Send us a textIt's all in the narrative, any great podcaster would say. With that in mind, narratively speaking, we find Doby Dawg missing in action, or out of action, depending on which one of our boys in blue you ask. Three out of four superheroes aren't bad, not for one podcast anyway, because Double D would be surprised to hear that Hound Dog has the clap from just pushing buttons. Tuning into this week's episode, I'm sure Turtle Man would agree it's all about the live action. Our booze battered brothers cover a superfluity of topics of great interest, which include a picture-taking gym teacher who goes to jail, a number of non-cashless bonds for crimes in North Carolina and California being California. Don't let the sun go down on a full bottle of whisky as you hunker down in that wonderful place you call your castle, and as always, my high intellect brothers, Enjoy the Ride. In this episode Steve talks with North Carolina's Mark Miller.Mark is a veteran raccoon hunter that has long been devoted to the Treeing Walker breed. Mark's Walker hound Dreamer was voted into the Southeastern Treeing Walker Association's Hall of Fame as a coonhound. Through Miller's association with North Carolina State Trooper Brad Hyatt who runs Plott dogs on bears, he became interested in Plotts, North Carolina's official state dog. How does a houndsman devoted to a given breed, especially on that has been particularly successful with that breed, make the decision to try another breed, moving from the most popular among United Kennel Club's seven coonhound breeds to a breed that has the fewest dogs in the registry? This episode tells the story in detail including a discussion on the differences in the two breeds and why Miller was persuaded to switch. I finally drew an elk tag but not in Montana like I had been putting in for, it was in Wyoming. First timers luck one would say, as this hunt unfolds there is a lot of first timers luck. If you're into steep climbs, sudden encounters, and the raw, unfiltered adrenaline of the chase. Not just a hunt —but a high-stakes pursuit where every moment counts. Don't miss out on this episode — it's a front-row seat to the intensity, challenge, and thrill of chasing elk deep in Wyoming's backcountry. In this episode Steve takes an inside look at the hound sports by exploring the things that radiate from within the soul of the hunter, from the emotional side. Houndsmen may display a plethora of emotions, the usual suspects being jealousy, envy, greed along with often being overly competitive. But there's a soft underbelly to the sport that macho men may be reluctant to admit, much less talk about. Steve delves into feelings of pride, self-centeredness, disappointment, exhilaration, and even disgust that often comprise the houndsmen's personality, making it difficult to form and maintain meaningful relationships with other members of the sport. Feelings of love and adoration for hounds as well as grief when a good hound is lost come under Steve's emotional microscope in this introspective episode. In this episode Steve laments the loss of an old friend, a monthly visitor to which he contributed a fairly large portion of his working career, a friend whose blank pages Steve turned, each month, into essays, exposes and bites of entertainment for thousands of hound-hungry subscribers over a nearly fifty-year history. UKC announced recently that it will no longer publish their house organ Coonhound Bloodlines after the first of the year. The episode also contains a White River Refuge 2025 preview, a letter from old friend Bubba Back Home, a report on Ghost the wonder dog and a congratulatory message to the brand new UKC World Champions. The episode concludes with a tutorial on coon skinning for those wishing to take a Foxfire-type approach to coon hunting the way Deddy did it.We would like to thank those who support this podcast. Olivia and Justin discuss the latest announcements regarding EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert, including confirmation of an early 2026 theatrical release AND a soundtrack album, read a bit of listener feedback, and give their brief impressions on Priscilla Presley's "Softly As I Leave You" before going into our Songs of the Week. Olivia's up first, prompted by the book, to look at the history behind "Softly" - originally an Italian ballad titled "Piano" and she unpacks how it made its way from Italian singer Mina to English singer Matt Monro and then across the Atlantic. And how exactly did Elvis Presley land on his unique interpretation with an added tragic narrative layer? Then the duo tackle Justin's Song of the Week, the long-awaited "Don't Be Cruel," exploring the history behind songwriter Otis Blackwell's inspirations, how "Don't Be Cruel" fits into the wider story of both country and rhythm & blues that was manifesting as what we now know as rock and roll in the mid-1950s, what appealed to Elvis about Otis's demo, what makes "Don't Be Cruel" potentially Justin's favorite Elvis song... and why the single of Hound Dog and Don't Be Cruel is the perfect 1950s rock and roll single.
Too often we put too much focus on the end result of catching game. But the process itself is just as valuable, sometimes even more so. If the process is done correctly the end result is just the icing on the cake. If done properly it makes the end result much more gratifying. The journey is built on the bond forged during this time. So listen in and be amazed by the plethora of fact-based information that oozes from the enormous brains of our four amigos like the pus from that cold sore you can't seem to get rid of. In this episode, admittedly one of the hardest to produce in his 320-plus podcast career, Steve begins with a musical tribute to recently assassinated Christion activist Charlie Kirk. The song written and performed by Oklahoma singer/songwriter Tennessee Jet (aka T.J. McFarland), was penned shortly after Kirk was shot while debating students on a Utah college campus. The impact of the Kirk slaying sent shockwaves across the nation and impacted our host and his guests, Nubbin Moore and Randy Fielder as well as millions across the Nation. After the tribute, the episode moves on to the podcast's benchmark “Dog talk at its finest” as the boys discuss favorite hounds of the past, Nubbin's recent family fishing and hunting trip to south Alabama and a look-back at the recent Autumn Oaks event in Indiana. With scarcely two months to go until their annual trip to the White River National Wildlife Refuge, the conversation naturally drifts out to the big Delta bottoms of Arkansas. This one is dedicated to the memory of patriot Charlie Kirk. May he rest in peace. We would like to thank those who support this podcast. Steve is joined by his brother Randy as they entertain fellow West Virginian Nathan Johnson as this week's guest. Johnson, from the town of Rock View in Wyoming County, has never hunted in any other place than southern West Virginia where he, as were the Fielder brothers, was born and raised. The conversation centers upon what it's like to hunt in the rugged environs of coal-mining country and why, in fact, would anyone want to hunt in an area that has been named one of the worst states in the Union for coon hunting? The boys agree that it takes a certain hunting style for a coonhound to be successful in the rugged terrain and provide the listener a detailed description of hunting there. As the month of October approaches, the discussion moves to raccoon season, the abundance or lack thereof of raccoons in the area, preferred hunting methods, and their individual positions on taking game in areas where the species is not always in good supply. This is West Virginia dog talk at its finest with one of the finest hunters to have occupied our guest's chair for an interview. Sit back and enjoy this trio of mountain boys having a good time talking dogs. You'll especially enjoy Johnson's one-liners as the conversation stays on the lighter side. Today Justin sits down with Jen Gatien. Jen is a filmmaker and producer based in New York City. Some of her film credits include Hound Dog starring Dakota Fanning and Robin Wright, Holy Rollers starring Jesse Eisenberg, and For Ellen starring Paul Dano. In her spare time, Jen serves as a board member on the Lower East Side Girls Club, as well as a volunteer for Pup Stars Dog Rescue and the Mercer Houston Dog Run. She's here to discuss her new documentary film, Men of War, which is debuting this week on streaming video on demand services. It's the story of the Ill-fated Operation Gideon, which took place in May, 2020. A small group of former Army Special Forces soldiers teamed up with Venezuelan rebels to stage a coup against the government of Nicholas Maduro. But the plan went awry immediately and nearly everyone involved was either killed or arrested, which further inflamed tensions between Venezuela and the United States. Send us a textDigging deep into this week's episode, we find three of your four badge-carrying, ass- kicking, Geritol-taking, in bed by nine o'clock boys in blue discussing the Loomis Fargo Robbery from the 1990s. The local news coined the robbery as the Hillbilly Heist. Speaking of hillbillies, where is Hound Dog? Could he be out looking for the two plus million dollars that were never recovered, or maybe he was wearing his favorite pair of Speedos while chasing the squirrels around the backyard? Who knows what the Hound Dog does when no one is looking? Either way, I'm sure he had a bottle of whisky close by, and as with you, my brothers and sisters, I'm sure he is Enjoying the Ride. In this episode Steve and Fred Moran cover a number of topics, the chief of which is Fred's account of being shot while on a hunting trip in Wyoming. Steve supports Fred's story with an account of a well-known raccoon hunter that experienced the same fate. Several stories from experiences in the not-so-tame West ensue, including Fred's tale of a horse and rider wreck of major proportions. The nearly two-hour conversation covers writing coonhound stud ads, the age limit for a prospective coonhound to be purchased, the best coonhound in Fred's long experience of hunting with hounds, his preference for major hunts to win and his experiences hunting squirrels with dogs. In this powerful episode of The Joseph Graham Show, Joseph sits down with branding powerhouse and CEO of JG Entertainment, Jonathan George, for a conversation that's equal parts vulnerable and victorious.Jonathan shares the unforgettable moment he first stepped into the spotlight—accidentally belting out “You Ain't Nothin' But a Hound Dog” in church instead of “Jesus Loves Me.” It was the beginning of a lifelong love affair with performance. But after winning Ed McMahon's “Next Big Star” at age 26, Jonathan's dreams were shattered when the industry rejected him for being gay. What followed was a journey through heartbreak, identity suppression, and relentless bullying. But instead of breaking, Jonathan built something extraordinary. He became the kind of coach he had always needed—one who doesn't try to change you, but helps you rock who you already are. Now, with over two decades of experience and clients who collectively reach over 150 million followers, Jonathan leads the movement UNLEASH YOUR ROCKSTAR, helping people discover their authentic voice and show up powerfully in the world. This episode is a masterclass in personal branding, resilience, and the radical power of owning your story. How rejection became the catalyst for Jonathan's purposeWhy authenticity is the foundation of personal brandingThe difference between changing who you are vs. unleashing who you areHow to build a brand that reflects the depth of your goalsWhy your voice matters—especially when others try to silence itA creative who's been told you're “too much”A leader ready to build a brand that reflects your truthSomeone who's tired of shrinking to fitCurious about how to turn pain into purpose and visibility into impactFollow the movement: [Unleash Your Rockstar]Work with Jonathan: [JG Entertainment]Instagram | LinkedIn | Website

Each of the four players in this episode have hunted coons for sixty years or more. Their combined age of 297 autumns is nearly 300 years and each year now. They gather to follow hounds in the big woods of the Arkansas delta. At the heart of their annual hunt is the endless discussion at mealtimes and around the camp when hounds are fed and watered and beverages poured, of the memories of bygone hounds or hunters gone on to their rewards that continue into the wee, small hours, only to be rejoined over steaming cups of coffee and heaping plates at the breaking of each new day. These are the coon hunting conversations that form the foundation of the experience that continues to motivate these men to come year after year to the White River Refuge. Join Nubbin Moore, Morris Hardy, Randy Smith and Steve as they talk dogs and all things coon hunting in this, the last Gone To The Dogs podcast of the 2021 year. Happy New Year! The excitement on the last day was a great send away. But it was intense until we were able to get the dog back on the ground. Climbing trees is not something we deal with on a regular basis, but it can happen to anyone. How do you deal with those situations? In this episode Steve visits with Tom Hopkins of Marshall, Texas.Tom owned, trained and handled what was perhaps the most famous Treeing Walker Coonhound in the history of coon hunting, the immortal House's Lipper. Lipper distinguished himself in competition and in the breeding pen by winning major championships and by producing more that 5000 pups, not including those that were born through frozen semen breeding. Lipper's record in that regard is most likely never to be broken. Lipper was making news before he was a year old and won the prestigious PCA National Championship, the prize package of which included a pickup truck, dog box and other related awards at less than two years of age. He is the youngest Dual Grand Champion (Nite Hunt and Bench Show) on record. Steve, in this episode, persuades Tom to share the Lipper story from the first coon he treed at about seven months old to discussions about several notable Lipper offspring including House's Lawyer, Adios Lightning, House's Clint and House's Cash. If you are coonhound history buff this is the episode for you. “Dog talk at its finest, Walker-style.” We would like to thank those who support this podcast.
