On Saturday, a U.S. F-22 Raptor fighter jet shot down a Chinese reconnaissance balloon off the coast of South Carolina. The balloon had been tracked for several days flying over the continental United States, as well as Alaska and Canada. According to U.S. Air Force General Glen VanHerk, the balloon may have been carrying explosives, giving it the capability to self-destruct.
