From Eastern Conference Finalists in 2022 and 2024 to NHL bottom-feeder. The New York Rangers fall from the NHL's elite has been stunning with much of the blame being heaped on GM Chris Drury.Vincent Mercogliano covers the Rangers for The Athletic and joins Neil and Vic to do a deep dive into the current state of the franchise, how they got to this point and where they go in a 100th anniversary season that has been anything but memorable. In Three Things You Need to Pay Attention To, it took more than half of the season but we finally have a head coaching change. Also, the Lightning remain on fire while guess who's back in a playoff spot?IN THIS EPISODE:[01:43] – Three Things You Need to Pay Attention To[13:10] – Vince Mercogliano joins the show and delivers a very extensive breakdown of how things have fallen apart at MSG. The on ice product is visible to all but much of the issues of today have their roots going back as far as two years with several episodes taking place off the ice.[22:25] – Further elaboration on the acquisitions made by GM Chris Drury and why hasn't there been greater accountability from ownership?[26:04] – Perhaps equally distressing for the Rangers organization is an equally weak team in Hartford with three prospects continuing to struggle at the NHL level. Add in the underwhelming career of the first overall pick in the 2020 Entry Draft.[31:06] – Perhaps one of the biggest rubs with GM Drury has been his treatment of players. This coming from a former player, captain of the Rangers and a Stanley Cup Champion in Colorado.[34:10] – The future of Artemi Panarin.[37:13] – The positives Vince sees in the immediate amidst the mess of the 2025-26 season.[39:44] – Updates on Adam Fox and Igor Shesterkin[40:21] – More on Fox. Welcome to Daily Faceoff Live with Tyler Yaremchuk and Carter Hutton! We wrap up our mid-season grades today with the Pacific Division. The top of the Pacific is currently a tie between the Oilers and Golden Knights. Goaltending is a big question mark for both teams, with inconsistent play and injuries. Which team is the favourite to win the Pacific? We head out to California to look at the three teams and their opposing trajectories at this point of the season. Do the Kings belong in the realm with the Oilers and Golden Knights? Is the Ducks inexperience and lack of defensive play too much to overcome? What is the ceiling for the Sharks and Macklin Celebrini?Next, we go to the northern West Coast where we have Calgary, Seattle, and Vancouver who all are in a weird stage where the question is do they rebuild or do they retool? Will they follow the road map of up-and-coming teams like Chicago and San Jose, or will they try to follow Nashville and get veterans for a playoff push?Stanley Cup Champion Erik Johnson joins the show to talk about the Avalanche season, Gabriel Landeskog, Olympics, and horse racing.SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!!
Proud to have our good friend Glenn Healy join us this week! Glen is a Stanley Cup Champion with the 1994 New York Rangers, is 15 year year NHL veteran, and his ‘stand-on-his-head” goaltending was largely responsible for one of the biggest upsets in NHL history when the New York Islanders knocked off the 2 time defending Stanley Cup Champions, Pittsburgh Penguins led by legends Mario Lemieux & Jaromir Jagr in the 2nd round of the 1993 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Even with all of his success on the ice as a player, Healy is creating an even better legacy as the Executive Director and President of the NHL Alumni Association. Since being hired in 2017, Healy has focused on creating a successful mandate & structure in helping all NHL Alumni members transition from on-ice careers to successful, healthy lives away from the game. Not an easy task - chronic pain, addictions, mental health, and financial challenges are challenges for many players, particularly the NHL players who played before big salaries became more prevalent in the past few years… A tremendous player, and many say an even better leader in his capacity as leader of the NHL Alumni Association!! - so pleased to have Glenn Healy join our show this week! A fan favourite, a cult hero, and a man whose legend was built with his fists… one of the most colourful personalities in NHL history. The book is getting great reviews, and for a player better known as a “feared fighter”, as an author, he offers one of the most honest, emotional, and human hockey books in years. We are proud to have him back on the OverTime Hockey Podcast to share details of both his life on & off the ice, and share some insight to one of the most powerful books about life as an NHL Enforcer.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
