On the flip side, she's learned how to see both sides of an issue.  12:45 - KD asks Tim and JLee if they made any changes to how they speak after the first episodes. JLee said she tries to start fewer sentences with “well” or “so”. KD tried to be crisper with his speaking cadence.  16:30 - KD says the text group should be a podcast. Release the messages! 18:30 - Is KD the most guarded on the podcast? Tim says so and JLee thinks that could be true. Tim says it's his political savviness that leads this.  20:00 - Any other flat pillow lovers? JLee is a flat pillow person. KD likes a fluffy pillow you can sink into.  22:30 - JLee asks the crew what episode they thought was interesting and offered a different perspective. JLee's answer is Episode 79 - Why Are Males Increasingly Opting Out Of College.  25:00 - Tim and KD are still bitter that Gary V requested to connect with JLee on LinkedIn instead of them. JLee is still pining for him to come on the pod! 28:00 - Episode 66 - Geriatric Millennials and HR Influencer Lists is still a point of contention! 31:00 - Tim asks the question “who did you learn the most from?”. Tim says KD because he always thinks he knows what he's going to say but he comes in with different takes often.

Justise Winslow came back, Kris Dunn looked more comfortable. But the bulk of today's show is about NBA prospects from the ACC. What makes forward Paolo Banchero a lock to be a top three pick? We kick off the show with a deep look at Banchero's strengths and what makes him so special. But Banchero isn't the only Duke underclassmen likely to go in the lottery. AJ Griffin might be the best shooter available in the Top 10 and big man Mark Williams has a chance to be an impact defender in the late lottery. Two Tar Heels talking about future pros from Duke. What more could you want?. But with potentially five pros on the roster, Duke is worth taking a look at as we enter the NCAA tournament. Josh Hart went full Vesuvius, erupting for a career-high 44 points in the Portland Trail Blazers win over the Washington Wizards on Saturday. It ended a six-game losing streak for the Blazers who hadn't been within single digits of anyone since the All-Star break. Hart missed six shots. He was absolutely bonkers. Even amidst a super aggressive tank job it's okay to appreciate a fun win over now and then, and the Blazers finally got one of those thanks to Hart and a career-best 27 points from Trendon Watford. There's some roster news to discuss as well, as Anfernee Simons is out for 1-2 weeks with mild patellar tendinopathy in his left knee. With Simons out for at least a few games and probably more, the Blazers added veteran point guard Kris Dunn on a 10-day contract. Dunn hasn't played much since the 2019-20 season but is a low risk insurance option that has some defensive upside. Drew Eubanks also inked another 10-day deal, his third such short-term pact with the team. Finally, Joe Cronin has been ultra aggressive in tearing down the Blazers in a short period of time. Let's take a moment to appreciate a man willing to take a massive risk on a team that had become stagnant. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Be sure to subscribe, rate, and review (iTunes) and follow (Spotify)! 1:45 - Any Station Eleven fans? Tim feels some kinship because it takes place around his home, the Great Lakes.  5:30 - JLee remembers KD's commitment to do 100 pull ups a day. He says he doesn't do them everyday but he can do 120-150 reps. 7:30 - JLee asks a question about work from home etiquette. She was on a call with someone that was at a standing desk. She felt like the person standing was being imposing. 12:30 - Anyone else eat spaghetti on Zoom? JLee does. And tomato soup… 13:00 - Coaching is all the rage. JLee asks why it's so popular and who the type of person is that becomes a coach. Tim thinks it's all the boomers that early-retired during the pandemic.  17:00 JLee wonders when a coach is even necessary and if an AI bot would just be a better option to chat.  19:00 - Tim went to a coach once and he just felt like all the coach was doing was agreeing with what he was already thinking and doing.  21:45 - KD wonders what percentage of coaches can actually deliver what someone needs. He thinks only 10-20%.  24:45 - JLee wonders why people want to separate the pay conversation from a performance review. Tim agrees and doesn't understand it either.  28:00 - Tim's first pay increase in a corporate environment was 3% and he was furious. He couldn't wrap his head around it.  32:00 - KD starts doing a mock performance review/pay conversation with JLee. The pay will never be what you want.  34:00 - KD says people don't contrast good vs. great enough.

She just finished Station Eleven and is watching And Just Like That.  5:20 - Tim has been loving season 2 of Righteous Gemstones. He says it's his guilty pleasure.  9:00 - KD recommends Southside on HBO Max. He calls it “lighter fare” in comparison to the post-apocalyptic Station Eleven.  11:45 - KD found a Twitter thread from an economist about the rising concern from employees about inflation and how it affects their pay. KD asks JLee how much concern there actually is about inflation.  18:00 - Tim doesn't think the average Glassdoor reviewer is mentioning raises due to inflation but the average employe e may be discussing inflation while asking for a raise.  21:20 - KD poses a situation to Tim where an employee comes in and tells him that his company's pay isn't keeping up with inflation.  23:20 - Next topic: the power dynamics of using automated calendars. KD mentions this tweet about the etiquette behind Calendly.  26:00 - Tim doesn't get how it's a power play for someone to send a meeting link to someone else for a pre-arranged meeting. JLee offers a different power play scenario that fits the bill.  28:30 - If you click a Calendly link, does that make you somebody's b****? JLee and Tim don't see what the big deal is. They also both do not use an automated calendar system.  33:00 - KD says that the person that sends their Calendly link after someone has already sent one is the true power graber.  40:00 - We're pulling for an early summer!!!

She says that she often goes to the pantry in the middle of calls and comes back in with a snack.  13:20 - JLee has a job opening and she's ready to post the job but is worried about posting it during the holidays. KD says she should post the job right away with no hesitation. Tim talks about how post-new year's, many people will have new found motivation. 16:30 - Here is the link to the Marriott job JLee is hiring for! JLee asks the crew what they think their employees' response was.  26:00 - KD mentions how sales people at a company carry a huge burden to bring in the revenue for a business. Tim says that his sales employees have to bring in 5 to 6 times their salary in order to provide for the entire company.  28:30 - JLee mentions that Tim's answer was pretty spot on. Some asked for more money, some asked for more benefits, and some didn't ask for anything more.  30:00 - KD thinks the baller move is to ask for a 3-day work week rather than a pay increase.  32:00 - JLee mentions that some Audi employees get free cars, comped car insurance, and some money for gas!

Tim chose Michael Jackson just over Prince.  15:15 - JLee saw Yao Ming in her office once and was blown away by how big he was and how it impacts every part of his life.  16:30 - Tim mentions an article about how Uber made it's users okay with waiting. He relates to a candidate experience perspective and asks how HR pros and recruiters could put something in place to make waiting better.  18:00 - KD thinks that hiring managers need to commit to a day that they will make their decision and communicate that date. It's the equivalent of arrival time for Uber! 20:00 - Tim says that ATS status updates are too high-level and unspecific.  24:00 - JLee has the idea to do “hiring manager ratings” just like “driver ratings” that are on rideshare apps. Tim iterates off that and comes up with “number of interviews/hires” just like “number of rides”. 25:15 - In 2021, the US population grew .1%. This is the lowest amount since 1918, when the influenza pandemic and World War 1 were happening. Tim thinks this is a major demographic issue where we aren't replacing as fast as we are losing people.  27:30 - Tim asks the crew how revamping immigration could help fight against this problem. JLee and Tim discuss making it easier for people to immigrate by focusing on the process.  31:00 - KD mentions how 300,000 visas sounds miniscule for what is actually needed to help with the lack of workers issue in this country.

He had a call with 900 employees that were getting laid off and rather than having the entire company on the call, they laid off everyone on the call. 13:00 - Tim says that both him and KD have been in companies that had to do massive layoffs and they still found time to make it personal and not so heartless. 16:30 - The Better.com CEO accused his employees of only working 2 hours a day and “stealing from the company”.  21:00 - Garg is taking time off effectively immediately. SHOW HIGHLIGHTS: 3:00 - KD asks Tim what his favorite OG from old-school rap is. He loves LL Cool J and JLee likes Dr. Dre because of his purple satin suit.  5:15 - KD has been hitting business travel hard over the last few weeks. He has been in 4 different locations after not having much at all for the last year and a half. He has really started to notice the different mentalities to COVID precautions/mask wearing in different parts of the country.  8:00 - KD was surprised by the strict mask mandates that were in place in Las Vegas when he and Tim were there for a conference.  11:00 - JLee is happy that the housekeeper at the hotel that KD stayed at felt empowered enough to enforce mask mandate policy. 14:30 - On a Southwest flight recently, KD heard the initial reactions of Southwest employees to a vaccine mandate. 17:00 - Tim mentions how some airlines offered early retirement to pilots during the pandemic and are now begging pilots to come back to work.  20:00 - KD wrote a post recently titled “Are you a jerk for sending an email at 9 pm?”. KD references a study where they looked at this and they found that receivers of late emails overestimated the quickness of response needed.  23:00 - JLee thinks that people in their mid-career won't care when emails are sent and more senior employees may be more careful with their messaging.  25:30 - If the future of remote work offers more flexibility, Tim thinks that email send time doesn't matter as much anymore (with caveats).  28:45 - There are folks out there that are very anti-after hours emails.  32:00 - Tim doesn't understand the people that want to have their cake and eat it too. How are we going to be working flexibly and then also defining after hours? 37:30 - JLee thinks it's a power move to opt out of group messages, like group texts or chain emails. KD thinks it's better to opt out instead of not participating at all.  ---------------Jessica Lee, Kris Dunn and Tim Sackett Kinetix HRU Tech Jessica Lee on LinkedIn Tim Sackett on Linkedin Kris Dunn on LinkedIn The Tim Sackett Project The HR Capitalist Fistful of Talent Boss Leadership Training Series

Listen below (click this link if you don't see the player) and be sure to subscribe, rate, and review (Apple Podcasts) and follow (Spotify)! SHOW HIGHLIGHTS: 2:00 - Halloween is coming soon! JLee asks the crew if they're dressing up for the holiday this year.  4:15 - JLee wonders if she is forcing fun onto her friends, family, and co-workers by making them do fall/Halloween related activities. Tim says that people almost always have fun when they're forced to partake in these types of activities.  8:00 - How do you feel about group costumes? The crew goes back and forth on good group costumes.  10:30 -  JLee saw a post on LinkedIn of an update from a CHRO at a major company. She reads the update to Tim and KD and then reveals that the company is Zillow.  12:45 - KD is softening to the approach of not factoring in location when determining salary/pay.  16:45 - JLee notes that certain brands have the privilege to exercise changes in pay and salary because people are willing to give something up to work for your brand.  18:40 - Tim worries that the fact that companies are doubling down on not changing pay based on location will result in something bad happening years down the line.  22:00 - JLee wonders if everyone is overreacting to these discussions and changes in company policies. She thinks some things will just go back to how they were and this might just blow over.  24:00 - JLee praises KD for changing his opinion and having the ability to develop a new stance on something.  25:00 - JLee got a promotion! She asks Tim and KD for some advice on her new job.  28:00 - KD advises JLee to give patience to new people that she is now managing. He advises her to walk the line between being patient but also being decisive when the time comes.  31:30 - Tim advises JLee to bring a third party, within the company, to lead transition meetings in order to give a voice to her new employees.  36:30 - JLee asks Tim and KD how to manage new stresses with a new job at home when it comes to family. Tim says your time becomes more valuable and there are things you have to figure out that will make your life easier.  39:00 - JLee mentions that her husband recently reached out about any extra support she needs now with a new job. SHOW HIGHLIGHTS: 3:00 - Tim is a TikTok user and often sends them to his closest friends & family, including KD and JLee. JLee deleted the app so she only gets them from Tim now.  5:00 - There is a new TikTok trend where someone asks a question like “tell me blank” and people respond to the original. The Amazon brand account created one where the question was “what was the best thing you ever got off of Amazon” and an employee responded and said “my career”. Tim thinks Amazon has a great TikTok employment branding presence.  8:15 - KD thinks that social media recruiting only works on platforms that display company and job titles. 13:00 - JLee thinks that recruiters may get off the rails and try to improve their own personal brand. She thinks that a lot of recruitment marketing content is cheap and unoriginal.  15:00 - Cameron, Tim's son, recently shared a TikTok with Tim where a young worker was sharing the advice to job hop in order to increase salaries.  16:00 - JLee thinks the only reason to job hop is to get different experiences and try new things.  17:30 - KD says the concept of job hopping is not new but the advice is. He also thinks that 2 years is the perfect time for a young person to job hop.  21:30 - Tim and JLee say that if you're hopping laterally to several different jobs, there has to be a story behind it.  24:30 - JLee worries that if you're making progression in your career but you are hopping from company to company that you aren't good enough to ever get promoted internally.  26:00 - AppCast recently came out with data for companies that are struggling to get applicants. Some of their advice includes shortening your apply cycle and posting jobs at the start of the week and the end of the month. 29:00 - Tim says that only 1/10 TA leaders know where applicants are dropping off on their application process.  32:00 - Another piece of advice is to include at least 2 specific benefits in the job posting. This improved application rates by at least 40%. ---------------Jessica Lee, Kris Dunn and Tim Sackett Kinetix HRU Tech Jessica Lee on LinkedIn Tim Sackett on Linkedin Kris Dunn on LinkedIn The Tim Sackett Project The HR Capitalist Fistful of Talent Boss Leadership Training Series

JLee mentions a co-worker who had a misspelling error.  7:15 - Tim talks about how the “meeting after the meeting” is now happening during the meeting on Zoom.  9:15 - How cognizant are you of your exclamation point usage in emails? JLee says she doesn't limit herself like she once did.  12:00 - KD mentions the book Bad Blood by Ramesh Balwani that is about Theranos and their blood testing.  14:00 - KD reads text messages between Elizabeth Homes and Sunny Balwani that were uncovered by the prosecutors at the ongoing Theranos trial.  19:00 - KD thinks that the prosecutor should have a running screen at the trial of the best text exchanges between Holmes and Balwani. 22:30 - JLee warns everyone that text messages can be discovered even if they are deleted.  24:00 - The People Infrastructure Bill coming from the Biden administration has a lot of things that impact the workplace. KD brings up paid leave and the new policy. This policy includes paid leave for almost all workers that have earned wages in the last 6 months.  26:00 - Tim's initial reaction is torn because he wants to have the paid leave benefits for American people and families but he worries about the actual financial cost of these policies.  29:00 - JLee mentions how it's hard to manage paid leave in a multi-state work environment and how some of these policies could help ease those complications.  31:00 - Tim says that HR pros may be the worst to talk about paid leave because they see all the people that take advantage of systems that are in place to help people.  36:00 - KD reads the 9 states that currently have 9 paid leave laws. He thinks it might involve some body language training, non-verbal affirmations, and listening skills.  10:30 - KD asks if a young Chinese man would rather go into an industrial career or this type of job. Tim notes that they want them to be college educated, pop-culturally savvy, amongst other qualifications.  12:45 - Recently an economic study found that 30 year olds across time and generations don't have any major change in wealth attained and acquired although, there has been a growing dissatisfaction with the wealth gap in the US amongst young people.  15:15 - KD mentions that he doesn't know a lot of Boomers that grew up with a lot of wealth or privilege and how our transition into a consumption society has tainted young people's view of the world.  17:30 - “Comparison is the thief of joy.” - Kris Dunn 21:40 - Tim recently went to SHRM annual and is headed to another SHRM conference with KD. Tim has noticed a small but vocal group on social media trying to stop people from going to these in-person conferences.  24:50 - Tim thinks it's brave of HR Tech to mandate vaccines for their in-person conferences since it's alienating about 30% of the potential audience. KD thinks that it's not brave because they were trying to maximize the biggest audience possible.  28:30 - Tim noticed that there were a lot of extroverts at the SHRM conference and that they were very engaged. 31:40 - Catch Tim and KD at HR Tech from Sep 28 to Oct 1!

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS: 3:00 - KD sent a note to JLee about women's workplace fashion coming out of COVID and learned a lot in the back and forth. 7:15 - What would you tell someone in 2021 who was sick of their job and wanted to quit?  Should they wait before they have another job and join what's been called "The Great Resignation", where people quit before having their next gig lined up. Is this a generational thing? 9:30 - JLee thinks that the ability to quit a job before getting another job has a privilege that many others don't have.  11:00 - Tim says it's a proven fact that it's easier to get a job when you have a job. He says don't quit a job until you have the next.  13:00 - KD mentions an article from the Wall Street Journal about the declining rate of men choosing to attend college.  College campuses are becoming a split 60/40 female to male. 15:00 - Tim says this is only an issue if we have a functional way to get men into trade skills careers and other similar types of jobs. KD thinks that pointing to alternatives to college as a reason for the drop is not the whole story. 19:30 - KD asks JLee if she can't fathom a world where men become a focus point for colleges and the companies they serve, or if she believes the world will be unwilling to do that.  She thinks both. 20:00 - JLee wonders if there is too much pride in this country to develop programs to build up and take care of young boys through programming. Kris discusses how cultural changes and resulting shifts on campus have created a mismatch between how young men view themselves from a masculinity perspective and their view of campus life. 24:30 - JLee notes that she thinks educational environments don't often do a good job catering to a diverse set of students and that this could be part of the larger issue of men choosing not to attend college.  26:45 - Tim thinks there are only 3 avenues for graduates from public schools and that a lot of students aren't ready/aren't a good fit for college. 31:45 - JLee says that a man cannot be the one that is the voice and the face of a male-centered campaign to help with this declining rate.  Tim points to the fact that a man trying to lead the cause would be seen as an uber conservative. KD wonders aloud why the topic of masculinity can only be viewed as negative and viewed in an extreme way when different versions of masculinity exists and all are not toxic. ---------------Jessica Lee, Kris Dunn and Tim Sackett Kinetix HRU Tech Jessica Lee on LinkedIn Tim Sackett on Linkedin Kris Dunn on LinkedIn The Tim Sackett Project The HR Capitalist Fistful of Talent Boss Leadership Training Series

They want some sort of database that is like LinkedIn that will allow them to search for new hires in their areas. 19:00 - Tim hired 2 new grads to his company and he had to reach out to career services directly in order to get on Handshake since he had a ”low trust score”.  21:30 - MarketWatch recently released an article about an upset HR executive that deleted 17,000 resumes from their system after being fired. His wife doesn't know how she's going to make it through the year… 5:30 - In a shout out to "no one really knows anything", KD mentions a report from the UAB that said 40% of a state is going to get COVID between July and September because of the Delta variant. The majority will show no symptoms. Is that bad?  No one really knows.  Songs from the band Chicago are cited. 9:30 - Google's rolled out a new internal calculator explaining potential pay cuts to employees who choose to work remotely and people are getting penalized. Reuters reported on screenshots of this calculator. 12:00 - JLee gives Google a thumbs up for being a leader on the forefront of salary changing by location. 14:00 - Tim discusses the thought process that this is built on: I should get paid the same regardless of where I live. The reality is that every market substantiates different pay levels.  17:45 - JLee mentions that this decision is a hard one to make and someone has to be the leader on this forefront. She also mentions that there's definitely room to change if there's backlash.  22:45 - Are people taking on second jobs while they work from home? There's a book coming out from an individual about their story working two remote jobs. Check out more at their website. They came out with 12 rules about working two remote jobs, top of the list being “don't talk about your other job”.  26:50 - One of their rules is “be average”. JLee says that this is when it falls apart. She says to kick butt at job #1 and work your way up there, instead of being average at 2 different jobs.  29:00 - KD asks the crew what percentage of adults work 2 jobs. JLee says 10% and Tim and KD say 1%.  30:30 - Tim had this happen to him with a contractor who was working 2 jobs.  34:30 - Tim thinks that people are too afraid of retaliation/being found out so he's sticking with his 1% guess of people that work more than 1 job remotely. ---------------Jessica Lee, Kris Dunn and Tim Sackett Kinetix HRU Tech Jessica Lee on LinkedIn Tim Sackett on Linkedin Kris Dunn on LinkedIn The Tim Sackett Project The HR Capitalist Fistful of Talent Boss Leadership Training Series

JLee says that only when she's said something bad about that boss.  10:30 - JLee asks Tim and KD if they think people are worried their bosses are reading their actual emails. Tim says that it partly is an HR narrative issue and he says most times actual people aren't monitoring, it's technical processes that are.  13:15 - While Tim was working at Applebee's, his boss got flagged that he was spending a lot of time on Facebook. At the time, they were trying to do some recruiting initiatives on the platform.  17:00 - JLee asks if it's okay for her to judge her team members for having such expensive phone plans.  19:30 - Tim loves to mess with KD and JLee by sending them annoying messages while they're presenting in a meeting so the notifications pop up for everyone to see… 24:00 - LinkedIn's CEO recently published a post titled “We Trust Each Other”. They decided to go back to work half-time and this posts reflects on their decision and revises their policy, where moving forward they're offering more flexibility to their employees and where they work.  27:00 - JLee applauds them for this messaging, even though they are backpedaling on their original announcement. She likes messages with the world ‘trust' and thinks it's smart from a communication perspective. ---------------Jessica Lee, Kris Dunn and Tim Sackett Kinetix HRU Tech Jessica Lee on LinkedIn Tim Sackett on Linkedin Kris Dunn on LinkedIn The Tim Sackett Project The HR Capitalist Fistful of Talent Boss Leadership Training Series

What a beast.  9:30 - JLee is teaching her children about the Olympics and how they should root for everyone to do well and be happy for all the winners. Great sports life lessons! 11:00 - The majority of the US Olympic team are women. This is the third straight Olympics where women outnumber men for Team USA.  12:15 - JLee asks Tim and KD what the weirdest thing they've seen to help with hiring. She saw a Wendy's that was offering a free meal to do an interview for a job. KD says that the lack of change by some companies has been the oddest thing to him. 15:45 - JLee shouts out Chipotle for hopping on TikTok to ramp up hiring.  17:20 - Tim talks about how Chipotle got an influencer to come in and make a video about her past employment there. He thinks this is a really smart recruitment marketing tactic.  19:30 - JLee talks about an influencer Marriott uses that makes content about being a foster mom of teenage girls.  22:30 - Tim praises TikTok Resumes for being innovative unlike many other social platforms but is upset that their job description language is the same traditional, boring descriptions from the past.  27:00 - Tim thinks that smaller brands can have more impact using TikTok for hiring since the bigger brands have more risk involved.  31:30 - JLee asks the crew what they would say if their kids asked if they should do a TIkTok resume. Tim says that if a brand is on TikTok resumes, they should know what they're getting themselves into. ---------------Jessica Lee, Kris Dunn and Tim Sackett Kinetix HRU Tech Jessica Lee on LinkedIn Tim Sackett on Linkedin Kris Dunn on LinkedIn The Tim Sackett Project The HR Capitalist Fistful of Talent Boss Leadership Training Series
