4-24-24 Wednesday Night Service Just the Word Psalms 91 -Brother James Toston The Goodness of God - Brother Rob Carlson
An episode from THE BIBLE Baptist Church, a Bible believing, Bible preaching church in DeLand, Florida. What THE BIBLE Baptist Church (TBBC) Believes: “A church is not a social organization or a club. It is a gathering of men and women who have put their faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. These people meet together to worship the Lord, to praise Him, to encourage one another to live lives pleasing to the Savior and to be instructed in the truths of the Holy Bible. It is also a place from which these believers go forth, individually and in groups, to spread the gospel of Christ Jesus to men and women the world over. The extent to which the blessing of the Lord abides upon a church and the effectiveness of a church in the aforementioned areas depends upon its understanding of and obedience to the words of God. There are certainly clearly stated truths found in scripture to which all believers must steadfastly adhere. A collection of individuals, each living in accord with their opinions or religious notions, can accomplish little for Christ. A gathering of men and women who have a like-minded faith in a foundational set of Biblical truths can do great things for the Lord. Below are those truths upon which we have built THE BIBLE Baptist Church. Should you have other questions please feel free to ask. Our people and leaders are available and more than happy to let you know what we do and why. It is our hope and prayer that the Lord will direct you to become a vital part of the gospel work which He has given us to do.” You may write to THE BIBLE Baptist Church at: 872 Glenwood Rd. Welcome to DIYbio.FM, a new podcast exploring the state of the DIYbio movement. Each episode, we’ll be talking to experts and amateurs, working with communities and garage biologists, and even trying out DIYbio projects of our own to answer one question - are we really in the midst of a DIYbio revolution? Today we examine how the DIYbio movement got its start, looking back to why garage biology didn't take off in the 1970's and contrasting that with the present day where students around the world compete making genetically engineered machines. We even get our hands dirty (wet?) and extract DNA from a strawberry! In a conversation with Rob Carlson, we learn why the DIYbio movement is important, not only for our individual curiosity, but also for our economy. Each episode, we’ll be talking to experts and amateurs, working with communities and garage biologists, and even trying out DIYbio projects of our own to answer one question - are we really in the midst of a DIYbio revolution? Episode 00 - the very beginning. We’re starting simple this week (at least, we thought we were) by trying to define exactly what DIYbio is. It turned to be a harder question to tackle than we expected. To help us, we sought the expertise of some experienced DIYbiologists, including Bioeconomy Capital managing director Rob Carlson, and BioCurious community lab project manager Maria Chavez. To dive a little further into the question, we also took a look at who does DIYbio in this episode, landing an interview with wicked-cool artist Heather Dewey-Hagborg. Not only does Heather Dewey-Hagborg have a name you could joyfully repeat for ages (which we do non-stop in minutes 1:00-15:50 of Episode 00), she also shows us what DIYbio is through her project Stranger Visions. Rob Carlson has a curve named after him. And not just any curve. Rob predicted long ago that the doubling time of DNA technologies would be as fast as that of computer power. They turned out to be faster! The Economist basically named the 'Carlson Curve' the biotechnology equivalent of Moore’s law. A visionary thought leader of the bioeconomy, he is as much interested in the development of machine making custom DNA as he is concerned about the ethical and societal context of the application of biotechnology. In 2010 he published Biology is Technology: The Promise, Peril, and New Business of Engineering Lifeat Harvard University Press. Today, he is the Managing Director of venture capital firm Bioeconomy Capital.
Rob Carlson has a lifetime behind him of doing radio spots, voice-over work, and stylistic parody songs. His band, , rivals Weird Al for lyrical syncopation and humor. Yo talks to Rob about the blues, festivals, and Vikings.
