By Adam Turteltaub Exit interviews can be terrific sources of information for compliance teams, but how do you make the most of them? And do you need to be a part of all of them? That can be a very tough task in a large enterprise. Shemekia Alexander, Director, Corporate Responsibility Officer of Mercy Health recommends focusing on live interviews with key individuals that are most likely to have insights into potential compliance issues. In her case, that includes compliance and legal personnel, the executive suite, revenue cycle staff and providers. To get people to feel comfortable talking, she reaches out in advance to introduce herself and make the person comfortable with the process. Typically, she sends an email saying who she is, the purpose of the meeting and that it will be confidential. She also recommends that the departing employee, if the conversation will be via Zoom or a phone call, get to a place where they do not have to worry about being overheard. During the interview she begins by explaining what she means by compliance since some are confused about what exactly compliance encompasses. She then asks several standard questions including: Are you aware of any compliance concerns that should be addressed? How you raised any compliance-related issues previously that have not been addressed? Have you seen any associates engage in conduct that may be illegal or unethical? How would you describe the organization's compliance culture? Is there anything else you would like to discuss? The last, very broad questions, can be particularly helpful, opening the door for conversation. As important as what the employees says can be how they are acting in the conversation. She advises paying attention to their behavior: are they hesitant, disgruntled, scared, aggressive? For those who are not interviewed face to face there are questions in an optional survey that HR provides to departing employees. Any issues raised there are forwarded to compliance. It's all a part of a team approach, and cultivating the team's support is essential for success. Listen in to learn more about how to turn an employee exit into a compliance opportunity.

His brand new album is Fire It Up. Lisa also highlights Shemekia Copeland - the daughter of the great blues guitarist/singer Johnny Copeland. She just received the prestigious UK Blues Award for International Blues Artist of the Year. Shemekia's latest project is titled, Uncivil War. The Blues thrive on the Coool CAT!!
Shemekia Copeland returns to eTown for her second visit, in this (first time aired!) new eTown episode. As an award-winning vocalist (daughter of famous jazzer Johnny Copeland), Shemekia started recording in 1998 at the age of 18 and is recognized as one of the most talented artists in today's blues and roots scene. Also joining us is Kelsey Waldon, a gifted and seasoned American country singer and songwriter. And Catherine Coleman Flowers, a recent MacArthur Fellow, is the author of a new book called "Waste: One Woman's Fight Against America's Dirty Secret." She'll speak with Nick about her efforts to bring attention to failing water and waste sanitation infrastructure in rural areas, perpetuating health problems and economic injustice
Escuchamos a Jeremy Ivey con su excelente Things Could Get Much Worse y encontramos a Mike Plume dispuesto a endulzar tu vida con canciones memorables. - Jeremy Ivey, Things Could Get Much Worse- Mike Plume, I'm Your Huckleberry - Mike Plume, Summers Around Here (Don't Last Forever)- Yo La Tengo, Wasn't Born To Follow - Tim Heidecker, Fear Of Death- Eddie Van Halen, Eruption/Spanish Fly (Live, 1995, Toronto).- Mike Plume, That's What I'm Talking About- Eddie Van Halen, Cathedral

She is an outstanding artist who attributes her success to the HCC studio art faculty. Here is her story. “HCC rebuilt me and taught me how to think and allowed me to do that through my art.” Shemekia Dickerson — Studio Art, Houston Community College

Episode 70: Shemekia Copeland was born to sing, raised by blues royalty. Her dad, Johnny Clyde Copeland, took his Louisiana and Texas roots to the New York City area where he based a career that landed him a Grammy award and a spot in the Blues Hall of Fame. Shemekia sang all her life and by 18 she was on record and on the minds of everyone looking at the next generation of the blues. And she's won a raft of awards in her genre. Thing is though, she's a wide ranging artist who wants to see the blues evolve and expand, so in the past few years, she and Americana have found one another in a big way. She came to Nashville to make her last two albums, calling on Will Kimbrough as a guitar player and writer on both and producer on her latest, America's Child. That album, released in September, is a pointed political and humanistic statement that features guest turns by Mary Gauthier, John Prine, and Emmylou Harris. Her showcase was one of the most anticipated at AmericanaFest 2018. Also, Austin's Band of Heathens addresses their latest politically charged release, a song-by-song cover of the 1972 Ray Charles album A Message From The People.
Shemekia Copeland is the Grammy-nominated reigning Queen of Chicago Blues who released her 8th studio effort on Alligator records, ‘America’s Child.’ The album was produced by Will Kimbrough and features all-stars like John Prine, Emmy Lou Harris and Steve Cropper. Shemekia carries on the legacy of her family name in the blues made famous by her legendary father, Johnny Copeland. She’s won numerous Blues music awards.
Shemekia Copeland is a three time Grammy-nominated blues singer on the Alligator Records label. Shemekia started singing professionally with her father the legendary Texas guitarist, Johnny Copeland, at the age of 16. Her seventh solo album, Outskirts of Love has topped all of the blues charts, nominated for a Grammy-Award for Best Blues Album and features Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top), Robert Randolph and Alvin Youngblood Hart. In 2012 she performed for the U.S. President Barrack Obama at the White House. Her band regularly tours alongside of the Robert Cray Band. At the 2011 Chicago Blues Festival, the City of Chicago and the State of Illinois officially declared her to be “The New Queen of the Blues” and presented her a crown by Koko Taylor’s daughter, Cookie Taylor.
WANDA JACKSON is widely known and respected as "The Queen of Rockabilly." Jackson is credited with being the first woman to ever record a rock and roll song-"Let's Have a Party" in 1958. In 2009, Jackson was inducted into the "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" and, in 2010, was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Americana Music Awards. Wanda returns to the WoodSongs Stage to celebrate the release of her 31st studio album 'Unfinished Business' produced by Justin Townes Earle on Sugar Hill Records. SHEMEKIA COPELAND has evolved from teenage upstart to one of the most prominent voices in the blues. She's currently the most feted woman in the blues world and actually had a coronation where she was crowned and declared "Queen of the Blues" at the Chicago Blues Festival in 2011. Shemekia earned her crown with a series of high-quality recordings and an unrelenting tour schedule including a memorable performance at the White House in front of an audience that included the President of the United States, sharing the bill with Buddy Guy, Mick Jagger, Jeff Beck, B.B. King and other greats. Her latest is "33 1/3" on Telarc International.
