Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem was marked by stark contrasts. He used parabolic language of sheep and goats in contrast to teach on His return to the city that is still to come as well. Explore how these contrasts bring clarity in Pastor Kevin's message: SHEEP, GOATS, DONKEYS, AND COATS.
Listen for truths from scripture including answers to questions like: Who will judge the World? Does a place of eternal fire exit? What does Sheep & Goats have to do with any of this?

Will there be a Judgement Day when we die? Will all the wrongs be made right? Will everything that was done in the darkness be brought into the light? There is a primal impulse within all of us for people to get what they deserve. But what about the litany of ways we have contributed to the heartbreak around us? Could the desire for judgement actually be a desire for justice? Could our understanding of justice be limited to a punitive understanding? To get at this we obviously need to talk about sheep and goats first.

This is the first time in the whole book of Hebrews that Jesus is referred to as “the Great Shepherd” (Hebrews 13:20). As the author finishes his letter, he wants to assure his hearers that they are in good hands. Christ will lead us. Christ will protect us. And most importantly, Christ has promised to never lose us.

After describing describing how the burnt offering of the bull is to be done, God told Moses to also inform the Israelites how to offer sheep, goats and birds. It is very clear that all of them are equally pleasing aroma to God, because it is not about the animal being burned, but about the heart of the person making the sacrifice. If your heart is to give your best to God, it doesn't matter if it is a bull or a pigeon, it is acting out of faith that is pleasing to God. Unlike the bull, they were to offer the sheep and the goats on the north side of the altar, but they were to slaughter it and sacrifice it in a very similar way. The bird was to be sacrificed differently. The head was to be twisted to kill it and its crop -a place for pre-digestion in the neck of the bird- was to be torn out. The blood was put at the base of the altar, while the crop and the feathers of the bird were to be put on the east side -toward the entrance to the courtyard- of the tabernacle. The bird was then to be burned as a sweet aroma to the Lord. Unlike the bulls, sheep and goats, it is not the offeror that kills the bird, it is the priest.

The bleating and bells of some 1,200 sheep and 200 goats took over downtown Madrid on the morning of October 23 as part of a festival that recreates the pastoral practice of moving livestock to new grazing grounds. Shepherds herded the animals through the paved streets of the Spanish capital while reenacting what their ancestors did for centuries: move flocks from cool highlands in the summer to lowland winter pastures. Madrid, Spain's lively capital city, has always been part of the 125,000-kilometer (78,000-mile) grid of farming paths that cover the Iberian Peninsula. As part of the Transhumance Festival, organizers make a symbolic payment for the right to use the drovers' route that crosses the capital. The payment presented at Madrid's city hall in medieval Spain's currency consists of 50 maravedis, as stated in an agreement between the city and shepherds that dates back to 1418. The closeness of the animals delighted the urban dwellers who gathered to watch the unfamiliar ritual. Children tried to touch the soft merino wool of the locally bred sheep. Madrid has held the festival since 1994, and towns and smaller cities in Italy, France and California hold similar events. In Spain, modern farming methods have reduced practicing transhumance - the seasonal movement of livestock - to a small group of farmers that keep the tradition alive through associations such as Concejo de la Mesta, who are responsible for the Transhumance Festival in Madrid. They promote transhumance for advantages such as sustainability, cultural value and environmental protection since areas walked by sheep are less prone to wildfires. According to the Transhumance and Nature Association, 52 families carry out the practice in Spain. This article was provided by The Associated Press.

This is our final episode of the 7th season... which has been focusing on The Last Days. We have been digging into the Olivet Discourse in Matthew chapters 24 and 25. In this final parable, Jesus reveals the upcoming Judgment of the Sheep and Goats. At first glance it looks like the sheep are saved by their good works and the goats are cursed because they failed to do good works. Does this passage teach salvation by good works? That seems contradictory to all of the rest of Scripture. Join us as we investigate the true meaning of this parable and as we review the good news of the gospel.
Jesus reveals the upcoming Judgment of the Sheep and Goats. What? Are animals going to be judged? No. This is a parable in which people are likened to either sheep or goats. The sheep will be commended. The goats will be condemned. It is critical that we understand the timing of this judgment. In order to set the stage for this judgment, I am asking you to use your imagination and to place yourself in the future... experiencing the things Jesus predicts will happen. The most critical question for you to ask is this: Will I be left behind when the rapture takes place? The most important thing for you to know is this: God is offering eternal life as a free gift to all who place their faith in Jesus Christ... to all who believe Jesus died in their place and paid for their sins and was buried and then rose from the dead.
The parable of the sheep and the goats helps provide clarity on what it looks like to be a follower of Jesus and challenges us to love more boldly - not because we have to, but because we can.
In this week's episode, we start talking about The Good Shepard. In Matthew 25, Jesus tells us that we will be sifted in the final judgment between sheep and goats. Pastor Seth Kurtz Matthew 25:31-46 Inheriting the Kingdom of God is an already and not yet event. Christ followers have not yet gotten to step into our inheritance that is the perfect Kingdom of God where we will spend eternity with Jesus, but we have inherited the mission that Jesus came to establish his Kingdom. We are called to impact that world with God's wisdom and his knowledge of good and bad.

What are the scriptural & real world differences between Sheep & Goats? Did you know the Passover Lamb could be a Passover Goat? Who did Y'shua Jesus come to save? Are we all goats before we become sheep? A look as scripture you may not have considered before. Line upon Line, Precept Upon Precept, Here a Little, There a Little. When taken all together we can understand prophecy much more clearly.

Alistair reflects on Ezekiel 34:11-16, 20-24 and Matthew 25:31-46 as part of KNEC Church Online on 22 November 2020. There are some things we can safely take from this story of the sheep and goats: The separation of sheep and goats takes place when the Son of Man comes in glory with the angels - End time? Post calvary? Until then, both sheep and goats live together. In the Middle East, then and now, it’s not so easy to tell the difference between a sheep and a goat but the shepherd knows. The story teaches that the sheep on the right are commended by the King on the Throne for serving Christ through their care of the hungry, thirsty, stranger, naked, sick or imprisoned whereas the goats on the left are condemned for failing to do so. Barbara Brown-Taylor wrote that, “by entering into the experience of the cross, God took the man-made wreckage of the world inside himself and laboured with it - a long labour, almost three days - and he did not let go of it until he could transform it and return it to us as life. That is the power of a suffering God, not to prevent pain but to redeem it, by going through it with us”. (Barbara Brown-Taylor, God in Pain (1998). “To live our lives based on the principles of a love ethic (showing care, respect, knowledge, integrity, and the will to cooperate), we have to be courageous. Learning how to face our fears is one way we embrace love. Our fear may not go away, but it will not stand in the way.” (bell hooks) O God, you reign in Christ Let your kingdom come And your will be done On earth as in heaven. As you have found us Move us with your compassion To find you in the other.

Sheep, Goats, and Brothers by Emmaus Bible College
11/22/2020 - Sheep, Goats, and the King (The Rev. Trent Moore) by Our Saviour
You can tell that their love is genuine because they do something about it. They don't just talk about helping the under-resourced, they get involved, they sacrifice, they meet the need when they can. That’s always the test of reality, the hallmark of authenticity – 'does it change people?'
Some interpretations of the Parable of the Sheep and the Goats (Matthew 25: 31-46) are downright terrifying. It seems to condemn the “goats” – “accursed” nations – to eternal damnation. Terrible fear-based religious violence and persecution has come from the idea of eternal hell. So where’s the “good news?”Translations and context make all the difference. The judgment in this parable is for the nations, not individuals, although individuals do shape the character of the nations in which they live. And the word translated as “eternal” is better translated as a “time” or “age.”You can reconcile faith in universal reconciliation with this parable, while still holding onto the infinite urgency and dire warning within it. Ultimately, the way we collectively and individually treat the most vulnerable will have lasting consequences. Adam and Lindsey explore further.

What about heaven, hell and is God really that angry? In Matthew 25, Jesus tells a series of stories in response to a question posed by the disciples. Their question was essentially, "Hey Jesus... when is the 'end' coming?" I'm not sure they meant what we mean today by that question but regardless, Jesus answers with a bunch of stories. He describes bridesmaids waiting with lamps, servants being given money and sheep and goats being separated by the King. If they were looking for a straight, simple, easy answer well...they didn't get it. Instead they got a series of short image rich stories each highlighting different aspects of Jesus' answer. The piece we'll be exploring today is the section about God separating the sheep and goats (aka people) and then sending some to what we might call heaven and others to hell (Jesus uses neither of those terms). The problem for many with these words is this: How can a good loving God knowingly send people to eternal suffering? Is that God? Is that our God? Images of God gleefully smiting sinners is an image that has caused many problems and much pain throughout history and yet, we have scriptures like these which seem to say, "Yeah, it isn't pretty, but that is what God is going to do." So what do we do with this? Is God really this angry king eager to dish out divine torment or could there be more to this story than meets the eye? We're so glad you're here today to help us wrestle with this last scripture in our Vice Verses series. We hope your time here draws you closer to God and closer to others for the glory of God and the sake of the world.

Is there more to Christianity than church services and Bible studies? Do you feel like God is stirring something in your heart, but you can't quite figure out what to do?
This sermon comes from Matthew 25. Jesus separates the sheep from the goats in the final judgment. But what gets you in? It may be as surprising for us as it would have been for those listening.
