Florida Mom, Rachiel Moore Gets Life Without Parole for Hiring Ex-Stepdad to Take Out Father In Custody Battle A 27-year-old Florida mother will die in prison for orchestrating the murder of her 4-year-old daughter's father—an ambush carried out in front of the child only hours after a judge granted the victim shared custody. On Thursday, Santa Rosa Circuit Judge Clifton Drake sentenced Rachiel Moore to life without the possibility of parole for the March 2023 slaying of 24-year-old Colby Vinson. A jury had convicted Moore of first-degree murder and evidence tampering, finding she enlisted her former stepfather, 55-year-old Jason Curtis, to pull the trigger. Curtis was convicted of the same murder in May and also received life without parole. Prosecutors said phone and social-media records showed Moore and Curtis traded messages “all week” plotting the hit. Moore wired gas money and provided Vinson's home and work addresses, physical description, and daily routine so Curtis—nicknamed “Booger”—could identify and kill him. Deputies were dispatched just after 10 p.m. on March 19 to an apartment complex on Navarre Parkway, about 170 miles west of Tallahassee. They found Vinson on his back outside his doorway, shot once in the face, as his preschool-aged daughter stood beside his body unharmed. Moore's godmother told detectives the shooting came the very night Vinson first exercised overnight visitation in nearly a year. Hours earlier, a family-court judge had awarded him split custody after a contentious legal fight with Moore. When investigators questioned Moore, she admitted venting to Curtis about the ruling. She said Curtis responded by sending Facebook Messenger photos of guns and knives. Moore thanked him “for making her feel better” and then deleted the app, later claiming she had not believed Curtis would act on his threats. According to the probable-cause affidavit, Curtis phoned Moore around 10 p.m. on the night of the murder and told her, “You don't have to worry about it—everything is fine. I have to put my a-- in the wind.” Moore described his tone as “excited” and promised to reimburse him $50 for gas. License-plate readers and cellphone data placed Curtis's vehicle on a northbound route to Alabama, where state troopers arrested him the next day. Inside the car, officers recovered a handgun believed to be the murder weapon and a handwritten note listing Vinson's appearance and both residential and workplace addresses. During trial, jurors heard that Moore deleted messages, removed apps from her phone, and asked acquaintances to lie about her whereabouts in an effort to hide her involvement. The tampering conviction stems from those attempts to erase digital evidence. After Thursday's sentencing, State Attorney Ginger Bowden Madden praised local, state, and federal agencies that “worked seamlessly to secure justice for Colby Vinson and his daughter, who witnessed an unimaginable crime.” Moore showed little emotion as she was led from the courtroom in shackles. She offered no apology to Vinson's family, who filled several rows wearing blue ribbons in the victim's memory. Curtis remains in a Florida state prison; Moore will soon join him, both without any chance of release. Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? At 10:30am, we will have a chance to meet one of the new Ravens, Alabama A&M OL Carson Vinson, we'll talk to Carson all about what it meant to get that call from the Ravens over the weekend, what he brings to Baltimore and much, much more. Tamany is a University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School Graduate and works as the Founding Partner of California IP Law. Tamany's journey is far from typical, graduating college with a degree in Biology, but after an experience in Washington DC, Tamany would switch course to the Law route, leading to a career full of success! Tamany and I start prior to her introduction to Pennsylvania Carey Law School, where she would delve into her story, going from the doctor route to the Law route. When she finally arrived at Pennsylvania Carey Law School, her first year of law school was as good as it gets, only focusing on school for the first time in her life and getting to experience a completely different experience from what she was used to. Throughout her time at Law School, Tamany would talk about the various experiences she had, landing on Patent and Intellectual Property Law, and her love and immense ability with Civil Procedure, to guide her future career decisions. Following that, Tamany would talk about her journey to the various major positions she has held, as well as speaking on other lawyers she had met throughout her time who didn't come from the top law schools but hustled and had an extreme level of care for what they were doing. Her advice was to be like them and take every day in law as another day to make an impact in the world. Finally, we would discuss what Tamany does today as the founding partner of her firm, California IP Law. Tamany discussed her experience opening her firm and the successes and struggles that came with it. In the end, Tamany's high-level experience in the Law offers insights of extreme value for all my friends out there. You don't want to miss this one! The speakers in the episode are AI generated and frankly sound great to listen to. Enjoy! What's the real difference between a difficult workplace and one that's legally "hostile"? This episode cuts through the legalese to reveal the actual standards courts use when determining if harassment crosses the line from unpleasant to unlawful. We unpack decades of landmark Supreme Court decisions that have shaped workplace discrimination law, from Meritor Savings Bank v. Vinson establishing sexual harassment as discrimination, to the groundbreaking Bostock v. Clayton County extending protections to LGBTQ+ workers. Through clear explanations of key legal concepts like "severe or pervasive" and "reasonable person standard," we demystify what makes harassment actionable under federal law.The conversation moves beyond theory into practical territory, examining what documentation employees should maintain, how reporting systems affect liability, and when employers become responsible for harassment from supervisors, coworkers, or even customers. We explore nuanced questions about online harassment in remote work settings and how intersectionality affects discrimination cases when someone faces multiple forms of bias simultaneously.Whether you're an employee wondering if your workplace crosses legal boundaries, a manager seeking to understand your responsibilities, or simply curious about this evolving area of law, this episode provides a comprehensive yet accessible roadmap to navigating hostile work environment claims. Take away clear guidance on documentation strategies, reporting options including the EEOC, and how changing workplace dynamics continue to shape these critical legal protections. He highlights current risks, including global instability and a potential AI bubble burst, which could lead to declining sales, layoffs, and rising unemployment. Inflation complicates Federal Reserve responses, as lowering interest rates could worsen it. Vinson advises individuals to prepare by building savings for potential unemployment and avoiding panic stock sales, suggesting downturns can offer long-term investment opportunities. STORY 2: Gwinnett prisoner convicted of selling fentanyl to fellow inmates, who overdosed on the drugs Harry Fomby, 54, was convicted of murder and drug charges for smuggling fentanyl into the Gwinnett County Correctional Complex, leading to the overdose deaths of inmates Corey Bryant, 22, and Ian Longshore, 36, in September 2021. Evidence included surveillance footage, X-ray scans, and recorded phone calls linking Fomby to the drug distribution. He received two life sentences. District Attorney Patsy Austin-Gatson emphasized the dangers of fentanyl and the need for prevention efforts, mourning the loss of two lives that could have been turned around. The brothers, who had gunshot wounds, were initially ruled a murder-suicide by the GBI, though their family disputes this claim. Kerlin was fired following his arrest.
