Welcome to Zimmerman Podcast episode 79. Today, I’m sitting down with Lindsey Meyer of Lindsey Meyer Art. If you don’t know her from her signature colorful artwork and rugs, then you might know her as my very best friend Lily from my book, Sleeping with a Stranger. Today, Lindsey and I are dishing about some of the stories in the book, what it was like growing up together, and what our real-life friendship looks like. Episode 79 Topics: - How Lindsey expanded her business from painting to rug design - How to balance motherhood and a meaningful business journey - How Lindsey runs a killer business with her creative brain - What it looks like to show up for a thirty-year friendship Episode 79 Product Picks: BeeKeeper’s Naturals In October 2019, I decided to write the entire first draft of my book in like... five days. It was intense. I knew I needed to be laser focused for those four days, so you better believe I loaded up on my Beekeeper’s Naturals goodies every day that week! I took the B. Powered superfood honey to improve my focus and keep me alert. I also took a BLIXR vial each morning to clear out that brain fog. Truthfully, two years ago I never could have written this book in four days. I didn’t have the mental clarity or the energy to do it. But my Beekeeper’s honey keeps me fueled and fog-free, and I can definitely notice a difference on the days I forget to take it. If you want to try out some of my favorite Beekeeper’s Naturals products, and get 15% off, go to zimmermanpodcast.com/bee Sleeping with a Stranger Sleeping with a Stranger is officially available everywhere books are sold in hardcover, paperback, ebook, and audiobook. Since the book’s launch, I’ve been amazed by how it has been received. From being named a best seller by USA Today, the Wall Street Journal, Amazon and Barnes & Noble to incredibly personal and touching reviews from my amazing readers, it’s been such a wild journey! Here’s one of my favorite reviews… “I love the honesty of this book. It is real and raw and doesn't hold back; and that is why it is so mesmerizing. I could relate on so many levels and I know it must've been so hard to write about many of these very personal and taboo topics. I couldn't put the book down, it was such an easy and enlightening read. I highly recommend this to anyone who is soul searching or just looking for some perspective. Truth is better than fiction!” I can’t wait to share this story with you! To get your copy, go to jessicazimmerman.com today or wherever books are sold. Lindsey Boyd is the co-founder of The Laundress, a premium collection of eco-friendly laundry and home cleaning products. Before starting the company, Lindsey was working in high-end fashion in NY as a manager of Chanel’s Ready-to-Wear division. While working in the industry, Lindsey noticed a real need and void in the market. Although consumers were willing to spend a lot of money on their clothes, they were spending even more money on dry cleaning - which was not only toxic but also damaging to their garments. After years of researching and understanding how detergents work, Lindsey and her college friend turned business partner, Gwen Whiting, decided to launch eco-friendly detergents that were gentle enough to be used at home on dry-clean only items. They bootstrapped, crowdfunded and took a small SBA loan to launch their business For years the company struggled to make a profit, but they eventually grew a cult and loyal following, and in 2019, sold to Unilever for a reported $100 million dollars. Lindsey founded Owl Venice in 2016 and started with skincare products before developing her organic bone broth recipes. Bone broth has been around for centuries - every culture has its own version (ramen, phu, grandma's chicken noodle soup, etc.). Bone broth includes gelatin, glucosamine, and collagen. These are beneficial for your gut health, joints, hair, skin, brain function, sleep, and overall immunity. Bone broth mimics the lining of the gut wall, helping to repair any damage that has been done to the gut. Owl Venice offers organic vegan bone broth that is still great for immunity and gut health. Lindsey Cunningham is the Co-founder and CEO of RollinGreens, a brand that offers tasty, plant-based, clean label food. She was born into an entrepreneurial family in Scarsdale, New York and grew up with the dream of having her own restaurant. She is persistent, passionate and a risk taker. Lindsey graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder with a BS in Journalism Broadcast News. After two summers at NBC, she listened to her childhood dream and started the RollinGreens food truck with her now husband, Ryan Cunningham. 10 years later, RollinGreens has thrived and expanded with a line of plant based frozen alternatives in more than 1800 stores nationwide. Their offerings include millet tots, cauliflower wings, and currently in the midst of launching their first shelf stable products. Here’s a glimpse of what you’ll learn: What inspired Lindsey to enter the food industry through a food truck The type of food Lindsey and her husband offers to their customers How Lindsey found a co-packer for her millet tots, got into to Whole Foods, and later entered other retail stores How Lindsey expanded her line of products from her first millet tots to her current SKUs How RollinGreens differentiates itself from other frozen food brands and why they decided to make their products shelf-stable How COVID-19 has impacted Lindsey's business The biggest challenge Lindsey faced in growing her business and how she's looking to fund it The target market for RollinGreens' products How Lindsey's background in journalism helped in growing her business and how they are positioning themselves with a different buying team Lindsey gives advice to fellow entrepreneurs on how to run a business and debunks the myth that healthy, natural food doesn’t sell in Walmart In this episode… Millet is such an underutilized yet nutrient-dense whole grain that many people don't know about. It’s actually used for bird feed and people do not realize just how healthy it is for humans. In an effort to not just educate people about its health benefits but to also provide health and nutritious food alternatives, Lindsey Cunningham and her husband, Ryan, started a food truck business selling millet tots. They had an abundant supply of millet from Colorado farmers, which they took advantage of and soon their products were on the shelves of Whole Foods. In this episode of Nexxt Level Brands, Lindsey Cunningham gets interviewed by Steve Cleere where she shares her journey of growing her natural, plant-based food brand with her husband Ryan. She talks about her family's history in the food truck business, where she sources her millet grain, the health benefits of this particular grain, and why entrepreneurs need to be persistent in growing and scaling their businesses. She and I are chatting about faith-based books and faith-based marketing. When she looks back over the years of her career, she can see how purposeful her path has been to bring her to the present. About 19 years ago, she started her career in the corporate marketing world, working in business management, project management, and marketing for a Fortune 500 company. She loved her job; however, she made the decision to leave her career and stay at home because of personal events. Being in the corporate world was not life-giving to her. Lindsey identifies this time as "having my identity stripped away." For the last ten years, she has been seeking out her skills and gifts to ultimately mesh these in a career to honor God, honor family, and staying at home. As a creative, she sees the world through a lens of beauty and creation. Through writing, she was able to tap into wounds and hurt growing up and really find a way for hope, healing, and purpose in those moments for other people. After reflecting, she pulled all her work off the internet. Instead, she wanted to leave a legacy and to inspire people the hope that she had found. Through this journey, she became connected with online branding, organizations, speakers, and other authors. She noticed that while they were talented writers, they didn't understand the marketing world. Listen in to find out why the biggest challenge is to find out how to identify your message, her clients' biggest struggle, and how she gives her clients a shift in mindset. Lindsey Freysinger is a German/Austrian blonde haired, blued eyed beauty who became a pediatric nurse at the ambitiously young age of 21. She was doing her residency in Texas to pursue a Masters degree in Anesthesia, when she was injured in a car accident that led her to become a C-5 Incomplete Quadriplegic. After her injury, she planned on returning to nursing, but found that there was not adequate accommodations for someone with a severe disability in the nursing field. So, she decided to change course and get a Masters degree in Nurse Leadership instead. She is now pursuing her doctorate in Nurse Leadership, with a focus on educating healthcare providers on caring for people with disabilities. “I was horrified at what, as a nurse, I didn’t know about healthcare for people with disabilities” Lindsey aspires to help people with disabilities, like our PUSHLiving audience, on living a life of wellness through what she calls “the social determinates of health”. Lindsey’s journey from blogging to writing her book, Powerhouse Woman, and how she “accidentally” fell into creating the Powerhouse Women brand. The importance of sharing both the good and the bad parts of the entrepreneurship journey, especially with women. How Lindsey realized her “dream job” out of college could be easily expendable during the beginning of a recession, pushing her to look for plan B. How knowing what motivates you can help decide when it’s the right time to jump ship and go all in on your dreams. Manufacturing urgency, and why Lindsey puts herself into different accountability structures to keep her moving and forward. The importance of investing in ourselves. Hustle vs. Flow State and why Lindsey made the conscious choice to focus fully on her 2nd business. Lindsey’s “aha moment” that allowed her to disconnect her identity from her business. The 2 biggest roadblocks women are experiencing when trying to step out of their comfort zones, and how “powerhouse women” can overcome those obstacles. How to cultivate self-confidence, which in turn leads to freedom from our fears and breaks our safety nets. Why taking action to pursue things we are curious about either opens a new door for us or directs us. www.brenttieri.com www.lindseyschwartz.com
Join us for a conversation with REAL mom Lindsey Camp and hear her story about how she decluttered her home. Lindsey started off by watching the Minimalist documentary on Netflix and then asked if anyone knew of a support group or how to apply the same concepts to a regular mom. Love you Minimalists but mama's need to take a different path toward simplicity, right?! Lindsey's story is powerful as she talks about her life before she decluttered and how overwhelmed and tired she was and how she can now take a pole class twice a week, relax with her husband and let her kids be free range kids like she always wanted them to be (instead of constantly worried about what they were getting into and if they would get hurt.) How her relationship with money has changed, and her best tip for someone on the fence about whether or not they should declutter or not. IN THIS EPISODE WE TALK ABOUT .... How Lindsey got started on her decluttering process, her struggles and hesitations and HOW she got past them ...the benefits she has experienced because of her decluttering ...she shares her truth about the big mindset shifts she's experienced in her motherhood and how her clutter is not a part of that. As an English major and Benjamin Franklin Honors Scholar, I continued devouring every book and magazine I could get my hands on and dreaming up stories (most of which didn’t take place along the Oregon Trail). Post-college, I shipped out to bucolic Vermont to teach creative writing and Pilates to high school kids at a summer arts camp. There, I picked blueberries, ran across rolling hills, and realized I was not nearly mature enough to be teaching anyone much of anything. And so I moved to Manhattan and broke into magazine publishing, starting at Glamour and then moving on to Redbook and next Self, where I was Features Editor. I worked on stories about relationships and sex, parenting, social activism, career and finances, and well-being; I interviewed the occasional V.I.P. (including Michelle Obama and both Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton, a.k.a. Coach and Mrs. Taylor for Friday Night Lights fans); and I gathered material for what would eventually become my debut novel, PRETTY IN INK. After nearly a decade in publishing, I decided I was finally ready to try my hand at teaching again. So I waved goodbye to magazines and began my Master’s of English Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. I took classes on Shakespeare and adolescent literature, and talked books with teenagers. I then joined the faculty of NEST+m, a Manhattan public high school, as the A.P. Literature and Creative Writing teacher, plus advisor of the literary magazine, the yearbook, and National Honor Society. During my three years of teaching, I aspired to be a slightly more down-to-earth reincarnation of my favorite fictional teacher, Miss Jean Brody. These days, I work as a scriptwriter at BrainPOP, an animated educational site for kids. I spend my days researching topics as diverse as Nuclear Fusion, Emily Dickinson, and the Tuskegee Airmen, and then translating what I’ve learned into an engaging, narrative format. My scripts get made into short films to be shown in classrooms grades 4-10, nationwide and around the world. I live in Brooklyn, NY with my husband and 1-year-old daughter. Lindsey Hein, is the podcast host of the “I’ll Have Another” Podcast. Lindsey and I cover being runner moms, running while pregnant and restarting post delivery, and the timing of having your kids. The main focus of this podcast is a discussion about how you might want to start your own podcast on a subject that most interests you and how to grow it. We go over how Lindsey came up with the idea for her podcast, how she researched the style of other podcast hosts to learn how she wanted to build her interviewing style. Listening to different styles teaches you a lot about how different hosts have changed and matured over the years. If you have wanted to grow your personal social media presence, this episode is full of tips that you can use as you follow your dream. Today’s Guest Lindsey Hein is a mom runner of three little boys with another little boy on the way. With all of that she finds time to also act as an RRCA Certified running coach and the producer and host of the “I’ll Have Another” podcast series. Lindsey began running Cross Country in high school at the urging of a friend. She has run 13 marathons and a Half Ironman Triathlon. She lives in Indianapolis with her husband and growing family. What you will learn about: Does Lindsey find having multiple children adds to the chaos in her house as each one is added or does it get easier? How her sons reacted when they learned the new baby on the way was another boy How running has changed with each pregnancy and her advice for other women trying to run while expecting. Did she feel pressure to keep running with each baby? How to find alternative ways to manage the stress that running used to help you deal with. How Social Media gets in our heads and drives our behavior rather than trusting ourselves to do what works for us. How her podcast has become more running focused over the years but is a place for casual conversations with people she is interested in learning about. How to get over being nervous when interviewing guests. Focus on what you think your listeners want to hear from this person and what you want to learn from them. How to find your focus, learn from others, and doing what brings you joy. You need to be in the moment. How Lindsey loves meeting her guests but truly loves connecting with her audience. How it is a special feeling to know that people are appreciating her passion. The people are the best part of this job. Shamelessly reach out to people you want to have on your show or who you think your guests want to hear from. Be persistent. But make it a personal request, it has to be individualized and genuine. Be consistent, if you say your podcast will be out on a given day of the week, make sure you honor that. Even if it means a solo episode. Lindsey tells us the favorite things she has learned from some of her guests. Inspirational Quotes: We think that time is passing us by but for many of us, our fastest times are a bit later in our life. Take the pressure off and know that your hard work does pay off. We are all unique and need to focus on our own life and not compare. Just do you. If you are going to start a passion project, you just have to start it, not worry about whether it will make you money. Hone in on your passion. Don’t let one specific passion define your life. it is what you do, not who you are. I am incredibly excited to have my friend and fellow health coach slash healthy living pal, Lindsey Smith, on the show. Lindsey has a long list of accomplishments under her belt included being a published author, speaker, coach, and inspirational rapper. (That is not a typo.) And while all of that is amazing (and it truly IS amazing), the most impressive thing about Lindsey that I've witnessed in the 8+ years I've know her is her power to create magic in her life. So when Lindsey agreed to peel back the curtain and let me pick her brain about manifestation and how she creates magic every single day, I jumped at the chance. I hope you enjoy getting to know Lindsey in a new way through this conversation and that it helps to connect some dots in your own life between thoughts and feelings and bringing them into reality. I’d love to hear from you! What stood out most from Lindsey’s interview? What do you think about her perspective around manifestation and creating magic in her own life? Topics Discussed: An introduction to Lindsey Smith and what she does Lindsey's path to becoming and author The power of faith and trust when it comes to manifesting From thoughts to reality and how that shows up for Lindsey Knowing when to push for something and when to sit back and wait How Lindsey goes from inspiration to manifestation in her daily life Why people aren't good at manifesting (hint: it has everything to do with feelings) The scary nature of feelings and why we avoid them, good or bad How Lindsey first started manifesting as a child and some examples from childhood The power of intuition, taking inspired action, and belief in the process Why Lindsey says that visualization was a huge part of the manifestation puzzle as a kid The world as a mirror and how it reflects back to us what we're thinking and feeling Combatting self-doubt and getting back to a place of openness and balance What to do when past stories and emotions come up How the experiences in our lives can teach us multiple things over time Why Lindsey says that she wants to live in the grey Lindsey’s definition of everyday magic and how it shows up in her life Connect with Lindsey Smith online: Website Twitter Instagram Facebook Resource Links: Eat Your Feelings* Junk Foods & Junk Moods* Challenge 24 (now 24 Game) Hit me up: Twitter: @emilylevenson and #somekindofmagic Instagram: @emilylevenson and #somekindofmagic FB Page: Emily Levenson * This is an affiliate link.
Green Dreamer: Sustainability and Regeneration From Ideas to Life
How can we go from having an ecopreneurial idea, especially something that's not yet been done before, to bringing it to life? What do we need to really tackle the issue of plastic pollution all over the world and move into a more circular economy? Today, Plaine Products' Co-Founder, Lindsey McCoy shares her wisdom with us. HIGHLIGHTS: [5:30] Lindsey: "It is a continual learning journey. Still, we're learning, tweaking, ... I think that's part of being an entrepreneur... constant problem solving, ... when something's not working out the way you thought it was going to, being able to let go and figure out how to adjust." [06:20] Something that didn't work out for Plaine Products that they had to tweak. [06:55] How Lindsey raised awareness for her brand. [13:50] Lindsey: "Something that you're going to use once for a few minutes but will stick around for hundreds of years... just doesn't make sense when there are other options out there." [14:15] Lindsey: "My motto is progress, not perfection... life happens." [17:25] Lindsey: "Instead of asking why organic food is so expensive, maybe we should be asking why non-organic food so cheap." But Why Is This Interview On a Financial Advising Site? We are financial planners. So, why is a financial advisor not only talking about the stock market and wise investment options? Great question. While we are absolutely interested in the financial success of our clients and growing their wealth, we believe we have failed as an organization if we have not equally led them to a more fulfilled life. A better quality of living is so much more than excess of wealth and we've witnessed too many people strive to reach their goals and ultimately feel empty. Lindsey shared how he chased success but only found satisfaction when he realigned priorities. We want to help you create the life that allows you to invest in what you love and enjoy those who matter most. We believe in "quality of life" and that growing your wealth for the only purposes of aCQuiring more won't lead you to feeling fulfilled. It is one of the greatest joys of our business to meet with clients, hear their dreams, and then see them live out a plan to achieve their goals. We are More Than Money because we believe in you enjoying your life AND growing your wealth. This interview hopefully reminds you to have an honest look at why your chasing success. This special episode has two career coaching sessions, the first with Nick and the second with Lindsey. Both Nick and Lindsey are searching for a way to use their passions and to share their gifts with the world. Nick’s session focuses on his spirituality and whether or not his current position allows him to elevate the consciousness of others with his law practice. Lindsey’s session concentrates on her transitions and her indecisiveness around using her creativity to reach her end goal. Lessons from both calls are that we don’t need to leave jobs that are not creative enough; we can be creative and passionate in our current situations. If we honor where we are now by embracing our passions and our spirituality, we will end up spreading light to others. If you yearn to make more of an impact in your work life, drastic changes to satiate your desires are unnecessary and often cause additional discomfort. Increasing our vibrations will make everything we do a more spiritual experience. Coaching Session #1 - Nick While Listening to this Call Consider/Ask Yourself: Do you feel a calling to make an impact? Are you in a job that does not seem spiritual enough and you feel inclined towards doing something different? Do you feel like you are compromising and paying your dues now in order to gain financial security? Are you actively spreading light where you are or are you waiting for better circumstances? Nick’s Question: Nick wants to integrate spirituality into his current life but doesn’t want to break his life to fix it. Nick’s Key Insights and Aha’s: ● He may be a light worker in the subtle sense ● He doesn’t have to change what he’s doing to make a difference ● He could focus on being and interacting with people How Nick can get over it and on with it: ● Honor his calling to spread light through his existing work ● Bring more consciousness into what he is doing ● Try deepening his vibration when communicating with others in his work ● Try the 25/5 rule of working for 25 minutes and taking 5 to do something you enjoy doing Tools and Takeaways: ● Become dedicated to your spiritual practice in your work ● Consider bringing beauty into your work environment ● Ask God on a daily basis to use you and pay attention to opportunities that may arise from it ● Implement practices that reconnect you to your higher power Coaching Session #2 - Lindsey While Listening to this Call Consider/Ask Yourself: ● Do you feel apathetic or stuck in your current career? ● Are you craving more creativity and passion in your life? ● Do you put a lot of pressure on yourself to figure everything out at once? Lindsey’s Question: Lindsey is having a hard time figuring out if her job transition was the right thing to do and if she should continue investing in her passion, music. Lindsey’s Key Insights and Aha’s: ● She loves helping children with crafts ● She needs more of the creative aspect in her job ● She should focus on the next steps and not the end goal How Lindsey can get over it and on with it: ● Lindsey could listen to her intuition in order to be more creative ● She should honor this phase of her life ● Ask her higher power to show her the people and situations she can serve Tools and Takeaways: ● Ask yourself what is the next step, not the end goal ● Honor where you are and allow your passions to unfold ● Don’t expect a job to make you feel creative or passionate Resources: Christine Hassler @christinhassler
Hello everyone and welcome back to another episode of Within the Trenches. This will be the last episode in a series recorded at the 2015 Indiana NENA/APCO conference and expo a few weeks ago. I had a great time there and I hope everyone who was on the show or attended my class enjoyed it too. I met a lot of new people, visited with good friends and just had an all around good time. There is never a dull moment with the crew from Indiana. In this episode I got the chance to speak with Lindsey, dispatcher with Fulton County 911 and her mom Lori, training coordinator with INdigital and former PSAP director. This episode was a lot of fun to record. It was the first time that I have ever had a mother/daughter episode and they hit one out of the park. This is a must listen so check it out and share. As always if you have any questions or would like to be a guest on the show, you can send an email to wttpodcast@gmail.com.
