Ashley Nicholas is a rare breed. She is as passionate about bowhunting as anyone I have known, but she is equally passionate about following what God wants for her and sharing her faith when and where she can. As Content Creator for Final Descent Outdoors, she has found a place to exercise both her passions in one place. An up and coming star, Ashley is someone that is going to make an impact on the bowhunting community and for young ladies wherever she goes.
HUNTROVERSY! On this episode I talk with Grant Oldenburg about hunting industry gimmicks. Both products and ideas that he thinks are unreliable and to be frank, total BS. We also talk about things that we think are bullet proof in making an outdoorsman successful. Click play and listen along as we discuss our opinions on this topic.
On this week's episode Garrett covers Christmas gift ideas for the outdoorsman or woman in your life. He gives his top 5 gift ideas and then you hear from 5 other guests on this subject. Special guests include: Cody Jenkins - host of the Whitetail Legacy Podcast, Byron Horton - host of the Whitetail Experience, Mike Lemanski - host of Harvest Time Hunt, Shane Jones - professional hunting guide, and Ali Gualey - member of the Last Breath team. Thanks for tuning in, don't waste it!
On this episode of the DIY Sportsman podcast, Garrett breaks down his archery hunt success out of state. This hunt was during a firearms season as well. That pressure did play a role in strategy, but so did timing in proximity to the peak breeding timeframe of the rut. Garrett describes the thought process and strategy going in, how that changed over the first several hours in the woods, what type of sign he found to trigger setting up in a tree right away, and the play-by-play of the hunt. In addition, some of the details related to the frontal shot were broken down in this episode. Check out the Sportsmen's Empire Podcast Network for more awesome content!

Most people only get one chance at a mature whitetail buck each season, Tom Alford defies the odds and brings us an amazing self-filmed bowhunt!
Growing up, my father and I always considered the opener of Minnesota's gun season as the end of our bow season. The properties we hunted all had plenty of shotgun groups with permission as well, so we handed over the keys to the woods to the orange army. It never bothered me much, for the first week or so. But it didn't take long before the urge to get into a stand would take over. Eventually, I found a few places where I could bowhunt mid-week...
It's hard talk to my good friend and our podcast editor Logan Chartrand, especially as we draw closer to Christmas, without the conversation turning to Little Debbie. After taking care of that important piece of business, we also discuss the recent success that his son and father had in the woods during the Missouri gun opener. I love hearing those stories of hunters across multiple generations enjoying the outdoors together each fall. Here's to the Chartrands and countless other families like theirs that are keeping the sacred traditions of hunting alive.Chit chat aside, we dive into what you have all hopefully been waiting for: the unveiling of the 2023 HHAUSA 3D Shoot Schedule. Carefully thought out over the past six months (and with a considerable amount of prayer), we had to make some difficult decisions going into next year. That included saying goodbye to four great archery clubs in The Badger State. Rib Mountain Bowmen, Waushara Archers, Twin City Rod and Gun Club and Blackhawk Archers of Stevens Point will not be on the calendar for 2023. While we have made some great friends at those ranges and events over the years and appreciate all of their support, it was time for us to expand our footprint a bit.Dropping down from six to four shoots, we kick off the season in the Madison area with a two day 3D event at Blackhawk Archers in Verona April 29th and 30th. But that's not all. Joe Rhodes from The Kneistedt Foundation will be joining us to host a sporting clays shoot at the Oregon Sportsman's Club and Brian Austin and The Beastmode Archery Challenge will be putting on an endurance event at Tyrol Basin, both on Saturday the 29th. That evening, we will also be hosting a Meet and Greet at Tyrol with a few surprises for all in attendance. After a two month break, we head back to the Tomah Warrens Sportsman's Alliance for a two day shoot July 8th and 9th. In what is sure to be a fun weekend, the guys from Chase Nation and The Breaking Point will be on hand for some friendly competition with a twist. We look forward to making this our biggest and best event yet with TWSA in the heart of Cranberry Country.Four weeks later on August 5th and 6th we head to the Racine Instinctive Bowmen just south of Milwaukee. Don't be fooled by the name, these guys are serious about compounds and have an amazing range across nearly 200 acres. Partnering with Bowhunting.com and the Bowhunt or Die crew and can't wait to make this a regular stop on the tour. For those of you willing to fly in from around the country, this will be your best bet as the Milwaukee airport is a short drive with Chicago less than an hour away as well. The HHAUSA Banquet will return to Wisconsin Rapids on Friday, August 18th, hosted once again by Whitetails Unlimited. To make the weekend even more special and worth the trip, our fourth shoot of 2023 is just a 5 minute drive up the road at Antler Archers the 19th and 20th. Our hometown archery club, this shoot just keeps getting better each year. With a couple other things in the works for the weekend, you don't want to miss it.While the plan was to expand beyond state lines in 2023 with an event or two, that is still to be determined. We are still in talks to pull something together and if that happens, we will share it here first. Beyond excited about what the future holds for HHAUSA, we cannot thank you all enough for the continued support. Whether it's been attending a shoot, buying our HHAUSA apparel, making a donation to the cause or listening in each week, you are helping to make a difference in the lives of our Veterans, First Responders and Law Enforcement Officers. I may sound like a broken record but we are just getting started and I look forward to seeing you all soon on the range. Until then, Happy Thanksgiving and God bless! Joining me on the show is Brigg Neilson, an endurance mountain biking athlete who brings really solid knowledge for training and recovery that is very applicable to bowhunting. Brigg has a strong 10 year experience in what he calls a 'hobby' and what I call 'legit master athleticness'. Listen in to help refine how you train and get ready for bowhunting to make sure you're sustaining your energy to be able to pack out that animal off the mountain. Some of his suggestions may surprise you, but with his track record, they are critical to incorporate into your training and daily life. Got an addition for this episode? Share with me your training routines on Instagram @adam_buchanan. I am proud to welcome Curt Geier on the show. Curt is the head honcho at Working Class Bowhunter a podcast that I started listening to years ago. We talk about their journey of beginning the show to growing it into a full-blown brand at this point. We explore the topic of taking the "safe" route and working for retirement rather than pursuing your passion. Curt shares about leaving what most would consider the best job in town to be a full-time podcast host. I believe there's many great aspects to this show for anyone interested in pursuing their own dreams. Leave us a rating/review if you enjoyed this episode. Pliny met up with the guys from the Hooked Hunting youtube channel for a rugged archery elk hunt in the backcountry of Idaho. This was a six-day hunt with everything on our backs. Archery equipment, public land, no outfitter, we were determined to get it done in the most rugged way possible. While I did not end up narrowing a bull, this still turned out to be a powerful and challenging adventure in the mountains. In this episode, Pliny tells the story of the hunt, with a bit of reflection along the way. Heavy arrow setups with a high Front-of-Center (FOC) percentage and single-bevel, cut -on-contact broadheads built for optimal penetration, bone breaking performance and consistent pass-through's, are the basics of Troy Fowler's, (a.k.a the “Ranch Fairy”), arrow philosophy. But why? Can't you get the same total Kinetic Energy with a light arrow moving faster – and it will shoot flatter too? What about momentum? How is it different from Kinetic Energy and is it more important? What happens to an arrow's potential for penetration long after it leaves the bow? The Ranch Fairy answers these questions and more in this super informative podcast. Warning: You may be tweaking your arrow setup – or at least rethinking what you thought you knew. Watch on YouTube for the full effect – because Troy shows us telling charts that illustrate his points. As always, we want to hear your feedback! In this episode of The Happy Hustle Podcast, I share the story of recently bowhunting my first elk in the Montana wilderness. Let me preface this with, I am NOT a blood thirsty killer but rather a compassionate heart-centered hunter. I don't believe in factory farming and the torture that come with it therefore I would rather hunt and fish my own food. Only 3% of all bowhunts for elk are successful as they are one of the most intelligent and vigilant animals around. I learned a lot throughout this experience and had many valuable takeaways. I share the details of what went into this hunt and how it relates to you and your business. I get into these concepts: -Knowing your target -Studying the terrain -Waiting patiently -Focus and breathe -Be humble and grateful -No pain or suffering -Fishing vs hunting -The ethics of hunting Know that the nutrients from this hunt with feed my family and myself for likely over a year. I think you will get a ton of insights from this episode and maybe see hunting in an altered light. For more pictures and info on this episode, check out www.caryjack.com/podcastin.
