These struggles would later lead him on a path to better understand failure, pain, and the human condition. Today he uses all he has learned on his journey to help others perform at an elite level, regardless of their profession. He discusses his comprehensive approach, which includes elements of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health. The goal is to defeat what he likes to call “the negative insurgency” that comes with life. Our conversation was deep and far-ranging, covering everything from the benefits of taking cold showers to the intricacies of our brain chemistry in stressful environments like Navy SEAL BUD/S training. We cover so many important topics for anyone hoping to better handle adversity and achieve success in today's day in age. They follow up one struggling Miami team with another, as they discuss the Dolphins who have now lost 4 of their last 5 games (35:17) and have a New York Jets fan call in to give his insight about the upcoming matchup between the Fins and Jets at Hard Rock Stadium (47:13). I had never heard the 2004 World Series Champion Boston Red Sox referred to as The Idiots until right before recording with Sean, but after the chat, I can certainly say the name is fitting. A term of endearment for a bunch of lovable weirdos who somehow managed a series of miraculous occurrences after 80+ years of the Curse of the Bambino, the Idiots are surely worth chatting about as they were probably the most unlikely candidates to break the curse that had been in place since the Sox traded Babe Ruth to the Yankees. Sean was already a budding journalist (check out his columns at Thrillist!) during the series, so his interest and involvement as a college student surrounded by fellow Sox fans was at a prime time to be entrenched in the season. Along the way we come up with some new definitions for DFA, PED, and the Hot Stove season. It's more fun than making Jungle Juice in the locker room. Play ball!
ROYCE CLAYTON is a veteran of 17 Major League Baseball seasons.
