3 Jets Players who Could Impact Gang Green's Draft Plans

JetNation Radio; NY Jets Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 28, 2026 29:34

While pundits, insiders and fans all try to figure out what Gang Green will do on draft day, it’s worth considering which current Jets could have the biggest impact on they do when they’re on the clock. https://api.spreaker.com/v2/episodes/70361220/download.mp3 The general consensus appears to be that most believe a premium pick will be used to add a wide receiver given the lack of playmakers after Garrett Wilson at the position,  At the same time, the though of adding a cornerback early on won’t be in the cards.  Could we be wrong on both counts?  The Jets have plenty of questions to address, but some of the answers may already be in place. WR AD Mitchell:  By adding Mitchell in the Sauce Gardner trade last season, the Jets brought in a 6′ 2” pass catcher who ran a 4.34 40 and had plenty of quality tape against high level competition.  Of course he did very little with the Jets, but you can’t name a receiver who would have been productive with the level of play the Jets had at quarterback. Mitchell impressed when given a shot and absolutely has the ability to be a WR2.  Hell, in time he could develop into a WR1.  So do the Jets use a top 100 pick on a position if they believe internally that they aren’t desperate to add? CB Jarvis Brownlee: Brownlee was an in-season addition in a day 3 pick swap with the Titans.  Tennessee was willing to give up on the second-year corner because he couldn’t shake his tendency to commit penalties.   Brownlee had a few positive moments with the Jets, but also committed several penalties which could raise some red flags. Many fans seem to be comfortable with the idea of Brownlee being the team’s starting nickel, but if Aaron Glenn is looking to field a disciplined football team, could Brownlee’s penchant for getting dinged lead the team to look for a slot in the draft? C Josh Myers: Myers did a serviceable job at center last season which did lead him to inking a 2-year extension worth up to $11 million. It’s starter money, but hardly breaking the bank.  Do the Jets feel comfortable enough with Myers to forego the opportunity to grab a potential starter in a deep center class?  Our expectation is that the Jets take a center in the middle rounds who can compete for the starting job as Myers is hardly irreplaceable. When you go 3-14 in one of the worst seasons your franchise has ever produced, there’s no shortage of issues that will have angered, frustrated or disappointed a huge number of fans.  Jets fans who just sat though this, and many other terrible seasons can attest. https://api.spreaker.com/v2/episodes/69346812/download.mp3 So we took the time to sit down and go over a few under-the-radar issues that got under our skin.  Not the play of Justin Fields, Tyrod Taylor or Brady Cook.  Not the performance of offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand or the departed Quinnen Williams or Sauce Gardner. JetNation.com contributor Brandon Natale joins us as we talk coaching, offense, defense and what a nightmare the 2025 season was.The post Biggest Disappointments of Wasted Jets Season appeared first on JetNation.com - New York Jets Blog & Forum.

Hour 1: Jets Rock Bottom and Why Firing Aaron Glenn Could Backfire

Joe Benigno and Evan Roberts

Evan and Tiki break down the brutal reality of the New York Jets after an embarrassing finish to the season and a disastrous first year under Aaron Glenn. They explain why Aaron Rodgers winning games in Pittsburgh does not mean the Jets made the wrong decision, and why keeping him would have actually made the future worse. The conversation dives into whether firing Aaron Glenn after one season would truly fix anything, or if it would push the Jets further into dysfunction. Evan lays out why “trust me” and “have faith” is not a real plan, while still arguing that a one and done firing may do more harm than good without a clear upgrade waiting. They examine how trading Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams changed the locker room, why the roster looked nonprofessional down the stretch, and how the Jets ended up here with so little talent on the field. Plus, a realistic look at the quarterback options, draft capital, cap space, and whether there is any legitimate reason for hope moving forward. It is an honest Black Monday discussion about a franchise at rock bottom and the dangerous choices that come next.

After that, they discuss how things seems to be pointing towards Philip Rivers starting on Sunday and Garrison Mathews being signed to the Pacers roster. (25:44-35:26) – Jake proposes the question as to what we would be talking about if Daniel Jones doesn’t get hurt because he thinks that there is a really good chance that Jones receives a contract extension despite the season ending injury. He also loops Anthony Richardson into the equation. (35:26-43:12) – The first hour of the show concludes with Jake Query receiving the first listener call in the new studio with a listener disagreeing with his take in the previous segment about Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones.
