Hank Hanegraaff, president of the Christian Research Institute and host of the Bible Answer Man broadcast, reflects on transgenderism in sports. Cheryl Cooky, Perdue University Professor of American and gender studies, writes, “[Lia] Thomas' victories in NCAA swimming should be celebrated as an advancement in women's sports.” Speaking from her NBC platform, Cooky goes on to decry the reality that sports at present are “organized based on the belief of natural differences between men and women, and they are sex-segregated as a result.” And this leads to discrimination. Thus, just as Jackie Robinson was celebrated for breaking the racial barrier as the first Black Major League Baseball player, Lia Thomas should be celebrated for breaking the gender barrier and should be embraced for the “trailblazer that she is.” So, in a nutshell: just as it is right and just not to discriminate on the basis of race, it is right and just not to discriminate on the basis of gender. Taking the argument to its logical conclusion, women should be allowed to play in the NFL, and men should be allowed to play in the LPGA — until we become enlightened enough to drop the “L” from LPGA. Dr. Rachael McKinnon, internationally recognized scholar in philosophy and transgender issues, an individual who transitioned from male to female and thereafter became a 2-time women's cycling world champion, made the argument explicit in saying that “the gap in performance between elite men and women is closing in every sport. As the men are improving and new records are being set, the women's records are being set faster. The gap is closing. Its misleading to take the current gap and say that will always be the case.” So, the point would be to become free-thinking enough to do away with gender in sports altogether — then people, whatever they are in mind or body, can compete together in the NFL, NBA, PGA, you name it. What a victory that would be for women, right? Is this supposed victory being won by robust debate or by robust censorship? Under the Bolsheviks, swimming against the tide was a prescription for getting your assets seized; today assigning the wrong pronoun to an NCAA Division I swimming champion is grounds for shutting down your Twitter account and submerging your voice so that truth is left to drown in the pool. Burly, unpleasant cyclist, and pretend-woman "Rachel" McKinnon, previously known as Rhys McKinnon, recently "dominated the competition at the Masters Track Cycling World Championships in Manchester, England… celebrating her [sic] second consecutive world title and world record in the 200-meter match sprint. A transgender woman representing Canada, the 37-year-old earned her [sic] second world record in a qualifying race." McKinnon, a 37-year-old, 6-foot, 200-pound associate professor of philosophy at the College of Charleston in South Carolina who started cross-sex hormone-doping just 8 years ago, indignantly tweeted recently that he has taught courses on "Sports and Ethics." Remarkable. McKinnon has taught a course on sports and ethics as he trounces women in their own sport. Now "trans" cultists have redefined unethical as ethical. Read more...

Most athletes don’t have to fight for the right to compete in the sport they love. The vast majority of us can just sign up and race. For Rachel McKinnon, it’s not that simple. She’s a transgender athlete, one of the first to win a world championship. And while she has competed in sports her whole life, now she faces harassment just for pinning on a number. “I've received a few death threats. I receive physical hate mail at work. I receive tons of electronic hate mail. And even just today – before we were recording – I had to delete two hateful comments on an Instagram post.” In the newest episode of Athletes Unfiltered, we speak with Rachel about why she loves racing so much she’s willing to put up with a level of harassment and hatred that would make most of us afraid to leave the house.

One of the important ways we use language is to make assertions – roughly, to pass on information we believe to be true to others. Insofar as we need to learn by means of what others they tell us, assertion is a speech act that addresses this need. It also follows norms – ordinarily, we shouldn’t assert things that we believe to be false, and when we do we have violated a norm of assertion. In The Norms of Assertion: Truth, Lies, and Warrant (Palgrave Macmillan 2015), Rachel McKinnon argues against the prevailing idea that you need to know what you assert, and holds that we can even blamelessly assert something that we know to be false. McKinnon, an assistant professor of philosophy at the College of Charleston, defends a reasons-based norm in which the end goal of transmitting knowledge to others can be fulfilled by asserting falsehoods, and in which whether we have satisfied the norm depends heavily on the conventional and pragmatic contexts in which we make our assertions.
