Warner Bros George Feltenstein and horror and monster film historian Tom Weaver take us through the December 2022 Warner Archive Blu-ray releases.  We start with the 1958 sci-fi horror film "Attack of the 50 Ft. Woman" starring Allison Hayes, Yvette Vickers, and William Hudson.  Tom provides background on the film and the unfortunate tragic end to stars Hayes and Vickers.  George details the 4K scan from the original camera negative to make a terrific new HD master. Then we discuss the John Huston-directed 1964 drama “The Night of the Iguana" starring Richard Burton, Ava Gardner, Deborah Kerr, Grayson Hall, and Sue Lyon.  This adaptation of the Tennessee Williams play is a showcase for the actors and director John Huston and the new 4K scan provides a wonderful clarity to the black and white picture.Purchase on Amazon:Attack of the 50 Ft. The Attack of the 50ft Woman (1954)   The 1958 science fiction film directed by Nathan H Juran and starring Allison Hayes, William Hudson and Yvette Vickers, was released as other giant monster films were being released.  Originally considered just a concept, the film would be put in production independently and released by Allied Artist.  The film dealt with a heiress who has an encounter with a UFO and is grown much to her philandering husband's dismay.   The Incredible Shrinking Woman (1981)   The science fiction comedy film directed by Joel Schumacher and written by Lily Tomlin and life partner Jane Wagner, stars Elizabeth Wilson, Lily Tomlin, Charles Grodin, Ned Beatty and John Glover, a take off of the 1957 classic film The Incredible Shrinking Man.  Lily Tomlin plays four parts in the film.  Interestingly enough, the film deals with chemicals that we use in our food and cleaning products and the adverse effect these have.    Opening Credits/Introduction (4.05); Man Messes With Nature (22.10); Attack of the 50 Foot Woman Trailer (23.54); Why God? Dumb Nerds: Comedians Talking About Smart Topics They're Too Dumb For

Today’s episode is all about body farms with Steven Ray Morris! ("The Purrrcast", "My Favorite Murder", "Mother, May I Sleep With Podcast"). Body farms are facilities used for the study of decomposition of human remains. Steven and Cassi talk about the history of how body farms got started with the first body farm, also called anthropological research facility, back in 1971 with anthropologist William M. Bass. There are now six in the United States and one just opened in Amsterdam in 2016. The aim of these farms is to gain a better understanding of the decomposition process and for forensic purposes, to permit the development of techniques for extracting information (such as the timing and circumstances of death) from human remains. Pretty cool right?! And if that’s not dark enough for you Cassi goes through the process of how the body decomposes while Steven and Cassi both drink some whiskey to help take in such realities of when the body dies, the blood stops circulating and solidifies, the skin changes color, organs decompose, there’s bloating, blistering and gases inside erupt and everything liquifies eventually leaving behind a skeleton. Fun! But don’t worry, that’s not all they talk about! They also talk about Dr. Pimple Popper, Steven’s hot tips on how to tell a New Zealand accent from an Australian one, the process of getting verified on Twitter, feminist writers like Zelda Fritzgerald, Emily Dickinson, Sylvia Plath and Virginia Woolf and which one you would want to go out as, the famous and possibly haunted Comedy Store and how our cats would eat us if we dropped dead in our house. Yeah, the conservation always finds it way back to dead bodies. Steven and Cassi talk fondly about crazy stories of people dying in their home and not being found for more that a year or longer like Joyce Vincent and Yvette Vickers. They also talk about the murder of Skylar Neese and contemplate what it would be like if hospitals microchipped us so as soon as we died, they would be notified and would be able to find our body quickly after death. Cassi and Steven also take time to talk fondly of people they have lost in their lives. It’s a deep and as lighthearted-as-it-can-be episode. Enjoy!  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Interesting Fact: Trent Reznor was the last resident of the house before it was torn down and the address was changed. He recorded 'The Downward Spiral' here in fact, in a studio he named 'Le Pig' as an homage(?) to the murder. He reportedly had not thought much of being in the house past it being a part of 'American Folklore', in his words, until he met Tate's sister by chance and she asked him point blank if he was trying to capitalize on her death. He ultimately moved out before the house was torn down, but he took the front door with him and uses it at the new version of his recording studio to this day. Interesting Fact: Paul Newman's wife, Joanne Woodward was none too pleased with Yvette's on set chemistry with Newman during the filming of HUD and saw to it that she was nearly cut out of the film entirely. This happened to Yvette more than once, who herself confessed to being flirty, but most certainly not a tramp and completely monogamous when she was with someone. Jealousy in Hollywood can be a true monster and it's fair to say that it contributed to the death of all of the starlets featured in this episode of our show.  Connections: Max Baer was friends with and briefly dated Sharon Tate. Sharon Tate was murdered in the house that Cary Grant and Dyan Cannon lived in after they got married. Cary broke up with Yvette Vickers to marry Dyan.  http://www.dorothystratten.com/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dorothy_Stratten http://www.people.com/people/archive/article/0,,20119405,00.html http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SahoSvAAbH4 http://www.findadeath.com/Deceased/s/Dorothy%20Stratten/dorothy_stratten.htm http://www.franksreelreviews.com/shorttakes/stratton.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/10050_Cielo_Drive http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sharon_Tate http://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/actress-sharon-tate-found-murdered http://www.findadeath.com/Deceased/t/tate/tate_murders.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lana_Turner http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnny_Stompanato http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheryl_Crane http://www.crimelibrary.com/notorious_murders/famous/lana_turner/8.html ...

Yvette Vickers played supporting roles in two unforgettable 1950's science-fiction movies: "Attack of the 50 Foot Woman" and "Attack of the Giant Leeches". As far as I'm concerned, she stole the show both times. But, Yvette Vickers is now dead. Or rather, she was found dead, on the 27th of April last year (2011). The conditions under which she was found, and the conditions under which she apparently lived her life near the end of it, evoke floods of compassion. They simply have to. How could this have happened? How could Yvette Vickers, our once-and-future (saucy) flame, have ended that way? This podcast -- I wouldn't mind calling it pastoral -- is an attempt to understand.
