In this profound and hope-filled Advent message, Pastor Karl continues the Christmas series with an honest, Scripture-saturated exploration of the third great gift Jesus brings: joy. Turning to the familiar yet astonishing encounter in Luke 1:26–38, Pastor Karl places us in the world of a young, powerless Mary—living in obscurity, poverty, and spiritual dryness under Roman oppression—when an angel suddenly declares her “highly favored” and announces she will bear the Son of God as a virgin. With pastoral clarity and compassion, Pastor Karl redefines biblical joy not as a forced smile, fleeting happiness, or denial of pain, but as a deep, settled confidence and calm cheerfulness in God—even when circumstances feel devastating. Mary's potentially ruinous situation (public shame, rejection, and lifelong stigma) becomes the backdrop for a joy that is rooted not in perfect conditions but in surrender to a perfect Savior. Joy, he shows, is not situational; it flows from trusting God's greater reality, His unchanging character, and His presence when clarity is absent.Drawing from Mary's radical response—“Let it be to me according to your word”—Pastor Karl tenderly calls every listener to the same doorway of lasting joy: radical surrender. Whether facing disappointment, health struggles, dashed dreams, or seasons of grief, joy grows when we release control, timelines, and the need to understand, and instead say “Yes, Lord” to whatever He has spoken. This is essential listening for anyone longing to move beyond seasonal happiness into the quiet, resilient cheerfulness that only Christ, born in a manger and risen from an empty tomb, can give.Watch all our sermons on our youtube channel "Flipside Christian Church"Join us in person 9:00am & 10:30am every Sunday morning.37193 Ave 12 #3h, Madera, CA 93636For more visit us at flipside.churchFor more podcasts visit flipsidepodcasts.transistor.fm

How can art serve as a powerful way to honor pregnancy, birth, and parenting experiences—especially for families who are often underrepresented in birth spaces? In this episode, Dr. Rebecca Dekker explores this question with Lauren J. Turner, a Baltimore-based artist, birth worker, and founder of Birth Nerds. Lauren shares how her own home birth experiences, her journey with postpartum and neurodivergence, and a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis shaped her path into birth work and fine art. Together, Rebecca and Lauren explore how art can be a healing, meditative process for birthing families, and a meaningful tool for birth workers to honor their clients' journeys. Lauren opens up about creating paintings that reflect diverse parenting experiences—from lactation to the NICU—and how she uses bold colors and imagery to bring visibility to Black and Brown families in maternal health. Pastor Harold brings us a word of peace this weekend as we continue our series called "In Joy." We can't wait to see how God works.
Welcome back to the Rhythm Restoration Podcast, I'm your host, Liz Bagwell. In Episode 42, we kick off our enlightening new series, "Unbound: Freedom to Live a Life of Joy, Peace, and Purpose." This series explores the heavy burdens that life and adversity place on us—such as depression, anxiety, trauma, perfectionism, and more. We will be unpacking the science of these, going over what is happening in our brains and bodies as well as looking at individuals in scripture and wisdom from text and science to show us how to resiliently and biblically unbind ourselves, restore our peace and step forward into joy and purpose, even when it is messy. For this first episode in our series, I am bringing you out with me to...the desert, my desert and share a different perspective on redemption and obedience. This is the part of most people's stories that they leave out, but I promised you I'd be raw and vulnerable; sharing the good, the bad and the ugly, and I meant it. In this episode, you'll discover: How we can find redemption and peace, even in our desert seasons Lessons in obedience Examples of bringing our emotions, including anger and grief to God and what happens when we do. The importance of not only listening to hear what God is saying to us but keeping our eyes on Him too. Want to learn more about science & scripture? Let's connect! When we have gone through pain, failure, suffering, or humiliation we can quickly forget that Jesus paid for us to be at peace, joyful and free. This sounds easier said than done when you're looking at it from your humanity instead of looking at the cross. These blessings are gifts to us from Jesus and all we need to do is embrace them and believe His word trumps whatever we may see in the natural or have faced in the past. You can also ask the Holy Spirit to help you embrace these gifts if you need an extra push. // Meditated Passage: John 19. Stay encouraged in the Lord!
