As the Avs offseason is still in the early stages, Cale Makar has been nominated for the Norris Trophy for the third straight season, does he have a chance at actually winning the thing after the season Erik Karlsson had? It's finally time for the Connor Bedard draft lottery, will the lottery balls keep him out of the Central Division and out of the Avs hair for the foreseeable future? Finally, the full playoff update. Is Seattle actually just really good, and are the Maple Leafs really pathetic enough to get swept after finally winning a round? Locked On Avalanche - Daily Podcast On The Colorado Avalanche
Cale Makar has been nominated for his 3rd straight Norris Trophy. Last year we all were pretty confident he had a good chance to take home the award, which he eventually did while beating out Nashville Predators defenseman Roman Josi. This year might be a little more difficult to take home the hardware as San Jose Sharks d-man Erik Karlsson is the heavy favorite to win it. Makar even being nominated might be a little surprising to some due to him missing over 20 games this season. Extend those missed games out to a full year, and Makar's offensive numbers are up there with the rest of the league. But even minus those 20 games, Makar's numbers are still up there with the rest of the league. We also take some time to discuss our hockey viewing habits when the Avalanche are not the team on our television. How do it change and is it a good thing? Tune in, subscribe and enjoy! Locked On Avalanche - Daily Podcast On The Colorado Avalanche
The Colorado Avalanche find themselves in a position they never were in during last year's Stanley Cup run. They are facing elimination after a 3-2 loss to the Seattle Kraken in Game 5 in front of the home crowd at Ball Arena. The Avalanche will look to send the series back to Denver for a Game 7, but in order to do that they will need to find a way to get more production from several players. Down key players like Val Nichushkin, Darren Helm, Gabriel Landeskog and of course Cale Makar due to suspension, it wasn't pretty attempting to get pucks into the zone and make Philipp Grubauer work for saves. It's do or die for the Avs. One way or another after Game 6 they are coming back to Denver. It will either be to play one more game, or because their season is over. Tune in, subscribe and enjoy! Yet another juicy night of NHL postseason hockey action unfolded Tuesday night with a number of intriguing storylines and questionable plays to break down. Flip and Steele have it all covered for you on Wednesday's brand-new episode, featuring a deep dive into the current situation unfolding in the Minnesota Wild-Dallas Stars series. More iffy penalty calls continue to affect the outcome of this series, including the kneeing penalty taken by Marcus Foligno for his hit on Radek Faksa. In other action, before the boys get to their big-time bets for Wednesday night's NHL betting board, the pesky New York Islanders hang on against the Carolina Hurricanes on the back of another sensational performance from Ilya Sorokin to force a Game 6 back on Long Island. The Hurricanes have struggled on the road at times this season and with their offence not exactly firing on all cylinders, this could be a spot for the Islanders to capitalize - but they're going to need to also be a lot better on the offensive side of the puck. Lastly, we have to discuss the Seattle Kraken giving the reigning Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche absolutely all they can handle in this series, as Philipp Grubauer continues to outduel his counterpart Alexander Georgiev. Without more key pieces in the Avs' lineup for Game 5, including the recently suspended Cale Makar, this Colorado team might be in for a seriously rude awakening. Locked On Avalanche - Daily Podcast On The Colorado Avalanche
Cale Makar will not be on the ice for the Colorado Avalanche for Game 5 of the series with the Seattle Kraken after his hit on Jared McCann. Why this calls into question, yet again, the inconsistencies of the Department of Player Safety. The Avalanche will have to really turn things around with how they are starting games if they want to leave Denver with a 3-2 series lead. Once again Seattle set the tone of the game and it took the Avalanche a period plus to get back into the flow. Playing from behind is not what you want and the Avs have done that every game of the series. Things are getting tense between the two teams, and the Avs are playing into it with some bad penalties that is costing them on the ice. A lot to get too on this episode! Tune in and subscribe! Why watch overtime playoff hockey when you can simply snort cocaine and ride a motorcycle out of a helicopter?! This week's Kraken Reaction (3:24) has Jeff and Joey IMMEDIATELY diving into game 4 of the Seattle Kraken vs. Colorado Avalanche playoff series following an epic overtime win at the hands of Jordan Eberle. The two break down the game and why they're so pumped on the team that everyone in the national media doubted before Joey calls his friend Dan, a Colorado native and lifelong Avs fan to discuss Cale Makar, what's going wrong with Colorado, why he needed adult supervision at Ball Arena during game 2, and much more. Next, Jeff and Joey go over their highlights from the three previous games and discuss how the Kraken can win game 5 without Father Canner in the lineup. No Dumb Questions (38:51) has Member of the Kraken Pod Fam Jared Ostrader weighing in after Makar's hit on McCann gifted him a suspension for game 5 and how exactly the playoff ejection system works in the NHL and how the NHL Player Safety Office plays a critical role in determining the outcomes in everything across the league. 3 Stars of the Week has everything from homemade margaritas, Nate Diaz choking out people on Bourbon Street, the Colorado Buffaloes, golf tournaments, and how the boys will be honoring Jordan Eberle's heroics with National Dad Energy Day. Ending, as always, with the Chirp (celebration) of the Week. Subscribe: On All podcasting apps, rate & review on iTunes, Apple Podcasts, and Spotify! Gregg Bell (Tacoma News Tribune), DRAFTMAS: Stocking Stuffers & Reckless at Breakfast: we decide Cale Makar's punishment.
The Avalanche's star players showed up big time and led the Avs to a huge 6-4 win over the Seattle Kraken in Game 3, giving them a 2-1 series lead and ruining Seattle's first playoff game in over 100 years. The Kraken had no answer for the Avs star power. Nathan MacKinnon disrespected the Kraken several times over, and finally broke through for two goals. Mikko Rantanen finished the night with three points, and Cale Makar was dancing all night long. Can the Avs star power continue to distance themselves from the Kraken, and put them into position to wrap this series up with a 3-1 series lead in Game 5?
