Kann "Spidey" Helmut und mich überzeugen?!
For this week's main podcast review, Katie Johnson and Josh Parham join me to review and discuss the latest MCU Tom Holland Spider-Man film, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," starring Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Florence Pugh, Tramell Tillman, Marisa Tomei, and Mark Ruffalo. Taking over from Jon Watts director Destin Daniel Cretton steps into the director's chair and brings the larger than life spectacle of the MCU back down to the ground a little bit as the reset button is hit following the events of 2021's "No Way Home," where those who knew Peter Parker cannot remember him any longer, thus forcing our favorite web-slinger into isolation and depression, which leads to some unexpected changes in his DNA while a new mysterious foe emerges that will have ramifications across the entire MCU. Also, Bruce Banner (aka. Hulk), Frank Castle (aka. Punisher), and Yelena Belova (aka. Black Widow) show up! What did we think of it? Please tune in either on video or audio only as we discuss the film's story, its performances, action, humor, visual effects, its awards season chances, and more in our SPOILER-FILLED review. What if the weight of the world rested on the shoulders of a teenager? Join host Kevin Reid as he dives deep into the emotional and action-packed universe of Marvel's latest release, "Spider-Man: Brave New Day," on The K. B. Radio Network. This episode is a must-listen for any Marvel fan, as Reid delivers a comprehensive spoiler review that not only examines the film's thrilling plot but also unravels the intricate character arcs that make this installment stand out. From the iconic portrayal of Tom Holland as Spider-Man to the captivating performances of Zendaya and Jacob Batalon, Reid explores how each character contributes to Peter Parker's profound journey. With the haunting shadow of Aunt May's death looming over him, Reid discusses the themes of responsibility, grief, and the inevitable consequences of being a superhero. Is this the most emotionally resonant Spider-Man film ever made? Reid believes it just might be, praising the film's depth and the remarkable character development that keeps audiences on the edge of their seats. One of the standout performances comes from Sadie Sink, who takes on the role of Jean Grey, bringing a fresh dynamic to the film. Reid also highlights John Bernthal's portrayal of Frank Castle, which adds layers of complexity to the story. However, he doesn't shy away from critiquing the unnecessary inclusion of Florence Pugh's character, sparking discussions on character relevance and narrative coherence. The pacing of the film and its portrayal of New York City are also key points of analysis, as Reid emphasizes how these elements enhance the viewer's experience. Unlike traditional superhero films, "Spider-Man: Brave New Day" challenges the notion of a singular villain, focusing instead on the internal struggles faced by Spider-Man. Reid's insights into this unique approach provide a fresh perspective on what it means to be a hero in a world filled with personal demons. As he wraps up the review, Reid speculates on the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, teasing the exciting possibilities that lie ahead, particularly with the upcoming "Secret Wars. "Don't miss this captivating episode of The K. B. Radio Network, where Kevin Reid delivers the ultimate spoiler-filled review of "Spider-Man: Brave New Day. " Whether you're a die-hard Marvel enthusiast or just curious about the latest superhero flick, this episode promises to be an engaging and thought-provoking listen that will leave you eagerly anticipating what comes next in the Marvel saga. The cult Aussie rom-com everyone's been quietly obsessed with is back for its third and final season, and if you've somehow missed it, now's the time to catch up. Its real-life married co-creators have the kind of chemistry you can't fake, backed by a scene-stealing cast of chaotic families and coworkers. Plus, The Spill team hit the premiere of the biggest superhero movie of the year — don't worry, we're keeping things spoiler-free, but we're unpacking why even the Marvel-fatigued are walking out obsessed, one surprise appearance we're still not over, and the very human story underneath it all. And if you're after something completely different, we've also got a recommendation for a tense new shark thriller set inside an underwater cave system. Think claustrophobia, friendship drama and one very angry bull shark. We're getting into the return no one asked for, the "lazy" storytelling loophole, and whether this can possibly live up to Endgame.Plus the horror trailer that made our whole team scream — a contortionist ghost, a Jessica Chastain double, and a jump scare so inventive we've been forcing it on everyone we know. Zach Braff (Scrubs, Garden State, Shrinking) joins me again this week for a conversation that swings from gut busting funny to genuinely tender. Zach opens up about living with depression, the highs and lows of a creative life, and the shingles nightmare he survived while directing Florence Pugh in A Good Person. We get into the real story behind bringing Scrubs back, rebuilding Sacred Heart from nothing, and what it takes to earn the trust of legends like Harrison Ford and Morgan Freeman. He also gets honest about being hard on himself, losing his dog Roscoe after 17 years, and the rescue that became his best antidepressant. Thank you to our sponsors:

DEFENDANT: Midsomar EVIDENCE: Sun Goddess Pinot Grigio SCENE OF THE CRIME: A Maypole Near You... -- Hey friend — welcome to our bonus midsummer episode! We kick things off with playful banter about time, podcast firsts, and then dive into the lushly sunlit weirdness of Ari Aster's Midsommar while sipping Mary J. Blige's Sun Goddess Pinot Grigio. Expect gossip, gross food talk, and the kind of movie chat that makes you want to rewatch with a notebook. We nerd out on the Friuli region (hello rose-gold Pinot Grigio color!), savor juicy melon-and-nectarine tasting notes, and praise the wine for being both approachable and surprisingly complex. Then we pivot into the film: Florence Pugh's Dani, toxic boyfriend Christian, and that creeping daylight dread that makes Midsommar feel like artful folk horror instead of just jump scares. There's also a playful Midsommar traditions true/false quiz, heated opinions about who deserves what, and a long, affectionate breakdown of costumes, rituals, and the film's ambiguous place between indigenous practice and cult. We wrap with whether we'd join a cozy wine-loving cult (spoiler: yes — but only the Nancy Meyers version) and all the micro-joys that make this episode feel like a friend sitting on your patio, passing the bottle and whispering theories.

Welcome to Multiverse News, your source for information about all your favorite fictional universes.During Disney's annual upfront presentation on Tuesday, Marvel Television revealed that the long awaited VisionQuest series will hit Disney Plus later this fall, with the debut streaming October 14. A trailer for the Paul Bettany led spinoff was also shown to media buyers and advertisers and reportedly featured a look at James Spader's return as Ultron. This exciting update comes on the heels of Daredevil: Born Again's Season 2 finale and the release of the Punisher special presentation; with all eyes on the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day and, of course, Avengers: Doomsday,Disney's Tuesday presentation also shed some light on Lucasfilm's streaming future with Ahsoka Season 2 promised for an early 2027 release window on Disney Plus, more than 3 years after Season 1 streamed in 2023. Mottola is no stranger to the DCU or James Gunn, having directed episodes of Peacemaker. While DC has yet to comment, Moon Knight writer Matthew Orton reportedly wrote the initial screenplay for the villain duo team-up and is set to do a rewrite if Mottola does end up being the choice. In other DCU news, Friday Night Lights actor Sinqua Walls has joined the cast of Man of Tomorrow in an undisclosed role. Deadpool and Wolverine director Shawn Levy is now attached to direct an original sci fi film written by Max Taxe titled Somewhere Out There for Netflix. New release Mortal Kombat 2 came in third place at the box office this weekend, behind The Devil Wears Prada 2 and Michael. Globally, The Devil Wears Prada 2 has crossed $400 million dollars and Michael has crossed $500 million dollars. Mortal Kombat 2 earned a worldwide box office total of $63 million dollars with only $23 million of that total made overseas. NBCUniversal has confirmed that a live-action Fast and the Furious series is in development. Vin Diesel, who will serve as a producer, announced the project, which is set up at Peacock, on stage at the NBCUniversal upfront presentation Monday morning. After bringing Michael Crichton‘s theme park vision to the screen scripting 1993's Jurassic Park and two sequels, screenwriter David Koepp is looking to tackle another one. Deadline hears Koepp will revisit Westworld, the 1973 film written and directed by Crichton. A major unnamed director is also circling the project for Warner Brothers.

This week we go fully corporate: Top 5 Corporate & Tech Jargon — the phrases designed to sound like progress while delivering absolutely nothing. We're talking circle back, take it offline, pivot, blue-sky thinking, synergy, and the whole “results-driven ecosystem” dialect spoken exclusively by people who describe themselves as “thought leaders” on LinkedIn.Then we hit the main feature: Thunderbolts* — Marvel's surprisingly sincere group-therapy movie disguised as an action film. Think The Breakfast Club, but everyone's a government assassin and the villain is basically existential depression with god-tier powers.Standard warning: we spoil. A lot. With confidence. What we talked aboutTop 5 Corporate / Techno-babbleWhy corporate language exists: credibility theatre, hiding behind vague phrasing, and “sounding senior” without committing to anything. The difference between useful technical language vs bullshit camouflage (and why “take it offline” can mean “I'm seething”).Techno-babble in movies: Back to the Future's flux capacitor, Avengers physics word-salad (quantum tunneling, heavy ion fusion, Coulomb barrier), and classic Star Trek “modulate the phase variance” nonsense. The “pivot” moment that sneaks into real life: Friends and the cursed sofa stairwell.Thunderbolts*Why this one lands better than recent Marvel: less quippy noise, more consistent tone, and a third act that's actually about something. The set-up: a clean-up operation that becomes a trap, plus Marvel's best “oh, we're definitely all going to die” elevator pitch.Bob / Sentry / The Void: a superhuman project gone wrong, and a villain that manifests as the darkest version of yourself. The big swing: a finale that avoids sky-portals and CGI armies and instead goes for inner trauma + solidarity (yes, basically an emotional intervention). The asterisk explained: the film's marketing payoff and the “New Avengers” naming chaos. The rough edges: runtime bloat, plot convenience, and the return of accents that should've stayed retired.Bonus life adminWalking football cup semi-final madness (knees sacrificed, glory secured).Random watches: Tarot (not recommended), “Lords of Metal” (unexpectedly wholesome), and a bit of hype for upcoming Peaky Blinders and Baz Luhrmann's Elvis project. If you're even slightly Marvel'd-out but still want something that tries to have a heart, Thunderbolts* is one of the more watchable recent entries — and if you've ever died inside hearing “let's circle back,” the Top 5 segment is basically free therapy. You can now text us anonymously to leave feedback, suggest future content or simply hurl abuse at us. This week's Empire Podcast sees Chris Hewitt sit down in a London hotel room with Amanda Seyfried and Mona Fastvold, star and director respectively of the audacious new musical biopic, The Testament Of Ann Lee. It's a conversation that takes in everything from wearing T-shirts with your face on it to the trick of choreographing incredibly complex dance numbers, and is a ton of fun. That starts around 42:18 and finishes around 1:02:50. Elsewhere, Chris is joined in the podbooth by Helen O'Hara, James Dyer and, for the first time on the regular pod, Evolution Of Horror host Mike Muncer, as they discuss movie news including the BAFTAs and the latest Toy Story 5 trailer, answer questions on what movie-related thing they'd give up for Lent, the movie juries they'd like to be on (or not), and run their critical eye over Scream 7, The Testament Of Ann Lee, Sirat, and The Bluff. Oh, and Chris finally gets round to explaining how, and why, he nearly stepped on Florence Pugh's dress. Enjoy.
Want to know the story of how Chris Hewitt almost stepped on Florence Pugh's dress? Well, this isn't the podcast for you, as it features Chris and Helen O'Hara trying to tell that tale, from the press night of Cynthia Erivo's Dracula (sorry, Draclier), only to get sidetracked by a dozen different things and forget to finish it. But if you want to hear Chris, Helen, James Dyer, and John Nugent talk about movie characters falling from great heights, pay tribute to the great Robert Duvall, discuss the latest The Mandalorian And Grogu trailer, and review The Secret Agent, Good Luck Have Fun Don't Die, Wasteman and If I Had Legs I'd Kick You, this is the podcast for you. Oh, and Chris and Helen launch new careers as theatre reviewers too. Guest-wise, Harry Stainer talks to the Oscar-nominated star of the Brazilian thriller, The Secret Agent, one Wagner Moura, and his director, Kleber Mendonça Filho. It's a cracking episode, even if we're still nowhere nearer to finding a nickname for Tin Jim. Enjoy.

Siblings Ashley Engle and Brandon Birdwell discuss life, Kim Cattrall' scatting, Brandon's irrational love of vigilante movies, impossible scenarios, and Florence Pugh.
This emotional interview with the actor Andrew Garfield is a listener favorite. In it, Garfield talks about his 2024 film “We Live in Time,” in which he plays a newly divorced man named Tobias who falls in love with a chef named Almut, played by Florence Pugh. Their story feels epic and expansive, but still intimate. It focuses on the small, everyday moments that make up a love story: washing dishes together after a dinner party, sharing biscuits, smelling fruit at a farmers' market. These are the moments that sustain the couple through Almut's excruciatingly difficult medical crisis.Garfield tells Anna Martin, host of “Modern Love,” why this film about the intertwined nature of joy and grief came into his life at just the right moment, and gives an unexpectedly raw reading of Chris Huntington's essay “Learning to Measure Time in Love and Loss.”"Modern Love" will return on Jan. 7 with all new episodes.
