Nicole Ari Parker is stepping into the DC Universe. The actress, best known for her role in HBO's And Just Like That, has been cast in a recurring role in Lanterns, the upcoming HBO drama centered on the Green Lantern Corps. Parker will portray Bernadette, the mother of John Stewart (Aaron Pierre), one of the two central Green Lanterns in the series.HBO describes Bernadette as “formidable and tenacious,” a woman who has spent her life ensuring her family is not left behind. She is fiercely protective of her son, a trait that will likely shape John Stewart's journey in the show. The series follows John Stewart and Hal Jordan (played by Kyle Chandler), two members of the Green Lantern Corps, an elite intergalactic force tasked with maintaining order across the cosmos. Their power stems from special rings that grant superhuman abilities, making them one of the most formidable forces in the DC Universe.Lanterns is significant for DC Studios as it marks the first live-action series developed under the leadership of co-chairmen and co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran. The show received a straight-to-series order in June, securing an eight-episode season with True Detective: Night Country and Ozark showrunner Chris Mundy at the helm.In addition to Parker and the lead duo, the cast includes Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, and Ulrich Thomsen, who will portray the iconic Green Lantern antagonist Sinestro. This isn't the first time Green Lanterns have appeared in live-action. Hal Jordan was famously played by Ryan Reynolds in the 2011 Green Lantern film, though that adaptation was widely criticized. Meanwhile, John Stewart has long been a fan-favorite in the comics and animated series but has yet to receive a proper live-action portrayal. His inclusion in Lanterns marks a significant moment, as Stewart was one of DC's first Black superheroes and a key figure in Green Lantern lore.DC's live-action universe is undergoing a major transition. Nathan Fillion has been cast as another Green Lantern, Guy Gardner, in Gunn's upcoming Superman film, slated for a July release. With Lanterns, HBO is set to bring a detective-style drama to the Green Lantern mythos, a tone Gunn previously described as inspired by True Detective. As of now, HBO has not announced an official release date for Lanterns. Meanwhile, Nicole Ari Parker will also return for Season 3 of And Just Like That, set to premiere later this year. What We Know About LanternsA New Era for Green Lantern

Consider yourself warned and bear in mind the images in question have not been officially released and are in their very nature, conceptual, so everything discussed should be considered with a healthy amount of scrutiny and discernment. On the same coin, if the leaks are to be taken seriously, the pieces potentially reveal major plot points and crucial information. Potential spoilers in 3, 2, 1…HBO celebrated and announced the commencing of production on its Lanterns series last week by revealing our first look at stars Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler, as Jon Stewart and Hal Jordan, respectively. The image showcases our heroes not adorned in the typical attire befitting a Green Lantern, but in regular clothing and walking down an empty road and looking a little worse for wear. Still no word on when exactly we should expect the 8-episode season to air; With Sunday evening's 97th Academy Awards ceremony, the Awards Season has concluded, but the conversation about the show and its winners and losers is just getting started. Host Conan O'Brien ushered the show along in true comedic fashion and by the time the dust settled, Anora ended up dominating the evening with 5 wins total, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actress. The Brutalist, which was considered the odds-on favorite, followed with 3 wins for Cinematography, Score and Best Actor. Dune: Part 2 and Wicked were competitors in the technical categories, with 2 wins each, as was the case for Emilia Perez. Finally, Conclave, A Real Pain, The Substance, Flow and I'm Still Here rounded out the awards with one win each.Supernatural stars Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins will guest star in The Boys' final season, reuniting with former co-star Jensen Ackles who joined in Season 3.Zendaya will voice Shrek's daughter in Shrek 5, while a controversial first-look teaser revealed animation changes to main characters.Oscar Nuñez, who played accountant Oscar Martinez throughout The Office's run, will reprise his character in the upcoming Peacock Office spinoff series.Stranger Things star Jamie Campbell Bower has joined the cast for season 3 of Amazon's The Rings of Power.Matthew Lillard has joined the cast of the second season of Daredevil: Born Again. At this time, there are no details on the character he is playing.Jessica Jones star Krysten Ritter has been cast for a guest arc on the upcoming Showtime Dexter continuation series Dexter: Resurrection.Gene Hackman, two time Oscar winner known for his roles in The French Connection, Unforgiven, The Royal Tenenbaums, and Superman died last week at the age of 95. Both Hackman and his wife were found dead in their home and an investigation is still ongoing.John Jackson Miller's upcoming novel, Batman: Revolution, is set between Tim Burton's 1989 Batman film and its 1992 sequel, Batman Returns. This installment introduces the Riddler, a character Burton had originally envisioned for a sequel, with the story focusing on Norman Pinkus, a brilliant but overlooked copy boy who transforms into the enigmatic villain. As tensions rise in Gotham City, Batman faces a new adversary who challenges him with a perilous game of riddles, uncovering hidden secrets about the city's past that could have dire consequences for its future. In an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live executive producer and director of AppleTV+ series Severance Ben Stiller revealed that he originally asked former President Barack Obama to voice the narration of Lumon's puppet propaganda video in season two. Obama responded that he could not fit it in his schedule, so Stiller opted to go with Keanu Reeves instead.

We also chat about the pending debut of Daredevil:  Born Again, the newly released image of Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and how Stephe believes The Marvels is an underrated title in the MCU. We both still hate The Eternals. This one goes deep.  We rattle off the names of a LOT of Green Lanterns.  Be forewarned. We, of course, play "What's on Your Desk?" Also, enjoy.

Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universes. The search for Hal Jordan's counterpart in the DCU series Lanterns is over as Aaron Pierre has been cast as John Stewart. Pierre won out against other frontrunner Stephen James after screen tests with Hal Jordan actor Kyle Chandler. The John Stewart character from comics holds a lot of weight as it was one of DC's first Black superheroes and is a fan favorite. You can catch Pierre in Netflix's Rebel Ridge and M. Night Shyamalan's movie Old. Disney isn't shying away from leaning into the projects that feel like surefire hits right now, and their updated release schedule reflects that. Both the live-action Lilo & Stitch movie and Freakier Friday - reuniting Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis - have 2025 release dates with Stitch coming first in May and the Freaky Friday sequel in August. Excitement follows both films, with Freakier Friday taking a look at a grown-up Anna, played by Lohan, and Lilo & Stitch featuring a blend of live-action and CGI that will feature original Stitch actor, Chris Sanders. Fandango announced that Wicked pre-sales, which went live last week for the November 22 release, are only second this year behind pre-sales of Deadpool & Wolverine. This also puts Wicked at the highest for advance ticket sales this year for a PG-rated movie and the third of all time in that category, standing up against Disney films Frozen II and 2019's The Lion King. Daniel Ezra who previously starred in Netflix's All American has joined the cast of Paramount and Edgar Wright's The Running Man and will star alongside Glen Powell and Katy O'Brien. Henry Cavill has signed on to star in Voltron for Amazon MGM Studios, a live action film based on the 1980s animated TV series that followed a team of space explorers who pilot a giant super robot known as Voltron and was adapted from several Japanese anime TV series from Toei Animation. Hit Netflix rom com series Nobody Wants This starring Adam Brody and Kristen Bell has been renewed for a second season. Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan who executive produced HBO's Girls have come on board as executive producers and showrunners for Season 2. Horror slasher Terrifier 3 opened ahead of expectations this weekend to take the number one spot at the box office, pulling in over $18 million dollars domestically, while Joker 2 had a historic drop off of 81% in its second weekend, only taking in $7 million dollars domestically. Radio Silence Productions is returning for a sequel to 2019 cult horror film Ready or Not. Star of the first film Samara Weaving will return for the sequel and Guy Busick and Ryan Murphy who wrote the original will return to write. AppleTV+ has released the first trailer for Silo season 2 starring Rebecca Ferguson. The series debuts on November 15th. The hunt is on for a host for the upcoming Oscars and sources tell Deadline that the tentative plan is to use an ensemble of rotating hosts and ABC has approached Amy Poehler, Dwayne Johnson, and the duo of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman about hosting the show. AppleTV+ has renewed Gary Oldman led spy drama series Slow Horses for a 6th season. A fifth season renewal was announced earlier this year. Prime Video has released a teaser trailer for season 3 of Invincible and has set Thursday, February 6, 2025 for the season premiere. James Gunn confirmed on social media Tuesday that Krypto the Superdog will feature in his upcoming "Superman" film. The announcement was made in celebration of Adopt a Shelter Dog Month this October. Sony has set a release date for its upcoming Until Dawn video game adaptation film of April 25th, 2025. Until Dawn is directed by David F. Sandberg and was written by Gary Dauberman.

Marvel Studios is truly going all-in on their only feature film this year, Deadpool & Wolverine. According to Variety, the studio plans to push for acknowledgment during awards season submitting for the Golden Globes, SAG Awards, Critics Choice, and even the Oscars. It's Hugh Jackman's performance as Wolverine that is driving this decision, as the studio plans to position the actor for the awards in the supporting actor category. Among other categories, the box office buster will likely find a spot in the Golden Globes' new category of Cinematic and Box Office Achievement. HBO released the first trailer for The Last of Us Season 2 last week. With the melancholy musical theme from Pearl Jam in the background, the trailer shows Joel and Ellie's past catching up to them five years after the events of season one. We also see a lot of new cast members including Danny Ramirez, Jeffrey Wright, and Catherine O'Hara. The Hollywood Reporter learned that DC Studios is developing a villains-centric movie centered around the characters Bane and Deathstroke. While no director has been selected yet, Captain America: Brave New World writer Matthew Orton is working on the script. On the hero side, a new animated film was greenlit and will be called Dynamic Duo - focusing on Dick Grayson and Jason Todd as the Robins in their early years. The feature film will use what's called Momo animation, a blend of CGI, stop-motion, and motion capture. Variety has learned exclusively that Bill Hader and Duffy Boudreau are teaming up to develop a comedy pilot script at HBO. The official logline for the untitled project states, “A woman in a small town has a big secret revealed.” Hader and Boudreau will serve as co-writers and executive producers on the project. Previously, the two collaborated on HBO's Barry. Deadline has learned that Aaron Pierre and Stephan James have emerged as top choices to star alongside Kyle Chandler in Lanterns. The two are in conversations to play John Stewart opposite Chandler's Hal Jordan through sources caution that no offers have officially been made. The Wild Robot took the number one spot at the box office this weekend with a $35 million dollar opening. Elsewhere, Francis Ford Coppola's $120M self-financed Megalopolis tanked as expected with a studio-reported $4M 3-day in 6th place and a D+ Cinemascore. The series will star Florence Pugh, Christopher Abbott, Mike Faist, and Hoon Lee. AppleTV has released the first trailer for the second season of Shrinking starring Jason Segel and Harrison Ford. The 12-episode season premieres October 16 with two episodes, followed by one episode dropping each week until December 25. In this upcoming issue of The Comic Section Podcast, we start with exciting news: RoboCop is heading back to the small screen! Amazon is reviving the beloved sci-fi franchise with a new television series, executive-produced by James Wan. We also cover the bittersweet news for fans of Warrior: the show, initially canceled after three seasons on Max, had its hopes of a fourth season dashed despite streaming on Netflix. Joe Taslim, who played Li Young, shared heartfelt words about the show's impact and its unfortunate end. We then turn our attention to the DC Universe as Friday Night Lights star Kyle Chandler steps into the role of Green Lantern Hal Jordan in DC and HBO's Lanterns series. According to reports, the live-action series is actively casting and preparing for a January 2025 filming start in Atlanta. Additionally, Netflix has announced a collaboration with Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson for a documentary series on Sean "Diddy" Combs, which will explore recent charges and allegations against the music mogul, including sex trafficking and racketeering. Also, Titanic and Avatar director James Cameron is facing backlash after it was announced that he has joined the board of an artificial intelligence start-up. In our "Coming Soon/Preview" segment, we spotlight trailers from Marvel Studios' Thunderbolts, Sinners, Ballerina, and The Last of Us Season Two teaser. Lastly, in our review segment, Jason gives his thoughts on Netflix's Kaos, Rigel reviews Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, and Shawn reviews Rebel Ridge and Twilight of the Gods. Tune in for all the latest pop culture and entertainment updates!

Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universes. Marvel Studios surprised fans with our first official glimpse of the upcoming Thunderbolts* film, by quietly dropping the teaser trailer Monday morning. The footage, set to the tune of Where is My Mind? by The Pixies, features Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova, most heavily, and is in keeping with descriptions that came out of both D23 and San Diego Comic Con earlier this year, along with a few surprises. The search for the DCU's Hal Jordan has finally come to an end, according to sources from The Hollywood Reporter, with Emmy winner Kyle Chandler set to star in the HBO Lanterns series. Chandler's name was not among the top contenders being bandied about the last few weeks, which included the likes of Timothy Olyphant and Chris Pine, as well as Josh Brolin, as we previously reported. The Lanterns series, developed by Ozark's Chris Mundy, Lost's Damon Lindelof and Eisner Award winner Tom King, has often been likened to HBO's True Detective in terms of tone and story. Seems like we've been celebrating more box office wins than losses as of late, but Transformers: One was decidedly less than meets the eye, at least with audiences, as the animated prequel debuted to a soft $25 million, a near franchise low. The muted response may come as a bit of a surprise coming of the heels of strong critic reviews and an A Cinemascore, but neither were enough to dethrone reigning box office champ BeetleJuice BeetleJuice, which just held the top spot, making $26 million in its third week. Last week, Warner Brothers released the first trailer for Mickey 17, Bong Joon Ho's highly anticipated sci-fi film starring Robert Pattinson, Mark Ruffalo, Steven Yeun, Naomie Ackie, and Toni Collette. The film arrives in theaters on January 31, 2025. AMC has canceled Orphan Black: Echoes, after one season. Set in the near future, the sequel series starring Krysten Ritter shared the same world as the BBC cult hit starring Tatiana Maslany. Netflix's One Piece has cast Joe Manganiello as "Mr. 0" and Lera Abova as "Miss All Sunday" for Season 2. Director-writer Jared Bush is replacing Jennifer Lee as chief creative officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios. Lee will return to a filmmaking role at the company and will focus on writing and directing Frozen 3 and executive producing Frozen 4. Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for Squid Game season 2 which begins streaming on December 26th. Netflix announced The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep, an animated film debuting on February 11, 2025, with Doug Cockle reprising his voice role as Geralt of Rivia from the CD Projekt Red video games. An exclusive clip is now available online. Netflix has dropped the first teaser for Splinter Cell: Deathwatch, an animated series adaptation of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell video game created by Ubisoft. Liev Schreiber will voice Sam Fisher, the protagonist of the series. Warner Bros has confirmed that Baz Luhrmann's next feature film at the studio will be Jehanne d'Arc, an epic story about the French teenage military commander Joan of Arc. Tamara Smart is joining Percy Jackson and the Olympians as Thalia Grace, the demigod daughter of Zeus. She'll recur in season two, which is in production and slated for a 2025 premiere. Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi are set to star in Emerald Fennell‘s feature adaptation of Wuthering Heights. MRC has tapped LuckyChap Entertainment to produce the film that is based on author Emily Brontë's classic novel of the same name. Warner Brothers has released the first trailer and poster for Sinners, the Prohibition era horror film from Ryan Coolger starring Michael B. Jordan that has been under wraps for the past year. The film hits theaters on March 7th, 2025. Daveed Diggs has been cast as a series regular for the fifth and final season of Amazon's The Boys.

Here's Julie's list of favorite sports movies. A League of Their Own This is a Satellite Sister Solid Gold choice. This movie has everything: sisters, baseball, Geena Davis, Rosie O”Donnell, Madonna in center field, and Tom Hanks telling the players,” there's no crying in baseball”. Bend It Like Beckham A wonderful coming of age/cultural assimilation/girl power story about Jess Bijam who wants to play soccer like her idol, David Beckham but struggles to respect her traditional Indian family values. And, hello, Keira Knightley plays Jess's friend and David Beckham makes a cute cameo. Bull Durham It's hard to pick my favorite baseball movie but the kitchen scene with Susan Sarandon and Kevin Costner makes Bull Durham my top pick. The movie is about baseball in a very deep way but also has breezy romantic comedy.  Rocky I loved the original Rocky. It's the ultimate underdog movie and has one of the best theme songs ever. Also, Talia Shire shines in the film.  Hoop Dreams An excellent documentary following two young Chicago basketball prospects trying to use their athletic talents to get to a better life. The two stars face racism, poverty, injury and other roadblocks trying to make their dreams come true. The film left me in tears.  Friday Night Lights Watch the original movie with clear eyes and a full heart. Before there was Kyle Chandler as Coach Eric Taylor, there was Billy Bob Thornton and Tim McGraw in a film that follows the coach and players of a high school football team in Odessa, Texas. As a transplant, I am beginning to appreciate what Friday night football means to Texas communities. The film is as much about Texas culture as it is about football.  Bad News Bears Haven't we all been on a team for work or play where you feel like a group of misfits or outcasts? This is a movie about kids who never expect to care about competing or winning. Tatum O'Neal is the 11-year old star pitcher. Walter Matthau as an alcoholic ex-baseball pitcher turned coach is perfect. The ending involves a championship game and a big celebration for the Bears.   Liz's sport movie faves include Robert Redford in Downhill Racer and Bill Murray in Caddyshack! Plus Without Limits, a great T&F movie with Billy Crudup as Steve Prefontaine and Donald Sutherland as Coach Bill Bowerman Lian names the great cycling flick Breaking Away and The Cutting Edge, a skating rom-com that does the sport proud.
