Shabazz Muhammad was the projected number 1 overall pick out of high school but he washed out of the NBA by age 25. Now he's trying to make a comeback and this is a look at what he's had to go through on his way back to an NBA roster.
The Kings played the Magic in what was perhaps the greatest Summer League game of all time on Saturday afternoon. The Big 3 of Murray, Ellis and Queta all showed out with impressive stat lines and impact all over the floor. They took Paolo Banchero and the Magic to 2 overtimes who by the skin of their teeth were able to outlast the Kings in sudden death in the 2nd overtime. The Kings followed that up by taking care of business against the Indiana Pacers and their new draft pick Benedict Mathurin in a game that was way closer than it needed to be. Up next will be the Thunder with hopefully Chet Holmgren and the Phoenix Suns, let's see if the Kings keep this momentum up and the new prospect continue to impress and give Kings fans new optimism for the next season. We also talk potential trade targets (Hint: get some Wings) as well as the Kings planning workouts for Matthew Dellavedova, Quinn Cook and Shabazz Muhammad. The Ringer’s Chris Vernon and Kevin O’Connor discuss the recent Jimmy Butler–led Minnesota Timberwolves surge (0:58), speculate about the Phoenix Suns’ future with Devin Booker at the helm (18:33), and debate the change in the role of 3-pointers (31:09). Then, they analyze how the San Antonio Spurs have managed to thrive in the absence of key players (37:31), wonder if DeMarcus Cousins should be shooting 3s (46:01), and evaluate the likelihoods of recent trade rumors (48:23).
Dan Moore joins the program to discuss the Timberwolves and how Minnesota is taking in the newfound success. How has Teague fit in and would Rubio have been a better fit? What about the Andrew Wiggins max extension? Can their defense and bench carry them deep into the playoff or do they have a Shabazz Muhammad problem. The Timberwolves clearly are ready to go young completely, with the exception of a man with that very name, Young. Corey Brewer has been traded, to give way to Shabazz Muhammad, who has been on a scoring tear for weeks now.
