I am so happy to welcome back Rev. Jayne, who is THE go-to person for all things angelic! Rev. Jayne Feldman has dedicated her life to sharing the light, love and wisdom of the angels with the world. Let me tell you a bit about her: Jayne is the author of several books, including Commune with the Angels, Driving Under the Influence of Angels and Angels by My Side. She is the founder of Be An Angel Day, celebrated annually on August 22nd. Jayne is an ordained Interfaith Minister and offers both private spiritual coaching and Angelic Attunements where you will meet your own guardian angel. This special service also attunes you to the entire angelic kingdom! In this episode, Rev. Jayne teaches a Masterclass on Angelic Vibrational Healing! She shares several angelically inspired techniques to raise your vibration, including the G.R.A.C.E blessing, a Coptic Chant, and the Archangel Michael decree, to name a few! All of these techniques will raise YOUR vibration so you experience more peace, love and joy! Rev. Jayne has been my mentor since 1994 when I had my own Angelic Attunement and is a pure channel of angelic light and love. If you are interested in working with her directly, email her at earthangel4peace@aol.com Key Learnings: 1) When you raise your vibration, you can be on the same channel as the angels. It's like inviting ease and grace into your life. A simple way of doing that is to have an altar in your home. Your altar mirrors your sacred energy back to you, and there are angels attending your altar! 2) A beautiful way to raise your vibration is by giving yourself a GRACE blessing. This is a way to receive the blessings from the various kingdoms on earth such as: the mineral kingdom – crystals the Nature kingdom – flowers the Animal kingdom – totem animals Stars & Angels – the Radiant ones Myths of the Ages – sacred story characters Saints & Sages – patron saints and wise ones Omega – What do you wish to be revealed? Alpha – What do you want to begin? 3) Coptic chant to bring more LIGHT into your life: Poad Me Ra – means God Grant me Light. In the morning face east and put your left hand on your solar plexus and your right index finger on your third eye. Repeat at night facing West. 4) Archangel Michael decree – Michael's Light descend, descend, descend Micheal's Light defend, defend, defend Michael's Light expand, expand, expand Michael's Light command, command, command Michael's Light I AM, I AM, I AM 5) Resources mentioned: Green Hope Farm Flower Essences, Healing Oils of the Bible by Dr. David Stewart, Solfeggio Frequencies “When you raise your vibration, you can be on the same channel as the angels.” Rev. Comment on this episode by going to KDramaChat.comToday, we'll be discussing Episode 8 of When Life Gives You Tangerines, the hit K Drama on Netflix starring IU as Oh Ae-sun and Park Bo-gum as Yang Gwan-sik as young adults, and Moon So-ri as Oh Ae-sun and Park Hae-joon as Yang Gwan-sik as older adults. We discuss:The song featured during the recap: My Love by My Side by Isaac Hong, a gorgeous acoustic ballad performed with only guitar, piano and voice. The full-circle moment when Ae-sun and Gwan-sik's past kindness saves their daughter Geum Myeong from a false accusation nearly 20 years later.Guilt and obligation between parents and children, especially how Geum Myeong's guilt leads to emotional distance from her loving parents.Geum Myeong's awful experience at the police station, reminiscent of her mother's experience at the Busan police station 20 years earlier.Gwan-sik's efforts to connect with his daughter, waiting all day to see her in Seoul and facing her rejection with grace.Ae-sun's sacrifice: abandoning her dream of opening a café so Geum Myeong can study abroad in Japan. The museum that Gwan sik visited, which is probably the Independence Hall of Korea and the historical context of the 1987 democratic elections in Korea. The heartbreaking memory of little Geum Myeong waving to her father, and how a grown-up Geum Myeong's wave brings Gwan-sik to tears. How Gwang Rye, in Ae sun's dream, is still giving Ae sun advice how to discuss the death of Dong Myeong with Gwan sik.Ae-sun finally winning the poetry contest after years of longing, thanks to the haenyeos' secret submission of her poem. The mysterious wedding scene where Geum Myeong is sobbing—who is she marrying and why is she so sad?Reflections on “gaman,” a Japanese concept of enduring hardship with grace, and how it defines both Ae-sun and Gwan-sik's character.Park Hae-joon's transformation from the "nation's adulterer" to the "nation's romantic lead," and how playing Gwan-sik changed his personal outlook on his marriage and life with his wife.ReferencesIndependence Hall of Korea - Wikipedia1987 South Korean presidential election - Wikipedia
A half century after the United States won its independence from Britain, Canada was rocked by two armed uprising known as the Rebellions of 1837-38.The revolts failed, resulting in many rebels being deported to Australia and Tasmania as political prisoners facing hard labor or hanging. Others escaped such reprisals by going into exile in the US. Sympathy for these disenfranchised French Canadian patriots was the subject of a song written four years later by a young college student named Antoine Gérin-Lajoie.How the Song Came to BeYears later in his memoir Souvenirs de collège, Gérin-Lajoie told how he adapted his lyrics to the deeply expressive French-Canadian folk tune "J'ai fait une maîtresse" (of which "Si tu te mets anguille" is also a variation). “I wrote that song in 1842 when I was in Rhetoric Class in Nicolet, Quebec. I wrote it one night in bed at the request of my friend Cyp Pinard.”Gérin-Lajoie's verses to “Un Canadien Errant” were published in 1844 in the Charivari canadien, and soon the song was being sung by French Canadians across the country — from Acadia on the east coast to the distant reaches of the northwest territories — stirred by how the lyrics captured the deep sadness of exile. Un Canadien errant, A wandering Canadian, Banni de ses foyers, Banished from his homeland, Parcourait en pleurant Traveled, weeping, Des pays étrangers. Through foreign lands. "Si tu vois mon pays, "If you should see my home, Mon pays malheureux, My sad unhappy land, Va dis à mes amis Go say to all my friends Que je me souviens d'eux.” That I remember them.”The Acadian ConnectionLater Acadians also adopted the song as their own — changing its first line to “Un Acadien Errant” — in the context of the Acadian deportation. Between 1749 and 1755, many Acadians who had refused to swear allegiance to the British Crown emigrated to Lower Acadia or Cape Breton. Then, fearing that they might join the French during the coming Seven Years' War, Nova Scotia Governor Charles Lawrence deported the Acadians to New England and the Atlantic Coast. Cajuns of the Louisiana bayou country also trace their own ancestry to these same exiles.Twentieth Century PerformancesBack to song, Paul Robeson recorded a bilingual version in 1950 under the title "Le Canadien Errant.” However, most Americans learned the tune a decade after that with a French-language performance by Ian & Sylvia, who included it on their debut 1962 album for Vanguard Records. The duo gave the song further prominence at the Newport Folk Festival as recorded on the 1996 album Ian & Sylvia Live at Newport. In the 1969 film My Side of the Mountain, folk singer/musicologist Theodore Bikel sang the first part of "Un Canadien Errant" and then played a bit of it on a "homemade" reed flute. The melody refrained throughout the film. Leonard Cohen recorded "Un Canadien Errant" as "The Lost Canadian" on his 1979 Recent Songs album, and his own song "The Faith," on his 2004 album Dear Heather, is based on the same melody. Our Take on the TuneThirty years ago, when The Flood first started doing this song, the band was back to being a trio of the original guys — Dave Peyton, Joe Dobbs and Charlie Bowen — and often on rehearsal night, the only listener in the room would be Dave's beautiful wife, Susan. At the end of the evening, when the guys asked Susie what last song of the evening she'd like to hear, it was almost always this sweet, sad tune that she remembered hearing 20 years earlier down in Louisiana when she and David and young Davy spent an autumn and winter in Cajun country. We lost Susan three years ago this summer. This one's for you, dear heart. This is a public episode. Hi guys and welcome to 2025! To start off 2025 I was joined by LPGA Tour Caddy Scottie Leonard @worldwidescottie who caddies at the moment for the super Ingrid Lindblad as we look forward to the start of their season in Brandenton, Florida for Founders Cup which leaves it traditional home of Upper Montclair, New Jersey. We find out how Scottie even without a real golfing background was able to get a job as a club caddy at his local golf club as it made more money than cleaning the golf carts. Scottie would then get breaks with Jennifer Chang and would also caddy for Elizabeth Szokol before landing full time role on the Epson Tour last year with Ingrid Lindblad where she would have the chance to win before finishing 2nd to Fati Fernandez Cano then at Tuscaloosa Classic where Ingrid would win on Epson Tour contributing massively to her finishing 6th overall gaining full status on LPGA for 2025! fWotD Episode 2763: Susanna Hoffs Welcome to Featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia’s finest articles. The featured article for Wednesday, 27 November 2024 is Susanna Hoffs.Susanna Lee Hoffs (born January 17, 1959) is an American singer, songwriter, guitarist, and actress. She, Debbi Peterson, and Vicki Peterson founded the Bangles in 1981. Their debut album, All Over the Place, (1984) was acclaimed by critics but sold poorly. Their second album, Different Light, (1986) was also warmly received by critics and was certified double-platinum in 1987 and triple-platinum in 1994. It contained the US number two single "Manic Monday" written by Prince and the number one single "Walk Like an Egyptian". The group's third album, Everything (1988), included the US top ten charting "In Your Room" and number one "Eternal Flame", both written by Hoffs with Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly. Hoffs was lead vocalist on five of the seven Columbia singles by the Bangles, which contributed to a public perception that she was a lead singer, even though all four members took lead vocals across their output. Following tensions including resentment at Hoffs's perceived leadership and the stress of touring, the band split in 1989. It reformed in 1999 and released the albums Doll Revolution (2003) and Sweetheart of the Sun (2011).Hoff's first solo album, When You're a Boy (1991), was followed by Susanna Hoffs (1996). Neither of the releases proved to be as popular as the Bangles' albums, although they yielded two charting singles in the US, the top 40 hit "My Side of the Bed", and "All I Want". She recorded several songs for films and formed the faux-British 1960s band Ming Tea with Mike Myers and Matthew Sweet. Hoffs teamed with Sweet to produce Under the Covers, a series of cover song albums. Her 2012 album Someday was followed by two more cover albums Bright Lights (2021) and The Deep End (2023).Hoffs's first novel, This Bird Has Flown, a romantic comedy about a struggling musician, was published by Little Brown in 2023. It received favorable reviews, and Universal Pictures purchased the rights to the novel for a screen adaptation. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:06 UTC on Wednesday, 27 November 2024.For the full current version of the article, see Susanna Hoffs on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm generative Ruth.
We bring you one of our favorite conversations featuring some of the most inspiring Latina writers we've had on the show. When her parents' tourists visas expired, and they were no longer allowed entry into the United States, Elizabeth, an American citizen, persuaded her parents to allow her to stay in Arizona solo. She was only 15 years-old. Even as she contended with housing and food insecurity, Elizabeth managed to graduate valedictorian of her high school class, before going on to graduate from the University of Pennsylvania. In this episode, we talk about the values tension in wanting to change the world and needing to pay rent, why the responsibilities she carried never allowed her to “let loose” like her peers, and her decision to share her story in her new memoir, “My Side of the River.”Follow Elizabeth on instagram @lizzycancu and find her book My Side of the River here.

Jan Rutherford, founder of Self Reliant Leadership®, takes a deep dive into the themes of self-reliance and leadership resilience. He shares insights from his collaboration with Jacquie Jordan, a co-author on his book “Becoming a Self-Reliant Leader: How Grit and Disciplined Duty Forge Indomitable Teams”. Jan explores the foundational principles of Self-Reliant Leadership: leading oneself, leading others, and leading the organization, stressing the continuous adaptation and refinement of these interrelated skills. Jan shares personal insights from his background in Special Forces and leading wilderness expeditions, emphasizing the importance of solitude and reflection for effective leadership. Jan highlights practical strategies for fostering resilience and adaptability in leaders, emphasizing the need for clear expectations, accountability, and effective communication within teams. Jan reflects on his journey as a leader, acknowledging the challenges and transformations he's experienced. He emphasizes the importance of self-awareness and facing one's own hypocrisy in leadership, a concept inspired by one of his mentors. Key Takeaways [03:36] Jan Rutherford, founder of Self Reliant Leadership, discusses the importance of self-reliance in leadership. Inspired by the book "My Side of the Mountain" as a child, Jan learned the value of self-sufficiency. A challenging experience during special forces training further solidified his belief. Leaders, according to Jan, need to be well-rounded individuals taking care of themselves mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. This self-reliance allows them to make tough decisions and lead effectively even in difficult situations. However, Jan also emphasizes the importance of relying on others for help when needed. [07:26] Self-reliance is a core concept for Jan's leadership philosophy. It translates into three pillars: leading self (taking responsibility), leading others (setting expectations), and leading the organization (alignment and focus). Jan emphasizes the importance of constantly reflecting and adapting these principles. He uses an analogy of climbing a summit - preparation, teamwork, and a clear vision are all crucial for success. Jan also shared a story from a past expedition where nervousness manifested as humor. [12:31] Jan also talks about what leaders can do to foster greater resilience and adaptability in themselves. [14:32] Jan talks about effective leadership communication. Leaders should set clear expectations and solicit feedback to improve performance. Negotiation is key to gaining commitment from employees. Leaders should also understand the importance of balancing tasks with building relationships with their teams. [20:55] Jan discusses the challenges of personalized leadership. Leaders need to tailor their approach to individual employees while still maintaining fairness. Effective leaders should spend more time developing individual relationships with their team members. [22:22] Jan discusses how to handle HR policies that restrict personalized leadership approaches. The leader is advised to push back on HR and use their power to implement what they believe is best for their team. [24:35] Jan discusses the importance of self-awareness in leadership. He also talks about the challenges of modern leadership and the importance of helping people find purpose and meaning in their work.Jan also shares how having a co-author of his book, Jackie Jordan, brought a valuable outsider's perspective to the project. [35:40] Say nothing which is not true, nothing which is not kind, nothing which is not useful, and nothing which is not necessary. - W. S. Darley Quotable Quotes “You gotta get up on the hill. You know, we are not paid to be busy. We got to get some alone time and reflect and figure things out.” “If you're not squared away, if you're not self reliant, you can't lead. Because when it's your turn to lead, you've got to exhibit discipline, and you've got to sacrifice, and you know, you got to muster everything.” “Slow down to speed up.” “We get so caught up in our head trash that sometimes like, oh my gosh, this is the end of the world. Is it really the end of the world? No, it's not.” “Don't ask people for feedback. Ask them for advice and suggestions.” “The biggest challenge is the need to personalize leadership approaches yet be perceived as fair.” “We are not high and mighty. We are flawed. You know, we are works in progress. We are facing our own hypocrisy.” “There's a big difference between good tired and bad tired. And I think our obligation as leaders, coaches, whatever we do, is to send people home at night good tired, not bad tired.” Here are the books mentioned in this episode Resources Mentioned The Leadership Podcast | Sponsored by | Rafti Advisors. Today's Topics: 1) Gospel - JN 20:24-29 - Thomas, called Didymus, one of the Twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples said to him, “We have seen the Lord.” But Thomas said to them, “Unless I see the mark of the nails in His Hands and put my finger into the nailmarks and put my hand into His Side, I will not believe.” Now a week later his disciples were again inside and Thomas was with them. Jesus came, although the doors were locked, and stood in their midst and said, “Peace be with you.” Then He said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and see My Hands, and bring your hand and put it into My Side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe.” Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!” Jesus said to him, “Have you come to believe because you have seen Me? Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.” Feast of Saint Thomas, Apostle Saint Thomas, pray for us! Today's Topics: 1, 2, 3, 4) Gospel - JN 20:24-29 - Thomas, called Didymus, one of the Twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.” Terry discusses cleaning up the McCarrick scandal and situation; the Head of the Dicastery for Communication, Dr. Paolo Ruffini's defense of sexual abuser priest, Fr. Rupnik; the Vatican allowing a "transgender" to meet with children at the Children's Day of Prayer, and allowing a comedian to tell children that there is no Purgatory and no hell; and what Bishop Strickland says about Eucharistic Revival; and the role of Priests, Bishops, and the Pope
In this episode, Rick Tocquigny, a distinguished mentor, founder, and the voice behind the “Success Made to Last” podcast, as well as an accomplished author and Pulitzer Prize finalist, delves into the profound realization that serving others holds greater significance than mere personal success. This insight became particularly poignant following the loss of close family members. Rick places high value on asking meaningful questions and sharing narratives of resilience. He underscores the critical role of passing down life lessons to preserve family histories, drawing on examples like his mother's experiences during World War II. Furthermore, Rick highlights the imperative for startup leaders to align their actions with their core values from the outset, ensuring cohesion and adherence to these principles, especially in financially challenging times. He also sheds light on the importance of collaboration and strategic planning in the early stages of a startup, asserting that while monetary concerns are paramount initially, the synergy of a united team is equally crucial for success. Key Takeaways: [04:52] Rick shares that he started caring more about helping others after losing some important people in his life. He realized that making a real difference is more important than just being successful. Helping others and leaving a good impact became his main goal, even if it's not noticed by everyone. Rick also believes that it's all about making the world a better place, no matter what happens. [11:11] He mentions that he appreciates a thought-provoking question and discusses the significance of curiosity and deep questioning. Rick also highlights that he finds inspiration in stories like "My Side of the Mountain" that explore survival and self-discovery. Drawing from their time at Procter & Gamble, he stresses the importance of asking insightful questions to uncover meaningful stories. [16:22] Rick explains that his project of sharing life lessons began after losing his parents in 2003 and 2005. He realized the importance of preserving family stories, like their mom's experience in World War II, which inspired him to encourage others to do the same. While some veterans might be hesitant due to PTSD, Rick urges people to record stories for future generations, even if it means ensuring accuracy by gathering facts. [19:16] He shares a touching story from his book about a teacher in Arkansas who rearranged her classroom, leaving her students confused. Eventually, she revealed that the desks and chairs were provided by veterans. This gesture was a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by veterans for the freedom enjoyed every day. Rick then emphasizes the importance of honoring and remembering the contributions of veterans and their families. [23:54] Rick explains that if an organization's core values don't align with its strategic direction, they won't contribute to success. He also mentions the importance of integrating core values into daily operations and decision-making processes. Without this integration, core values can seem superficial and meaningless. Furthermore, if employees don't believe in the core values, they won't influence behavior or contribute to the strategy. [26:40] He reflects on leadership in startup environments, emphasizing the importance of aligning core values from the beginning. Rick stresses the need for leaders to exemplify collaboration and alignment with core values, especially in startup scenarios where resources may be limited. He suggests that podcasts should focus on speaking to entrepreneurs starting their own businesses rather than Fortune 500 executives, as these individuals are navigating the real-world challenges of building a company from the ground up. Rick also highlights the significance of strategy and culture in shaping the success of a startup, noting that while culture is important, practical concerns like making payroll take precedence in the early stages of business development. [32:48] Rick expresses gratitude for his mentors who have influenced his understanding of success and significance. He mentions Preston Paddon, known for his role in negotiating the NFL contract with Fox, who taught them the importance of resilience and rolling with rejection. Finally, Rick highlights Frank Blake, former CEO of Home Depot, who shared a valuable lesson about aligning personal interests, skills, and market demand to guide career choices. He also emphasizes the significance of considering passion, proficiency, and market demand in career decisions. [31:20] He talks about how everyone feels lonely sometimes and wishes for deeper connections with others. Rick mentions that despite success, many people feel something is missing or have regrets about not spending enough time with loved ones. He also notes that everyone has their own struggles and imperfections, and some people spend a lot of time trying to be perfect in their careers, without success. He says that societal pressures, like those seen on LinkedIn, can add to feelings of inadequacy. Rick then suggests being more understanding of others' struggles instead of expecting perfection. [33:05] Rick reflects on the misconception that retirees simply party a lot, suggesting instead that they often uphold traditional family values, faith, and patriotism. He shares a personal regret about moving away from their parents to pursue a career opportunity with PepsiCo, realizing in hindsight that they sacrificed valuable time with their young children and missed out on the support of his parents. Rick expresses regret for prioritizing career ambition over family connections, and wishes he had made a different choice. [35:17] He encourages others to prioritize listening and collaboration in their relationships, following the ratio of two ears to one mouth. Rick emphasizes the importance of embracing collaboration to maximize everyone's skills, echoing advice from their mentor. He advocates for approaching life with a mindset of "spontaneous structure," balancing structure with spontaneity to engage in meaningful conversations and experiences. Rick also urges people to seize opportunities, even if it means taking risks or facing challenges, and to prioritize making a positive impact on both themselves and others. [46:17] Closing Quote: Remember, a human being would certainly not grow to be 70 or 80 years old if this longevity had no meaning for the species. The afternoon of human life must also have a significance of its own and cannot be merely a pitiful appendage to life's morning. -Carl Jung Quotable Quotes: "Success is commonly associated with reaching a high level of wealth and often status, a self-centered role." "Significance is about making a positive difference, leaving a legacy, and contributing to the betterment of society." "Don't expect anybody to say thank you to you." "It's about giving back without anybody noticing and just feeling good about it and doing something for somebody else." "Giving your time and effort to others actually has a positive physical effect on you." "Everybody can get more when they give." "The audience is the hero." "You just have to get to that wisdom within a person or their personal experience." "Take the time to ask these people before they're gone about their stories." "Record history in a fun and factual manner." "Keep the history of your families going." "Get as many of the facts in as possible." "Walk the talk yourself first as a collaborator and a person who leads alignment." "We are all broken people, and we are all on this personal journey and odyssey." "Some people wander through life like the mountain lion by your house who doesn't know exactly where he's going, but he needs his next meal." "People need people and they need friends." "Take more time for friends and family; less time for work." "Everybody is a sinner, so no one's perfect." "Approach any relationship as a collaboration and how you can get the best out of everyone's skill set." "Roll with it, have more fun, laugh more, and consider structuring your life under this kind of new way of doing things." “You got one life to live. Go live it and have fun and go make a difference for yourself, but make a difference for others first." When her parents' tourists visas expired, and they were no longer allowed entry into the United States, Elizabeth, an American citizen, persuaded her parents to allow her to stay in Arizona solo. Carlos Niño, Liv.e, Andre 3000 and Luis Pérez Ixoneztli discuss how their music is inspired by spirit, the feeling of creating sounds that are meaningful to them, and how they stay open to learning during their lives in music.Producer, percussionist and composer Carlos Niño started making beats aged 17 with Fabian Alston, before becoming a radio DJ in California. In 2008, he started Carlos Niño & Friends, and has worked with the likes of Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, Photay and Kamasi Washington. His music blends orchestral arrangements and acoustic instruments with cutting-edge production techniques; in September of this year he released his new album, (I'm just) Chillin', on Fire. Hailing from Dallas, Texas, experimental R&B artist Liv.e is known for her hypnotic voice and eclectic musical influences. She was first introduced to music through the church ,but now draws inspiration from the likes of Lalah Hathaway and Wayne Shorter, as well as Dallas-based label Dolfin Records. In February of this year she released her critically acclaimed second album, Girl in the Half Pearl. Composer, ethnomusicologist and multi-instrumentalist Luis Pérez Ixoneztli is a hugely influential figure in Mexican music, who's dedicated years of research to the pre-Columbian instrumentation of Mesoamerica, travelling around the country to study the musical traditions of Mexico's native peoples. His music has been described as “perhaps the ultimate fusion of ethnic and modern music”; in 2013, his work was inducted into the Archive of Mexican Music, 32 years after it was first published. Andre 3000 is an American rapper, singer, record producer and actor who is best known for being one-half of hip-hop duo Outkast. He's sold millions of records around the world, with hit singles such as Hey Ya! and Ms. Jackson, as well as acting in series such as The Shield and films including All Is by My Side, a 2013 biopic about Jimi Hendrix.

I'm sure almost everyone who interviews you must ask about “Time Is on My Side.” But could you talk about why you gave up playing it for a while in the middle of your career?"Well you know, after a while, when you sing something that you know you've recorded, and you did the first national version of it, and when you're singing, somebody tells you: “Oh, you're doing a Rolling Stones song,” I got tired of explaining that I did it before the Rolling Stones. After a while that gets to be old. And so I stopped doing it, because I got tired of explaining that. They didn't do their homework, they made assumptions. And so at some point you get tired of repeating yourself. Even now, I don't do it as much as I do others. I sing it, but a lot of times it's requested before I think about doing it, because I have so many other songs I can do.I have a large enough repertoire that by choice I can either do all of my own material or I can do a few cover songs that I like. And by taking requests, it makes it simpler, because then you are doing what your audience wants to hear. And I'll put it this way: Most folks leave satisfied that they've heard their favorite song.In fact, “Anyone Who Knows What Love Is” — I recorded that back in 1964. I was at a show on the East Coast somewhere, and somebody in the audience asked me to play “Anyone Who Knows What Love Is.” I said, “Wow, I haven't heard that request in a long time.” I sang it for them, and then when I got through, I asked them: “What album did you get that from?” They said, “We didn't get it off an album. We heard it on ‘Black Mirror.'” You never know where you're going to get a request from, or where they heard the song. And so I prepare — I put as much of my own material in my iPad, lyrically, so in case someone asks for it, I'll do my best to do it for them."Is there one song that you consider nearest to your heart?"The only one that I could say I'm closest to would be the one that got me my first big hit, which was: Wish Someone Would Care". It became No. 17 in the nation, and if it hadn't been for the British Invasion, it might have gone a little higher in the charts. There were some personal things going on in my life and I wrote the song because of those things. So that would be the closest to me."

Today you and I are digging into three things you must accept about other people. It took me years to understand these truths. It sounds horrible, but I always wondered, “What's wrong with people? Why don't they change?” I know you can relate. Because today I'm taking your questions about trying to change other people. You're frustrated by the fact that your spouse or partner won't exercise more. You get angry seeing how much money your daughter wastes going out every weekend. You're annoyed by how stubborn your parents have become the older they get. Me too. I've tried every tactic you can imagine to get other people to change. And recently I realized the true source of my frustration: It's not them, it's me. I'm refusing to accept three things. These things are hard to accept, and they're true. Once you hear them and you apply them to your life, your relationships will be way easier. In addition to the three truths about other people, you'll learn research that explains why it's so hard to get other people to change. And like all episodes, this one is packed with tactical advice and takeaways that you can put to use immediately. And, if you're the one who's busy making changes but your loved ones are not being supportive, I answer that question from a listener, too. I feel compelled to answer your questions because so many of you are improving your life with the tools you're learning on this podcast and your family is starting to get annoyed with you. That's okay. It shows you're making progress (but it doesn't make it easy). Hopefully today's episode will.
