In this episode Steve and Fred Moran cover a number of topics, the chief of which is Fred's account of being shot while on a hunting trip in Wyoming. Steve supports Fred's story with an account of a well-known raccoon hunter that experienced the same fate. Several stories from experiences in the not-so-tame West ensue, including Fred's tale of a horse and rider wreck of major proportions. The nearly two-hour conversation covers writing coonhound stud ads, the age limit for a prospective coonhound to be purchased, the best coonhound in Fred's long experience of hunting with hounds, his preference for major hunts to win and his experiences hunting squirrels with dogs. Listeners will want to make a trip to the fridge for a long cold one before settling down to an episode of “dog talk at it's finest, nearly two hours in length. In this powerful episode of The Joseph Graham Show, Joseph sits down with branding powerhouse and CEO of JG Entertainment, Jonathan George, for a conversation that's equal parts vulnerable and victorious.Jonathan shares the unforgettable moment he first stepped into the spotlight—accidentally belting out “You Ain't Nothin' But a Hound Dog” in church instead of “Jesus Loves Me.” It was the beginning of a lifelong love affair with performance. But after winning Ed McMahon's “Next Big Star” at age 26, Jonathan's dreams were shattered when the industry rejected him for being gay. What followed was a journey through heartbreak, identity suppression, and relentless bullying. But instead of breaking, Jonathan built something extraordinary. He became the kind of coach he had always needed—one who doesn't try to change you, but helps you rock who you already are. Now, with over two decades of experience and clients who collectively reach over 150 million followers, Jonathan leads the movement UNLEASH YOUR ROCKSTAR, helping people discover their authentic voice and show up powerfully in the world. This episode is a masterclass in personal branding, resilience, and the radical power of owning your story. How rejection became the catalyst for Jonathan's purposeWhy authenticity is the foundation of personal brandingThe difference between changing who you are vs. unleashing who you areHow to build a brand that reflects the depth of your goalsWhy your voice matters—especially when others try to silence itA creative who's been told you're “too much”A leader ready to build a brand that reflects your truthSomeone who's tired of shrinking to fitCurious about how to turn pain into purpose and visibility into impactFollow the movement: [Unleash Your Rockstar]Work with Jonathan: [JG Entertainment]Instagram | LinkedIn | Website

Each of the four players in this episode have hunted coons for sixty years or more. Their combined age of 297 autumns is nearly 300 years and each year now. They gather to follow hounds in the big woods of the Arkansas delta. At the heart of their annual hunt is the endless discussion at mealtimes and around the camp when hounds are fed and watered and beverages poured, of the memories of bygone hounds or hunters gone on to their rewards that continue into the wee, small hours, only to be rejoined over steaming cups of coffee and heaping plates at the breaking of each new day. These are the coon hunting conversations that form the foundation of the experience that continues to motivate these men to come year after year to the White River Refuge. Join Nubbin Moore, Morris Hardy, Randy Smith and Steve as they talk dogs and all things coon hunting in this, the last Gone To The Dogs podcast of the 2021 year. Happy New Year! The excitement on the last day was a great send away. But it was intense until we were able to get the dog back on the ground. In this episode Steve visits with Tom Hopkins of Marshall, Texas.Tom owned, trained and handled what was perhaps the most famous Treeing Walker Coonhound in the history of coon hunting, the immortal House's Lipper. Lipper distinguished himself in competition and in the breeding pen by winning major championships and by producing more that 5000 pups, not including those that were born through frozen semen breeding. Lipper's record in that regard is most likely never to be broken. Lipper was making news before he was a year old and won the prestigious PCA National Championship, the prize package of which included a pickup truck, dog box and other related awards at less than two years of age. He is the youngest Dual Grand Champion (Nite Hunt and Bench Show) on record. Steve, in this episode, persuades Tom to share the Lipper story from the first coon he treed at about seven months old to discussions about several notable Lipper offspring including House's Lawyer, Adios Lightning, House's Clint and House's Cash. Within the world of purebred coonhounds there exists seven recognized breeds, each with a national association that affiliates with the major coonhound registry, United Kennel Club. These associations exist not only to steer the future of the individual breeds within the registry, but also as a fraternity, or sorority as the case may be, of individuals devoted to the breed. None is more tightknit than the American Black and Tan Coonhound Association, Our guest in this episode, Matt Wachter of Gardendale, Ala., is a young man that chose the Black and Tan Breed early on in his coon hunting career and has benefited greatly from the mentors he has gained through his choice of breeds. One such mentor and personal friend is the late Doug Moore of Mt. Olive, Alabama.Moore recently passed at the age of 82.The dog talk at its finest in this episode is full of stories of hunting with Moore and other stalwarts of the Black and Tan breed of Wachter's experience. Although fanciers of Black and Tans will no doubt appreciate this episode most, the stories, accounts and benefits of a coon hunter's life within the confines of a given breed should serve to influence others to choose a similar path. Traveling to hunt in different parts of the country will expose your hounds to different terrain, different styles and different challenges. While in Wisconsin hunting with Ross Ellwagner, Heath saw all those in this trip. On the way to a Rodeo Heath and Ross had a conversation about training and how the timing of corrections can classic condition more issues that sometimes we don't think about. In this episode they talk about how that happens and how sometimes you are better off saving that correction for another day. South Alabama's Big Mama Thornton sang "Hound Dog" before Elvis Presley kickstarted his career with his own version. In Focus visits with filmmaker Robert Clem who shares Big Mama Thornton's backstory.
In this episode we journey to the village of Pope, in the southern tip of Panola County, Mississippi to visit with black coon hunter Rubert Morgan. At age 74, Morgan has worn many hats; farmer, auto worker, collegiate bull rider, community official and coonhound breed association director to name a few. Mr. Morgan provides an entertaining look at the life of a black kid growing up under segregation but also enjoying his lifelong dream of being in the outdoors hunting with hounds. Steve and Rubert met at the UKC Winter Classic in Batesville, Mississippi several years ago. Mutual friend, Kimberly Clark of Virginia, also black and also a coon hunter, urged Steve to bring Morgan onto the podcast and the result is an hour and several minutes more of dog talk at its finest. A confessed Bluetick aficionado today, Rubert has enjoyed all breeds through the years beginning with a spotted pup that, as a kid, he crawled under the family home to claim. The story of Spot and others good hounds through the years, pack the episode and there's even some looks at life as a black man growing up in a world where in many cases, he was the “only one that looked like me” in the crowd. You'll enjoy this one, guaranteed. We would like to thank those who support this podcast. Special thanks to Alpha Dog Nutrition and Double U Hunting Supply for sponsoring this episode. Send us a textDuring this episode, the bourbon flows as freely as the conversation. The only thing missing is Hound Dog, who ditched the guys for some good old down-home barbecue. Look at Hound Dog thinking with his belly as our boys in blue are left to stew in their thoughts of misconduct touched with just a flavor of misbehavior to guide them through the smothering waller of intellectual converstion. Tuning in you will find that our worldly scholars don't care about your politics as they explore such topics as; never piss off a woman, Chicago crime stats, if your going to carry a gun, then carry a gun. All this wealth of intellect coming at you fast and hard as you sip on your bourbon underneath your portective binky as you; yeah you guessed it...Enjoy the Ride. Similarities in age and geographical backgrounds make for easy conversation between Steve and his entertaining guest Leon Childers in this episode. Childers, born in eastern Kentucky, followed the path of many mountain-born boys whose families sought better jobs and better times in northern climes. For Childers, the move from the same area in which Steve's grandparents were raised, it was a move to western Ohio, particularly Fairborn, near Dayton. Steve and Leon bring the dog talk at its finest to the Gone To The Dogs microphones in an hour-plus of coon dog conversation the likes of which one won't experience from those of lesser ages. Steve is 78 and Leon is 82. Childers has owned some of the better Walker competition dogs of the past sixty years or more and has an AKC World Championship to his credit. The talk covers many of Childers' best hounds and stories about his handlers and his favorite hunts over the years. The conversation is organic. The entertainment factor is off the charts. Enjoy. We're celebrating our 10th anniversary all year by digging in the vaults to re-present classic episodes with fresh commentary. Today, we're revisiting our 2016 conversation with Mike Stoller. ABOUT MIKE STOLLERMike Stoller has written more than 60 songs that have appeared on the Billboard charts, including the #1 hits “Hound Dog,” “Kansas City,” “Yakety Yak,” “Searchin',” “Jailhouse Rock,” “Poison Ivy,” “Stand By Me,” “Young Blood,” “Don't,” and “Ruby, Baby." After Stoller and songwriting partner Jerry Leiber found early R&B success with recordings by Little Esther, Charles Brown, Ray Charles, and Big Mama Thornton, Elvis Presley turned their song "Hound Dog" into a #1 single on the pop, R&B, and country charts in 1956. Elvis went on to record more than 20 Leiber and Stoller titles, including the hits "Love Me," "Loving You," "Jailhouse Rock," "Treat Me Nice," "She's Not You," and "Bossa Nova Baby." Mike and Jerry signed an independent production deal with Atlantic Records in the mid-1950s, where they wrote and produced a series of hits for several artists, including the Drifters' "There Goes My Baby," "Dance With Me," and "On Broadway." Additionally, the pair wrote and produced all the Coasters' singles, including "Young Blood," "Searchin'," "Charlie Brown," "Along Came Jones," and "Poison Ivy." Other highlights from the Leiber and Stoller songbook include "Love Potion No. 9," which was a hit for both the Clovers and the Searchers, and "Is That All There Is," which was a hit for Peggy Lee. Eleven different versions of their song “Stand By Me” appeared on the Billboard charts over the span of 50 years, with the original version by Ben E. King hitting the Top 10 in both 1961 and 1986. Smokey Joe's Cafe, which included 40 Leiber and Stoller songs, opened in 1995 and became the longest running musical revue in Broadway history. Stoller received the prestigious ASCAP Founders Award in 1991, has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and is a member of both the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Cheyenne Cummings of Seneca, Missouri is known throughout the coon hunting world as one of the really good guys in the sport. And like their owner, Cummings' hounds wear the “really good” label, really good as well. One of them holds the PKC World Champion title and the other is a UKC Hall of Fame (5 time) Grand Nite Champion and Autumn Oaks National Grand Nite Champion, two the most respected titles in the game. And if that were not enough, his Redneck Backwoods Shack dog, a twelve-year-old Treeing Walker, is proving to be one of the most prolific stud dogs in the game. This episode covers some interesting topics including Cumming's background, the backgrounds and resumes of his big-winning hounds and his thoughts about the condition of the sport, now and for the future. As Steve reviews the achievements of Shack and Stogie, as well as other big-winning hounds the likes of ProSport truck winner Tin Cup and big winning Sliding Clyde, both sired by Shack, the listener will understand why Cummings is an important voice in the fast moving coonhound game of today.
