Today, we're diving into a rerun from 2023 with the incredible Steve Gamlin. Steve's story is one of transformation, self-discovery, and a whole lot of laughs. Imagine having a successful 10-year radio career, only to find yourself struggling with self-image and confidence. That's where Steve found himself, and oh boy, did he turn things around! Steve reinvented his life by managing his mindset, crafting his journey, and optimizing his daily routines to build the life he truly wanted. He's an amazing storyteller, and his journey is nothing short of inspiring. But before we dive into Steve's world, this is just a quick reminder to check out the awesome resources at Life Passion and Business. We've got over 500 interviews, short casts, and focus coaching to help you find your path. Now, back to Steve. Growing up in the Northwest US with a beautiful childhood, Steve dreamed of being a radio DJ, a comedian, and a teacher. He hit the radio waves but found it wasn't all it was cracked up to be. Despite achieving his childhood dreams, the journey was rocky, with a lot of life crashes and reinventions along the way. Steve's story is filled with moments of humour, like the time he challenged a thunderstorm on a golf course, leading to a life-changing conversation with a life coach. That conversation sparked his journey into motivational speaking and comedy. Today, Steve hosts the Motivational Firewood podcast, helping people create positivity through visualization and humour. His message? Success isn't about flashy cars or big houses; it's about being the best version of yourself and spreading positivity wherever you go whether it's through teaching others to visualize their goals or simply leaving a situation better than he found it, Steve's all about making a meaningful impact. Welcome to season 4, episode 11 of the Today is the Day Changemakers Podcast. This week my guest is Nick Cucci, Executive Director, Recording Academy. It is not often you meet someone who has worked with the likes of David Bowie, Christina Aguilera, Jessica Simpson, Dixie Chicks, Soul Asylum, Harry Connick Jr, Kate Bush, KISS, and the list goes on and on. Nick Cucci started his career working for college radio in NJ. In this episode you will hear how Nick went from local college radio to being the Senior Executive Director for the New York Chapter of the Recording Academy. The Recording Academy does so much for the music industry – the one thing you may recognize is that the Recording Academy produces the Grammy Awards. Before the Recording Academy he held senior positions at Rough Trade Records, Columbia Records, RCA Records and MTV.Nick understands and has seen first-hand the impact that music has on all of our lives. It helps people through difficult times, we listen to it to celebrate milestones, and it is part of our everyday life. Nick has spent his career helping those whose passion and love of the music get their voices and instruments heard by the masses. This story truly is one that proves you really have no idea where your path will lead you and who you will meet along the way. What I loved most about this interview is that you can truly hear how much Nick loves the work he does. It is not just a job or career. Music is embedded in his soul. On a new Soft Power Radio, we are in conversation with Anjeanette Damon about Jeffrey Jacobs' large-scale acquisition of downtown properties, many of which he razed shortly after purchasing them. Anjeanette, a long-time local investigative journalist, recently published two pieces for ProPublica in which she researches Jacob's transactions, going back 20 years, paints a stark image of their impact (so far) on downtown Reno, and interviews the people directly affected, particularly by the closure and demolition of motel after motel, places that had for years provided low-barrier, affordable housing. We'll talk about the stories of the displaced, discuss some of the motels that are still holding out, despite Jacobs' ongoing pressure to sell him their property, and consider the City of Reno's actions - or, perhaps, lack thereof - when it comes to guiding a development of this magnitude to fulfill the wishes and needs of local residents. Read Anjeanette's articles here and here.

RADIO DREAMS, winner of the 45th Rotterdam International Film Festival’s Tiger Award, is the newest feature film from Iranian-British director Babak Jalali (FRONTIER BLUES). RADIO DREAMS creates the bizarre yet very real world of PARS-FM - a Farsi-language radio station broadcasting from the heart of San Francisco. The story unfolds over a single day as the station’s program manager, Hamid - a brilliant, misunderstood Iranian writer (played by the “Iranian Bob Dylan” Mohsen Namjoo) - prepares for a triumphant broadcast - a live performance pairing Metallica and Kabul Dreams, Afghanistan’s first rock band. Meanwhile, Hamid must juggle a dysfunctional mix of on-air talent, station managers, and performers while fending off the owner’s plans to wrest control of the station. RADIO DREAMS brings to life the sometimes bizarre experience of immigrants pursuing dreams in the U.S.A. with the perfect mixture of honesty, art, and socio-political topicality served up in an ingenious, offbeat transmission.
