When Lindsey was single, she started taking solo trips. It’s one of those things she always gets questions about: What do you recommend? How do you not freak out? How do you manage anxiety or loneliness? Being alone is a chance to come back to center and recognize your own energy, and by doing something active and engaging alone, without having to juggle others’ expectations, it can be a great opportunity to tune into your own wants, needs, and desires. She goes into the purpose of solo trips, things that might come up, the feelings around anticipation, managing excitement and anxiety, and maximizing the opportunities found in taking a trip like this. Solo trips are an incredible way to heal your soul. We also talk about: Why it’s important to be thinking about this now, during this time of year Why Lindsey started taking solo trips Planning your solo trip Spending on what’s important to you Creating a mood board Taking safety precautions Finding a balance of routine and freedom Five things Lindsey loves to do on her trips Find more to love at almost30.com! A former college athlete at the University of Louisville, Lindsey first became passionate about Life Coaching when she embarked on her own personal development journey. 5 years after graduating college Lindsey found herself feeling stuck, facing a disappointing truth that she was settling for the life she was “supposed” to live, instead of the life she knew she was meant to live. After hiring her own coach to help her fulfill her potential, she knew coaching was what she was meant to do all along. Never running or owning a business before, Lindsey became a self-made entrepreneur, when she launched her coaching business while working her full-time job. Through building an impactful online brand and leaving an impression on all the women she worked with, her business exploded and she was able to retire from the corporate world 6 months later. She just started her 3rd year in business and has been named as one of Southern Indiana’s 30 Under 30 entrepreneurs and business owners has a podcast with over 80k downloads in its first year and is scaling her virtual business to 1 million dollars of impact and income. It is her life’s mission to be an example of what’s possible and break the mold on what ANY woman is capable of doing in life, business and everything in between. In the near future she plans to write her first book, speak on stage at large events, and continue to grow an impactful brand for women. When Lindsey isn’t working, you can find her reading, learning and continuing to embark on her own journey of creating her best life, because she fully believes the best coaches come from being the best students of their own lessons. As an English major and Benjamin Franklin Honors Scholar, I continued devouring every book and magazine I could get my hands on and dreaming up stories (most of which didn’t take place along the Oregon Trail). Post-college, I shipped out to bucolic Vermont to teach creative writing and Pilates to high school kids at a summer arts camp. There, I picked blueberries, ran across rolling hills, and realized I was not nearly mature enough to be teaching anyone much of anything. And so I moved to Manhattan and broke into magazine publishing, starting at Glamour and then moving on to Redbook and next Self, where I was Features Editor. I worked on stories about relationships and sex, parenting, social activism, career and finances, and well-being; I interviewed the occasional V.I.P. (including Michelle Obama and both Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton, a.k.a. Coach and Mrs. Taylor for Friday Night Lights fans); and I gathered material for what would eventually become my debut novel, PRETTY IN INK. After nearly a decade in publishing, I decided I was finally ready to try my hand at teaching again. So I waved goodbye to magazines and began my Master’s of English Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. I took classes on Shakespeare and adolescent literature, and talked books with teenagers. I then joined the faculty of NEST+m, a Manhattan public high school, as the A.P. Literature and Creative Writing teacher, plus advisor of the literary magazine, the yearbook, and National Honor Society. During my three years of teaching, I aspired to be a slightly more down-to-earth reincarnation of my favorite fictional teacher, Miss Jean Brody. These days, I work as a scriptwriter at BrainPOP, an animated educational site for kids. I spend my days researching topics as diverse as Nuclear Fusion, Emily Dickinson, and the Tuskegee Airmen, and then translating what I’ve learned into an engaging, narrative format. My scripts get made into short films to be shown in classrooms grades 4-10, nationwide and around the world. I live in Brooklyn, NY with my husband and 1-year-old daughter. We cover step-by-step how to create an irresistible lead magnet to grow your community and build an evergreen funnel to capture leads. We recently co-hosted a webinar with Lindsey Morando from HelloBar on how to create an irresistible lead magnet to grow your community. We’ve asked Lindsey to join us in this episode to tell us more about building an evergreen funnel. Lindsey Morando is Hello Bar’s Director of Marketing. She has over 15 years of marketing and business development experience that spans multiple industries. Lindsey prides herself on the creation and implementation of engaging grassroots and online marketing tactics that convert fans into paying, happy customers. When Lindsey is not moving the marketing needle for businesses, she is a marketing professor at the San Diego Fashion Institute and the author of “It’s Just the Beginning, Break Up, Get Up & Walk Away. Question: Tell us a little about yourself and why you are so passionate about helping entrepreneurs and companies build their email list? Answer: I started my journey in email marketing in 2002. One of the first instances where I started to see the value of email marketing was when I was collecting email addresses at a local bar for a Monday night football raffle. I would collect the email addresses, input them by hand, and manually unsubscribe all the bounces. I was able to see how email promotion filled the bar every week. That was one of the first instances where I saw the power of email marketing. Question: What is the main problem that we all face if we have a website? Answer: The main problem is keeping people on the site and getting them to take the action you want them to take, whether it’s collecting their email address, taking your free trial offer or getting a sale. 98% of website visitors are leaving without taking the action step you want them to take, which means you’re spending a lot of time, money and energy between social media, ads and SEO to drive traffic to your website for them to leave. Websites are an afterthought, so you have to work hard to keep them there, engage them and making sure the site is in line with the overall marketing and strategy plan. Question: What are your thoughts on using an exit pop-up to get people to take action? Answer: That one converts the best. The exit pop-up on our site has collected an extra 900 free trial sign-ups. It converts really well and there’s a reason it works really well. The pop-up only displays when someone is about to leave your site, so if someone is about to leave anyway, it’s not intrusive. You’re also giving them an added incentive. Google did a ton of user data research and they found people are far less annoyed with a page takeover upon exit then a model on the center of the screen. Question: How can we set goals that make sense for our business? Answer: When it comes to setting goals that actually make sense for your business, you have to think about the ultimate action step you want people to take. Do you want to sell more courses? Do you want to sell coaching or consulting spots? Do you want to sell more e-commerce products? Start there. I suggest goal setting for 90 days instead of a year. So much changes in a year. Look at what you’re focusing on in the next 90 days and link that to your goal. Question: Can you talk a little bit about what a lead magnet is and how to create a magnet that people want? Answer: You have your goal- what you want people to achieve. Next you need to determine what steps they need to take to get to that point. The lead magnet is a free offer, something that allows someone to get to know you, provide value to your community and ultimately gets people down the path you want them to go. Free offers are all around you, free pizza samples at Costco that lead to buying a whole pizza, the 14 day gym trial or hopping on a site and getting a free course, mini-challenge or book. How do you create an offer? That’s the biggest question. It used to be that people would opt into a newsletter, but these days free offers are more prevalent online so people are more selective. You have to know your ideal client that’s coming to your site and you have to know why they are coming. What are they typing in Google and what are they looking for? From there, create the offer from the pain point. Give them a simple thing that gets them where they want to go. Once you’ve captured the pain point, you know why they’re coming to you specifically. Then, whether it’s a course or a challenge depends on what you already have. If you already have a course, take a small portion of it to create a mini-course or mini-challenge. You just want to get people some quick wins and results because if you can achieve that with your free offer, they are going to buy your product. Question: How do you know when you’re doing well? Answer: On average, for every 100 visitors to your site, you should be collecting around 5 email addresses. If you have an amazing, enticing offer, you’ll collect a lot more than that. If you’re not getting a good rate, Hello Bar allows you to test offers, headlines and graphics. I suggest testing the headline first because that’s where you get the most traction and then testing offers after that. "Dear God, give us a MIRACLE, please. This is my prayer. This is what I beg of You.” When Lindsey found out that her husband, Dan, might have cancer, she was terrified. The possibility that her husband might die in the next five years brought a weight of uncertainty to their family of four. In this whirlwind of fear and heartache, Lindsey and Dan were forced to give all control to God and trust in His sovereignty.
“I have somewhat been a magnet for narcissists my whole life,” says Lindsey Ellison, founder of Start Over – Find Happiness, a coaching program. She now runs a course called “Break Free from Your Narcissist” that helps women overcome difficulties and get free from narcissistic partners. Women need to realize that it is impossible to nurture a narcissist enough. That’s where narcissists get the gasoline for their ego. Someone who falls in love with a narcissist is frequently a co-dependent person. They give away too much to someone who hasn’t earned it. Listen to the podcast for insight into how to break free from a narcissist…AND listen to Lindsey read her story of the worst Mother’s Day ever (and what she did about it). Tough Life Writing Helps Other Women Not a lot of people understand narcissists and sociopaths. When Lindsey first started her blog, she was writing to no one, but she started pitching them to Huffington Post. However, her personal story about not wanting to have sex with her husband got picked up and resonated with women. Now, as a regular contributor, she writes specifically about what women go through and receives hundreds of comments on her articles. What is a Narcissist? They are related to sociopaths, and both of these disorders produce manipulating and abusive behavior. Abuse comes in many forms and affects many people in the victim’s life. Emotional, physical, and sexual abuses are common and equally degrading and harmful. They are ALL abuse. How do you spot one? One of the first signs of a narcissist or sociopath is they get people to feel sorry for them. In hindsight, their stories are unbelievable, but their initially charming personalities draw people in. Once they’ve won you over, the mask comes off and they denigrate their victims, devalue and demean them. It’s incredibly difficult to get away from a narcissist or a sociopath. Believe it or not, you have likely encountered one either in your family, your neighborhood, or your workplace. Blindfolds, Guilt, and Getting Help Lindsey felt she went through her own divorce with a blindfold on, and experienced incredible guilt over what was happening with her children. She started writing through her pain and shared her story which actually helps other women. Knowing that you’re not alone and that others have been through the same thing is a beautiful gift for others. So her pain is helping to heal other people. Women are taught to be nurturers. Sometimes, though, they over nurture. When they want to do something for themselves, they feel guilty. Setting boundaries in place and saying “I deserve better,” provides a healthier perspective. Women need to realize that it is impossible to nurture a narcissist enough. Narcissists are attracted to over givers. That’s where they get the gasoline for their ego. Someone who falls in love with a narcissist is frequently a co-dependent person. They don’t require many things of people and give away too much to someone who hasn’t earned it. Listen to the podcast for additional insight…AND listen to Lindsey read her story of the worst Mother’s Day ever (and what she did about it). Take Home Message (listen to the podcast for the full scoop): Don’t make compromises until you are in a safe and healthy relationship. That includes your relationships with friends, family, and even children. Teach your kids NOT to be narcissists…by having boundaries and calling them on their behavior.
