Mario Langlois reçoit l’ancien joueur de la LNH Maxime Talbot, qui partage avec authenticité ses réflexions sur le hockey d’aujourd’hui et sur son propre parcours. À ses yeux, cette équipe est plus près de la Coupe Stanley qu’on pourrait le croire, une situation qui lui rappelle les Penguins de Pittsburgh de la saison 2006-2007, alors en pleine ascension. Talbot insiste sur l’importance d’un noyau de leadership solide dans une organisation. Il revient d’ailleurs sur son propre développement, marqué par son passage dans les rangs juniors sous la direction de Benoît Groulx, un entraîneur exigeant qui l’a aidé à devenir un joueur plus complet et plus responsable. Il partage au passage quelques souvenirs de vestiaire, parfois empreints d’un esprit « bon vivant », mais toujours révélateurs de la camaraderie propre aux équipes soudées. L’entretien aborde aussi la réalité des joueurs qui changent d’organisation, et les défis d’adaptation que cela représente. Talbot revient sur ses années dans la KHL, où lui et sa conjointe ont été, dit-il, très bien accueillis, logés et nourris. Il garde un excellent souvenir de cette ligue, qu’il décrit comme très compétitive et bien structurée. Sur un ton plus personnel, il évoque le privilège de jouer dans la LNH, les sacrifices que cela exige, et l'importance d'« avoir tous ses outils autour de sa ceinture » pour affronter les aléas d’une carrière professionnelle. Il se permet même un moment d’émotion en entonnant quelques-unes de ses chansons préférées, dont L’Escalier de Paul Piché, qui résonne pour lui comme une métaphore d’une étape marquante de sa vie. L’épisode se conclut sur une anecdote marquante liée à Mario Lemieux, qui avait personnellement écrit à chacun des joueurs de l’équipe à la veille de ce que Talbot qualifie du plus grand match de sa vie. Sergei Murashov played well for the Penguins in their preseason game against Montreal. Steigy is encouraged by Murashov and he made 6-7 great saves in the prospect game in Buffalo to help them win.
