Carl, Cass, and Chris discuss a road series win over Minnesota and a midweek tie By Carl James @jovian34 April 25th, 2024 The Indiana University Baseball team won it's third straight B1G series this past weekend in Minneapolis. Ty Bothwell was electric as Indiana cruised to victory in the series opener on Saturday. Friday's freeze-out turned Sunday into a double header. The first game was a disaster for the Hoosiers who struggled in most facets of the game and suffered their 4th run-rule style loss of the season.  The Hoosiers had very short memories as they jumped out to a three-run lead on the third batter of the second game and controlled the game the rest of the way. Tuesday's anticipated in-state matchup on the big stage of Victory Field in Indianapolis was unfortunately washed out by rain. The game moved to Wednesday in Muncie. The Hoosiers were down 7-1 top of the 8th. 3 runs in the 8th and 9th forced extra innings. No one scored the rest of the way and the game was called a tie for darkness after 12 innings. Hoosier bullpen arms held the Cardinals scoreless for the last 5 innings. For information on the Hoosier Ticket Project that Chris discussed, you can visit the Hoosier Ticket Project website or email info@hoosierticketproject.org Video: Audio:

he Indianapolis Indians are embracing the solar eclipse with special items for fans. It comes as opening week aligns with the weekend of the celestial sight. The Triple-A side's first home stand started with cold and wet weather. They split a pair of games Tuesday and Thursday against the Memphis Redbirds.Wednesday's game was rained out, team officials announced it would be made up as a doubleheader on Saturday.Communications Director Cheyne Reiter says there's a lot to look forward to this season.“Paul Skeens the number one overall pick in last year's Major League draft, he's starting for the Indians [Friday],” Reiter said. “Come out, it won't be warm but he'll light up the radar gun [with his] 100-plus mile-an-hour fastball.”Starting Friday, the team will hand out solar eclipse glasses and debut a new city jersey. Then, the first 1,000 fans on Saturday will get a special glow-in-dark eclipsed-themed shirt. Meanwhile, on Sunday, the first 1,000 young fans will get a sun moon, and earth juggling set.Reiter says the Indians are hoping to use the cosmic alignment to gain new fans.“It's not happening again where we're in the path of totality for a total solar eclipse until 2153,” Reiter said. “Unfortunately, none of us are going to be around that one. It's just a chance for people to experience Indianapolis, experience the eclipse.”Victory Field isn't hosting a viewing party on Monday, but the parking lot will be open for paid parking. Team officials encourage downtown visitors to go to the free event, Lunacy at White River State Park.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Welcome to an interview with former Indiana University athletic director, Fred Glass. Get Fred's book here: https://amzn.to/3tCY7hj In this episode, Fred discussed how Indianapolis managed to keep the Colts, its strategy to sustain it, and the impact and advantages that the team provides to the city. This podcast will make you think about the economics of business in sports and understand the deep thinking behind the scenes that makes it all possible. Fred served as a law clerk for U.S. District Court Judge S. Hugh Dillin, also an IU alumnus. From 1989 to 1993, he was chief of staff to former Indiana Gov. Evan Bayh, and, in 2000, helmed the transition team chief for former Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson. Peterson appointed Fred, then a partner in the law firm of Baker & Daniels (now Faegre Baker Daniels), to the city's Capital Improvement Board, which oversees Lucas Oil Stadium, the Indiana Convention Center, Conseco Fieldhouse, and Victory Field. Fred negotiated a number of sports-related wins for the city, including: adding Indianapolis to the permanent hosting rotation for the NCAA Final Four Tournament; laying the groundwork for the city's successful 2012 Super Bowl bid; and putting together the strategy and plans for development of Lucas Oil Stadium. In 2008, President McRobbie appointed Fred as Indiana University's vice president and director of athletics. Since assuming the role, Fred has worked tirelessly to ensure IU returns to its rightful place as one of the premier athletic departments in the country. His tenure has been marked, in part, by a deep commitment to the wellness, development, and achievement of the students under his charge. His 24 Sports, One Team philosophy has brought together student athletes from all IU sports, encouraging them to attend each other's games, support one another, and function as an extended IU family. Randy Lewandowski enters his 25th year with the Indianapolis Indians and fourth as the club’s general manager in 2018. He is just the team’s fourth general manager since the organization was incorporated in 1955. In addition to his duties as GM, he was named president by the Indians board of directors in November 2016. Lewandowski was named the International League’s 2016 Executive of the Year, marking the third Executive of the Year award for the Indians front office staff since joining the International League in 1998. After joining the Tribe as a ticket office intern in 1994, Lewandowski was hired full-time as assistant ticket manager the following year. He served in that capacity for two seasons, including during the Indians’ transition from Bush Stadium to Victory Field in 1996. Lewandowski took over as director of operations in 1998, helping Victory Field host the 2001 Triple-A All-Star game. He transitioned to assistant general manager in 2002, serving as one of the team’s two assistant general managers before becoming the sole assistant GM in 2005. In this role, his primary responsibilities were overseeing the marketing, operations and ticket departments. Over the final five seasons of Lewandowski’s tenure as assistant general manager, the team recorded five straight seasons of increased attendance, including leading Minor League Baseball in 2013 and setting a Victory Field record the year after. That success would continue following Lewandowski’s ascension to general manager in October 2014 as the team eclipsed its top season attendance mark for the second consecutive year. In 2016 and 2017, the Tribe once again led Minor League Baseball in attendance. Lewandowski has been active in the Indiana chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society as past president and board member, and past chair of the LLS Light the Night Walk. For a seven-year period, he was active in the youth sports coaching and mentoring ministry at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church and School. Lewandowski spearheaded a partnership between the Indians and Play Ball Indiana in 2015 and now serves on the organization’s board of directors. A native of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Lewandowski graduated with a degree in business management from Anderson University in 1993. He was also a four-year starter on the Ravens baseball team, where he earned academic All-America honors as a first baseman and pitcher. Lewandowski resides in Carmel, Ind., with his wife, Christina, and their two children, Alyssa and Sam.
