In the end, no one play or call will cost a team a win. However, a call during the Cincinnati Bengals and New York Jets game against Bengals corner Mike Hilton did keep the Bengals from having a chance to change the outcome in their 34-31 loss to the Jets. Each week and each season there seem to be more and more calls by NFL officials that upset fans. Many hoped when the replay system was installed, mistakes made by officials would be reduced. However, in the NFL and at the college level, there seem to be more and more questionable calls made leaving fans questioning how the NFL continues to have issues each week. While my rant won't in this episode of In The Trenches with Dave Lapham presented by First Star Logistics won't change the outcome, I had to get my thoughts off my chest. 3/9/2021Season 11, Episode 88 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can and in this Tuesday show, Alex Kozora and I get right to talking about the start of the new league now being right around the corner and how things should start hearing up soon when it comes to the Pittsburgh Steelers.A few new contract details related to Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger have surfaced since the Friday show, so we make sure to recap those notes. We also go over where the Steelers are right now when it comes to their own salary cap situation and what all might be in store for the team related to that in the next few days. It’s only a matter of time before the Steelers lose cornerback Mike Hilton to free agency so we go over why he’s deserving of a big deal in the next several weeks and recap a few of his recent comments made during his interview on SiriusXM NFL Radio. Will the Steelers be able to retain any of their top unrestricted free agents in the coming days? Alex and I discuss that topic and go deeper in the pending free agency of wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster. That talk about the Steelers young wide receiver includes comments made recently by Rod Woodson and what the offense would do to replace Smith-Schuster should he leave via free agency. will Smith-Schuster be the top wide receiver in free agency? We discuss that aspect of him in this show as well.News about Steelers outside linebacker Bud Dupree surfaced during the recording of this show and so Alex and I provide instant reaction to it.Some interesting Pro Days will take place the rest of this week, so we cover that topic along with a few other news and notes from around the NFL that have taken place the last few days. Alex also goes over his offensive free agent wish list on this show.Purdue wide receiver Rondale Moore was recently mocked to the Steelers at 24 overall in a recent offering from Pro Football Focus so Alex and I profile him and go over if he should be considered a legitimate first-round target. We then wrap up several loose ends late in this Tuesday show before turning our attention to several questions we received from listeners of the show since our last episode was released.

Will the Steelers get Roethlisberger’s contract adjustment done soon? We discuss.Former Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt is signing with the Arizona Cardinals so Alex and I discuss his decision and the money he reportedly is signing for.The Steelers reportedly have some pre-draft interest in Auburn wide receiver Anthony Schwartz so Alex and I quickly go over what we know already about the speedster.I recently wrote about explosive run rates of the top running backs in this year’s draft class so Alex and I chew on that topic. We also discuss the latest mock draft that Alex released on Monday and go over it from top to bottom.Alabama running back Najee Harris certainly appears to be on the Steelers radar when it comes to the 2021 NFL Draft so Alex and I discuss his play based on his explosive runs from 2020 that I have contextualized for the site. Will the Steelers be able to re-sign a free agent or two of theirs in the next few weeks? We discuss the latest on players such as wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, cornerback Mike Hilton, tackle Zach Banner and more.We then wrap up several loose ends late in this Tuesday show before turning our attention to several questions we received from listeners of the show since our last episode was released.

With the Steelers languishing for the better part of three quarters, Ben Roethlisberger places a bomb on the outstretched hands of Diontae Johnson to complete a 39 yard touchdown that sparked a 21 point explosion over the three possessions to overcome what was looking like an insurmountable deficit. The defense was inspired by the offensive awakening, holding the Colts to 3 points and 148 offensive yards. We talk about what was seemingly the only story of this game - Ben casting off whatever, trepidation, pain, caution he was exhibiting over the last 3.75 games and placing the team on his shoulders. Not that the defense was waiting for a signal. Mike Hilton continued to show why we're nervous about our ability to keep him next season with an INT and 2 defended passes. Should they? Alex and I have a long discussion related to that topic in addition to a few minor topics related to that.Midway through this show, Alex and I are joined once again by Dr. Melanie Friedlander, who has covered and analyzed Steelers injuries and other health-related topics for us on the site for several years now. In this interview, Dr. Mel discusses with us what all she now understands about the elbow surgery that Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger had, how his rehab has gone, what the expectations should be for him in 2020 and more. We also talk to Dr. Mel about comparisons between Roethlisberger’s injury/surgery to that of Steelers quarterback Terry Bradshaw back in the 1980s. We also discuss NF health protocols for training camp related to COVID-19, if the preseason should be shortened and how teams might approach their summer practices. As usual, make sure you are following Dr. Mel on Twitter at @girlsurgeon.Is Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey the most overrated offensive lineman of his generation? Alex and I discuss that topic during the back-end of this show.We close out this Friday podcast by answering a few more emails we’ve received from listeners. Thanks for listening and don’t forget to call or email with questions or comments and please pass us along to your friends!

The Pittsburgh Steelers spent plenty of draft capital on its defense over the years. But for various reasons, many of those picks didn't have positive returns. But the team brain trust admitted their drafting deficiencies and made up for them by trading for Minkah Fitzpatrick, signing Joe Haden and Steven Nelson and discovering Mike Hilton – and that's just the un-Steelers-like renovation in the secondary. Pittsburgh will always prefer home-grown players, but the defense being built by going outside the organization is something special. And in 2020, the rebuilt D should show its strength like never before. I tell you all the reasons why in this prediction-oriented edition of the Steelers Update podcast. Steelers 26 Seahawks 28Ben Roethlisberger left this game with one drive to go in the first half with what looked like a right elbow industry, yielding his position to Mason Rudolph. This was just more bad news in a game that signalled to Steelers Nation that it’s going to be a long year. The injury bug also hit James Conner, who, except for one play of 14 yards experienced more futility, gaining of 33 yards on 11 carries.Emerging this game was Mason Rudolph who was 12/19 for 112 yards, 2 TDs and 2 INTs (the aforementioned INT caused by Moncrief and the second a pass into the end zone on a two-point conversion attempt).Donte Moncrief did less than redeem the three passes he dropped last week, by letting a pass slip through his hands into the the waiting hands of Seattle’s Bradley McDougald.Although the Steelers got Vance McDonald involved in the game a lot earlier than last week, JuJu Smith-Schuster and James Washington might as well have been shelling peanuts on the sideline until even getting a look at the ball just a few minutes before the first half ended. The defense gave us hope as Stephon Tuitt registered 2.5 sacks and was tearing at the gates all day. Stephen Nelson was generally locking down DK Metcalf, proving himself as capable a cornerback as we have seen in a while. We got a HUGE boost when TJ Watt also tallied a sack while also spending a lot of time terrorizing the offensive backfield. In particular, Watt forced a fumble from Chris Carson that Mark Barron picked up and delivered to the endzone, only to have the TD called back due to a block in the back expertly delivered by Sean Davis.Although Devin Bush did not have a career day, he too picked up a fumble dislodged by Mike Hilton and managed to return it to the Seattle 3 yard line, from which Rudolph delivered a strike to McDonald for a TD.We’re glad to see Chris Boswell appearing to be back in 2017 form, hitting field goals of 41 and 33 yards as well as two XPs. I’ve never met someone so passionate about growing other people than Mike Hilton. Mike is such a positive person and an inspiration to be around. You will be instantly motivated to find your passion and take action today.“Anytime we stubbed our toe it an obstacle, is really just a highlight reel in the making. If you never hit the obstacles, you will never really have the highlight reel.”Mike Hilton believes that everyone has a responsibility to use their talents to positively impact the world around them. This idea took root at the University of Dayton, a community based on servant leadership. It gained momentum through teaching high school and playing an active role in the lives of emerging leaders. It was published in Mike’s book, The Next Great You. And it continues to take shape at home in Lexington, KY, a vibrant community that brings ideas to life.At home in Kentucky, Mike is the proud husband and dad of Team Hilton. He’s a believer in the powerful ability of food to bring people together, and is always looking for opportunities to break bread (or chili, or BBQ, or grilled things). And when it’s time to recharge, all he needs is his hiking boots and a dirt path.“Have the self-confidence to realize you are going to be able to handle that unexpected turn when it comes. My husband Brandon and I have a phrase we use often, it’s “And that’s okay.” As we recap our days, we will mention something we wanted to get done, but never got around to doing. “And that’s okay,” the other one will say. It’s our way of giving each other the forgiveness we needed to give ourselves. We say it so much, Henna gets to use it. She lays in bed until the afternoon, and we don’t want to make her move to make the bed, so we will say, “Henna’s extra tired today, and that’s okay,” as we move on to something else. The timing of this season of episodes is never what I intended it to be. I always think I am going to be far more proactive with my free time and want to sit down and edit the episodes in the week or two following my interview. I frequently share how editing the episodes is my least favorite part about hosting a podcast, however the conversations I have with people from all over the world make it worth it, but nonetheless, I procrastinate for far too long.Of course, the timing always seems to work out perfectly in the long run. This time as I was editing during my Christmas break and knew this would come out around the New Year, many of the episodes reminded of the various resolutions we establish with ourselves this time of the year. You can find mine here. So much of this season is wrapped up in improving yourself or going after those dreams. The problem is, we often forget to tell ourselves how much we have accomplished or were able to experience before we got to those resolutions. I can beat myself up for not editing those podcast interviews, but I wouldn’t be recognizing the amazing time I’ve had in my new job or the new friends I have gotten to enjoy.Selfish, to me, is much more than the massage we take time out for each month, or the bubble bath we take on Sunday night to ward off the Sunday Scaries, but its about keeping our mental mind game in check. Instead of having anxiety over the 10 pounds you resolved to lose this year, think back to the amazing meals you were able to have with your husband during date nights. Sometimes we may choose not to get up and go to the gym in the morning, because we just have to read the last chapter of the book we're loving. You may not say yes to every friend that invites you to an event, because you are having a great time at home. What a blessing that is, that we have the ability to experience new restaurants, that we found a book that demands all our attention, and that we have a home we enjoy being in.I am eager for you to dive into the stories of Mike Hilton and Bri Seeley who want nothing more than for individuals to be leading with purpose. They have developed tools to encourage you to do that, while giving you permission to leap. Amy Kaufman and Drew Ackerman took unfortunate situations and made them into brilliant business decisions. You couldn’t have made up these stories of redemption if you tried! André Wilson and Leigh Weinraub really break things down psychologically for us. André looks at why we are dress ourselves a certain way and Leigh wants you to look within to find that motivation you need. Steelers 41  Falcons 17 This felt good even though we dominated a cellar-dwelling team. The last time we used "domination" to describe the Steelers, the regular season had not yet begun. Join us as we review how it all came together in this game and whether we can sustain this level of performance. The Ben-AB "wifi" was wonky, but finally hit 4 bars on a class 49 yard shot from Ben to AB for Antonio's second TD of the game.  James Conner reprised his role from the Brown's game, gaining 110 yards on the ground, scoring 2 rushing TDs and picking up another 75 yards via arial bombardment. With that receiving production, James now has as many runs over 20 yards (3) as Le'Veon had all last season! Beyond the offense getting uncorked, the story here was the defense. This was an impressive performance by all measures. The line and OLBs appeared to surge into the Atlanta backfield all day, supported by the Silver Bullet, Mike Hilton, recording 6 sacks.  TJ Watt sputtered to life, getting three of those sacks and disgorging the ball from Matt Ryan near the Falcon end zone, giving LJ Fort to fall on the ball and score a defensive touchdown.  The Falcons were held to 62 yards rushing, while Ryan and Co. were able to produce 305 yards in the air, primarily through a myriad of passes thrown under 10 yards, leveraged by YAC.  Jorden Berry did a 180 degree turnaround averaging 489 yards per punt and landing one at the Falcon 2 yard line. Rosie Nix blocked a punt. Boz continues to worry us with another missed XP. But this game left us with an uneasy feeling about the Steelers ability to replicate this against more formidable opponents.  More to come....     Please drop us a note:  Hit us up on Twitter at @Steelersoutpost  Leave us a note at the website - www.Steelersoutpost.com  Shoot us an email at Steelersoutpost@gmail.com
