Let's get bloody! This is an exploration into various films via audio essays, rapid reviews and fun discussions! We talk about everything! The good and the bad. The classics and what's new. If you like film, this show is for you!
Whiplash is one of the best contemporary films about higher education, passion and music. But is it about music or something more?I was stoked to have an actual drummer on the show to talk about the nuances in Whiplash - to include drumming! Hassanen Attabi is an author and musician. His book "Listen to Me" is available on Amazon and Target.
Hey everyone! This episode I talk with Jackson Delgado about a film so terrible that it makes me appreciate the finer things in life. Return of the Killer Tomatoes (1988) is the first sequel to the cult-classic Attack of the Killer Tomatoes (1978).Yes, this film is quite awful. But it's not without its charm. I found it funnier than expected and it has a fun performance by a very young and charismatic George Clooney.I truly appreciate my guest for recommending such a wayward choice for an episode. Jackson Delgado is an aspiring filmmaker and screenwriter from the San Diego area.He carries a lot of film knowledge and it was a treat to trade critiques with him on the value of cult movies.
My daughter Marissa is back on the show! This is actually a previously recorded episode from early 2021, so some of the material is dated. But, she and I had a fun quick chat about Venom! We also touched on the future of Spider-man movies and the MCU as a whole. This kid is so fun to talk with and I hope y'all enjoy!
Are you ready to BELIEVE?! This week I talk about Ted Lasso, the incredible soccer drama on Apple TV, with the wonderful human and therapist Nicole Rubin. From cultural differences to mental health significance, Ted Lasso is undoubtedly one of the most important shows right now. There's so much to unpack in only 2 short seasons, but we did our best! You may not learn a lot about soccer from this episode (because we sure don't know much about it either), but Nicole's insight into the mental state of the characters is so dang interesting! And that is something everyone can appreciate!Nicole Rubin, MS, LPC is a licensed therapist in the state of Georgia. Her private practice is listed here:https://www.soulsciencehealing.com
I'm back! It's been a wild year and I want to thank everyone for their support.I'll get right to it, I got accepted to go & cover SXSW (South by Southwest) in Austin, TX next March. My chat today is with Melissa Hannon, editor-in-chief for Horror Geek Life and 7-time SXSW-alum. She's a Texas girl, so we talk Texas! We chat about Texas culture, Texas food, and of course SXSW. We also cover the incredibly bad horror movie from the early 1980s called The Final Terror. Guys this was a great chat and I hope you enjoy it and I have more Blood Sweat and Popcorn coming soon!
Where has the time gone? Thanks for everyone's patience, I'm not out of this yet!
It is finally time to say adios and sayonara to one crazy year! In this quick wrap up, I want to thank all of those who have been on my show as guests and the many, many others who have supported me. I have accomplished some fun stuff this year, it's only going to get better in 2021!
What better way to celebrate the holiday season than an updated retelling of the classic folktale of the anti-Santa Clause? Adam Scott and Toni Collete star in this horror/comedy that makes you never want to drop the holiday spirit no matter who comes to visit. My sister Grace is my guest and we had a blast chatting about this modern Christmas favorite!
Happy holidays everyone! This top ten list covers my favorite Christmas classics and I even included some of the more fun holiday traditions I've cultivated through the years. Did any of my picks make your list?Side Note: I think this might've been my post fun and personal episode to date! I'm really proud of this one!
This audio essay dives into the similarities and differences between two of the greatest vampire classics to come out of the 1980s. From ethics to music, the staying power of these classics cannot be denied.
I don't know if there is any turning back for Mel Gibson, but at least he leans in hard into his role as a jaded Santa Clause. This thriller/comedy also stars Walter Goggins as the hamster-loving assassin hired to take out jolly old St. Nick. It makes you wonder what type of holiday film will come out next year that will try to push the envelope.
Some films stay with us forever. This 1985 vampire romp is no different. Join me as I reminisce about one of my favorite horror films ever! From the music, to the wardrobe to the fun characters, Fright Night has it all!
It's Freaky Friday with a horror twist! Come check out my rapid review of this horror/comedy tale by the creators of Happy Death Day! Starring Vince Vaugh and directed by Christopher Landon.
Zombies. They're just so dang fun. Between comic books, movies and video games, they just seem to be everywhere all the time. My guest Andrew and I explore why zombies are so much fun and what they mean to us and society.
Let's jolt back to the start of the century where zombies started going were fast! The shambling corpses weren't so slow and you had to get in some cardio in order to survive. Andrew comes back on the show and we dive deep into this remarkable entry into the zombie realm by Danny Boyle!
Spoiler free!!! It's finally here! The much anticipated sequel (prequel, actually) to the Friday the 13th fan film "Never Hike Alone" has arrived! This was so enjoyable. Great set pieces, performances, blood. It's everything you would want out of a Friday the 13th film. Check out my review, but more importantly, go see this film!
Zombies are still en vogue apparently with this action packed sequel to 2016's Train to Busan. This film centers on a small group returning to Korea (the Peninsula) 4 years after the initial outbreak and the events of Busan to retrieve money locked in a truck that they believe will bring them absolution. Once they land, they discover they aren't the only humans left in the zombie filled landscape. .
Millie Bobby Brown leads an amazing cast in this fun, inspired mystery adventure. Playing the younger sister of the famous detective, Brown's Enola Holmes is a true treat to watch. This is a perfect gateway movie for people knowing Brown only for her role in "Stranger Things" as she ascends into more mature -- but still entertaining -- territory.
Now out on Netflix, this film boasts an all star cast, including Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Bill SkarsgÄrd and Sebastian Shaw, that traverse the rough country life during the middle of the twentieth century. Crime, religion, passion and family move the characters around the board. This movie is heavy and packs a hefty punch. It is so tightly delivered though, you cannot look away.
Zombies on a train!!! South Korea once again delivers a solid film that delivers scares, chills and a huge heaping of heart. This was such an important film and every horror enthusiast should have it under their belt as required viewing. My guest Andrew returns and we have a blast catching up and talking anxiety and stress is this modern undead classic!
Here's a quick spoiler-free review of those most-excellent dudes in their latest adventure. Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter come together once again to save the world in this 2020 time-traveling comedy.

Who killed Mr. Boddy? And where? And with what?! This simple premise from the classic board game has since become a classic 1980s comedy! My very special guest Curtis joins me today, digging deep into why this super funny murder mystery is so timeless. Please go check out his show Two Guys and Some Horror if your movie podcast pallet leans heavy on scary movies. But stop reading and get to sleuthing, there's a mystery to solve! I totally love this film. Curtis loves this film. I hope you do too!
Honestly, who doesn't like Steve Carell's unforgettable character of Felonious Gru in this cute family comedy franchise? This episode was extra fun and extra special! Not because of Gru's minions, but because MY own minion - my daughter - was my guest. This film was her pick, and I couldn't think of a more perfect flick to review with her! Spoilers, but, we love this one! Enjoy the review and leave a rating!
Why do we as people like movies that we know are trash? Why do we spend money to see them? Follow my conversation with Oliver as we find these answers and acknowledge the art that is everywhere! Enjoy!
Bruce Willis vs an Asteroid! Holy Nineties Sci-Fi Action! This hokey and silly film from Michael Bay still reminds me of growing up when disaster movies sold a lot of movie tickets and Mr. Willis still had hair. My friend Oliver stops by and we talk all things Armageddon and why sometimes bad cinema isn't always a bad thing. Enjoy and please leave a rating!
Let's chat about DC! Drew and I discuss this amazing comic adaptation originally created by Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert. We break down the strong story, the violent tone and how much Thomas Wayne is NOT like Bruce Wayne. We also touch on the upcoming Snyder Cut, the Flashpoint Paradox live action and The Batman with Robert Pattinson. Enjoy and please give us a rating!
We all know the signature scraping sound of the knife cemented in our ears because of this film. Alfred Hitchcock crafted not only an amazing cinematic experience, but a legacy that we are still discussing 60 years later. The first slasher, arguably the first mainstream horror and certainly an unforgettable experience, Psycho was worth the two hour chat! Enjoy!
Between the galloping triumph of the MCU and the questionable success of the DCEU, here comes an animation masterpiece that was a breath of fresh air! Drew and I sit down to reflect on this inspired adventure that was as fun as it was mesmerizing! This one is truly flawless!
Are we fated to live a certain way? Can we ever do more for ourselves? The answers to these questions are explored in Bong Joon Ho's Parasite. This has become a new champion in the market of South Korean cinema. There are so many layers, both literally and figuratively, in this flick. It demands multiple viewings and challenges the audience to look at life through more empathetically.
The horror genre gets turned on its head in this 2019 American-Swedish film directed by Ari Aster. This was an unexpected surprise that provided a powerful emotional experience. Florence Pugh gives a dynamic performance amongst a strong ensemble cast that transports our American sensibilities into a nightmare of cultural underpinnings of relationships, family and life. I can never look at a bear the same way again.
This is how a reboot is done! With lots of swag, great ensemble chemistry, an all-to-familiar score and of course.... lens flares! This sci-fi romp is action packed with fun, danger and just enough fan service without being pandering. The all star cast, including Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Bruce Greenwood, Winona Ryder and briefly Leonard Nimoy & Chris Hemsworth, bring vibrance and an extra punch to Starfleet, making the USS Enterprise come to life! This was a great chat with our guest Lyndsi that will please any science fiction fan!
How do you catch a serial killer? Clarice Starling, FBI agent-in-training, employs an unorthodox method when she reaches out to the incarcerated, murderous Dr. Hannibal Lecter to find her answer. My guest Erica and I dissect and divulge in this wondrous, modern horror classic that tops both our lists as one of the greatest films ever made. Grab some popcorn, skip the liver, and enjoy our discussion on this brilliant cinematic masterpiece.
Science Fiction takes a gorgeous and interesting turn in this 2015 adventure starring Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum. Great visuals highlight this interesting take on destiny and purpose. My friend Lyndsi is my guest and she helps me breakdown the tropes and beats that make this fantasy sci-fi romp roll down the tracks. Also, who wouldn't want boots that could make you fly?
Let's go back to the 90's and chat what has become an indie film staple! My friend Jocelyn returns as my guest as we delve into this profane yet intellectual talking head piece about life, sex, purpose and annoying customers. As an aside, with the Covid-19 pandemic being our current reality, there are many ways to help out those around you and around the globe. Please visit who.int if you'd like to contribute to the World Health Organization's Covid-19 Solidarity Response Fund.
Ever been to Belgium? It isn't often a well written dark comedy comes out that delivers a punch like "In Bruges" does. There are so many great moments written in the script that only get more elevated with the fantastic performances and cinematography in this subtle yet brilliant film about two Irish hitmen hiding out after a job gone wrong. My friend Andrew was my guest on this one and we had to stop ourselves from quoting this whole damn movie. We hope you enjoy!
Set in the dark alleyways of London's Whitechapel District in the 1880s, this gritty and grim exploration of crime and power sparks vividly. Bolstered by the brilliant performance by Johnny Depp, this film tackles the investigation of Jack the Ripper like never before. My good friend Jocelyn joins me as we unravel this strange case death and deception.
The night skies of Los Angeles serve as the backdrop for this intense and engrossing crime thriller by Michael Mann. Tom Cruise, as a pistol-wielding, silver-fox looking assassin, shines and Jamie Foxx delivers an underrated and empathic performance as Cruise's unfortunate driver for the evening. This is not your average hit man movie. It is something so much more.
You've got red on you! Grab your cricket bat and Winchester rifle as we tear open the ribcage on this hilarious comedy-horror classic from director Edgar Wright. My buddy Jack stops by again to chat this amazing film which has so many great lines, scenes and references. It truly has become a staple of cinema that demands multiple viewings. We'll meet you at the pub, pints in hand, just don't slip on the blood!
What more can you ask out of this early 90s martial arts action flick? The answer is NOTHING! This sorely underrated fun time of a movie was one of Brandon Lee's (son of Bruce Lee, but you already knew that) last films. My friend Jack drops by to dissect this slightly forgotten but gracefully aged super romp!
Dinosaurs! Adventure! Steven Spielberg! John Williams! Genetic ethical breaches! That great Jeff Goldblum laugh! What's not to love in this classic 90s sci-fi journey?! Come join my friend John and I as we cover this definitive tale that explores the coolest creatures to ever walk the Earth, and those humans who get in their way!
Put on your bathing suit and dive in as we wade through the iconic Jaws! My buddy John stopped in to help me dissect this masterpiece. In my second episode, I discuss my love of horror films and how our culture relates and reacts to scary movies. They're just so darn fun aren't they?
In this, my intro episode, I explore the different types of art as we know them. And then I defend my stance why film is the highest form of art there is! It's a warm-up round!
