1. HEART OF THE MATTER 1A. Record-Breaking Missionary Numbers — Pres. Oaks at New Mission Leader Seminar At the 2026 Seminar for New Mission Leaders (June 18–21, Provo MTC), President Dallin H. Oaks announced that the Church will soon have the largest number of full-time missionaries in its history, surpassing the current 87,000+ serving worldwide. The surge is driven by the first wave of 18-year-old sister missionaries (following the November policy change lowering the minimum age from 19) and the addition of 55 new missions in July, bringing the global total to 506. President Oaks outlined three characteristics defining the restored Church: (1) the fulness of doctrine (including eternal marriage between a man and a woman); (2) priesthood authority and keys; and (3) a unique testimony of Christ grounded in modern revelation and the First Vision. Sister Kristin Oaks also spoke, sharing six core truths missionaries teach. New Hymn ‘Welcome Home’ — The Story Behind It Composer Andrea Brett explains how a 2017 encounter with Demetrius O’Neal — a recent convert serving as a greeter at a Spokane ward on a snowy Sunday morning — inspired her hymn ‘Welcome Home,’ now published in the new Hymns for Home and Church. Brett submitted 10 pieces when the global hymnbook was announced in 2018; this was the only one she’d written before the call. She received confirmation of its selection in February 2025, then had a full-circle moment when she and O’Neal sat near each other at the April 2025 General Conference as the Tabernacle Choir performed it. O’Neal’s name appears in the hymn’s tune name as a tribute. The hymn is now translated and sung globally. Source: Church Newsroom / Richie’s document 1C. Family History Records Are a ‘Sacred Thread’ — Elder Bragg at International Archivists Congress Elder Mark A. Bragg, General Authority Seventy and executive director of the Church’s Family History Department and FamilySearch International, was a keynote speaker at the III Congress of Archivists: Digital Archive Expo (DA-EXPO), held June 8–12 in Astana, Kazakhstan. He called family history records ‘the thin but sacred thread’ tying people together across generations, and argued that records are ‘in a very real sense, witnesses.’ Elder Bragg framed the digital revolution in genealogy in moral terms: for most of history, access to records was shaped by ‘proximity, resources and specialized knowledge,’ but today a record created in one place can be preserved in another, indexed in a third, and discovered by someone on the other side of the world. ‘The reach is astonishing. The speed is breathtaking. The possibilities are almost beyond measure.’ He also said that ‘access is an act of kindness’ — records only fulfill their divine purpose when they are found, understood, and used. His core message: preserving memory is an act of hope. ‘It says that the past is not dead to us and that the future deserves more than fragments.’ Source: Church News, June 17, 2026 Angle: Great ‘quiet but meaningful’ story — LDS family history going global and leveling the playing field for genealogy worldwide. 1D. America Gives — All 50 States Receive Food Donations The Church completed a milestone in its ‘America Gives’ initiative by delivering a shipping container of food to Hilo, Hawaii — marking all 50 states reached. The initiative aims to deliver 250 truckloads of food nationwide in 2026 to celebrate the U.S. 250th anniversary. In Hawaii, the food went to The Food Basket, distributed to 10 local nonprofits. Notably, 42% of residents on the island of Hawaii face food insecurity — the state’s highest rate. Rosie Rios, chair of America 250 and former U.S. Treasurer, praised the milestone. Local Methodist pastor Ted Lesnett said recipients will know ‘when they were hungry, someone cared.’ Source: Church Newsroom / Richie’s document 1E. Church Donates $250,000 NZD to Christchurch Anglican Cathedral Rebuild The Church announced a NZ$250,000 donation (June 19, 2026) toward the restoration of Christchurch’s iconic Anglican Cathedral — damaged in the February 2011 earthquake. Elder Peter F. Meurs (Pacific Area President) and Anglican Bishop Peter Carrell presided at the announcement. The donation comes as the project faces a $45M funding shortfall and an overall $219M budget. The Christchurch City Council has offered $15M contingent on government and Anglican Church matches. Notably, a New Zealand Buddhist community made a similar gift in 2023 — the LDS donation continues a cross-faith pattern of support for the heritage project. Central America Humanitarian Blitz — 5 Projects, 500,000+ People In late May and early June 2026, the Church announced five humanitarian projects across Central America (with Sister J. Anette Dennis, First Counselor in the Relief Society General Presidency, representing the Church). Projects include: the ‘Windows of Light’ eyecare program in El Salvador (350,000+ screenings to date); safe water access for 250,000+ in Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua (with UNICEF); nearly 750 computers/tablets donated to 66 educational institutions in Guatemala; and medical equipment for the ‘La Mascota’ children’s hospital in Nicaragua. Todd Christofferson: He offered the invocation at Becket’s Canterbury Medal Gala in Philadelphia (multifaith event celebrating religious liberty), alongside Elder Gary E. Stevenson and others. The group also visited the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall — fitting, ahead of America’s 250th. Christofferson reflected on D&C 101 and the Constitution’s purpose to protect ‘all flesh.’ From Philadelphia, he and Sister Christofferson traveled to Toronto, meeting 250+ missionaries in the Canada Toronto Mission weeks before it divides into three missions (Toronto West, Toronto East, and Montreal). He also spoke to hundreds of LDS youth, with one — Amelia Fischer — saying ‘no amount of words can describe how I felt tonight.’ Source: Richie’s document / Church Newsroom 2B. BYU Scholar Study: Religion Adds 7.6 Years to Life The BYU Wheatley Institute is releasing three reports analyzing 3,000 of the most scientifically rigorous studies (culled from 60,000+ papers by Duke University) on religion and health. Key findings: 33/34 studies show improved social health; 10/11 show improved mental health; 7/8 show improved physical health. Regular worshippers live an average of 7.6 years longer (up to 13.7 years longer for African Americans). A ‘landmark finding’: 256 studies show religion prevents/aids recovery from substance abuse (vs. 6 showing negative impact). Author Loren Marks recommends public health frameworks treat religious involvement like exercise recommendations. Source: Richie’s document 2C. Elder Soares Testifies in the Philippines Elder Ulisses Soares completed a two-week ministry in the Philippines (mid-May 2026), meeting with 600+ young single adults in Cebu, 450+ in Quezon City, and 340+ missionaries at the Philippines MTC. His recurring message: ‘His arms are extended to all of us.’ The Philippines has more than 905,000 Latter-day Saints — the Church’s fourth-largest national membership. Two new temples were also dedicated in the Philippines this month: the Davao Philippines Temple (Elder Renlund, May 3) and the Bacolod Philippines Temple (Elder Andersen, May 31). Source: Church Newsroom, June 17, 2026 3. CULTURE & CURIOSITIES 3A. LDS Author in Everyman’s Library — A First BYU biology and bioethics professor Steven L. Peck has reportedly become the first Latter-day Saint author included in the prestigious Everyman’s Library series (publishing canonical English fiction since 1906). His 2012 novella A Short Stay in Hell — a philosophical horror story about a Mormon man condemned to an afterlife library containing every possible book — went viral on BookTok and found a new audience. A literature historian noted: ‘No Mormon or Mormon-adjacent writer that I know of has ever been featured in this prestigious series.’ The Salt Lake Tribune covered the story, noting the irony that a theological horror story marks one of the most significant moments in LDS literary history. The Sasine Family — 40 Countries Before Age 1 Keith and Chelsea Sasine, an LDS couple stationed in Germany (Keith is an Army oral surgeon), made history in November 2025 by taking their youngest daughter Mia to 40 countries before her first birthday (March–November 2025), using a Honda Odyssey for European road trips. The family of six (including Izzy, 10; Abby, 9; and John, 4) attends local wards wherever they travel — a faith anchor the couple says strengthened their testimony and taught their kids the importance of the Sabbath globally. You need help to grow. You can't keep doing every part of this yourself and expect the team to get bigger. But every time you bring up a recruiter or a dialer, the conversation stalls, and you walk out with a no, or a maybe that quietly dies. Here's what I want you to walk away with today. You don't earn a yes by asking for help. You earn it by walking in like an owner with a business case and the math behind it. I'll give you a five-move framework I call Making the Case Like an Owner, so you flip that conversation for good. Episode Breakdown [00:01:13] The Tale of Two Leaders Two leaders walk into the same executive's office in the same month. Both are buried, both want help. The first sits down and asks like an employee asking for a favor, says he's drowning and can't keep up, can he please get a recruiter. What the executive hears is an expense and a complaint, cost with nothing on the other side of it, so the answer is some version of not right now. The second leader carries something different. He doesn't ask for relief, he lays out an investment, the cost, the return, and ties it straight to the growth number the company already set. Same request, same executive, two completely different outcomes. The money was rarely the real obstacle. The framing was. [00:02:10] Move 1: Lead With the Math Walk in with numbers instead of feelings. A real recruiter right now runs somewhere around a $50,000 to $55,000 base with another $35,000 to $45,000 in bonus tied to appointments set and hires made. Now your executive is holding a clear picture, a known cost with most of the upside riding on results. [00:02:38] Move 2: Connect It to the Company's Growth Executives fund growth, not comfort. If leadership set a growth number for the year, tie this hire straight to that number, so you're not asking for help, you're showing them how the goal they set gets hit. And there's a deeper version worth saying out loud. The data shows the overwhelming majority of new producers join because of the leader, not the company brand and not the corporate platform. That makes you and your capacity to recruit the highest-return investment the company can make, and a recruiter or a dialer is simply how they protect that investment. [00:03:23] Move 3: Take the Risk Off the Table A lot of these asks die because the executive pictures a big fixed cost with no floor under it. So remove the fear. Load most of the comp onto results, appointments set and hires made, so the money follows the value instead of leading it. And the timing is on your side. The recruiter talent pool is unusually deep right now, with early-career recruiters getting pushed out of other industries by AI. One leader I coached ran a single ad and pulled more than 370 applicants in two days. You can be choosy in a way you couldn't be a few years ago, and that lowers the risk again. [00:04:09] Move 4: Put a Price on Your Own Hours This is the number leaders forget to bring, and it's the biggest one. Your time. Every time you get yanked off the phones to put out a fire, it costs about 20 minutes just to climb back into focus, and across a normal week of interruptions, that's hours of the work only you can do gone. A recruiter or a dialer isn't a cost. It's you buying back the hours that turn into hires. Name that number, and the investment starts arguing for itself. [00:04:45] Move 5: Close With Proof Land the whole case on evidence. I coached a leader who built his recruiting engine the right way, and in 90 days he hired 18 producers who fit his avatar, then 7 more the next month, which added roughly $100 million in annualized volume. You're not asking your executive to gamble on a hunch. You're pointing at a path other leaders have already walked. [00:05:15] Why It Works Executives say yes to returns, not to needs. The moment you stop presenting a cost and start presenting an investment with a number beside it, you're speaking the one language a decision maker buys in. Taking the risk off the table works because most no's aren't really no, they're a fear of a fixed cost with no floor, and a results-based structure quietly dissolves that fear. And proof closes the gap the same way it does in recruiting. A decision maker can argue with your projection all day long, but they can't argue with a result somebody has already produced. [00:05:55] Your Small Win Tonight Write one sentence. If I get this recruiter or this dialer, here's the return in hires and in volume over the next twelve months. One clean sentence that sets a return right next to the cost. Because if you can't say that sentence out loud yet, you aren't ready for the meeting, and now you know exactly what to go build. [00:06:23] Three Bigger Moves This Week Build the comp plan, a base plus a results-based bonus on appointments set and hires made, because that structure protects the company on the downside and signals the role is built to pay for itself. Do the time math, counting the hours you lose every week to interruptions and putting a dollar figure on them, which reframes the whole conversation from an expense into you reclaiming the hours that build the team. Then pull one proof point, yours or from the industry, of a recruiting engine that produced real hires and real volume, because proof lifts the risk off your executive's shoulders, and a decision with the risk removed is a yes. Key Takeaways You don't earn a yes by asking for help. You earn it by walking in like an owner with a business case and the math behind it. The money is rarely the real obstacle. The framing is. Executives fund growth, not comfort, so tie the ask straight to the growth number leadership already set. Most producers join because of the leader, not the brand, which makes your capacity to recruit the highest-return investment the company can make. Most no's aren't really no. They're a fear of a fixed cost with no floor, and a results-based comp structure dissolves that fear. Your time is the number leaders forget to bring. A recruiter or a dialer isn't a cost, it's buying back the hours that turn into hires. A decision maker can argue with your projection all day, but they can't argue with a result somebody has already produced. Here's the Ep 216 summary, following the SOP, in Richard's voice. You've worked on your vision. You've refined the message, you say it on a call, and people nod. They agree, they tell you it sounds great, and then nothing happens. Nobody moves. That quiet frustration is what today's episode is about, because vision doesn't move people just because it sounds good. It moves people when it's clear, when it's personal, when there's real tension, and when you can prove it. Sounding good is actually the trap. I'll walk you through a five-part framework I call Vision That Moves, and most leaders are missing at least three pieces of it. Episode Breakdown [00:01:25] The Reframe: Vision Is a Dream, Not a Sentence on the Wall The Hebrew root for the word vision is chazon, and it doesn't mean a tidy sentence on a wall. It means a dream, something so big you're almost afraid to say it out loud. When I went back and looked at my own vision statement, I was a little embarrassed, because what I had wasn't a dream. It was a flattened corporate sentence that moved absolutely nobody, including me. I'd sanded it down until it was safe, and safe vision is forgettable vision. The day I rewrote it as an actual dream, people started leaning in. Same leader, same team, completely different pull. [00:02:38] Move 1: Aim at the Right Altitude There are three levels of vision. Me vision, which is what the leader gets. Corporate vision, which is what the company gets. And team vision, which is what the person joining you actually gets. Almost everyone pitches corporate vision, the mission statement and the big logo on the wall, while the recruit sits there politely wondering what's in it for them. Team vision is the only altitude that answers the question they're actually asking. [00:03:17] Move 2: Get Out of the Clouds and Into the Dirt A clouds pitch says our culture is great, our technology is the best, everybody here supports each other. It sounds good and means nothing, because every one of your competitors says the exact same words. A dirt pitch is specific. It names a number, a measurable outcome, a tool out loud. People can't grab onto a cloud. They can grab onto a number. [00:03:57] Move 3: Add Tension A vision with no gap creates no movement. If where they are right now and where you're pointing feel basically the same, there's no reason for anybody to move their feet. So you lovingly name the gap. Here's where you are, here's what's actually possible for you, and here's the quiet cost of staying exactly where you are for three more years. No tension, no motion. That's not pressure, that's clarity. [00:04:28] Move 4: Bring Proof This is the one leaders skip, and it's the most powerful one you've got. The most credible thing you can ever show a recruit isn't a promise, it's a person. I had a leader recently whose biggest producer was closing two or three deals a month before she joined him, and she's doubled that since. That's not a pitch, that's proof of concept living and breathing on his team. Proof dissolves skepticism faster than any slide deck you'll ever build. [00:05:09] Move 5: Transfer the Energy Here's my actual definition of recruiting. It's a transference of energy and passion. Everything that excites you lives in the future, the milestone, the growth, the place you're all going. If you deliver your vision flat, it doesn't matter how good the words on the page are. Nothing transfers. Your genuine energy about the future is the fuel, and without it the best vision ever written just sits there in the room and dies. [00:05:42] Why It Works People don't move toward fog. The brain can't take action on something vague, so when your vision is abstract, the honest human response is a polite nod and zero behavior change. Make it specific and personal and you finally give them something to grab and pull themselves toward. Proof works because skepticism is the default setting for any good producer who's been pitched a hundred times by a hundred leaders who all sounded the same. And energy works because emotion is contagious. That's why two leaders can say the identical words and only one of them moves the room. The words were never the variable. Clarity, tension, proof, and energy were. [00:06:50] Your Small Win Tonight Rewrite your team vision for the year 2035 and start that sentence with the words, our dream is. If the new sentence doesn't make you a little uncomfortable to say out loud, it isn't big enough yet, so push it further. A vision big enough to scare you a little is the only kind that's big enough to pull other people. [00:07:20] Three Bigger Moves This Week Draft a team-level vision that names exactly what a producer who joins you gets out of the next three years, because people commit to what's in it for them. Take one abstract claim in your current pitch and replace it with a real number, a measurable outcome, or a tool you can name out loud. Then pick one person already on your team who has grown since they joined and make their story the proof you tell, which honors the producer you already have and shows every recruit that what you promise around here actually happens. Key Takeaways Vision doesn't move people because it sounds good. It moves them when it's clear, personal, full of real tension, and provable. Sounding good is the trap. Safe vision is forgettable vision. Pitch team vision, what the person joining actually gets, not corporate vision. It's the only altitude that answers what's in it for me. Get out of the clouds and into the dirt. People can't grab a cloud, they can grab a number. No tension, no motion. Name the gap and the quiet cost of staying, and that's clarity, not pressure. The most credible thing you can show a recruit isn't a promise, it's a person who changed. Recruiting is a transference of energy. Deliver your vision flat and nothing transfers, no matter how good the words are. If you want help sharpening a vision that actually pulls the right people toward you instead of just earning polite nods, reach out. Visit bookrichardnow.com and grab time on my calendar, and I'd be glad to think it through with you. And if you'd rather build it in real time, I host a biweekly working lunch where we do exactly that together. The next one's Friday June 19 at 12 PM ET. If your marketing plan is "post a pretty photo on Instagram and hope families find me"... we need to talk. I spent the last several months looking at the actual data on how families are finding and hiring family photographers right now in 2026, and the path they take from "we need family photos" to "take my money" looks nothing like what worked in 2022 or 2023. In Episode 302 (Part 1) David Charlton is joined once again by Doug Strycharczyk, CEO of AQR International, to explore how mental toughness shapes our decision-making under pressure. Drawing on over 30 years of research and applied practice, Doug breaks down the 4C's model of mental toughness and focuses specifically on Control and Commitment, two components that heavily influence how athletes, students, and performers respond when it really matters. A central theme of this conversation is that mental toughness is not judgemental. High or low scores on any dimension are not "good" or "bad"; instead, they represent different default responses. For example, high life control often shows up as a strong can-do attitude, while lower life control can reflect a more cautious, reflective approach, both of which can be highly effective depending on the situation. Doug also unpacks emotional control, explaining why routines (think Jonny Wilkinson or Cristiano Ronaldo have used) help performers stay focused under pressure. The discussion then moves into commitment, exploring the difference between goal orientation (sense of purpose) and achievement orientation (emotional drive to achieve), and why curiosity can actually be a hidden strength for those lower in achievement orientation. Throughout the episode, listeners are encouraged to develop self-awareness, manage their mental and emotional reserves, and recognise their own default responses, whether in sport, the workplace or in everyday life. This episode sets the foundation for a deeper understanding of performance psychology and why one size never fits all. >> Key Takeaways · Mental toughness is neutral, not judgemental. Different responses to pressure can all be effective success depends on matching your response to the situation, not forcing a single "ideal" mindset. · Self-awareness creates better decisions under pressure. Understanding your default response (freeze, rush, over-analyse) gives you the option to pause, reset, and choose a more helpful behaviour. · Manage your mental and emotional reserves. Lower energy makes even simple tasks feel overwhelming. Breaking tasks down, resting, and refuelling are performance strategies, not weaknesses. DISCLAIMER: David committed a schoolboy error! Summary In this episode, Andy talks with Barry Wolfe, author of It's All In Your Head: Why Psychology Doesn't Help Your Workforce Deliver Value - And What Can. Barry is a seasoned HR executive and business leader who has built a reputation as one of the rare "HR guys who actually has a head for business." In this frank and eye-opening conversation, Barry challenges many of the tools and ideas we've come to rely on in leadership and management. Andy and Barry discuss why frameworks like Maslow's hierarchy may be doing more harm than good, how personality assessments can become limiting narratives, and why our obsession with "fit" often backfires. But this isn't just a critique. Barry offers an alternative in the form of Value-Centric Leadership, a model that reframes how we think about work, leadership, and results. You'll learn about tools like The Same Page and the 4C's of leadership that can help you lead with more clarity and purpose. If you're ready to challenge what you think you know about managing people (and want practical tools to lead more effectively), this episode is for you! Sound Bites "Most of the hiring tools we use today are only marginally better than chance." "We act like we're selecting with science, but we're often just rationalizing our preferences." "Maslow never created a pyramid. That was a marketing add-on, not a scientific insight." "Psychology gave us language, but somewhere along the way, it became the product." "What do I want to pay people to do?" becomes "What results do I want to buy from them?" "We pay people to do activities, but it's because we want to buy results." "Nobody buys verbs. Agile Leadership Development Strategies with Jimmy In this episode, I sat down with Jimmy, a leadership consultant who has spent the past 7–8 years transforming frustrated managers into confident, strategic leaders. Jimmy explained that the leadership challenges many organizations face today aren't because of individual shortcomings, but rather a lack of meaningful leadership development investment at the enterprise level over the past 25 years. Instead of relying on outdated training methods, Jimmy champions agile and adaptable strategies that meet leaders where they are and equip them for a volatile business environment. Why Traditional Leadership Development Isn't Working We discussed how leadership development often gets cut during tough economic times, despite companies spending over $160 billion annually on programs that fail to move the needle. Jimmy shared that more than 72% of these initiatives don't change behaviors or outcomes, while nearly half of leaders admit they don't trust leadership at all. I reflected on how fatigue and personal demands add to this challenge, making it difficult for managers to fully engage with leadership training. A Practical Framework for Change Jimmy broke down his 4C framework — designed to shift beliefs and behaviors rather than just deliver more content. His approach focuses on practical applications, like improving one-on-one conversations and learning how to navigate tough discussions. Unlike most training sessions that end when the slides are closed, Jimmy's program provides three months of ongoing support to help leaders build new habits and embed them into their daily practice. Conversations Over Slide Decks We compared the effectiveness of traditional presentations versus direct conversations in leadership settings. I shared my preference for meaningful discussions over slide decks, which too often leave leaders disengaged. Both of us agreed that systems — whether in leadership, daily life, or personal wellbeing — play a critical role in creating consistency and adaptability. Aligning Leaders and Teams I also spoke about the importance of emotional awareness and alignment between leaders and teams. When goals and expectations aren't clear, it's like rowing a boat with everyone paddling in different directions — lots of effort, very little progress. Jimmy echoed this point, highlighting how critical it is to keep teams aligned and engaged. Time, Energy, and Managerial Effectiveness Jimmy addressed a common issue for mid-to-senior level managers: the struggle to manage time and energy effectively. Without a shift in mindset and tools, many plateau in their careers. His strategies include rethinking meeting value, task prioritization, and learning to say no. I connected this to my own experience with burnout, emphasizing how leaders must create environments where saying no is safe and respected. The 80% Capacity List We explored a practical tool Jimmy teaches called the “80% list,” which helps managers identify when they're nearing capacity before burnout sets in. By recognizing warning signs, sharing them with a trusted colleague, and conducting self-audits, leaders can prevent overload. Recovery practices ensure they return to optimal performance when needed. Building Sustainable Leadership Jimmy reinforced the importance of sustainable leadership, noting that many people have been sprinting at full capacity since COVID — what he calls the “cursed window of five years.” Psychometric tools, he explained, help leaders identify their optimal state so they can operate at their best without constantly burning out. I shared a quote from Joan Roan on the simplicity of action versus inaction, reminding listeners that often the difference between growth and stagnation is choosing to act. The Amplify Program We closed with Jimmy's Amplify program at JBLHighPerformance.com. His approach begins with a “verbal dump,” allowing overwhelmed leaders to release mental clutter before layering in tools for self-repair and momentum. It's a practical, supportive path for leaders ready to move from frustration to effectiveness.

EPISODE 231 In a previous blog post and podcast entitled, The New Paradigm of the 4 Cs, I introduced the 4 C's of (1) Connection; (2) Cooperation; (3) Collaboration; and (4) Co-Creation, that are the new world paradigm for building meaningful personal and business relationships that shape the present and the future. Then I discussed the first concept of the 4C's, Connection in another blog post and podcast. Next, I discussed the second concept of the 4C's, Cooperation in another blog post and podcast. Next, I discussed the third concept of the 4C's, Collaboration in another blog post and podcast. In this blog post and podcast, I discuss the final concept of the 4C's, Co-Creation. Co-creation is the highest expression of human partnership. Co-creation is not just working together. Co-creation is becoming creators together. With Co-creation, boundaries blur and ideas merge. What emerges is something no single person could have imagined or created alone. Co-Creation gives birth to positive results and positive transformations. How can you practice Co-creation in your own life? Participating in and embracing Co-creation within the framework of the 4C's creates a positive impact in your own life and in the lives of those you co-create with. Then I discussed the first concept of the 4C's, Connection in another blog post and podcast. Next, I discussed the second concept of the 4C's, Cooperation in another blog post and podcast. In this blog post and podcast, we go deeper on the third concept of the 4C's, Collaboration. Collaboration goes far beyond cooperation. Collaboration sparks the creativity. While cooperation aligns efforts, Collaboration combines individual strengths to produce something new. It is synergy, where the whole, the Collaboration end product becomes greater than the sum of its parts. How can you practice the concept of Collaboration in your own life? Within the New Paradigm of the 4 Cs, Collaboration, is not merely about working together, it is about unlocking collective brilliance, elevating individual contributions and preparing the conditions where co-creation becomes not only possible, but inevitable. Experiencing, acknowledging and embracing Collaboration creates a positive impact in your own life and in the lives of those you collaborate with. EPISODE 228 In my previous blog post entitled, The New Paradigm of the 4 Cs, I introduced the 4 C's of (1) Connection; (2) Cooperation; (3) Collaboration; and (4) Co-Creation, that are the new world paradigm for building meaningful personal and business relationships that shape the present and the future. In this podcast we go deeper on the concept of Connection. Connection begins the process. Connection is the foundation of meaningful relationships. How can you practice Connection of the 4C's in your own life? Without connection, cooperation feels mechanical, collaboration feels forced, and co-creation becomes impossible. The First South Korean Single Malt, or, An Eagle, a Unicorn, and a Tiger Walk Into a Bar Ki One (formerly known as Three Societies) was founded in 2020 with a simple goal: be the first Korean single malt distillery and set a benchmark for what Korean single malt could be. Given the reaction to their releases, one can only say well done. They are the first Korean single malt on the market, with three core expressions (the Eagle, Unicorn, and Tiger) and special releases exploring different parts of their components or playing with finishes. What could Korean single malt be? Nestled on the north face of the mountains 30 minutes from Seoul, this distillery gets no direct sunlight in the winter and can swing between -4C and 36C throughout the year. Bryan came from a brewing background, Andrew Shand from a distilling family. Together, they've set a Korean "profile" that hearkens back to their heritage while highlighting something synonymous with Korea: spice. Make no mistake: whether at 6 months or 5 years, this is a spice-forward single malt, evoking kimchi and gochujang pepper alongside the classic single malt by which they were inspired. As the first, they had to chart a path, and we get into an unusually detailed description of how taxation and regulation can lag behind industry growth and, if unchanged, hamper it. This was Bryan's first longform English interview for Ki One - I hope you enjoy!
