NICOLAS MASSON, musicien Objet de lecture : « L'Usage du monde » , de Nicolas Bouvier (1963) Nicolas Masson est né à Genève en 1972. A 19 ans, parti seul en train pour six mois en Asie, il termine son périple à New York, après un saut en Suisse pour récupérer son saxophone. Il rencontre Cecil Taylor dès le soir de son arrivée et tombe dans le chaudron de l'improvisation libertaire en étudiant avec Frank Lowe, Makanda McIntyre, passant de longues nuits à parler musique avec Fred Hopkins ou Dizzy Reece. De retour à Genève, il s'inscrit au Conservatoire populaire et obtient son diplôme professionnel de performance et d'enseignement en 2000. Entre 1995 et 2000, il travaille comme photographe pour le Grand Théâtre de Genève. Enregistrant pour les labels ECM records, Clean Feed Records et Fresh Sound/New Talent, il a travaillé avec nombre de musiciens renommés tels que Ben Monder, Gerald Cleaver, Thomas Morgan, Kenny Wheeler, Kris Davis, Eivind Opsvik, Russ Lossing, Colin Vallon, Patrice Moret, Lionel Friedli, Susanne Abbuehl, Samuel Blaser, Bojan Z. Il enseigne le saxophone et la clarinette au Conservatoire populaire de Genève et dirige des ensembles de jazz à l'AMR. Ses photographies ont illustré sept albums de ECM Records.

Por Pachi Tapiz. El trombonista suizo Samuel Blaser (integrante del Cuarteto Europa de Baldo Martínez), ha publicado en septiembre de 2018 Early In The Mornin' (Out There Music - Out Note Records). Al igual que ocurre con alguna de sus grabaciones anteriores, esta obra está centrada en una temática determinada, que en este caso es la del blues. En esta inmersión musical aparecen revisiones de temas tradicionales como "Black Betty", "Creepy Crawler" o "Lonesome Road Blues" de Sam Collins, junto a sus composiciones que se introducen en esta tradición musical. Para este nuevo proyecto (que en su gira de presentación tendrá una parada en Cádiz), cuenta con la colaboración del pianista y teclista Russ Lossing, el contrabajista Masa Kamaguchi y el baterista Gerry Hemingway, así como con la participación como invitados especiales en algunos de los temas de Oliver Lake (saxo alto), y Wallace Roney (trompeta).
