From a season long-rivalry that ended in the State Finals, to a somewhat unexpected move in the middle of his career, and finishing with a storybook ending, Riley shares a lot on his wrestling philosophy and gives an excellent retelling of the biggest moments of his high school career. It's truly a path leading to future dominoes to fall (along with some unexpected turns of fate) that resulted in Riley becoming the Fennimore head coach, and we were tuned in for the whole ride!Support the show

President of the GBCA and NHSBCA Coach Allen Whitehart just finished his seventh season at Milton High School with a career head coaching record of 384-122. This past season, Coach Whitehart led the Eagles to a Final Four Finish and a 20-11 record while qualifying for the state playoffs, his 17th time in 17 seasons as a head coach. Within the seven years as head coach at Milton, the 2020-2021 season was the high point. The Eagles won the 2021 GHSA 7A State Championship, was invited to Geico Nationals for the first time in school history, and finished the season ranked #6 in the nation. In recognition of this remarkable season, Coach Whitehart was chosen as the NHSCA Boys National High School Coach of the Year, Region Coach of the Year (Coaches and GACA), Georgia Class 7A Coach of the Year (Kyle Sandy, AJC, and GACA) and the Bobby Cremins Georgia Coach of the Year (Atlanta Tip-Off Club). Over his 17-year head coaching year career, Coach Whitehart's teams have accomplished the following: 7 Final Fours, 4 State Finals, 1 State Championship, 3 State Runner-up, 10 Region Championships, 1 Geico National High School Championship Invite, 4 Times Ranked Nationally (#6, #19, #21 and #34). In addition, Coach Whitehart served as one of the founding members of the Georgia Basketball Coaches Association (GBCA), and currently serves as president of the organization. He also currently serves as the Vice President of the NHSBCA helping to grow and shape the game at the national level. After a devastating 7th place finish at the 2023 IHSA Sectionals, this episode tells the story of the 2023-2024 Grayslake Central Varsity Cheer (GCVC) team's year long journey to make is back to the State Finals The athletes of GCVC spent months training in and out of the gym. From stunt training to weight lifting, this team focused on the fundamentals, being unified, and holding themselves and each other to their own standard — being better than they were yesterday. Their months of hard work prepared them for success. Finishing the regular season with a high score of 94.08, placing 1st at 5 of 6 competitions and winning the Northern Lake County Conference Championship, GCVC was ready for Sectionals. But the journey back to the State Series would not be an easy one. Between the pressure, nerves and some unforeseen circumstances, the Rams had their toughest performance of the season at arguably the worst time. A 4th place finish was far from their anticipated placement but the Rams celebrated their ticket to compete at State! With only 3 athletes that had ever competed at the State Series, the Ramily was determined to finish the 2024 season at the IHSA State Finals. This team, did just that! GCVC had an unbelievable performance in the State prelims, hitting the routine deduction-free. The Rams were headed back to the State Finals! GCVC hit another deduction-free routine to finish the season 5th in the State. This team became 1 of only 4 cheerleading teams in the history of Grayslake Central to place top 5 at the State Series.   A grueling 8 month season all comes down to 1 routine, 52 8 counts, 2 minutes and 49 seconds but the moments, the memories, the bond of this team will last a lifetime.
