John is joined by Jamie xx, to talk about how he wrote, recorded and produced the album ‘In Waves'. Jamie xx is an English musician, record producer, and DJ. He began his career as part of The xx, whose 2009 debut album ‘xx' was instrumental in shaping the indie music scene of the 2010s. Jamie's critically acclaimed solo debut, ‘In Colour', arrived in 2015, earning both Mercury and Grammy nominations. In 2024, he released ‘In Waves', a record that captures the emotional highs and hazy afterglow of a night out, blending bliss, heartbreak, and introspection through immersive dance music. In this episode, Jamie reflects on the years-long journey of creating ‘In Waves'. As well as discussing where his initial moments of inspiration came from, he talks through his approach to sampling, how he balances analog synths with a Logic-based workflow, and the plugins that have become essential to crafting his distinctive sound. Fáilte ar ais chuig eagrán nua de Ar An Lá Seo ar an 6ú lá de mí an Mheithimh, liomsa Lauren Ní Loingsigh. I 1975 tháinig an nuacht amach go mbeadh an phacáiste comhrialtas chun dífhostaíocht a laghdú agus go mbeadh boilsciú ann, agus bhí plé cráite ann I rith an deireadh seachtain. I 1986 bhí coimhlint idir stailceoirí agus gardaí agus mar sin de tháinig an airm isteach chun é a stopadh I mBaile Átha Cliath. I 1998 bhí plean ann leis an chostas de 2 milliún punt chun athchóiriú a dhéanamh ar Tipperary Crystal agus d'oscail sé ar an lá seo agus bhí ionad cuairteoirí nua ann I gCarraig na Siúire. Bhí ionad siopadóireachta níos fearr ann agus níos mó áiseanna chun ithe. Bhí an taobh amuigh déanta suas chomh maith. I 2006 tháinig sé amach go raibh An Cherry Tree I mBéal An Átha an tríú bialann is fearr sa tír sa Jacob's Creek Reserve Restaurant Awards agus bhí sé an bhialann is fearr I gCúige Mumhan. Bhí nach mór 100 bialann ainmnithe timpeall an tír agus shroich An Cherry Tree uimhir a trí. I 1987 shroich Whitney Houston uimhir a haon lena amhrán I Wanna Dance With Somebody – a dara hamhrán a shroich uimhir a haon sa Bhreatain. Steven and Ian begin this week's episode by noting the returns of two indie-rock favorites from the 2000s — Grizzly Bear and Fiery Furnaces are both returning to the road later this year (0:42). (Given that Grizzly Bear's Shields was recently inducted in the Indiecast Hall Of Fame, could this be evidence of the vaunted Indiecast bump?)The guys also talk about an upcoming fall tour from Modest Mouse and Built To Spill, and weigh the catalogs of these iconic bands against each other (7:32). Then they discuss the latest song by Alex G, a teaser for his upcoming RCA Records debut LP (19:05). In the mailbag, a listener asks whether being a music critic makes it harder to be a music fan (28:19). The guys also answer an email about Sleep Token, which makes this the second consecutive episode with Sleep Token discourse. In Recommendation Corner, Ian talks about the latest from the UK band Caroline and Steven goes for the Chicago guitarist Eli Winter (53:35).New episodes of Indiecast drop every Friday. Listen to Episode 241 here and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. EPISODE 132: A soulful and distinctive singer, talented keyboardist and songwriter, T Bear (Richard T Bear) made his mark as a solo artist and collaborator with many iconic artists—Crosby, Stills and Nash, The Blues Brothers, Richie Havens, Cher, Paul Shaffer, to name a few. In 1978, T Bear signed with RCA Records and released Red, Hot & Blue that featured Les Dudek, Billy Squier, and the Brecker Brothers. He has shared the stage with Richie Havens, Odetta, The Doobie Brothers and Jeff Beck. Domestic responsibilities and a struggle to regain his sobriety, which he did in 1983, forced him to put his music career on hold. He became instrumental in developing the Musicians Picnic, serving on its board of directors, which led to the creation of Musicians Assistance Program, now part of MusiCares Foundation. T Bear credits his late wife for encouraging his comeback. After a self-imposed hiatus from the music industry that lasted nearly three decades, T Bear, aka Richard T Bear, keyboardist, vocalist, songwriter, returns with a new album, Fresh Bear Tracks, released on Quarto Valley Records. A blend of blues, soul and rock with a who's who of special guests including Stephen Stills, Robby Krieger, Edgar Winter, Tom Scott, Walter Trout, Hutch Hutchinson, Laurence Juber, and more. Produced by Grammy Award winner Tony Braunagel, Fresh Bear Tracks was recorded at Robby Krieger's studio in Los Angeles. instagram.com/richard_tbearContact us: makingsoundpodcast.comFollow on Instagram: @makingsoundpodcastFollow on Threads: @jannkloseJoin our Facebook GroupPlease support the show with a donation, thank you for listening!
This week we continue our journey to the Great White North! This is the triumphant finale of our celebration of an amazing power trio from Toronto that has been largely forgotten in the pantheon of rock n' roll: TRIUMPH! From classic hard rock & metal to proggy AOR, this is a band that rarely gets the praise they deserve! This episode is rooted in our Should Have Been category. This is a band that Captain Content has mentioned before as a band he would love to dive into deeper. While not the most obscure band we've ever covered (they have multiple platinum and gold albums in the US and Canada), they have been largely forgotten as the rock giants they once were. We think they should be remembered as titans or rock and thus: Huge-er-er!!! John is joined by Lizzy McAlpine, and co-producer Mason Stoops and co-writer Taylor Mackall, to talk about how they wrote, recorded and produced the album ‘Older (and Wiser)'. Lizzy McAlpine is a singer-songwriter and producer who first gained popularity by sharing covers on SoundCloud and YouTube. Her debut album, ‘Give Me a Minute', arrived in 2020, however, it was her second album, ‘Five Seconds Flat', that solidified her as a rising force, with the platinum-selling single ‘ceilings' becoming a global hit. Her latest record, ‘Older', blurs the lines between studio and stage, exploring themes of heartbreak and self-acceptance; recorded in LA, it was produced by Lizzy and Mason Stoops. Catching up at Miloco's The Pool studio ahead of the London leg of their tour, Lizzy, Mason, and Taylor discuss their approach to writing the album—from Lizzy's intimate, bedroom demos to their collaborative recording process that transformed it into a full band album. In 2016, they officially formed as the Strays, adding a couple players to round out the five-person outfit. After a few years gigging around the state and some festival slots, the band hit it big in 2023 when their song “Wondering Why” went viral on TikTok. It climbed up the Billboard charts and landed the band a deal with RCA Records. That led to their Dave Cobb-produced second studio LP, Made by These Moments, which was released on July 26.In September, the band made their debut at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium on tour behind the record, and guitarists Drew Nix and Zach Rishel brought a beautiful stable of American-made 6-strings for the occasion. Greetings! It's new-episode Thursday, and I'm pleased to say that Dan Perez was my guest for Episode No. 141. Dan is in four bands: 1) a smallish trio outfit with his brother; 2) Whiskey Mash Band; 3) Helping Phriendly Bluegrass Band; and 4) The Kaw Valley Hop Pickers.Dan's silky bass notes in each of those conglomerations don't entirely comprise him, though; he's a son, a sibling, a Phishhead, and a husband (I think he said).I had Dan's Whiskey Mash bandmate, Billy Brady, on for Episode No. 65, so check that one out if you missed it (but not before you get into Dan's episode).Dan and I chewed the fat for an hour or so, and it was solid-good times getting to know him; I learned a bunch, had some laughs, and enjoyed Dan's good-vibe energy. Naturally, we talked about a few of Dan's favorite albums, which were these:The White Album (1968), The BeatlesJohn Hartford's Aereo-Plain (1971)A Live One (1995), PhishJames Brown's The 50th Anniversary Collection (2003)Epic list, really. A perfect mix of familiar with glad-to-know-yas.Note: My gaffes for this conversation include calling it "Tahoe Jam," when it's actually called "Berkeley Jam," and citing "Chalkdust" when it shoulda been "Tweezer" (in regards to the 2012 Phish performance at Starlight Theater in Kansas City.Anyway, I'd tell you to give Dan a Facebook follow, but he doesn't really post there, so plug one or all of those band names into your search bar, and you'll get there.Thank you, Dan. I appreciate the time. And thank you to those of you that read these, listen, etc.Cheers.copyright disclaimer: I do not own the rights to the audio samples contained within this episode. Welcome to season 4, episode 11 of the Today is the Day Changemakers Podcast. This week my guest is Nick Cucci, Executive Director, Recording Academy. It is not often you meet someone who has worked with the likes of David Bowie, Christina Aguilera, Jessica Simpson, Dixie Chicks, Soul Asylum, Harry Connick Jr, Kate Bush, KISS, and the list goes on and on. Nick Cucci started his career working for college radio in NJ. In this episode you will hear how Nick went from local college radio to being the Senior Executive Director for the New York Chapter of the Recording Academy. The Recording Academy does so much for the music industry – the one thing you may recognize is that the Recording Academy produces the Grammy Awards. Before the Recording Academy he held senior positions at Rough Trade Records, Columbia Records, RCA Records and MTV.Nick understands and has seen first-hand the impact that music has on all of our lives. It helps people through difficult times, we listen to it to celebrate milestones, and it is part of our everyday life. Nick has spent his career helping those whose passion and love of the music get their voices and instruments heard by the masses. This story truly is one that proves you really have no idea where your path will lead you and who you will meet along the way. What I loved most about this interview is that you can truly hear how much Nick loves the work he does. It is not just a job or career. Music is embedded in his soul. Please take a moment to follow us on Facebook and Instagram at Today is the Day Live It. Also, we would love it if you would subscribe to the Today is the Day Changemakers YouTube Channel. It helps our guest get their voices heard. At this time this podcast has been heard in 71 countries/territories and 829 cities around the globe. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!Have a great week everyone!
Label: RCA 0234Year: 1974Condition: M-Last Price: $16.00. Not currently available for sale. Finally! Here's a beautiful copy of the original release of this amazing love song, in its first incarnation by the song's writer, the great Dolly Parton. This first release was her followup to "Jolene" and came from the same album. This is the first time I've had the original in the store, and I believe this is the best version of "I Will Always Love You" you can find! Parton topped the charts again in 1982 with a new version of the song, and of course Whitney Houston showed the good taste to record the song in 1992, thereby finally bringing its charms to the pop and soul masses. Inspired by this revival, Dolly teamed up with Vince Gill to record the tune again in 1995! Note: This copy comes in a vintage RCA Records factory sleeve. It grades Near Mint across the board, including the very soft audio, which does have a touch of surface noise in the first few seconds.

Bio (from website) Based in Los Angeles, Richard T Bear boasts a career that spans more than 40 years, one that led to a string of noted solo albums and collaborations with a dizzying list of revered artists. In 1978, he signed with RCA Records and released his debut album, Red, Hot, and Blue, produced by Jack Richardson (Bob Seger, The Guess Who). The album featured a notable group, Les Dudek, Billy Squier, Paul Shaffer, and the Becker Brothers. The album spawned the single “Sunshine Hotel.” A remix of the song climbed to number four on the world dance charts before becoming the dance staple that it remains today. A second album titled Bear includes a rendition of the Rolling Stones' classic “Ruby Tuesday,” followed by The Best of Richard T Bear and Captured Alive, a concert recorded in Hamburg, Germany. In 1984, he moved to Teldec Records, which led to the release of The Bear Truth, and the Giorgio Moroder produced album The Runner. He has appeared on numerous recordings including Crosby, Stills and Nash's “Southern Cross,” The Blues Brothers Soundtrack, Richie Havens Mixed Bag II, Kiss members Gene Simmons and Peter Criss' solo ventures, as well as Toby Beau's hit single “My Angel Baby,” Billy Squier's solo debut Tale of the Tape, and former Rascals Gene Cornish and Dino Danelli. He would also pen the song “Love and Pain,” one of the standout tracks on Cher's blockbuster album Take Me Home. He has shared the stage with artists such as Richie Havens, Odetta, The Doobie Brothers, and Jeff Beck, to name a few.Domestic responsibilities and a struggle to regain his sobriety forced him to put his musical career on hold. In 1983, T Bear gained his sobriety and focused on helping others with addiction, and became instrumental in developing the Musicians Picnic, serving on its board of directors. The annual event led to the creation of the Musicians Assistance Program (MAP), a non-profit organization that is now part of the Recording Academy's MusiCares F Visit the Self-Care Institute at https://www.selfcareinstitute.com/ Support the Show.Visit www.creativepeacemeal.com to leave a review, fan voicemail, and more!Insta @creative_peacemeal_podcastFB @creativepeacemealpodBonfire https://www.bonfire.com/store/creative-peacemeal/Redbubble CPPodcast.redbubble.comCreative Peacemeal READING list here Donate to AhHa!Broadway here! Three-time GRAMMY winner and musical omnivore Bruce Hornsby chats about his wide-ranging career, from pop to bluegrass to jazz! PART ONE:Paul and Scott talk about their Instagram, a wild Genesis fact, and more. PART TWO:Our in-depth conversation with Bruce HornsbyABOUT BRUCE HORNSBY:Thirteen-time Grammy nominee and three-time winner Bruce Hornsby has built one of the most diverse, collaborative, and adventurous careers in contemporary music. In the early 1980s Bruce was writing songs, playing sessions as a musician, and touring as member of Ambrosia and, later, Sheena Easton's backing band. By the middle of the decade he'd formed the group Bruce Hornsby and the Range, signed a deal with RCA Records, and released his debut album, which spawned the hit singles “The Way It Is,” “Mandolin Rain,” and “Every Little Kiss.” As a result, Bruce and the band won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 1987. Their sophomore album, Scenes from the Southside, spawned the hit single “The Valley Road” and included Bruce's own version of “Jacob's Ladder,” a song he co-wrote that became a #1 hit for Huey Lewis. In addition to his own artist career, Bruce began collaborating extensively in that era, including producing Leon Russell, co-writing Don Henley's “The End of the Innocence,” playing piano on Bonnie Raitt's “I Can't Make You Love Me,” and appearing on albums by everyone from Bob Dylan to Stevie Nicks to Willie Nelson. In the late 1980s and early 1990s Bruce increasingly began incorporating elements of bluegrass and jazz into his music. He disbanded the Range to pursue other projects, including becoming a staple of the Grateful Dead's touring lineup. His debut solo album, Harbor Lights, was released in 1993, and he won another Grammy that year, for Best Pop Instrumental, for composing “Barcelona Mona” with Branford Marsalis for the Barcelona Olympics. He released two additional solo studio albums in the 1990s before forming a new band, The Noisemakers, which released four studio albums between 2002 and 2016. In that same period, he collaborated with bluegrass artist Ricky Skaggs to release one studio album and one live album, and with bassist Christian McBride and drummer Jack DeJohnette to release a jazz album called Camp Meeting. Bruce's 2014 album Solo Concerts showcased a sampling of his one-man performances. In 2019 Bruce returned to releasing studio albums as a solo artist with Absolute Zero, an album included collaborations with Blake Mills, Justin Vernon of Bon Iver, and others. Among Bruce's many collaborations includes a longstanding partnership scoring films for director Spike Lee. Earlier this year, Bruce released Deep Sea Vents, a water-themed collaborative album with the band yMusic that was released under the name Brhym.

The album's third single, "Holdin' Heaven," soared to #1 on the Billboard Country Charts, while his remake of Johnny Paycheck's "Someone to Give my Love to" further solidified Byrd's status as a Traditional Country Troubadour. The debut album achieved Gold certification, indicating sales surpassing 500,000 copies.Following the success of his debut, Byrd's sophomore effort, "No Ordinary Man," maintained the momentum with hits like "Lifestyle's of the Not so Rich and Famous" and the chart-topping "Watermelon Crawl," propelling the album to Double Platinum status. The album's fourth single, "The Keeper of the Star's," clinched the #1 spot on both the Billboard Album and Singles charts, earning Byrd an Academy of Country Music's "Song of the Year" award in 1995.Byrd's subsequent albums, including "Love Lessons," "Big Love," and "I'm From the Country," continued to garner critical acclaim and commercial success, with multiple singles reaching the top of the charts. His transition to RCA Records led to the release of "It's About Time," which showcased his affinity for traditional country music. In the new millennium, Byrd's album "10 Rounds" brought further success with hits like "A Good Way to get on my Bad Side" and "10 Rounds with Jose Cuervo," both reaching #1 on the charts. Despite label changes, Byrd's popularity remained steadfast, evident in the success of his subsequent projects and his ability to draw crowds with over 4000 live performances.Taking a hiatus from 2010 to 2013 to prioritize family, Byrd returned to music with newfound sobriety and passion. His album "Different Things" may not have achieved commercial success, but it earned critical acclaim, highlighting Byrd's versatility and depth as an artist. In 2016, Byrd released "All American Texan," marking his return to the studio after a decade. Fuzzy Swing never worked for Tower Records, but he worked at Tower Records in San Francisco as an inventory rep and sales associate on behalf of RCA. In addition to Tower, he had several mom & pop independent stores in the Bay Area. In later years Fuzzy was promoted to sales covering the Sacramento area stores Tower Broadway, Tower Citrus Heights, Tower K Street, Tower Stockton, Tower Chico, and Tower Fresno as well as calling on Tower International and working with the team at Corporate. Fuzzy eventually moved over to CEMA, later EMD holding the position of Regional Director where he came into contact with many more Tower stores nationally. Not bad for a guy who started his retail career in North Carolina in 1970, working for several indie record stores, focusing as a singles buyer, and managing the rock and roll band Frog Level. On this week's episode, Fuzzy walks us through all of this and more. We talk about his visits to Tower Annual Conferences, the annual Halloween parties CEMA threw at the top of the Space Needle in Seattle, Fuzzy's interactions with Russ Solomon and his famous nephew Adam Lambert of American Idol and Queen fame. And as we mentioned at the top, though Fuzzy never worked at Tower, he ended up marrying Tower...he'll explain it all to you in this episode.

After the debut of Britney Spears in late 1998 – record labels across America were all scrambling to find their own Britney. After all, the solo female blonde pop star was a business model that hadn't worked since Madonna debuted in 1983 – every other pop blonde that came out after her came and went. So when Britney stuck – the music industry struck gold. RCA Records got Christina Aguilera, Columbia Records got Jessica Simpson, and Epic Records got a young teenage girl by the name of Mandy Moore. Her first album was a carbon copy of the pop tarts of the time – so for her second official full-length release – she wanted to take some risks. And alas- was born her self-titled album. With middle eastern influenced tracks like “In My Pocket” – heartbreaking ballads like “Cry” and innocently lustful grooves like “Crush” – the album is a second chapter in Mandy's early pop career – and is so nostalgic to so many of us who grew up in that era – so let's take a trip back in time to 2001 and unpack the third release and second official full-length album by Mandy Moore. courtesies: sony music entertainment, fox family, cannel v, launchSupport the show
Remember that time we cranked up Van Halen's '1984' and felt like rock legends in our living room? We're bringing that energy to your ears as we reminisce about the defining tunes and flicks from that remarkable year. Even without Lou 'the professor' on board, we're keeping the vibe electric, discussing everything from RCA Records family tales to the King himself, Elvis. You won't want to miss the laughter and the occasional tear as we navigate the music-infused paths of our memories.Strap in for a podcast episode that's as diverse as a '80s mixtape. We debate the music ban saga of Frankie Goes to Hollywood's "Relax" and how T-shirt slogans became the unlikely megaphones of pop culture. Then, it's a sharp turn into the poignancy of Marvin Gaye's legacy and my own brush with the high stakes of the Border Patrol exam. The stories are rich, the lessons unexpected, and who knew that music history could offer insight into law enforcement?Let's roll up our sleeves and dig into the meaty debates of band lineups, chart-toppers, and those under-the-radar genius musicians who shaped the sound of an era. We laugh, we argue, we pay homage to the greats from George Benson to Squeeze, and tease each other's musical tastes with all the charm of a backstage band squabble. This is more than just a look back at 1984; it's a celebration of the tracks and tales that continue to echo through our lives.

Today's episode begins with a quick Sportscast in which Steven mourns the defeat of his surprisingly good Green Bay Packers and pays tribute to the lovable Detroit Lions (3:49). He and Ian also compare Detroit and San Francisco as music cities — it's Bob Seger vs. Huey Lewis time! Then they do a quick update of the winter Fantasy Albums Draft, as it is a big day for Steven's team with new releases by The Smile and Katy Kirby. (11:25) Then they break down The Smile's Wall Of Eyes, which sounds like a Radiohead album that's 90 percent as good.Next comes Steven's most anticipated part of the episode — it's an Ian Cohen pop quiz where Steven lists off 10 albums and asks Ian if he reviewed them for Pitchfork (25:45). This is taking "Remember Some Guys" to a whole new level. Then the guys address the discourse around Alex G's recent signing to RCA Records and whether he has the potential to become "Boygenius big." (40:38) In the mailbag, a listener asks about the recent commercial featuring a Das Racist oldie and an "explanation" of Hozier's success (48:25).In Recommendation Corner (1:00:31), Ian talks up the latest from the British band Courting and Steven reiterates Ian's recent rave for Glass Beach.New episodes of Indiecast drop every Friday. When John Denver died in a plane crash in October 1997, the world lost not just a popular singer, but a songwriter whose work touched the hearts of millions. Among the 300 or so songs that he recorded, some 200 he wrote. He had 33 gold records, and was uncommonly successful in crossing genre lines, from country to adult contemporary to the Billboard Hot 100. . In this 1994 interview, Denver talks about his career and the challenges he faced. Candice Lim is joined by culture journalist Cat Sposato to trace the rise of this year's most promising pop act, Tate McRae. McRae gained national attention as a 12-year-old dancer on So You Think You Can Dance. While pursuing a legitimate dance career, she posted an original song on YouTube that led RCA Records to bet on her as the next big pop star. After two albums, certain people on the internet still accuse McRae of being an industry plant, but her path has been oddly traditional and well-documented online. So was McRae an industry plant or an inevitable star? This podcast is produced by Se'era Spragley Ricks, Daisy Rosario, Candice Lim and Rachelle Hampton. Learn more about your ad choices. We had the pleasure of interviewing TOBi over Zoom video!Nigerian born, Los Angeles-based artist TOBi announces new album PANIC set to be released on October 12th via RCA Records. Alongside the announcement, TOBi shares new bold and fiery track “Flatline” featuring label mate Kenny Mason. Backed by a recurring staccato piano, the track is a smooth blend of both TOBi and Kenny's vocality and highlights TOBi's quick-witted lyricism. In addition to the new release, TOBi and his team have also created an interactive digital universe and social fan club. You can now join at PANIC.FM.TOBi on his single “Flatline”: "This is unapologetic soul music. Power is a theme I explore a lot in my music and this one is about personal power. I wanted anyone hearing this song to feel that energy going into any situation. A game, a job interview, a performance. Transform that pain into power." Earlier this year, TOBi took home another Juno Award for Rap Album/EP of the Year for Shall I Continue? making this his second win following his 2020 album ELEMENTS Vol. 1 that won the 2021 Rap Recording of the Year. Last year, his elevated COLORS performance of “Flowers” was released and his song “Move” was featured on Netflix's Do Revenge starring Camila Mendes (Riverdale) and Maya Hawke (Stranger Things). He also performed at Afrochella at the end of last year. Prior to this, “All Night Long,” “She Loves Me” and “Flowers,” he released his Alex Goose-produced single and video “Before We Panic” featuring Mikky Ekko (written for Rihanna, A$AP Rocky, Drake), which was a prelude to his forthcoming album. The artistic visual was shot and directed by Dom McLennon (BROCKHAMPTON) and Jeremy Grier. We want to hear from you!
