Many local small business are closing their doors today joining a national strike against President Trump's immigration crackdown in Minnesota and the killing of Alex Pretti last Saturday — and others are offering special promotions and discounts. Comedian power couple Jacob Rupp and Miriam Moreno join host Bree Davies and producer Paul Karolyi to talk about the “F*ck ICE Latte” moment. Plus, an open carry protest in Castle Rock was planned and abruptly cancelled — why? And we talk about Mayor Mike Johnston's new goals for 2026, his biggest political liabilities going into a likely re-election campaign, and our wins and fails of the week. Come see us tonight at Jacob and Miriam's comedy show! There are still tickets available for “Good Night Denver” at Dude IDK Studios at 8pm. Get yours here! Bree talked about Dr. Daddio and West Side Books' new era. Jacob talked about Nikola Jokić's injury, Duke's Good Sandwiches and Burgers, and Adam Cayton-Holland's movie at Sundance. Paul mentioned DougCo's new public comment policy, Johnston's latest move to resist Trump, the role of surveillance cameras in the Leetsdale fire investigation, and Sueños Cantina. Miriam discussed Legal Night at Centro San Juan Diego. What do you think is the most effective form of protest? We want to hear from you!

Beck Rivera makes folded book art, folding paper in such a precise way that an image emerges from within a book's pages. Each book is hand made and completely unique. He's created books that showcase images such as the Mona Lisa, William Shakespeare, a night sky over mountains, a bee, a whale, a tennis racquet and ball, chess pieces, a sailboat, and more. He also makes custom designs, patterns, tutorials and does demonstrations related to the art. On this episode, host Angela de Burger chats with Beck about what intrigued him about the world of book folding, the balance of technical and creative skills he uses, and how he develops the design for each folded book he makes. Hannah Austin is a kinusaiga and fabric collage embroidery artist who specializes in landscapes. She finds inspiration in nature and she stitches to feel a connection with her ancestors and her community. Hannah developed her skills in hand sewing and embroidery through her grandmother, who was an avid maker herself.Kinusaiga is a Japanese art form, founded and created by Setsu Maeno, that uses pieces of scrap fabric to create collage-style images. Hannah recently made a kinusaiga mini quilt to honour her grandmother's memory, based on the design of a full-size quilt her grandmother made for her. That project was a major hit on her social media channels, inspiring others to make their own projects in honour of loved ones. Hannah is an active member of the fibre arts community and shares her love of making fibre art through workshops as well as by teaching classes at the University of Oregon's Craft Center. On this episode, host Angela de Burger chats with Hannah about why fibre arts are so close to her heart, how nature and sustainability are areas of focus in her work, the way she developed her kinusaiga skills, and how teaching fuels even more creativity in her life. It's 2019 and plant-based meats are on fire. But they're also under fire. Supporters of the beef industry start a food fight with the plant-based meat industry. It kicks off on Super Bowl Sunday, with an aggressive TV ad. But Pat Brown's Impossible Foods fights back with an ad of its own. Meanwhile, Ethan Brown pushes Beyond Meat to grow at all costs. As debts mount, Ethan tries to get the king of burgers, McDonald's, to bite on a new plant-based patty. It's 2008 and two men, both vegans, ponder what they can do to improve the climate. Though they're on separate sides of the country and in different professions (but they coincidentally share a last name)— Ethan Brown is in the fuel cell business and Pat Brown is a lauded Stanford biochemist — they land on the same solution. They're going to try and lessen the climate impact of animal agriculture by making meat from plants. Ethan calls his company Beyond Meat and notches the first commercial breakthrough, a fake chicken strip. It's 2016 and both Pat Brown's Impossible Foods and Ethan Brown's Beyond Meat are cooking up plant-based burgers for mass consumption. Ethan tries to woo Whole Foods executives to carry his Beyond Burger in their stores from coast-to-coast. Pat's taking a different route. He's asking celebrity chefs to put his Impossible Burger — a plant-based meat that bleeds — on their menus. Soon enough, fake meat gets truly famous. But as Beyond Meat tries to cash in on Wall Street and as Impossible Foods gets its patties into Burger King, meat-raising ranchers in America's heartland are on the attack.
