Brand is everything! Whether in your personal brand or your business brand, defining yourself to your audience is vital. You have to clarify who you are and how you want to be viewed, along with identifying your strengths and weaknesses. We are diving deep in today’s show in learning why your brand is a reflection of you. Thalia Toha is a brand and business strategist for busy entrepreneurs looking to more strategically manage their business and grow their brand. Thalia is currently launching her website, where she shares practical techniques for entrepreneurs looking to get their brand strategically positioned without selling their souls to the expectations of social media. Unlike most brand experts, Thalia does not believe that social media is the be-all and end-all. In her free time, she loves exploring new food trends. Becoming a brand expert What are the brands that stand out in your mind? We can all think of certain brands that have a catchy logo, well-known tagline, or an unforgettable spokesperson. Thalia explains that her path to becoming a brand expert happened organically. Through her work in construction, architecture, and real estate, she was introduced to many national brands. She established relationships with executives and gained momentum through one-on-one work on their business strategy. She says that it’s the people attached to the brand names that make the difference because the brand is a reflection of the person behind the brand. TWEET: “Honesty is a very important currency.” #chasingdreams Defining yourself How would you define yourself? The question isn’t an easy one to answer, but it’s the foundation of Thalia’s work as a brand expert. She describes the three-step process she uses with her clients. The first step is flash-lighting, which means you look to those who know you and see you regularly. Get feedback and information about who you are and what you need to do. The second step is highlighting, in which you look at the feedback received and highlight the aspects of yourself that you most want to display. Thalia says we shouldn’t overlook highlighting our weaknesses because they are the things that make us unique and different. The third step is spotlighting, in which we focus on others, what we have to offer them, and how we can help them be better. TWEET: Just because you CAN do all things doesn’t mean you SHOULD do all things. #chasingdreams When a weakness isn’t a weakness Do you view your weaknesses in a negative light? Thalia says you have to identify and know your weaknesses, but that you shouldn't keep them hidden or be embarrassed about them. A weakness is only a matter of perspective. What you might view as a weakness in yourself might be something that others see in you as a strength.  TWEET: ”Just start. Don’t wait until things are perfect. Movement creates momentum.” #chasingdreams Guest Recommendation: ONE action for a dream chaser to take--”Just start. Don’t wait until things are perfect. Movement creates momentum.” OUTLINE OF THIS EPISODE: [1:46] Let’s get to know Thalia [9:03] The path to becoming a brand expert [15:30] How to define yourself and your brand [20:35] The skewed perspective of ourselves [23:32] The significance of “spotlighting” [26:16] Don’t be a “jack-of-all-trades” [28:05] The clear WHY (not HOW or WHAT) [30:38] The evolution of who you are [32:20] Know your weaknesses [35:32] Be what no one else is [38:55] The importance of honesty [42:05] How to show the other side [44:03] Define yourself [47:07] ONE action for a dream chaser RESOURCES MENTIONED: Thalia on Facebook Thalia on Instagram www.youreachrevolution.com Email Thalia for your free gift, the in-depth guide to her Three-Step Technique:  support@youreachrevolution.com    Watch the episode on YouTube The Golden Circle Presentation by Simon Sinek: www.simonsinek.com   TWEETS YOU CAN USE:  TWEET: With a brand, business, or as an individual, you can’t be a “jack-of-all-trades.” #chasingdreams TWEET: “In branding, if you try to do everything, then you’re not doing anything.” #chasingdreams TWEET: The brand is a reflection of the people behind it. #chasingdreams TWEET: The viewpoint we have of ourselves is skewed and limited.

Have you ever thought, “There's gotta be more to life than this.” There's gotta be more to life than just working and getting that next paycheck. YOU can change your fate. YOU decide what to do. Open yourself up to all the amazing possibilities because without knowing and understanding these possibilities, you can't act on them. When you do not act, you stay stuck where you are, always wondering what “more” feels like. Today's guest is Flip Your Life community member, Julie Halitzka. Hailing from Louisville, Kentucky, Julie loves singing and plays a number of musical instruments. She has worked with youth in various roles as a worship leader, play & music teacher, and youth counselor for over 10 years. She decided to take her business online to change and improve their current financial circumstances. Julie created an early childhood music curriculum (for children ages 0-6) called Rockin' Rhythms Music. After starting her website, she had the original intent of marketing this curriculum to teachers. This proved to be a bit of an adjustment from her job as a music teacher, where she is mainly marketing to parents. Not having a well-established email list yet, Julie struggles with the question what a lot of online entrepreneurs have with their digital product -- “Will people buy this?” -- and the fear of not finding the right people to sell to. Join us today as we help Julie reframe her avatar, grow and build her email list. Her actual post title says, "Champagne Moment." Elle says, "It's so great to log in and see so many of you doing well."  She's talking about our Success Forum. "Typically when I'm working on a major project, I go into hiding.  Well, I'm out of the cave, and I wanted to share my champagne moment with you. For the past six months, I had been planning, creating and building my membership site.  Today, I finished the course that is a huge selling point in my membership site. The course consists of five modules with three to five lessons in each module. What a relief and an accomplishment.  Along with a major course, I filmed videos for a video library, created and designed worksheets, and I've recruited four influencers to be interviewed as guests on a recorded Q&A for members. My launch date is coming up soon.  I have 20 people signed up for Beta memberships at a discounted rate." Elle's website: http://www.thenurseconsultantnetwork.com Man, that is an awesome success story that not only has she pre-sold and got all these members and Beta people signed up, but she's done with her course.  That's a huge load off your back when you create something that's evergreen that you can sell for years.

Phillip Lanos is a Los Angeles native. Hyperactive and often pensive, this actor, singer, songwriter, and podcast producer is best experienced in person. Due to his half-Mexican, half-French descent, he’s had opportunities to appear on international Latino TV channels like Telemundo for an American Idol spin-off show named “Yo Soy El Artista.” Phillip has also appeared on MTV’s “Copycat,” which was MTV’s attempt at singing competitions. In the podcasting world, Phillip has worked on over 300 episodes with entrepreneurial clients and journalism greats like Cal Fussman and Martin Perlich, and YouTube influencers like Roger Burnley. Finding a passion. What would you give up to pursue your passion? Phillip has dreamed of an acting and singing career, taken intentional steps and moved across the country to pursue those dreams. When he landed in NYC, he secured a great job with a well-known marketing agency, even though he felt terribly unqualified. He found a mentor, worked hard for success, and was soon offered a great position with a big salary. He turned it down. Why? He didn’t want to “settle” without at least trying something in which he could be his own boss. He walked away from those opportunities to truly pursue his passion. TWEET: I’m tired of doing permanent things with temporary people. @philliplanos Regrouping in a new direction Have you ever had to start over, refocus, and redirect your efforts? Phillip knows what that’s all about. He moved in a new direction by leaving NYC and moving back to Los Angeles. He had to regroup in order to plan for his success. There were certain boxes he wanted to “check” in his life so each plan and strategy had to be tested and measured. He wasn’t looking for one-dimensional success. He has since realized that you can have failure AND success at the same time in different areas of your life. It all comes down to what you’re willing to sacrifice for your dreams. TWEET: #Life won’t let me #fail as long as I put in the #work. @philliplanos Being vulnerable What is your deepest insecurity? For Phillip, it’s the “I’m not good enough” voice. You may think that’s unusual for an actor, but it’s really quite common. Phillip expresses this vulnerability in over-achieving or under-achieving, all in a quest to find balance. Phillip grew up as one of 18 siblings, with parents who weren’t a big part of his life. HIs father was diagnosed with ALS when Phillip was only 8, so he has few memories of good times with his father. Because of his family background, Phillip has keenly felt the need to make his life count. For this reason, he is very intentional about crafting his plan for success. TWEET: My deepest insecurity is that I’m not good enough. @philliplanos Guest Recommendation: ONE action for a dream chaser to take--”Do something real and get instant feedback. Take advantage of those lightning strikes that are full of positivity, faith, hope, and potential.” OUTLINE OF THIS EPISODE: [2:40] How we met at Podcast Movement in California [6:18] Phillip’s passion in chasing the dream [8:32] Why he chose to go to NYC [12:25] When you “talk” yourself into a dream [14:10] Regrouping to find success [16:56] The holistic focus [19:46] Staying active in many areas [24:52] Being “not good enough” [28:16] Talking yourself into a dream in the middle of dark moments [35:10] Being back home [38:01] Phillip’s ONE action for a dream chaser RESOURCES MENTIONED IN THE EPISODE: Philip’s Website Philip on Instagram Philip on Twitter TWEETS YOU CAN USE: TWEET: You’ve got to take a #loss sometimes to know what a #win looks like. @philliplanos TWEET: Just because you thoroughly enjoy something doesn’t mean you’re passionate about it. @philliplanos TWEET: Metaphorically and symbolically, I’ve come back to zero. @philliplanos

They have been married for over 17 years and are the parents to a sweet teenage boy named Colin. Lynda's background originally started in education, but she later shifted her interest to business. Kevin, on the other hand, is an awesome Head Chef, who at some point even managed his own restaurant. Lynda realized that they had to reassess their current lifestyle after her sister had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer. They decided that it was time to focus on living a healthier lifestyle and make wiser food  choices. This was when Kevin brilliantly created delicious dishes that were way healthier than their traditional counterparts, and they soon found themselves losing weight almost effortlessly. They documented this transition and had set up a website to host their blog and sell their cookbooks. They had sold paperback versions of their cookbooks and are now looking into generating a steady income stream by offering their digital products as well. They also  want to show Colin the limitless possibilities that online business creates, and encourage him to become an entrepreneur too. Which brings us to the question at hand. SHANE: Not Amy – JOCELYN: She's such a pro – SHANE: She's so good, we said, you know what, we're just gonna drop the bomb on her. AMY: And if people send me questions in advance, I'm like, oh, I feel like I'm studying for a test. SHANE: I know. AMY: I can't do it. Just on the fly, I'll have the answers. SHANE: That's right, organic. Everything is organic right here. AMY: Totally. SHANE: Really we just have no time to prep but that's beside the point. All right Jocelyn, let's go with today's question. JOCELYN: All right, today's question is from Brad, one of our Flip Your Life members, and Brad says, “How long should my videos be? All the videos I watch on YouTube seem to be long, but a lot of experts say you should keep it short. Which one is it and what works best?” SHANE: This is very confusing because – it is true, when I read this question, I was like you know, that's true; seems like I'm always trying to learn something that's like 20-minute videos. But then I always hear, “Three to five minutes, get it out there and get it quick” kinda deal. So what do you think about that? AMY: Well it's funny – Brad, really, really good question because that's absolutely right. We are constantly kind of fielding the search results to find the video that's going to be best for us in that moment and no one is saying, “Man, I really hope I find a solid 25-minute video on this.” SHANE: That's right. AMY: No one is doing that. Now, it depends on the situation, it depends on the content; I mean, if it's an intense tutorial, then maybe you do need every minute of that. But I tend to tell people, you know, if you're creating informational content on YouTube, you really want to be between two and five minutes. If you think about the fact that you can inject so much copy into your headline, your description, your tags and you can rank really well for something; but if you end up on the results page with a video that's seven minutes and yours is twenty, and you're supposed to be accomplishing the same thing in that amount of time, you're just not gonna be the option that people choose. So it's really sort of a human SEO factor that I like to talk about is you can tell YouTube how to rank you, but according to the human that sees you when sea...
