Redbones are one of the most fascinating hound breeds in competition today. They won our hearts in Where The Red Fern Grows, they are appealing to the eye, and they have a deep, rich history in competition coon hunting.....But why are they not as successful as Treeing Walkers at the most prestigious events? Well.....Join Josh and Redbone breeder and competitor Tony Dominguez for this weeks TDT, and maybe we will all find out why!

Many listeners to this podcast got their start into coon hunting with hounds as a result of reading the classic American novel Where The Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls, published in 1961. The stars of the story are a pair of Redbone Coonhounds named Old Dan and Little Ann.The book can be found in virtually every elementary school library in the country and the movie has thrilled audiences, young and old since its debut in June of 1974. As a result, many coon hunters chose their first coonhound from the Redbone breed. The guest on this week's podcast has been associated with the Redbone breed for most of his life which is a considerable period of time. He celebrated his 85th birthday this month, in February of 2022.Entering the competition realm of the sport while a teenager, Fred Moran soon acquired the nickname “The Redbone Man” due to his affinity for, and early success with, Redbones in the competition hunts.Moran, despite his age still hunts Redbones and, in his words, “I hunt a minimum of five nights a week, every week.” He further states, “I don't hunt long, maybe treeing a coon or two unless someone is along that I'm trying to impress.” That's vintage Moran. The stories are endless and they are immensely entertaining. We are delighted to be able to share several of them in this episode, told by none other than the Redbone man himself, Fred Moran. Enjoy!
Sometimes a book has a great impact on us, but how grateful would you be to learn how the story almost never was? Here's the story of such a book and the little known tale about it's scrappy rise to literary classic. Where The Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls. #withinpodcast.com jandjpoolsafety@gmail katchakid.com

We take a look at some of our biggest literary pet peeves, ranging from merely annoying to completely story-ruining. Other topics include the morality of fooling around for old souls in young bodies, the movie "Big" and its terrible precedent for examining such morally-questionable situations, and how Ethan is definitely NOT a scientist.
Hey Everyone, Angela Bowen here, the host of Looking Back On My Wonder Years: A Wonder Years Podcast. Today, I covered the movie Where The Red Fern Grows from 1974. I originally saw this movie when I received the VHS for my birthday when I was 12. Since then I've watched it at least once a year during the Summer. This movie is so near and dear to my heart. Along with covering the movie I also reads passages from the novel. The beginning of the novel starts out differently as well as some scenes that were cut from the film. I do plan to cover Where The Red Fern Grows 2 at some point on the podcast so look for that in the future. Movie Synopsis: Where the Red Fern Grows is the heartwarming and adventurous tale for all ages about a young boy and his quest for his own red-bone hound hunting dogs. I hope you all enjoy this podcast episode. Have a great week! To EMAIL The Podcast Go To: lbomwonderyearspodcast@gmail.com

This is a podcast about the book Where The Red Fern Grows. This book about Billy Coleman and his family and his two hunting hounds.
Sooooooo funny story about this one. I got the audiobook AND the kindle version, but relied on the audiobook because I had a packed week and it was easier to listen while I took care of chores and housework. UNFORTUNATELY, it turns out that the version I listened to was abridged, and this fact was not included in the title nor was there even a full-length version available at all to alert me of the danger. So. I apologize. That's two book club episodes now where I've dropped the ball and I'm smarting a little from it. I really did like what I heard of this book, and I'm deeply sad that they robbed me of a full experience. I wish I knew why! Thank you to Jaime for commissioning this one, and I will see you all in a couple of weeks with Where The Red Fern Grows!

Hey folks! So, unfortunately I had a bit of a hiccup with the person who was supposed to guest-host this episode. They had a personal emergency and forgot to let me know they wouldn't be available, so I was sitting in front on my camera with Crowdcast turned on when I found out. I decided to go on and record by my lonesome, and I think it still went pretty well. This book was a little less whimsical than I expected, because there were actually pretty hardcore stakes; if the little boy didn't stop the cook or help the Clocks escape, they would all die. All of them! And what's surprising is that we don't actually get any confirmation that they're okay at the end. We don't SEE them escape, we just have to take the word of the woman who is telling the story. Not only that, but the cook doesn't get any comeuppance for being pretty much terrible! As a kid I think that would have bothered me a lot, but frankly as an adult I was like, "Well that's how it goes." Anyway, I liked this book and it was kind of weird and I'm low-key interested in reading the sequels. Thanks to everyone who hung out with me at the Crowdcast, and make sure to pick up the book for next month's Childhood Favorite, Where The Red Fern Grows!

After working in the book business for a decade people are sometimes shocked to hear I wasn't much of a reader growing up. I had my handful of favorite books: Hatchet, Maniac Magee, and Where The Red Fern Grows to name a few. But aside from the classics I really couldn't be bothered to read unless it was forced on me. That didn't stop my parents from buying me books now and then, especially during the Goosebumps craze of the early 90's. I had probably 6-10 different R.L. Stine titles including one unique one called Escape From the Carnival of Horrors. Unique, meaning it wasn't just your standard spooky story...it had a twist. As part of the "Give Yourself Goosebumps" series, it was advertised to have "over 20 different scary endings" and as the reader, you got to choose where you wanted to go next (usually ending in your untimely demise). Admittedly, I never really "finished" Carnival of Horrors. I remember finding the end of a few stories but I can't say I ever completed every scary ending. We can probably blame my brother's Super Nintendo for that. All of this rambling has a point, and I promise I'm getting to it. See, whether you were an avid reader or not, it's very likely that you've come across those "choose your own adventure" style of books at some point in your life. And for those currently nodding in agreement and longing for the days of your youth...we have something neat to show you. Enter . A comic artist and writer, Ben is the creator of the groundbreaking comic series The Aggregate. Billed as "A post-apocalyptic graphic novel with giant robots, organically engineered terrorists and spider-cats", The Aggregate is a split decision comic, meaning at certain points in the story you're going to be forced to make some decisions on where the story is going to go next. And it's rad. Currently, and within days he's already smashed his goal. Check out our chat as we learn more about these spider cats and the subtle art of wallpapering your house with comic art pages. Enjoy! -Jr.
When I was a kid growing up in the foothills of the Ozarks there wasn't a lot of excitement, but that changed the summer I turned nine. The filming of "Where The Red Fern Grows" had come to town with all the glitz and bustle making a movie can provide. One school friend had a special relationship to the REAL stars of the movie.
