For the second time in this young season, the Edmonton Oilers will be looking to bounce back from a poor performance. The team failed to show up on Saturday night and by the time their game got to where it needed to be, it was too late. They dropped Saturday's game against the Montreal Canadiens by a score of 5-1. The good news is that they don't have to wait long to get their revenge as they'll take on the Habs tonight, with revenge on their minds. I went through some interesting numbers from last game and looked ahead to tonight's matchup in today's Pre Game Podcast, brought to you by YEG Burger and Nation Beer! On top of that, I also gave my take on what the Oilers need to do tonight if they want to get the win, went over some potential lineup changes, and shared my bet of the game, which I've now nailed two games in a row! Download the podcast right here in the article or head to Apple Podcasts or Spotify! Enjoy the game tonight, Nation Citizens!
The Oilers have their backs firmly against the wall. They're facing elimination in their best-of-five series against the Chicago Blackhawks and are coming off a heartbreaking game three loss. Tonight is going to be a real test for a rather inexperienced Oilers team as they try to stay alive against the likes of Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane, and Duncan Keith. If I'm being honest, I like the Oiler's chances of winning tonight. They haven't brought their best yet in this series and I think they're due for a good performance. I've said it a hundred times and I will say it again here, if the Oilers bring their 'A' game, they will win this series. Will they bring their game to another level tonight? Well, that's the ultimate question. What do they need to do if they want to force game five? That's what I went through today on the Oilersnation Pre Game Podcast (pres. by YEG Burger). You can download the podcast right here in the article or by heading to Spotify or Apple Podcasts! Don't forget to subscribe and leave a review! Enjoy the game Nation Citizens!
After turning in a much better performance in game two, the Oilers evened up their Qualifying Round series with the Chicago Blackhawks and tonight, they'll look to take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series. Game one was a crushing defeat and while the Oilers were better in game two, there is still some room for them to really improve. That's an encouraging sign. What needs to go right? What do they still need to improve on? I looked into that today in the Oilersnation Pre Game Podcast, presented by YEG Burger! The goaltending was better, the penalty kill was sharp, and the Oilers were able to sustain pressure at even strength much better than they did in the series opener. With all that being said, the Oilers still didn't have their 'A' game. If they find that next gear tonight and can carry it forward, I don't think Chicago will win another game in this series. That's far from a guarantee though and that's what makes tonight's game so intriguing. You can download the Pre Game Podcast (pres. by YEG Burger) right here in the article or bob Apple Podcasts & Spotify! Don't forget to hit the subscribe button as well! Enjoy the game!

Another Thursday is upon us and that means the boys from the Real Life Podcast were back with a brand new episode to get you through what's left of the week. On today's podcast, the boys were happy to welcome Emad from YEG Burger to talk a little bit about how the Sam Gagner interview came together as well as the Nation Burger Combo. To kick off today's podcast, the guys got started with a look at a few Nation initiatives that are happening right now, including the new NationBeer whip as well as the launch of NationCoffee that's could drop as early as next week. Changing gears, the conversation turned to Edmonton's pitch to be a hub city for the NHL's hopeful return, and what, if anything, that would mean for the local economy. Would bringing in 12 teams worth of players to Edmonton even benefit our city? Would there be any downside to our city hosting? Moving on, the guys spoke to Emad from YEG Burger for a few minutes about what it has been like to work with Sam Gagner on May's burger of the month, tomorrow's burger party collaboration with Oilersnation, and what locked him as an Oilers fan for life. Lastly, the boys wrapped up today's episode with a look at the Oilers versus Blackhawks play-in series that will hopefully happen in July and what to expect from two teams that haven't played in months.
After skipping the Monday show because of the long weekend, the boys were back with a brand new episode of the Real Life Podcast and were thrilled to welcome Sam Gagner to the show to talk a little bit about life in quarantine, backyard rinks, the Edmonton Oilers, and a whole lot more. With limited time to talk to Sam Gagner, the boys jumped right in with a look at the Burger of the Month he's doing with YEG Burger and why he felt like it was important to support the Edmonton Food Bank during these strange days. Speaking of strange times, Gagner spoke a little bit about how he's been living while on lockdown, including some talk about staying in shape and building backyard rinks. If you didn't know, Gagner's dad, former NHLer Dave Gagner, started a company called Custom Ice Rinks that builds custom ice skating rinks all over the place and that inspired Sam to build one of his own. Changing gears, the conversation was steered back to life in Edmonton and the potential for our city to become a Hub City for the NHL provided that they're able to safely resume play, and Gagner had plenty of thoughts on why it would work. As an unquestionable fan favourite, Gagner graciously faced a barrage of questions from the boys about his time with the Oilers, including a look at the Kid Line from his rookie season, his remarkable eight-point night, playing at Rexall Place, and a whole lot more.
The Oilers will play host to the Winnipeg Jets for the second time in just 12 days tonight as they continue their four-game homestand. Since the last time these two met, the Oilers have gone 3-1-1, in large part thanks to their goaltending while the Jets have won three in a row and have only allowed three goals against in that span. The Oilers will be trying to make life a little easier on their goaltenders, who have faced 168 shots in their last four games. They've surrendered 40+ shots in three of their last four while the Jets haven't surrendered 40 shots since February 1st. Edmonton will need to be much better at even strength tonight if they want to win but they'll also need to get some looks on the powerplay. They've only had two attempts in the last three games. It was a close game when they met at the end of February and I expect the same tonight. Connor McDavid is expected to be back tonight, which is a very positive sign, and Mike Smith is expected to get the start. I go through all the lineup notes in today's Pre Game Podcast (pres. by YEG Burger)!
It's a battle for the top spot in the Pacific Division tonight at Rogers Place as the Vegas Golden Knights roll into town. The Oilers have won four of their last five games but haven't looked great in the process, being outshot in four of those five games. Vegas has won eight of their last ten, including a big win over the Calgary Flames last night. Vegas is 7-3 in the second half of back-to-back games this season and considering that they now have two number one goaltenders, it's easy to see why they've been so difficult to beat as of late. Lineup notes, stats, and more in today's Pre Game Podcast (pres. by YEG Burger)!
After a three-game road trip, the Oilers return to Rogers Place tonight for a matchup against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Both of these teams are coming off disappointing performances as the Oilers dropped a 4-3 decision in Chicago earlier in the week while the Blue Jackets blew a late 2-0 lead down in Calgary on Wednesday. They're both in tight playoff races and they'll both be desperate for two points tonight. The Oilers have dominated the Jackets over the last few years, winning four of their last five meetings, outscoring Columbus 22-11 in the process. As always, I give you all the important stats and lineup notes in the Pre Game Podcast (pres. by YEG Burger)! You can download it right here in the article. It's also available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Google Play!
The Oilers will be gunning for the clean sweep of their three-game road trip through the Central Division. They're in Chicago tonight to face a Blackhawks team that, like the Oilers, is currently riding a three-game winning streak. It's been an up and down season for the Hawks, who sit well outside of the wild card race in the Western Conference but they still have the potential to be a dangerous team. They've gone up against the Oilers twice and split those two games. Mike Smith gets the start once again for the Oilers tonight and they'll once again have a new-look top line! I go through it all on the Oilersnation Pre Game Podcast (pres. by YEG Burger)!
Last night, the Oilers made a statement to the rest of the NHL with their five-goal third period against the Nashville Predators. They are dangerous and they are very hard to beat. Tonight, they continue their tough Central Division road trip with a stop in Dallas. If you want to feel positive about the Oilers chances tonight, look no further than their record in back-to-back games. It's going to be difficult for the Oilers to pry away two points tonight but considering the way this team is rolling, I don't see how you can bet against them. Lineup notes, important stats, and more in today's Oilersnation Pre Game Podcast (pres. by YEG Burger)!
After a huge win on Saturday night against the Jets, the Oilers begin a three-game road trip through the Central Division. Tonight, they'll look to complete the season sweep of the Nashville Predators. They picked up two wins against the Predators already this season and Leon Draisaitl has been a big reason why. His two third period goals propelled them to a victory back in February and he had three points when the Oilers won in January. In his last five games against Nashville, Leon has 14 points. He loves playing against this team and the Oilers will need him to produce tonight if they want to beat a Preds team that has won three of their last four games. The Oilers will also welcome Kailer Yamamoto back to the lineup tonight and there is more good injury news coming as both Oscar Klefbom and James Neal are expected to play at some point on this road trip. The Oilers will also have a new-look top line tonight as they begin a tough stretch of road games. I go through it all on the Pre Game Pod (pres. by YEG Burger)!
After grabbing three of a potential four points on their recent road trip, the Oilers return to home ice tonight to face a Winnipeg Jets team that currently sits just outside of the Western Conference playoff picture and should be very desperate to pick up two points tonight. Both of these clubs have been hit hard with injuries over the last month. The Jets have ten players listed on their injured list right now but could get two impact players back tonight as both Patrik Laine and Josh Morrisey are going to be game-time decisions. For the Oilers, they won't be getting Kailer Yamamoto back in the lineup, Dave Tippet says he's close to returning but it won't happen tonight. The team will get Zack Kassian back in the lineup tonight now that he's finished serving a seven-game suspension. It's a welcome sight for an Oilers club that will look to get back on track after dropping their final two games on the road. With all the players out of the lineup and a handful potentially returning, there is no shortage of topics in today's Oilersnation Pre Game Podcast (pres. by YEG Burger)!
After dropping the final game of their homestand, the Oilers begin a three-game road trip tonight as they head to the Staples Center to take on the LA Kings. While the Kings do sit dead-last in the Western Conference, they have been playing pretty well as of late with a record of 3-1-1 in their last five games. They've also been a decent home team this season with an above .500 record on home ice. Don't let the standings fool you, this will be a tough matchup for the Oilers. Edmonton will get a major boost tonight as Connor McDavid will return to the lineup for the first time since suffering a quad injury back on February 8th. The Oilers managed to play pretty well, going 3-2-1, without their Captain in the lineup but his return is certainly welcome. They're also getting the Kings on the second half of back-to-back games. What could the lines look like with 97 back in the mix? What do the Oilers need to do to snap their two-game losing streak? I break it all down in the Pre Game Podcast (pres. by YEG Burger)!
The Oilers will wrap up their quick two-game homestand tonight as they host the Minnesota Wild from Rogers Place. Despite some positive progress in his recovery, Connor McDavid will not be in the lineup tonight but considering how well they've played in the five games without him, the Oilers shouldn't be too phased by that news. Dave Tippett is likely going to roll with the same lineup that stole a point against the Bruins. I broke down the whole matchup in the Pre Game Podcast (pres. by YEG Burger)!
The Edmonton Oilers are back on home ice after a three-game road trip that most considered wildly successful considering the circumstances around it. Tonight, they get another tough test as the best team in the league, the Boston Bruins, rolls into Ice District. Boston has been playing some tremendous hockey as of late with just one loss in their last ten games. Edmonton is going to need quite the performance from their depth forwards, young defenseman, and their goaltender if they're going to want to grab two points. It will need to be the definition of a true team effort tonight from the Oilers. Plenty of topics to get to today in the Pre Game Podcast (pres. by YEG Burger)!
The Oilers will look to conclude their three-game road trip with a win this afternoon as they head to Raleigh, North Carolina to face the Hurricanes. Edmonton scooped up an impressive two-points on Saturday afternoon when they beat the Florida Panthers by a score of 4-1 and that win was huge considering today's opponent. While the Canes do currently sit outside of the playoffs, their +27 goal differential is the best of any team not holding a playoff spot. They're also one of the best teams in the league at generating shots and preventing them. This will be a very tough test for a depleted Oilers lineup. I go through the matchup and the important stats in the Pre Game Podcast (pres. by YEG Burger)!
After dropping the first game of their road trip, the Oilers will look to get back in the win column this afternoon as they head to Florida to face the Panthers. The Oilers are currently without their entire top line as Connor McDavid, James Neal, and Zack Kassian are all out of the lineup but they'll go up against a Panthers team that has really struggled to keep pucks out of their net as of late, giving up at least four goals in three of their last five games. They also have just two wins in their last seven games and currently sit five points out of a playoff despite having the exact same record as the Oilers. I go through the numbers and lineups ahead of this afternoons game on the Pre Game Pod (pres. by YEG Burger)!
After finishing off their homestand with a victory, the Oilers hit the road for three straight as they continue life without their Captain. Tonight, they'll face a Tampa Bay Lightning team that is also battling through multiple key injuries. The Lightning won't have their two leading scorers, Nikita Kucherov and Steven Stamkos, and their best defensive centre, Anthony Cirelli. Still, they have a very talented group and they've been the best team in the NHL since the calendar flipped to 2020 with a record of 16-2-1. It will be a tough test for an Oilers team that is looking to keep the ball rolling after a highly entertaining win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday. Dave Tippett will be rolling with the same lineup he had last time out and you can't really blame him either. It worked well against Chicago and that game should have given them some confidence as they begin a stretch of games that sees them play four straight games against teams currently holding playoff spots. One thing that should have Oilers fans feeling good: this team has dominated the Eastern Conference this season with a record of 14-6-2 and are 8-1-1 when playing in an Eastern Conference city. I go through the matchup and all the numbers you need in today's Pre Game Pod (pres. by YEG Burger)!
Looking to put a halt to their two-game losing streak, the Oilers play host to the Nashville Predators tonight in matchup that carries some serious playoff implications. After a pair of big, emotional wins last weekend, the Oilers fell flat in back-to-back games against the Coyotes and Sharks. Considering how close the Western Conference playoff race is, this team can hardly afford to drop a third consecutive game especially when you consider that the Preds sit just three points back of the Oilers. The Predators have dominated the Oilers over the past few years, winning 14 of their last 16 meetings, but the Oilers actually won the only meeting between these two teams earlier this season. It was a 4-2 win that saw the Oilers powerplay get two goals and their two leading scorers, Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, each get three points. If the Oilers want to grab two points tonight, they'll need a similar effort and considering the lack of results they've gotten from their powerplay recently, any sort of success would be welcome. I go through all the numbers and line up notes you need to get set for tonight's game in the Pre Game Pod (pres. by YEG Burger)!
The Edmonton Oilers will look to bounce back from their loss in the desert as they welcome the San Jose Sharks to Ice District for a Pacific Division showdown. In the past, this is a matchup that would have Oilersnation nervous. The Sharks have been a Cup contender for the last decade but this year has been a very different story. They currently sit 13th in the Western Conference and have the worst goal differential in the conference at -39. The Oilers should be highly motivated coming off a loss to the Coyotes and tonight's game against the Sharks presents a great opportunity to get back in the win column. One thing the Oilers have been great at this season is bouncing back from losses. On the year, they are 12-7 when coming off a regulation loss. I expect the Oilers to put forth a very good effort tonight. Head Coach Dave Tippett is going to the blender when it comes to his forward lines as well tonight. There are some interesting combinations and I broke them all down in the Oilersnation Pre Game Podcast (pres. by YEG Burger)!
After a pair of very impressive victories over the weekend, the Oilers will head to the desert to face a struggling Arizona Coyotes team. While Edmonton has been rolling as of late, with points in nine of their last ten games, the Coyotes have been quite the opposite with just two wins in their last ten. Edmonton has done well against Arizona so far this season grabbing five of a potential six points. In fact, the Oilers have had their number over the last three years with a record of 8-3-2. With a win tonight, they can extend their lead over the Coyotes to five points. I speculated on how things could play out and dug into some interesting stats surrounding these two teams in today's Pre Game Podcast (pres. by YEG Burger)! You can download it right here in the article or by heading to Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or Google Play!
After a big win over the St. Louis Blues, the Oilers will look to avoid a fourth straight loss to the Calgary Flames tonight as they roll into the Saddledome for the fourth Battle of Alberta of the season! The Oilers should be feeling pretty good about themselves after not just beating the defending Stanley Cup Champions, but really outplaying them for the majority of that hockey game. They'll need a similar effort tonight if they want to beat the Flames and continue to stay on top of their provincial rival in the Pacific Division standings. The month of January was very kind to the Oilers. Things weren't looking good in December but they started 2020 with a very impressive road trip and are now 7-1-2 in their last ten games. They're getting contributions from every part of their lineup and they're getting solid goaltending that actually looks sustainable. I gave my big key to tonight's game and broke down the Oilers lineup in today's Pre Game Podcast (pres. by YEG Burger).
The Oilers hit the ice for their first of two games this weekend as they host the defending Stanley Cup Champions. The Oilers have had a really tough time beating the Blues as of late. In their last five matchups, the Oilers have just one win and it came in a shootout. Despite their tough record against the Blues, there's reason to be somewhat optimistic about this matchup. If you take out empty-net goals, both of their games this season have been decided by one goal and in each of those games, the Oilers came very close to tieing the game up late. Tonight will be interesting. The Blues will be playing their third of four games in Western Canada tonight. They beat the Flames but lost to the Canucks to start the trip and actually have just one win in their last four games. The injury bug has hit the Oilers as the team placed both Joakim Nygard (hand) and Kris Russell (concussion) on injured reserve last night. They recalled Tyler Benson and Will Laggesson but due to travel, neither player will draw into the lineup. I go through the expected lineup and the starting goaltenders in the Pre Game Podcast (pres. by YEG Burger).
After a ten-day hiatus, the Oilers return to the ice tonight and start their sprint to the playoffs with a massive matchup against the Calgary Flames. As expected, there is no shortage of storylines heading into tonight's game. The two points is obviously a priority for both sides with the Oilers currently trailing their provincial rivals by just one point in the Pacific Division standings but there's also the Tkachuk/Kassian beef that has both fan bases buzzing. It should be a wildly entertaining night at Rogers Place. I dissect some pre-game audio from both sides of the Battle of Alberta and went through tonight's lineups. You can download the podcast, which is presented by YEG Burger, right here in the article or by heading to Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or Google Play!
The Oilers are coming off a wildly successful road trip that saw them snag seven out of a potential ten points. The Oilers are back on home ice and probably feeling pretty good about themselves. They now enter a stretch where they play four rather important games spread out over the next 18 days. It all starts tonight as they welcome the Nashville Predators to Rogers Place. The Oilers will be without Zack Kassian as he begins serving a two-game suspension, which creates a hole on the team's top line. Head Coach Dave Tippett also has an interesting decision to make when it comes to his starting goaltender tonight. I go through everything you need to know about tonight's matchup on the Oilersnation Pre Game Pod (pres. by YEG Burger).
Looking to win their third game in a row for the first time since October 18th, the Oilers roll into Montreal tonight to face the struggling Canadiens. These two teams could not be sitting in more opposite spots right now. The Habs have lost seven games in a row heading and their playoff chances appear to be all but dead while the Oilers are coming off two of their most impressive wins of the season and are battling for a playoff spot in a very tight Pacific Division. I explain more and go in-depth on tonight's matchup in the Pre Game Podcast (pres. by YEG Burger)!
After picking up a surprising victory over the Boston Bruins on Saturday, the Oilers will look to collect their third win in four games as they roll into the Scotiabank Arena for a matchup against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Edmonton should be a confident group right now, they have picked up at least a point in three straight games, but they'll be in tough tonight. The Leafs are 9-0-1 in their last ten games and are averaging close to five goals a game in that span. On top of that, the Oilers will be playing in a building that they haven't won in since 2010. This will certainly be a big test for the Oilers, who are currently holding onto a wildcard spot in the Western Conference. Dave Tippett is expected to keep his lineup the same tonight and that includes giving Mike Smith the start. I broke down that decision and more in the Oilersnation Pre Game Pod (pres. by YEG Burger)!
After blowing an early 2-0 and eventually losing 3-2 in overtime to the Buffalo Sabres, the Edmonton Oilers will continue their five-game road trip this morning with a matchup against the Boston Bruins. While the Bruins have racked up the second-most points in the league, they are currently in a bit of a weird funk. On one hand, they have lost two in a row, to Columbus and New Jersey, and have just four wins in their last ten games. At the same time, they have five OT or SO losses in that span and have still managed to at least grab points in nine of their last ten games. They are getting healthy as well with Charlie McAvoy returning to the lineup. This morning, or afternoon depending on what time zone you're in for the game, the Oilers will look to pick up at least a point for a third straight game. for a while, afternoon games were considered the Oilers kryptonite but, the team is actually 2-0-1 so far this early in Saturday matinee games (wins over NYR and PIT. Also an OTL to the Stars). Plenty to get to in this morning's Pre Game Pod (pres. by YEG Burger) and I was even joined it studio by a special guest! Download it right here in the article or by heading to Apple Podcasts, Spotifty, or Google Play!
After a thrilling win over the New York Rangers on New Year's Eve, the Oilers will look to win back-to-back games for the first time since November 23/24 as they begin a five-game road trip tonight with a matchup against the Buffalo Sabres. It's been a rough stretch for the Oilers but luckily for them, they get a matchup tonight against a Sabres team that also really struggled in the month of December. Buffalo has dropped four in a row and have just three wins in their last ten games. Some lineup changes to go through and more in today's Pre Game Podcast (pres. by YEG Burger)!
After being picked apart by their provincial rivals on Friday night, the Oilers return to action tonight with a match for a matchup against the New York Rangers. The Oilers are stuck in a rut right now. They're 2-7-1 in their last ten games and have just one win in their last six home games. It's currently a very dark time around Oilersnation but the team has a great chance to bounce back tonight as they take on a team that they've had some recent success against. The Oilers beat the Rangers 4-1 earlier this season and have picked up wins in three straight games against New York. There will be some fresh faces in the lineup tonight as both Kailer Yamamoto and William Laggesson have been recalled from Bakersfield. Both will be in the lineup tonight and it will be Laggesson's first career NHL game. Lots of other lineup changes to discuss heading into tonight's game as Head Coach Dave Tippett is opting to put Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins on separate lines. I broke it all down in the Pre Game Podcast (pres. by YEG Burger)!
When the schedule came out over the summer, there was one game that I immediatley circled on my calendar. It was the first Battle of Alberta and the time has finally come. It's the Oilers vs the Flames. It's the first meeting since these two teams swung a stunning offseason deal that saw Milan Lucic head south and James Neal join the Oilers. There is more than just bragging rights between the fan bases on the line tonight. There are a handful of players looking to make their former clubs look stupid for letting them go and, for the first time in what seems like forever, these two teams are battling for a playoff spot. I go through some important lineup notes and some interesting locker room audio in today's Pre Game Podcast (pres. by YEG Burger)! Download it right here in the article, or, by heading to Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or Google Play!
After taking down the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night, the Edmonton Oilers will look to win a second straight game for the first time since November 24th tonight as they head to Vancouver to take on a Canucks team that sits just four points back of the Oilers with two games in hand. This is their final game until the Christmas break but the Oilers cannot afford to mail it in early. This is a crucial game for them and their playoff hopes. I take you through the expected lineups for both sides and give you some key numbers ahead of tonight's game in the Pre Game Pod (pres. by YEG Burger)!
One word to sum up the Oilers' loss to the Penguins: frustrating. They needed a save from Mike Smith, a big powerplay goal, or a goaltender interference call to go their way. They didn't get any of those and now their playoff spot in the Pacific Division is in jeopardy. Tonight, they'll need to play desperate hockey as they welcome the Montreal Canadiens to Rogers Place. If you're looking for a reason to believe the Oilers could win tonight, look no further than their recent history against Montreal. In the last three seasons, they have a record of 4-1-1 against the Canadiens. Last season, in two games, Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl combined for nine points in two games. Plenty of storylines to discuss heading into a massive game for the Oilers. I broke it all down in today's Pre Game Pod (pres. by YEG Burger)!
After dropping a close, one-goal decision to the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday night, the Oilers return home to face the Pittsburgh Penguins. With just three games to go until the Christmas break and the Oilers clinging to a playoff spot, this weekend's games are crucial. With Sidney Crosby and a pair of big-name defensemen not in the lineup for the Penguins, the Oilers certainly have a chance tonight. I go through all the injury notes, some interesting lineup decisions from Dave Tippett, and more in today's Pre Game Pod (pres. by YEG Burger)!
After snapping out of their four-game losing streak on Monday, the Oilers will look to wrap up their brief two-game road trip tonight with another victory as they roll into St. Louis to take on the defending Stanley Cup Champions. The Blues are red-hot right now with wins in their last three games. Not only are they getting wins, but they're dominating play as well. They've held their opponent to under 30 shots on goal in each of their last three wins and have fired over 35 shots on goal in their last two games. Tonight will be another very tough test for the Oilers. I go through some interesting numbers and more ahead of tonight's game between the Blues and Oilers in the Pre Game Podcast (pres. by YEG Burger)!
The Edmonton Oilers will look to snap out of their season-long four-game losing streak tonight as they begin a quick two-game road trip from Dallas. The Oilers are facing some serious adversity right now and if they don't start winning soon then they will find themselves on the outside looking in when it comes to the Western Conference playoff race. I went through the new lines and some big numbers to get you set for tonight's matchup in the Pre Game Podcast (pres. by YEG Burger)!
For the first time this season, the Oilers have lost three games in a row and that comfortable lead they once enjoyed at the top of the Pacific Division has completely withered away and now they'll have to string together some wins just to stay in a playoff spot. Tonight, they welcome the Toronto Maple Leafs to Rogers Place. I go through all the numbers and lineup notes in the Pre Game Podcast (pres. by YEG Burger) and let you hear from Oilers Head Coach Dave Tippett ahead of tonight's game.
For the first time this season, the Edmonton Oilers are sitting in first place in the Pacific Division. They lost a game to one of the worst teams in the NHL earlier this week and now, they'll be given a chance to bounce back against another bottom-feeder: the LA Kings. Not only do the Kings sit 29th in the NHL in wins, but they're also dead last when it comes to road wins with a record of 2-10-1. They've lost two in a row coming into tonight's game as well. There is no such thing as a guaranteed win night with the 2019-20 Edmonton Oilers. They've lost 'gimme games' to Minnesota, Detroit, Ottawa, and Los Angeles already this season and tonight is no different then those games. The Oilers should be highly motivated tonight and their opponent is not very good. This is a game they NEED to win if they want to be a playoff team. Plenty of interesting line-up notes ahead of tonight's game due to the fact that they have some key players out with injuries. Also an interesting decision between the pipes with both goalies struggling right now. I broke it all down in today's Pre Game Podcast (pres. by YEG Burger)! Download it now!
Despite missing a handful of regulars due to injury, the Oilers found a way to gut out a victory on Sunday night in Vancouver. It was a big win over a divisional opponent that is sitting just outside of the playoff picture and it allowed the Oilers to stay on top of the Pacific Division. Tonight, they welcome the Ottawa Senators to Rogers Place. All the stats, notes, and audio you need for tonight's game are in the Pre Game Podcast (pres. by YEG Burger)
Last night may have been the most disappointing loss of the season for the Edmonton Oilers. Returning home and playing in a nationally televised game against a division rival, the Oilers laid an egg. They simply did not play very well. Now, the task gets even tougher as they'll need a road victory to salvage the split in their home and home. Plenty of locker room audio from last night's loss and more in today's Oilersnation Pre Game Podcast (pres. by YEG Burger).
The Oilers conclude their five-game road trip tonight as they head to Colorado to take on the Avalanche. After a flat performance in Los Angeles, the Oilers rebounded with back-to-back wins over the Vegas Golden Knights and the Arizona Coyotes. Those two wins were enough to keep them on top of the Pacific Division and tonight, they'll look to widen the gap between themselves and the rest of the division as they face an Avalanche team that has dropped back-to-back games. I take you through all the numbers and notes you need to get ready for tonight's game in the Pre Game Podcast (pres. by YEG Burger)!
After dropping the ball against the LA Kings, the Edmonton Oilers showed up and redeemed themselves last night in Las Vegas. They got a little bit of production from their bottom-six, a bounceback performance from Mike Smith, and five points from McDavid and Draisaitl. It was really a complete performance. Tonight, they'll look to keep rolling as they head to Arizona Coyotes. I discussed all the numbers and more in today's Pre Game Podcast (pres. by YEG Burger)!
After a disappointing showing against the LA Kings, the Oilers continue their road trip tonight from Las Vegas, Nevada. They'll be facing a Golden Knights team that is currently sitting five points back of them in the Pacific Division standings and is starting to gain some steam with points in each of their last three games. I shared some interesting post-game audio from the loss against the Kings and set up tonight's matchup against the Golden Knights in today's edition of the Oilersnation Pre Game Podcast (pres. by YEG Burger)!
After kicking off their road trip with a victory, the @Edmonton Oilers head to the Staples Center to take on Todd McLellan and the LA Kings. Tonight represents a great opportunity to grab another two points as they face a team that is undoubtedly going through a rebuilding period. Still, Todd McLellan has them playing some pretty good hockey as of late and they've won three of their last four games. Edmonton is starting to roll with points in eight of their last ten games. They'll look to keep that going tonight and I get you set for the game with stats, storylines, and more in the Pre Game Podcast (pres. by YEG Burger).
After blowing a two-goal lead in the third period against the Stars on Saturday, the Oilers will embark on a five-game road trip that features some very tough tests. The first one comes tonight as they head to San Jose to face a Sharks team that beat them just seven days ago and have rattled off six wins in a row. Tonight is a battle of the top team in the Pacific Division and the hottest team in the division. I discussed today's matchup and some other notes in the Pre Game Podcast (pres. by YEG Burger)!
Coming off a thrilling victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday night, the Oilers will look to keep the ball rolling this afternoon against the Dallas Stars. The Stars are coming off wins over the Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks to start their road trip and have been playing some good hockey as of late. Get set for today's game with stats, audio, and more in the Pre Game Podcast (presented by YEG Burger).
There have not been very many nights this season where you could say that the Oilers played bad. On Tuesday night in San Jose, they were flat out bad. From the goaltender on out, they did not bring it whatsoever. Tonight the team returns from their brief California road trip and will host a Colorado Avalanche team that is continuing to rack up wins despite the fact that they're missing two of their best players and their starting goaltender. Some interesting lineup notes for this game from an Oilers perspective as well including who Dave Tippett is opting to go with between the pipes. This is a crucial stretch for the Oilers as they look to hold onto the top spot in the Pacific Division. Seven of the teams next eight games come against opponents that either made the playoffs last year or are currently holding a playoff spot in the West. Another interesting matchup for the Oil tonight and I give you everything you need to know in the Pre Game Podcast (presented by YEG Burger)
Looking to win their third consecutive game, the Oilers head to San Jose tonight to finish their two-game road trip. The Sharks struggled out of the gate this season but recently have picked up their play. They're currently on a three-game winning streak. For the Oilers, they're coming off a pair of impressive victories over the Ducks and Devils. It's always been tough for the Oilers to win in San Jose but this Sharks team is not as dominant as they once were. I think this is going to be a very close game tonight. Lineup notes, the numbers behind the matchups, and your bet of the game are all inside today's Pre Game Podcast (presented by YEG Burger).
After capping off their homestand with 4-0 shutout victory over the New Jersey Devils on Friday night, the Oilers hit the road for a quick two-game trip down to California. Tonight their opponent will be the Anaheim Ducks, a team that started the year by going 6-2-1 in their first nine games but has since fallen back to earth and now sit sixth in the Pacific Division. Divisional games are going to be huge for the Oilers if they want to stay atop the Pacific and even though the Ducks have been slipping as of late, this is going to be a tough test for the Oilers. The rest of the month will actually be very crucial for this team as seven of the Oiler's next ten games come against divisional opponents. Goaltending has been tremendous for the Oilers as of late and is a massive reason for their continued success early in the season but their depth scoring has also stepped up. Connor McDavid has factored into just two of the teams' last ten even-strength goals. Their last ten ES goals have been scored by seven different players. From line combinations to stats, I cover everything in the Oilersnation Pre Game Podcast (presented by YEG Burger)!
Looking to avoid a second straight loss, the Oilers welcome Taylor Hall and the New Jersey Devils to Rogers Place. The Oilers are coming off a disappointing effort against the St. Louis Blues that saw them crumble during the second period against the defending Stanley Cup Champions but they'll be given a great opportunity to bounceback tonight. The Devils should be a very tired group considering that they lost last night in Calgary and are currently four games through a five-game road trip. They'll also be going with Corey Schnieder between the pipes and he has struggled as of late, allowing 13 goals in his last two starts. Offensively, the Devils have cooled off as well. They have just three goals in their last two games. The Oilers will welcome a pair of players back from the injured list tonight as well. Riley Sheahan and Josh Archibald will both return tonight while Mikko Koskinen makes his return to the crease. I went through all the lineup notes for tonight and more in today's Pre Game Podcast (presented by YEG Burger)!
I think it's safe to say that the Edmonton Oilers are officially in a slump. They've lost three of their last four games and have failed to score more than two goals in each of those three losses. They're not getting anything from their bottom six but they have been getting exceptional goaltending and that's been keeping them close in every game. Tonight, they'll have a Blue Jackets team that is not only rested but have grabbed points in four of their last five games. Their current situation is pretty much the exact opposite of the Oilers. Looking to improve to 8-1-0 on the season, the Oilers will roll into Winnipeg tonight to take on a Jets team that has had a rough start to the season. They're 4-5-0, have lost three in a row, and out of their five losses, every single one has been by at least two goals. For the Oilers, they're coming off a pair of wins over Detroit and Philadelphia and are finding ways to get two points even on nights when they aren't at their best. The schedule has been kind to them and tonight is another example of it. They get to take on a Jets team that is struggling and has some of the worst special teams in the league. Their 17th in PP% and dead last in PK%. The Oilers are top five in the league in both of those categories. Given how the Oilers are playing and the way things have been going for them, I think it's fair to expect them to go out and get two points almost every single night. I went through all of that in today's Pre-Game Podcast presented by YEG Burger and also delivered my 'Bet of the Game' which is a staggering 0-5-3 to start the year!
Looking to keep their perfect start to the season going, the Oilers roll into Chicago tonight to take on a struggling Blackhawks team. While the Oilers have been doing nothing but winning, the Hawks have been doing the exact opposite. They've dropped three straight games to start the season and have been plagued by some inconsistent goaltending. The Oilers are coming off a win over the New York Rangers in which they played really well. They outshot and out-chanced the Rangers, got some timely saves from Mike Smith, and a pair of clutch goals from Connor McDavid and Leon Draisailt (what else is new). Despite the fact that the Blackhawks do not have a good record so far, this will be a tough matchup for the Oilers. Chicago is a veteran team that came into the year hungry to prove that last season was not the end of their dynasty years. The fact that they're 0-2-1 to start the season should have them playing a very desperate game tonight in front of their home crowd. It's also the final game of their four-game eastern road trip so their legs definitely won't be as fresh as they were when the trip started last week. I went through all of that and more in today's Pre-Game Podcast, presented by YEG Burger. After kicking off their road-trip with a win over the New York Islanders, the Edmonton Oilers will look to improve to 4-0 on the season as they roll into the Prudential Center to take on Taylor Hall and the New Jersey Devils. Everything seems to be going right for the Oilers right now. Their getting scoring from players not named Connor McDavid and Leon Draisait (big shoutout to 'The Real Deal James Neal'), the goaltending is holding up, and their penalty kill and powerplay are both top ten in the NHL through three games. On the other side, things have not been going well for the New Jersey Devils. They had a busy summer, adding Jack Hughes, Nikita Gusev, Wayne Simmonds, and PK Subban to a roster that already had Taylor Hall and Nico Hischier but the results haven't come yet. Through three games, the Devils are 0-2-1 and are in tough tonight considering they got shutout last night in Philadelphia and will be playing one of the hottest offences in the NHL. I get to all of that and more in today's Pre-Game Podcast, presented by YEG Burger, which you can download right here directly to your device or by heading to Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Soundcloud, or Google Podcasts!
The Oilers begin their first road trip of the season tonight when they head to the Barclays Center Nassau County Coliseum to take on the New York Islanders. After starting the season with a pair of wins on home ice against the Vancouver Canucks and the Los Angeles Kings, Edmonton will look to keep their undefeated streak alive as they face an Islanders team that is 1-1-0 to start the season. On today's pre-game podcast, I discuss Dave Tippett's decision to start Mikko Koskinen over Mike Smith, Riley Sheahan making his Oilers debut, and how the Oilers have matched up against the Islanders over the past few years. Spoiler: it's been a long, long time since they've won a game in Nassau. Also on the podcast, you'll hear audio from 'The Real Deal' James Neal and tonight's starter Mikko Koskinen, get a full betting preview for tonights game (including my bet of the night, which is 0-2 to start the year), and find out just how cheap tickets are to the game tonight in New York thanks to our friends at Vivid Seats.
