Ken gives us some great insight on why he thinks the pre-season is important and what his thought process is leading up to the beginning of a new NHL season. The three discuss the likelihood of a player making a team based off of performance in pre-season games, why he thinks these 8 games before the season is necessary & how it has helped players like Brendan Perlini shine. We also get into Josh Archibald's status with the Oilers as well as his health status after recent reports have come out about his current condition. To end the show, the three cover everything from how Duncan Keith has looked in the sample size that he has been with the team, Zach Hyman and how the Oilers are going to approach the season with two # goaltenders.

It's Friday afternoon and that can only mean that we've got a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio to help you finish off your week and make sense of all things Edmonton Oilers. On this week's show, we talked about what's been happening in the preseason, fans being back at Rogers Place, Ask the Idiots, and a whole lot more. To kick off this week's podcast we jumped in with a look at the preseason and specifically our biggest takeaways from the preseason so far. Whether it's the first line developing chemistry to the depth we now have in the organization to Brendan Perlini shooting the lights out, there are a lot of interesting stories to watch as we progress through the tune-up season and we tried to get to everything that came to mind. Getting back to the first line, we spent some time talking about whether or not the McDavid-Hyman-Puljujarvi line could develop into one of the league's best. Changing gears, Duncan Keith made his preseason debut this morning and caused a few waves with his takes on vaccination so we tried to make sense of the quotes and whether we're all making a bigger deal of it than we should be. With the vaccine talk out of the way, we got back into the fun stuff as both Tyler and Rick were in attendance for Tuesday's game against the Kraken, and it was fun to hear them describe what it was like to be back at Rogers Place for the first time in nearly two years. The boys both talked about how great the atmosphere was at the arena and it got me excited about when I'll be able to go back and just having fans in the stands in general. Lastly, we wrapped up the podcast with a little bit of betting talk after our announcement earlier in the week that The Nation Network has teamed up with PointsBet Canada for a new partnership that will launch all kinds of new content for the upcoming season.

The Edmonton Oilers have two of the premier players in the league. Is that enough? Probably not, so the fate of the team will depend on the supporting cast, which has been improved by offseason additions of Zach Hyman, Warren Foegele, and Derek Ryan. The Oilers have added Duncan Keith and Cody Ceci on the blueline and, well, you can see how that might pose some problems. The weekend may be over but that doesn't mean the fun has to end as the boys are back with a fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast to help you get through what's left of your Monday. In today's episode, the guys covered the Oilers' pre-season win over the Flames, climbing the oil derrick, and welcomed John Scott to the podcast to discuss all things hockey and preview the NHL season. To kick off the Monday podcast, the guys got started with a look at the Ryder Cup and specifically how funny it was to see Justin Thomas and Daniel Berger pounding back a couple of beers on day one of the tournament. Speaking of beers, the Oilers are setting up the oil derrick in Ford Hall near the beer gardens which prompted the guys to wonder how long it will take before some drunk dude decides to climb that baby. Getting the show back on the rails, the guys welcomed former NHL tough guy and Dropping the Gloves host, John Scott, to the podcast to talk about everything from sore hips, broken hands, and what it's like to play men's league as a retired NHLer. Looking ahead at the upcoming season, the guys asked John what he expects as the league goes back to its full schedule for the first time since the pandemic started. He also gave the boys a breakdown on what it will be like for the Oilers to have a future Hall of Famer like Duncan Keith in the dressing room. As someone that played with Keith for a couple of years in Chicago, Scott gave his take on how valuable it will be to have a veteran presence like #2 in the room. He also got the boys fired up with his takes on the Oilers that were not overly inspiring but it was definitely fun to hear everyone get fired up about it anyway.

It's Friday afternoon and that can only mean that we've got a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio to help you finish off your week and make sense of all things Edmonton Oilers. On this week's show, we talked about the latest news from training camp, the Josh Archibald conundrum, Ask the Idiots, and a whole lot more. Kicking off this week's podcast, we jumped in with a look at the Oilers roster and specifically who will be feeling the most pressure as we head into the 2021-22 season. Whether it's the goaltending or the defence or the forwards, there is a handful of guys that are likely feeling the heat to perform as we head into a new season, and it was interesting to hear everyone's takes on who has the most on their shoulders. From there, we looked at what's going on at training camp, including the absence of a few players for varying reasons from quarantines to lack of vaccination. Since we were talking about missing time, I asked the boys how big of a deal it is for a player like Duncan Keith to miss the first week of camp as he is still in quarantine after returning home from the States where he got the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Changing gears, how could I not spend a few minutes talking about Peter Chiarelli landing a new gig with the St. Louis Blues despite a horrific track record with the Edmonton Oilers when he was last employed. Does the NHL need a little more depth in their talent pool when it comes to management? Lastly, we wrapped up this week's podcast with another round of Ask the Idiots and a look back on the ups and downs from the last seven days.

Beloved goalie Pekka Rinne has officially retired -- will the team lose another big name in next week's expansion draft?Ka-boom! Did you hear that? That was the sound of the Central Division exploding. In the past week Pekka Rinne retired, the Minnesota Wild bought Ryan Suter and Zach Parise out of their contracts, Blues forward Vladimir Tarasenko requested a trade and the Chicago Blackhawks traded Duncan Keith to the Oilers, a move some are saying could result in acquiring Seth Jones. This week, co-hosts Michael Gallagher, Geert De Lombaerde and Megan Seling talk about what those recent moves mean for the impending expansion draft. Did the Wild get Suter and Parise out of the way so they could protect Matt Dumba? Should the Preds go for Tarasenko if they lose Duchene or Johansen in the draft? Would the Blues dare trade Tarasenko to a Central Division rival? Also discussed: The future of Nashville's goaltending. Is Juuse Saros ready for a 60-game season? Will David Poile invest in a veteran? Or is Connor Ingram ready to be the backup Nashville needs?Plus: Gallagher has a theory on some of the trade moves Poile might have up his sleeve in an effort to get what he wants out of the expansion draft.
