GDP Script/ Top Stories for February 18th Publish Date: February 18th From The BG AD Group Studio, Welcome to the Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast. Today is Tuesday, February 18th and Happy Birthday to John Travolta ***02.18.25 - BIRTHDAY – JOHN TRAVOLTA*** I’m Keith Ippolito and here are your top stories presented by KIA Mall of Georgia Mulberry looking to annex commercial properties on city's outskirts Andrew Young reflects on lessons from a life of service and partnerships Georgia Attorney General under fire over lawsuit targeting federal disability protections statute All of this and more is coming up on the Gwinnett Daily Post podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen daily and subscribe! Break 1: Kia MOG (07.14.22 KIA MOG) STORY 1: Mulberry looking to annex commercial properties on city's outskirts Mulberry, Gwinnett County's newest city, is pursuing legislation to annex over 100 mostly commercial land parcels, aiming for zoning control over key corridors like Hamilton Mill and Braselton Highway. Unlike Lawrenceville's residential-focused annexation plan, Mulberry's proposal, led by Mayor Michael Coker and State Sen. Clint Dixon, targets commercial centers like the Walmart at Hamilton Mill and Sardis Church Roads. The annexation, outlined in Senate Bill 139, won’t significantly impact Mulberry’s population and doesn’t require a referendum, focusing instead on managing future development and zoning. STORY 2: Andrew Young reflects on lessons from a life of service and partnerships Andrew Young, at 92, continues to inspire as a Civil Rights leader, former Atlanta mayor, and U.N. ambassador. His life and Atlanta’s growth are celebrated in an exhibit at the Lawrenceville Arts Center through March 31. During a fireside chat, Young shared stories of regional cooperation, advice from his father—“Don’t get mad, get smart”—and his resilience during a 1964 Civil Rights march attack. Reflecting on today’s polarized politics, he emphasized patience, collaboration, and focusing on helping others as keys to progress and democracy. STORY 3: Georgia Attorney General under fire over lawsuit targeting federal disability protections statute Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr faces criticism from lawmakers and disability advocates over a lawsuit targeting Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, which protects individuals with disabilities from discrimination. Carr’s office claims the lawsuit only challenges a Biden-era rule adding "gender dysphoria" as a protected disability, but critics argue it seeks to declare Section 504 unconstitutional, jeopardizing broader protections. Families fear this could lead to attacks on other laws like IDEA, which supports students with disabilities. Advocates stress the importance of accommodations for education and independence, urging Carr to withdraw from the lawsuit to protect these vital protections. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.874.3200 for more info. We’ll be right back Break 2: RINGLING BROS_FINAL STORY 4: Monkey Wrench Brewing raising money on GoFundMe to keep doors open Monkey Wrench Brewing in Suwanee is seeking to raise $40,000–$45,000 through a GoFundMe campaign to address financial challenges caused by equipment repairs, expansion costs, and inflation. Despite struggles, the brewery has thrived in event hosting and community support, celebrating its 5th anniversary and securing a new distributor. Co-owner Wayne Baxter remains optimistic, citing recent successes and plans to expand into distilled spirits once equipment is repaired. Alongside fundraising, Baxter is seeking new investors to help cover back debt and ensure the brewery’s future. STORY 5: Gwinnett's Overstory Rooftop Bar To Host Exclusive Código Tequila Dinner Overstory Rooftop Bar at the Westin Atlanta Gwinnett will host a special four-course dinner paired with Código 1530 Tequila on Thursday, Feb. 27, at 6 p.m. The event features Amazonian-inspired dishes like Fosforera seafood soup, Chica Morada Short Ribs, and Chocolate Dreams Cake, designed to complement the tequila’s flavors. With panoramic views of the Gas South District, tickets are $210 per person and available on Eventbrite. Overstory promises an unforgettable evening blending fine dining and premium tequila. Job 26-27: The Outskirts of Go

Thy Strong Word from KFUO Radio

Job has had enough of his friends' empty words. In Job 26, he shifts his focus from their bad theology to the majesty of God, describing His power over creation in a speech that reminds us how little we truly understand of His ways. Then, in Job 27, Job boldly declares that he will not deny his integrity, refusing to accept their claim that his suffering proves his guilt. Is Job being defiant, or is this a statement of unwavering faith? And what does it mean to trust in God's righteousness when everything seems lost?  The Rev. Dr. Michael Morehouse, pastor of Catalina Lutheran Church in Tucson, AZ, joins the Rev. Dr. Phil Booe to study Job 26-27.  Why do the righteous suffer? That's the burning question at the heart of the book of Job—one of the most profound and challenging books in all of Scripture. From a Lutheran perspective, Job's story isn't just about a man enduring unimaginable hardship; it's about wrestling with God's will, grappling with well-meaning but misguided advice, and ultimately finding comfort in God's grace rather than human understanding. As Job's friends offer simplistic answers, Job demands the truth, and God's response reminds us of His infinite wisdom and mercy. Through it all, we see glimpses of Christ—the truly innocent sufferer—who redeems our pain and points us to the cross, where suffering meets salvation. Join us as we journey through Job, confronting tough questions about faith, suffering, and God's mysterious ways with hope grounded in Christ alone.  Thy Strong Word, hosted by Rev. Dr. Phil Booe, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church of Luverne, MN, reveals the light of our salvation in Christ through study of God's Word, breaking our darkness with His redeeming light. Each weekday, two pastors fix our eyes on Jesus by considering Holy Scripture, verse by verse, in order to be strengthened in the Word and be equipped to faithfully serve in our daily vocations. Meanwhile the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says an uprising of militias in the south of the country has forced President Assad's forces to withdraw from Daraa. In Romania, the constitutional court has annulled the first round of the Presidential elections, which saw an outsider claim the most votes amid allegations of a foreign-backed influence campaign. And as France prepares to reopen a restored Notre Dame cathedral, we hear some of the music that has resonated within its walls throughout its more than 800-year history.

Craig Campbell joins us this week on Stories Behind the Songs!  Like most of our guests, Craig grew up in a musical family, but he started his career as a correctional officer. He knew music was his passion so he spent a lot of his time playing in bars and bands on Broadway. It's a good thing he did because he was discovered while playing “The Stage” on Broadway and landed his very first record deal. He shares his journey from performing there to writing his debut single, "Family Man," while starting his own family, and how early hits like "Family Man" and "Fish" shaped his career. He also tells the story of how he wrote "Outskirts of Heaven" with Dave Turnbull in just two hours.  Craig's music has touched many lives, and today he's re-releasing some of his greatest hits in a new project titled “Almost Greatest Hits,” featuring re-records and a few new songs. We also discuss his experience writing for other artists, like Garth Brooks and Trace Adkins. This week - you'll get to hear Craig play an unreleased track, discuss the upcoming projects and writes he is working on, and the next steps in his entrepreneurial journey with his restaurant, Grindstone Cowboy. Sam Hunt is a humble man. At least that's how he comes off in every conversation I've had with him. Today, was no different. The man behind 10 #1 hits was excited to talk about his kids; he's now in the 2 under 2 club. He's been releasing singles, as of late and no album for them, as the kids have kept him busy. But he did share that he'd like to focus on an album when the touring slows down.  Listen as we talk about the tour, which has no Boston dates as of yet. We talk about the new song "Outskirts," the babies, the snow in Nashville and play a round of "Good Sam Hunting" - so we can get to know the platinum-selling artist better. Find out what he likes to hunt, what his favorite food is and more!

He played piano at his mother's Baptist church from the age of 10 until he was 18. He first heard the sounds of gospel music before listening to Travis Tritt, who was one of the reasons why he immediately fell in love with country music. When he was 15, he formed a band called Out of the Blue and began playing the bar circuit, learning how to put together a performance and capture an audience. Craig moved to Nashville, Tennessee, in 2002 in hopes of pursuing his musical career. He took on several musician jobs and began writing his songs and demos. Fellow Georgian Luke Bryan suggested Campbell try his hand at writing his own songs, and in time he mastered the craft, honing his original material at gigs. He met another singer, Mindy Ellis, fell in love, and the pair married; he also began playing piano in her band, which in turn led to a touring stint with Tracy Byrd. Keith Stegall caught one of Campbell's performances at The Stage in 2008, and the young singer was soon signed to Bigger Picture. Starting in 2010, “Family Man” and “Outta My Head” both cracked the Top 15 on Billboard's Country Airplay chart, while others like the hook-in-cheek “Fish” snagged more than 10 million on-demand streams. “Keep Them Kisses Comin'” became a bona fide Top 10 hit, while “Outskirts of Heaven” showed an artist sensitive enough to share his soul and courageous enough to stand on conviction. The uplifting critical smash has been praised by Rolling Stone, Taste of Country, and more as a spiritual high-water mark. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/craigcampbelltv/www.GaryScottThomas.com
