The Indiana Hoosiers basketball team saw the last big missing piece of its non-conference schedule filled on Tuesday with the report of the team traveling to Xavier for the Gavitt Games. Knowing that, the vast majority of IU's schedule for next season can be pieced together. On today's episode of Locked on Hoosiers, Jacob Rude (@JacobRude) reacts to the report of the Hoosiers traveling to meet the Xavier Musketeers next season. It's a different team that the Hoosiers have not played in recent seasons and only historically have played a small handful of times. Having their opponent for the Gavitt Games now, it's easy to piece together what IU's schedule will look like, including a much tougher non-conference slate this season. The increased strength of that non-conference schedule also serves as the latest reminder that Indiana is better off having gotten out of the Crossroads Classic. The show wraps by previewing NBA free agency with a number of former Hoosiers set to enter it on Thursday. Thomas Bryant, Victor Oladipo and Cody Zeller all are unrestricted free agents while Juwan Morgan could enter free agency if the Celtics turn down his player option. (00:00 – 26:45) – Jimmy Cook opens the show as the guest host and immediately begins to hype up the Pacers 6th pick in the NBA Draft, Bennedict Mathurin. Jimmy then goes on to talk about other draft picks and where they fell in the first round. Discussion turns to whether or not Malcom Brogdon is tradeable right now in his career and at this point in the season. (26:46 – 41:02) – 93.1 WIBC's Jason Hammer joins the show to talk about the Pacers draft. Jason discusses how he feels as though things are looking a bit too good and that something must go wrong eventually due to his superstitions. Jimmy and Hammer then talk about how this roster isn't complete yet and to expect at least a Myles Turner or Malcom Brogdon trade before the season begins. Then as is always the case when Hammer joins the show there was a little bit of NBA draft bet talk to close out the segment. (41:03 – 47:52) – Draft talk continues as Jimmy takes calls regarding the Pacers first round selection in Bennedict Mathurin. (47:53 – 1:12:38) Former NBA Front Office Executive Dan Purcell joins the show to talk about the overall reaction to the NBA Draft. Jimmy asks Purcell if he believes Mathurin will be seen as one of, if not the best, player in this draft. Purcell then credits the Detroit Piston's for managing to finesse Jaden Ivey at the fifth pick in the draft and the chances the New York Knicks made at trying to trade for him during the draft. Jimmy then gets Purcell's take on Brogdon's ability to be traded. (1:12:39 – 1:26:21) – Tony East of Forbes and the “Locked On Pacers Podcast” joins the show to provide a national perspective on yesterday's NBA Draft. East gives his take on what Bennedict Mathurin can provide to the Pacers this season and also touches on the Pacers trading up to acquire Kendall Brown from the Minnesota Timberwolves. Jimmy asks if there were any surprises in how the draft board panned out especially given the lack of trades early on. (1:26:22 – 1:36:09) – Hour three closes out with more on Jimmy's take about the market for Malcom Brogdon. He offers takes on either recruiting younger stars or opening up cap space and earning more draft options going forward. (1:36:10 – 1:58:04) – The Fan morning show host Kevin Bowen of “Kevin & Query” joined the show and discussed his takes on the NBA Draft last night. He shares excitement in the drafting of Bennedict Mathurin, though not on the same level as Jimmy. Then shares his excitement in the Pacers other draft picks in Andrew Nemhard and Kendall Brown. (1:58:05 – 2:09:48) – Jimmy begins by addressing some of the concerns over not attempting to trade up in the draft. He discusses how this era of the Pacers is breaking away from the Paul George and Victor Oladipo motivations and finding a new player to put as the face of your franchise. (2:09:49 – 2:19:55) – Jimmy gives his closing thoughts on the Pacers draft and then throws it to himself for the plays of the day. Jimmy is taking the Yankees over the Astros, the Red Sox money line over the Guardians. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Former Indiana Hoosiers basketball standout Victor Oladipo had a strong postseason run with the Miami Heat on their way to the Eastern Conference Finals. Oladipo stepped up with injuries impacting the team during their playoff run and came up big in various moments throughout and primed himself for an intriguing offseason. On today's episode of Locked on Hoosiers, Jacob Rude (@JacobRude) is joined by one of the hosts of Locked on Heat in Wes Goldberg (@wcgoldberg) to talk about Oladipo's interesting last two seasons in South Beach. Most recently, Oladipo stepped up in the playoffs when the Heat needed him most, helping them earn series wins over the Hawks and Sixers. The 15 games Oladipo played in the playoffs were the culmination of a waiting game that took the better part of two seasons for both he and the Heat. An injury early on in his first season sidelined through the near entirety of the 2021-22 season. After waiting it out, Oladipo eventually was turned to this postseason when injuries to Kyle Lowry and Tyler Herro left head coach Erik Spoelstra in search of answers. After his strong postseason, Oladipo heads into free agency with lots of uncertainty. While it's likely he would envision a role as a starter once again, Miami can offer him more money and potentially a consistent role as a sixth man that could be enticing as well. Ahead of Game One of the Eastern Conference Finals, Miami Guard, Victor Oladipo, joins The Pivot to talk about his storied comeback from injury and his journey that landed him on the Miami Heat. From #2 Draft Pick to five different teams to an injury that most thought he may never play again...Oladipo beat the odds to work his way back into the lineup in time for Miami to be heating up in the playoffs.  Victor explains the pain and frustrations behind his quad injury and the recovery process mentally and physically sharing the struggles but accepting the challenge to be better everyday. Fred shares his own challenges on rebounding from injuries and the emotions that come with it while Ryan discusses some specifics about the illness when he was on the Steelers to recovering and playing a year later in the Super Bowl.  The guys ask about the locker room and who the leaders are while wondering what playing with Jimmy Butler is like and the mindset the Heat have heading into the finals. Oladipo explains what makes the team so special is that they don't care about opinions of others and embrace being the underdog. When everyone counts us out, we just focus on winning and the leadership of Butler is the glue to the team right now. Ryan talks through the match up against the Celtics and the similarities the teams share but Oladipo recognizes it's going to be a fight but that his team is prepared for the fight. Channing asks about the rumors of Vic turning down 45million from Houston and Vic sets the record straight about those comments and then goes on to say how he is thankful for all the obstacles because they have landed him where he belongs now.  Closing out the show, Channing mentions to Oladipo how his wife is a big fan of Oladipo's music and asks if singing is his way of picking up girls.
