Welcome back to the podcast, I'm Jamie Baynes. Recently I got an email from a publicist asking if I'd like to interview an author who's written seven novels, with another due to be released soon. Anyone who knows me can already guess what my answer was. Absolutely I would. So, we coordinated the time and date and it's my pleasure to introduce you to Elle Marr. Sit back, relax and I hope you enjoy our conversation. After you listen, I have a question. Have you ever met someone and from the first few sentences they speak, you know that you're going to enjoy talking to them? That's how I felt talking with Elle. She's such a down to earth and funny person, the interview just flew by. Make sure you check out her new book, The Lie She Wears, when it's released, then head out to your bookstore or go to her website and catch up on her previous books. There's a lot to choose from. Check out her website here ⬇️⬇️⬇️https://ellemarr.com/I'd like to thank Elle for being a guest and thank you for tuning in. Until next time, take care of one another and thanks for listening.

Elle shares how she built a propulsive plot full of twists, why she cut the romance from her early drafts, and the moment every reader gasps halfway through her book.We also talk about her recent reads — from The Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins to twisty thrillers by Yasmine Ango and Brianna Labuskes — plus what makes a good surprise ending work.

Andrew Marr says he thought Labour would fix everything, but: "I was wrong".--Andrew Marr is stepping down as political editor of the New Statesman. In this, his last regular podcast appearance (he'll be back, don't worry!) he reflects on the last three years in politics - and where we're heading next.He admits committing "the journalistic sin" of optimism when Keir Starmer was elected, and addresses criticism he's faced from media colleagues on both the left and right of the political divide. He explains why he believes the Labour party is failing the country.Speaking to Tom McTague, Marr also looks to the future and explores the likelihood of a Nigel Farage-led Reform government, the rise of Zack Polanski's Green Party and whether a coalition could be on the cards for the next election.READ: I thought Labour would fix everything. The Pretenders, The The, Modest Mouse, The Cribs, Electronic og selvfølgelig The Smiths. Playliste: The Smiths - This charming man The Smiths - The boy with a thorn in his side The Smiths - Some girls are bigger than others Quando Quango - Atom rock Everything But The Girl - Native land The Pretenders - Windows of the World Talking Heads - (Nothing but) flowers The The - The (beat)en generation Electronic - Getting away with it Electronic - Tighten up Kirsty MacColl - Walking down Madison Pet Shop Boys - Decadence Black Grape - Fat neck M People - Rhythm and blues 7 Worlds Collide - There is a light that never goes out Pet Shop Boys - You choose Oasis - (Probably) all in the mind Johnny Marr + The Healers - Down on the corner Modest Mouse - Dashboard The Cribs - We share the same skies Hans Zimmer - Dream is collapsing Johnny Marr - New town velocity Pharrell Williams - Here Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - The ballad of the mighty I Billie Eilish - No time to die Johnny Marr - Hi hello

Send us a textThis week Lou & DJ Paulie dive deep into the music history you won't hear anywhere else, featuring The "Taboo Tracks" Top 10 Countdown. We're exploring smash hits that became controversial over time, often reflecting shifting cultural sensitivities or due to the artists themselves growing to hate their own songs. Listen in as we unpack the reasons why chart-toppers like Pat Benatar's "Hit Me with Your Best Shot", The Rolling Stones' "Brown Sugar", Heart's "All I Want to Do Is Make Love to You", and The Who's "Pinball Wizard" have been dropped from live set lists.Plus, tune in for a brand new segment: "Bad Band Breakups" with Todd Snyder! Todd runs down the legendary breakups, bad blood, and bad decisions that split iconic groups. Hear the untold stories behind the implosions of bands like The Beatles (Yoko Ono's influence and the legal battles), Oasis (the violent sibling rivalry), The Smiths (Morrissey vs. Marr), and Pink Floyd (Roger Waters' attempts to legally dissolve the band). We also squeeze in our favorite segments, including:• Stupid Criminals (Busted): Featuring tales of a man calling 911 because his mom didn't wash his clothes, a drunk driver crashing into a "Drive Sober" sign, and the woman who followed a sergeant in a stolen driver's education car because she "just wanted to see where he was going".• Random Facts: Did you know that a female ferret can die if she goes into heat and can't find a mate? Or that the oldest major soft drink in America is Dr. Pepper?• Bad Dates: Brace yourself for stories involving nipple piercings that "taste like house keys", sudden herpes confessions, and dating surveillance by an accompanying bodyguard.Catch the Back in Time Brothers every Monday on URL radio www.urlradio.net! and you can listen back anytime at www.backtimebrothers.comSupport the showThanks for listening. In this thought-provoking episode of "Father and Joe," hosts Father Boniface and Joe Rockey delve into the complexities of understanding and applying Jesus' two greatest commandments, especially focusing on the challenge of loving one's neighbor. Our hosts begin by exploring the often-paraphrased commandments: loving God with all your being and loving your neighbor as yourself, often quoted as the 'Golden Rule.' This conversation illuminates the common misinterpretation of these commandments as being overly simplistic, highlighting the intricacies involved in genuinely understanding and implementing them in our lives.Joe candidly shares his struggle with the application of the second commandment, especially when personal preferences and expectations do not align with those of others. This is a common modern-day challenge, especially apparent within the context of relationships and marriage, where different personal desires can lead to miscommunication and misunderstandings. Father Boniface provides profound insight into this dilemma, reminding us that these commandments are derived from the Old Testament but find their full meaning through Jesus' life and teachings. The discussion takes a more profound turn as Father Boniface introduces the new commandment given by Jesus at the Last Supper: "Love one another as I have loved you." This statement elevates the concept of love to a divine level, setting Jesus' life as the benchmark for how love should be expressed—through selfless, sacrificial acts that are not bound by mere duty or superficial niceties. The dialogue ventures into how this divine love correlates with the Paschal mystery, emphasizing that true love demands sacrifice, echoes the crucifixion, and transcends everyday preferences. The episode transitions into practical spirituality by exploring how to set realistic goals for loving others as Jesus does. Despite the challenges inherent in this path, our hosts encourage listeners to embrace their journey with honesty and openness to transformation. Joe reflects on the staggering potential of adopting Jesus' model of love, imagining its impact on his personal life and relationships. Father Boniface further explains that the Christian journey is not about immediate perfection but a lifelong commitment to growth, guided and sustained by the grace found in the sacraments and the community of the church. As the conversation wraps up, listeners are invited to introspect and evaluate where they stand in the continuum of divine love. Father Boniface gently urges everyone to envision a life perfected in divine love, a journey fueled by grace and sustained by a steadfast desire to love like Christ. Together, they highlight that while this path demands patience and perseverance, it ultimately leads to profound spiritual fulfillment and a deeper understanding of God's boundless love for humanity.Hashtags: #DivineLove, #SpiritualGrowth, #ChristianLiving, #TwoCommandments, #GoldenRule, #JesusTeachings, #LoveYourNeighbor, #ScriptureUnderstanding, #SacrificialLove, #LastSupper, #PaschalMystery, #SpiritualDirection, #Grace, #ChristianFaith, #SelflessLove, #MarriageChallenges, #ChristianRelationships, #DailyLifeProblems, #SpiritualInsight, #DivineCommandments, #OldTestament, #NewTestament, #LoveLikeJesus, #SpiritualTransformation, #FatherBonifaceHicks, #JoeRockey, #FatherAndJoePodcast, #UnderstandingGod, #BuildingFaith, #RelationshipWithGod, #ReligiousTeachings, #FaithConversations, #SpiritualFulfillment, #Sacraments, #ChurchCommunity, #ChristianJourneyThis line is here to correct the site's formatting error.

Xiao-Jing Wang is a Distinguished Global Professor of Neuroscience at NYU Xiao-Jing was born and grew up in China, spent 8 years in Belgium studying theoretical physics like nonlinear dynamical systems and deterministic chaos. And as he says it, he arrived from Brussels to California as a postdoc, and in one day switched from French to English, from European to American culture, and physics to neuroscience. I know Xiao-Jing as a legend in non-human primate neurophysiology and modeling, paving the way for the rest of us to study brain activity related cognitive functions like working memory and decision-making. He has just released his new textbook, Theoretical Neuroscience: Understanding Cognition, which covers the history and current research on modeling cognitive functions from the very simple to the very cognitive. The book is also somewhat philosophical, arguing that we need to update our approach to explaining how brains function, to go beyond Marr's levels and enter a cross-level mechanistic explanatory pursuit, which we discuss. I just learned he even cites my own PhD research, studying metacognition in nonhuman primates - so you know it's a great book. Learn more about Xiao-Jing and the book in the show notes.
