In this message, our Pastor of Global Mobilization, Jay Ham, introduces “Next,” a three-week sermon series on the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20), with a message entitled, “Where Next?” The post Next Series – Jay Ham appeared first on First Baptist Church, Russellville, AR.
Pastor Andy's message this week is titled “Where Next”? After discussing the shape of things to come for both the previously established congregations (pre Covid) and also the newly established online congregation, he speaks about the very definition of a Christian or more usefully a Disciple, or a Believer. Are we called something yet our attributes do not confirm the name we give ourselves? If we are a follower of Jesus do we properly purpose in our hearts to follow Him? Do we dedicate in our hearts to follow Jesus in all His steps, placing our attention in Him? Jesus called people to become followers and disciples in the Gospels and He does the same today – to have a daily experience of Him in their world. Jesus calls us into a daily relational walk with Him now just as He did in the Gospels. All Jesus disciples in the gospels had security in what they did and left this and at some cost started to follow Jesus in a new journey. They did not look back. They needed to leave their previous security to join Him and follow Him into something much better. Will we lay down our comforts and put Him first in all things advancing with Him? Gregg Bleakney and I talk about how a photo submitted to The Seattle Times launched his photo career and more on Episode 187 of The Outdoor Biz Podcast. Facebook Twitter Instagram The Outdoor Biz Podcast Please give us a rating and review HERE Show Notes First Exposure to the Outdoors Growing up I did not come from a family that was participating much, or at all in outdoor activities. Mostly we were sports family. So my weekends were spent running track and playing soccer or basketball. I think in eighth grade I got cut from the basketball team so I started exploring the outdoors just on my own with a friend who didn't play basketball. In high school when I got my first car, I actually went out and started hiking for the first time around the Olympic Penninsula. I grew up on Bainbridge Island, so there were a ton of places to go. Things we talked about Gregg Bleakney WhereNext Cycling University of Oregon track US Olympic Trials Seattle Times National Geographic Summit Workshops Rich Clarkson Bogota, Columbia The Birders: A Columbian Nature Documentary Series eBird Diego Calderon Other Outdoor Activities Cycling Hiking Advice One thing I love about this industry is that most people who are involved are involved for a reason. It's not like, this was my major in college, so I just did it, you know? You love what you do and that's just awesome because there's nothing like it. One of the reasons I got out of software sales is I'd be in a room doing a presentation and you could just read the room. People just did not want to be there. People were just not stoked about the job, not passionate about and that stuff to be there. And that just kind of sucks the energy out of the room, where I've never had that happen in this industry. Everyone is super enthusiastic. So I would say one thing is to understand you're going to be a lot with other people who are very passionate and passionate people recognize other passionate people. Joined by Andrew Warren, Chair of the Teaching Schools Council, and Stephen Munday, also a member of the Teaching Schools Council, education lawyer Nick MacKenzie takes us back to the start of spring term 2018 for an insight into the conversations that were happening amongst the Council. In response to those conversations – which then reached much wider than the Council itself and resulted in engagement with a wide range of key stakeholders - Andrew goes on to talk about the key drivers behind commissioning their recent think piece ‘Where Next for the Self-Improving School System?’ in partnership with FASNA and supported by Browne Jacobson. With a particular focus on getting system governance right, this podcast takes an honest look at the direction of travel for our school-led system - taking Andrew and Stephen’s views on accountability ahead of the DfE consultation coming in the autumn, how they see the system at the moment, and a description of the pyramid representation set out in the think piece for a system of good governance supporting system improvement made up of three ‘spaces’ – the improvement, inspection and intervention ‘spaces’. They also share some thoughts on where next for Teaching Schools. “We have to be saying to Teaching Schools - work with others like you’ve never done before, share with others like you’ve never done before, because there are some challenges but we can’t solve them on our own” - Andrew Warren, Chair of the Teaching Schools Council. Nick MacKenzie is independently ranked as a leading lawyer for education nationally. He has significant experience advising on the creation and development of academy groups, joint ventures, Teaching Schools and collaborations in the education sector and providing governance and strategic advice. At a national level, Andrew Warren is the Chair of the Teaching Schools Council. Andrew is also the Executive Director of the Manor Teaching School Alliance, based at Manor Primary School in Wolverhampton - consistently one of the best performing primary schools in the country. The teaching school’s brief is to support schools and find the next generation of outstanding teachers and leaders. He is also a qualified coach and professional mentor and works closely in this capacity with many headteachers and senior leaders. Stephen Munday is the Chief Executive of The Cam Academy Trust and the Executive Principal of Comberton Village College. Stephen works in several advisory capacities with the Department for Education, including the Teaching Schools’ Council and the Eastern Region Headteachers’ Board, and is a National Leader of Education with the National College for Teaching and Learning, and an Associate Head with the SSAT.
In the wake of President Trump’s announcement that he intends to have the United States leave the Paris climate accord, many American states, cities, and corporations declared: “We are still in.” Beyond the rhetoric, however, how strongly committed is America’s corporate sector to taking steps to reduce climate change? Can corporate actions on climate support, rather than detract from, growth in markets and profitability? How much impact are corporations feeling from the abrupt change in climate policies between the last US Administration and the current one? What kinds of climate policies are most favored by the corporate sector? As part of our on-going speaker series “Where Next on Climate?” the Center on Global Energy Policy hosted a presentation and panel discussion on climate, energy, and development. Kevin Knobloch of Tufts University’s Climate Policy Lab presented results from a soon-to-be-completed research project entitled “The Relationship between Clean Energy/Climate Policy and Expanding Corporate Markets.” This project involved structured interviews with C-suite leaders in major corporations and private equity houses. After Knobloch’s presentation, we had a panel discussion with: • Kevin Knobloch, Tufts University • Geoffrey Heal, Columbia Business School • Nancy Meyer, Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES) • John MacWilliams, Center on Global Energy Policy
In a world struggling to respond adequately to the challenge of climate change, how should we think about the implications of efforts to alleviate poverty by facilitating energy development that enables economic opportunity – and what are the implications of success on climate change? A better understanding of the implications for climate change of energy access and of energy for further development can inform effective policy responses and investments in technology and R&D – which may be especially important in a time of uncertainty about national policies across the industrialized world. As part of CGEP's on-going speaker series “Where Next on Climate?” the Center on Global Energy Policy hosted a presentation and panel discussion on climate, energy, and development. Philippe Benoit, Senior Associate for the Energy and National Security Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), presented findings from his on-going work on these topic. Following Mr. Benoit's presentation, he joined a panel discussion with the following experts: Ellen Morris, Adjunct Professor of International and Public Affairs, Columbia/SIPA Kathleen Auth, Deputy Energy Office Director, Power Africa, US Agency for International Development (USAID)
The O’Reilly Programming Podcast: The next technological evolution of cloud systems. In this episode of the O’Reilly Programming Podcast, I talk serverless architecture with Mike Roberts, engineering leader and co-founder of Symphonia, a serverless and cloud architecture consultancy. Roberts will give two presentations—Serverless Architectures: What, Why, Why Not, and Where Next? and Designing Serverless AWS Applications—at the O’Reilly Software Architecture Conference, October 16-19, 2017, in London.Discussion points: Why Roberts calls serverless “the next evolution of cloud systems,” as individual process deployment and the resource allocation of servers are increasingly outsourced to vendors How serverless architectures use backend-as-a-service (BaaS) products and functions-as-a-service (FaaS) platforms The similarities and differences between a serverless architecture and microservices, and how microservices ideas can be applied to serverless Roberts explains that serverless is “not an all-or-nothing approach,” and that often “the best architecture for a company is going to be a hybrid architecture between serverless and non-serverless technologies.” Recent advances in serverless tooling, including progress in distributed system monitoring tools, such as Amazon’s X-Ray We also get a preview of JupyterCon, August 22-25, 2017, in New York, from conference co-chair Fernando Perez. Our discussion highlights the sessions on JupyterLab, and the UC Berkeley Data Science program, an introductory-level course in which the students use Jupyter Notebooks.
