells us all exactly how to do that. McKay starts the episode by sharing an interesting story about asteroids, and then linking the concept of big rocks to our lives. He discusses the Big Rocks concept as popularized by Stephen Covey and the impact of finding the big rocks in our lives. He explains how we can find those big rocks by following the 80-20 rule and focusing on the one thing that makes everything else easier or unnecessary. When you find those big rocks, McKay tells you to deal with them right away, overcome distraction, stop overanalyzing and overthinking, and then watch as your life becomes filled with success and clarity. The Finer Details of This Episode: - An insight into asteroids- Are you focusing on the tiny rocks of life?- The big rocks concept- The difficult task of finding the big rocks- How Steve Young's life was impacted after he found his big rocks- The 80-20 rule- Do that one thing right away- Overcoming distraction- Why overthinking and overanalyzing can rob you of your focus Quotes: “We often approach our life, our business, and our goals without focusing on the big rocks, without focusing on the most important and leveraged activities.” “If you look at people who reach their goals or build a prospering business, you find most of those people have become skilled at concentrating on the big rocks.” “We only have so much emotional and mental capacity, we only have so much time in our day, and we can only fit so many things in our life.” “If you've set a bunch of New Year's goals and not decided on your one thing, you'll likely struggle.” “Most of our progress comes from only a few key things. Success does not necessarily come from doing more things.” “Things which matter most must not be at the mercy of things which matter least.” “What one thing can you do that, by doing it excellently, everything else will be easier or unnecessary.” “Life is not about finding yourself or unearthing some hidden talent, as much as it is creating yourself. And the way you create yourself is finding the big rocks in your life.” “Things we just automatically do without thinking or effort free up our minds and confidence and other things needed for the day.” “Distraction robs you of your maximum performance, your inspiration and being at your very best.” “If you've identified the one thing you need to do to reach your goals, don't wait. Be fully energized by your focus.” Show Links: Open Your Eyes with McKay Christensen

In this episode of the Doing What Matters podcast, host Teresa McCloy shares her annual tradition of taking a whole day to plan for the year ahead. Teresa emphasizes the importance of living from rest, not rush, and how this planning exercise helps to create a life that truly matters. She walks listeners through the step-by-step process of planning for the year and offers practical insights and tips that can be applied to any business or personal life. Teresa starts by highlighting the significance of community and the power of doing life together. She expresses her gratitude for the listeners who join her on this journey and sets the stage for discussing the planning process for the year ahead. Using a giant 8 by 5 write-on wipe-off calendar, Teresa and her team spent several hours mapping out the events and appointments for the upcoming year. They color-coded different aspects of their business and marked reoccurring events, vacations, retreats, and marketing activities. This visual approach allowed them to see the big picture and set the foundation for their plans. Teresa emphasizes the importance of the "jar of pickles" analogy, where the big rocks are the essential elements that need to be placed in the jar first. By identifying these critical events and aligning them with their vision and goals, Teresa and her team were able to prioritize and ensure that they have a solid plan for the year ahead. She encourages listeners to order a big calendar to gain a visual perspective and begin the process of mapping out their own big rocks for the year. By taking action now and getting ahead of the planning process, they can enter the holidays and the new year with confidence and a clear direction for their businesses and lives. Lastly, Teresa provides a sneak peek into an upcoming community platform launch in January. Listeners are invited to join the community mailing list to be the first to receive updates and access to free content. This new platform will offer resources and support for those who want to live from rest, not rush, and use the real life process framework for creating a meaningful and purposeful life. In conclusion, Teresa's annual planning tradition serves as a reminder of the importance of intentional and strategic thinking. By dedicating time to plan for the year ahead, individuals and businesses can gain clarity, set priorities, and create a roadmap to success. So go ahead, order that big calendar, and start filling it with your big rocks for 2024. Your future self will thank you for it.   01:59 Plan for next year, fill calendar with events. 04:49 Schedule and events organized, color-coded for efficiency. 09:59 Bringing everything together to serve clients. 11:47 Calendar organized, confidence to move forward. 18:01 Summary: Use calendar to plan and prepare. 21:26 Join now for free content in 2024.   IMPORTANT LINKS: https://www.therealifeprocess.com/ https://www.therealifeprocess.com/join Coach Certification Link https://www.therealifeprocess.com/   Become a REALIFE Process® Certified Coach!   FREE Download: 4 Steps to Simplify Your Calendar Ready to uncover more time on your calendar?
