The girls are back on the couch — and this time, they’re joined by media mogul, cultural commentator, and certified uncle of the internet, Charlamagne Tha God. From the jump, it’s laughs, honesty, and real conversations as Lex P and Drea Nicole sit down with one of the most influential voices in media. The trio dives into everything from podcast longevity, building something from the ground up, and why consistency matters more than clout. Charlamagne opens up about the evolution of The Breakfast Club, navigating public criticism, and what it really takes to survive (and thrive) in this industry long-term.Things get real as they talk mental health, therapy, and why healing isn’t optional — especially in Black communities. They unpack fame, growth, and how staying grounded matters more than ever, plus why everybody wants a platform but not everyone is built for the work.Of course, it wouldn’t be Pour Minds without the chaos — from wild side conversations to unexpected confessions, messy moments, and a few “wait…what?” tangents that only this trio could pull off.Funny, reflective, and full of gems — this episode is a masterclass in growth, self-awareness, and knowing when to laugh at yourself.#PourMinds #CharlamagneThaGod #LexP #DreaNicole See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

We're proud to present the final installment of our over-a-year-long Into the Depths series on Caves of Qud, as well as our last episode with our recently retired Eggplant branding. Caves of Qud is a massive open-world roguelike RPG that has been in development since 2007 and Early Access since 2015, and we give it an appropriately epic sendoff with nearly four hours of deep discussion. Doug and Rob, joined by special guest host Star St. Germain, dive into the game's finale and overarching themes with narrative designer Caelyn Sandel and co-creators Jason Grinblat and Brian Bucklew. Be warned, major spoilers await: We discuss the aftermath of the Tomb of the Eaters, the Moon Stair, the [Redacted], Reclamation, We Are [Redacted], plus other juicy details about how this legendary game finally came to an end… and what's in store for it next. Malnutrition should be defined as any diet that results in metabolic derangement. Few Americans suffer from lack of access to calories. But we are unhealthy, with metabolic and chronic diseases increasing steadily. These are true statements, but how we should respond to them individually and societally is controversial. Peter Ballerstedt ("Sodfather of the Ruminati”) earned his bachelor's and master's degrees at the University of Georgia and his doctorate at the University of Kentucky. He was the forage extension specialist at Oregon State University from 1986 to 1992. He worked in the forage seed industry from 2011 until 2023. He is a member of several national and international scientific societies, participates in related global initiatives, and is a Past-President of the American Forage and Grassland Council. Peter's personal experience has led him to re-examine human diet and health. What he has learned doesn't agree with the advice given for the past several decades. Peter is an advocate for ruminant animal agriculture and the essential role of animal source foods in the human diet. He strives to build bridges between producers, consumers, and researchers across a wide variety of scientific disciplines – increasing awareness of metabolic health and ruminant animal agriculture's essential role in social, economic, and ecological sustainability. Peter has spoken at many different events in the US and internationally. Many of his presentations are available on YouTube. Peter and Nancy live in western Oregon (northwestern USA) with their three dogs, Conor, Noni, and Iris. Soul Eaters: The Hidden History Of Medicinal Cannibalism In Europe In Early Modern Europe, the question wasn't ‘should you eat humans for medicine', it was ‘what type of humans should you eat for medicine?' Though some attempted to erase the cannibalistic practices of this period from our history books, our expert explains how people were using human bones, blood, and fat to heal themselves. Food Fight Pt.2: Demands For A Healthier Future The modern food industry has turned our diets into a profit-driven enterprise, often at the expense of public health. Our expert this week proposes a new framework to rebuild a healthier, more ethical global food system. Though there's a lot of work to be done, we're already seeing ongoing policy efforts and growing awareness around the world. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

We take you inside Charleston's Hibernian Hall in 1859, where Robert Barnwell Rhett—“the father of secession”—braids grievance, fear, and political theater into a call that helps set the country on a path to civil war. Zoë Schlanger is a staff writer at the Atlantic and an award-winning journalist covering science, health and the environment. Her recent book The Light Eaters is a narrative investigation into the new science of plant intelligence and sentience. On this episode of Nature Revisited, Zoë discusses eye-opening facts about the life of plants and their ingenious biological methods of adaptation and survival. From their ability to communicate, recognize their kin and behave socially, react to sounds, and morph their bodies to blend into their surroundings, plants display an extraordinary system of intelligence that challenges us to rethink the role of plants—and our own place—in the natural world. FAN MAIL--We would love YOUR feedback--Send us a Text MessageWords can move nations—and sometimes they move them off a cliff. We dive into the antebellum South to examine the Fire Eaters, the radical pro‑slavery leaders whose speeches, platforms, and media campaigns turned sectional tension into a secession movement. With William W. Freehling's and Eric H. Walther's research as our guide, we unpack how mainstream Democratic moderates once contained extremism, why that buffer failed, and how a small but relentless network reframed compromise as dishonor and delay as defeat. We explore the core playbook: amplify grievance, define identity against an enemy, and repeat a simple choice—submit or secede. William Lowndes Yancey emerges as the silver‑tongued strategist who pushed the Alabama Platform and helped fracture the Democratic Party at Charleston in 1860, while Robert Barnwell Rhett's Charleston Mercury kept the pressure on with relentless editorials and organizing. Their coordination—one commanding the stage, the other the press—created a feedback loop that made moderation sound timid and militancy sound inevitable. Along the way, we revisit key flashpoints like Bleeding Kansas and the caning of Charles Sumner, not as isolated events but as fuel for a narrative that sold rupture as rescue. This conversation isn't just about the past; it's a lens for the present. We track how over‑the‑top rhetoric accelerates polarization, how media ecosystems can reward the loudest voices, and what happens when political identity hardens into a zero‑sum creed. The takeaway is both sobering and practical: language shapes choices, and choices shape history. If you care about how societies keep disagreement from becoming disaster, this story matters.Key Points from the Episode:• Fire Eaters defined as radical pro‑slavery secessionists• Moderates within the Democratic Party as temporary brake on extremism• Propaganda through speeches and newspapers to harden opinion• Yancey's Alabama Platform and Charleston 1860 walkout• Rhett's Charleston Mercury as engine of agitation• Walther's argument on movement diversity and acceleration of secession• Biographical arcs of Yancey and Rhett as case studies in radicalization• Caution on the social cost of over‑the‑top rhetoric• Preview of a debate comparing 1860 rhetoric to todayOther resources: Want to leave a review? It's a Farmer Insights show this week, designed to inspire eaters to upgrade their food sourcing practices and for farmers, whether organic or regenerative farming curious, to gain insights into how others are achieving success, saving money, transitioning, managing weeds and pests, and more.Lawson and Laura from Margaret River Organic Farm in Western Australia embarked on a mission to relocalise the food system, rehab the land they farmed to be in peak condition, restore biodiversity, and build a thriving farm - plenty of insights, tips, and tricks shared. I love featuring regenerative farmers from a range of methods and locations around the world because eaters get inspired to prioritise food over “excess things” and support the farmers who prioritise plant and animal health, biodiversity, minimised synthetic inputs and nutritious food produced. Enjoy, share and support your farmers however you can do so: Could you cut out a middle-person or two in your food supply chain with a couple of items, even, just to get started? Challenge issued! Sounds like the overlapping songs of birds can speak volumes about the biodiversity in an ecosystem, and now scientists are looking to use the tiny sounds made by earthworms, ants, and voles to study the health of soils. Also, "depaving parties" of volunteers with sledgehammers are turning paved yards into pollinator havens and green space. That can help reduce climate impacts from extreme heat and flooding. Plus -- a scientist who rappels down cliffs to hand-pollinate endangered plants. A vine that mimics the leaves of nearby species. Rice that crowds out strangers but leaves room for the roots of relatives. The book “The Light Eaters” tackles big questions of plant intelligence, consciousness, and communication. -- Know someone who might be interested in a Living on Earth internship this fall? We grew up with food being labeled “good” or “bad.” With sweets treated like gold and guilt baked into every bite. With pressure to finish our plates and shame if we didn't. We're breaking that cycle. In this episode, we're sharing 3 powerful ways we're helping our kids build a healthy, shame-free relationship with food and their bodies:Why we don't hype up sweets (no food gets put on a pedestal)Why we never force bites or make them earn dessertWhy we don't call any food “bad,” not even packaged snacksThis isn't about raising perfect eaters. It's about raising kids who trust their bodies, enjoy food, and feel good around the table—for life. This episode may contain paid endorsements and advertisements for products and services.
