Brian Hilliard - Marketing and Branding Coach for Coaches
As a Coach we can sometimes find ourselves giving sooo much, that it doesn't even occur to us the legitious environment we live in. So today I had a chance to catch up with Fractional General Counsel Jon Hood and get some practical legal tips and tricks.
As a Coach, have you ever felt like "sales" was a 4 letter word? I know I certainly did. Especially if you're a Coach who's passionate about your work. But what if sales isn't about persuasion or pushing, but instead a conversation around transferring inspiration. That's what Genevieve Skory said when we sat down to talk about branding and growing your coaching practice…wanting a desire to shift from us thinking, “I need something from you” to “I want to share something that changed me”. And when you do that she days, referrals and real connections come more naturally. :)
Now, for a lot of people listening, they wouldn't characterize themselves as the most extroverted in nature. And while that may be true, it's also completely true that in order to grand and grow your coaching practice, you need to be out there in the form of podcast or virtual speaking engagements or maybe even on stage. So what do you do as an introvert if you know you need to get out there, but not sure how to move forward in the speaking journey? Well, that's what we're going talk about here today with James Carson as he talks about the mindset that's introverts need in order to be more successful with public speaking. This is perfect if you've been thinking about getting on more podcast this year or maybe you're even looking at doing more virtual presentations or getting out on stage.
So you're in for a real treat if you're thinking about maybe becoming a TEDx speaker Because Jay was one of the founding members of building the TED talks down in Florida. She's gonna talk about some dues and don'ts On how you can successfully become a TedX speaker, and this is perfect for anybody who is looking to take a first step down that road.
Now let me tell you this: being a coach and being in business on your own is not exactly a walk in the park. And if you've been in this business for any length of time, you already know that it can be stressful and anxiety producing to stay the least. We had a chance to talk with Tracy Boone about how she's able to from a spiritual perspective Is able to find her strength and stay in balance… Despite difficult situations and circumstances. This is a story you're going want to hear as Tracy walks you through how she was able to get to be a coach and would allowed her to get to that next level. This is great for someone who might feel like they're just stressed out and maybe overwhelmed and looking for a little bit of peace and balance in their day.
This is a conversation that I love having because as someone who is actually not naturally outgoing myself it's always good to share some of the different techniques as it relates to being successful and getting out there as a speaker. Lawrence actually has that exact same experience in terms of not being a naturally outgoing person, but still recognizing that speaking is a big part of his game and where he wants to go to be successful. During this episode you will hear some different tips and tricks on what he's personally done and how he teaches others who are looking to get out there as a speaker… But might not necessarily be the most outgoing person. This is perfect for somebody who knows they want to get out there as a speaker and who knows that they are maybe not the most outgoing person. And instead wants to move forward anyway. :-)
So this is a topic that is near and dear to my heart because it was something I was personally struggling with and something that quite frankly, I see a lot of coaches still dealing with which is charging what you're worth as a coach. Now you already know that you have to charge what you're worth otherwise it's really hard to make a living. :( But knowing what to do and actually doing it...well, two different things to say the least. But for me personally, what I had to realize was, I needed to have a shift in mindset first before I could then actually get paid when I was worth and that's what we're going talk about with Terri Nicklas here today.
Now, as some of you guys may know, I'm a very spiritually oriented person. I believe in God and I do my best to follow his teachings as laid out in the Bible. And for those of you who are in that frame of mind, you might find a challenge to move forward and generate revenue in the secular world with your coaching practice, while simultaneously adhering to your spiritual principles. And if that is the case, then you'll definitely want to tune in as Andrea and I talk about what she's personally done, as well as myself along those lines. And even if you don't believe in God or perhaps not spiritually oriented in that way, this might be something that is of interest because it provides a fresh approach around my own personal thinking on how to have a more servant oriented coaching practice…that still makes money!
If you're new to coaching or maybe you've been around for a while and you're really looking to ramp up, and get more paying clients heading into 2025, then this is absolutely the conversation you're gonna wanna listen to as I had a chance to catch up with Jennifer deCoaste. She talks about her experience around how she built up her coaching practice from a “side hustle” to a full-time income, and some of the regular actions you need to take in order to make that happen. This one is definitely gonna be a treat.
With the holidays fast approaching, and 2025 on the horizon, the question on a lot of people‘s mind is, What can I do differently as I head into the new year in order to be more successful in my coaching practice? Well it turns out that it might be less of doing something different and more of thinking a different thought! And that's exactly what we're going to talk about as Karen walks us through the Mindset of Success and you can really make that work for you in your business as we head into 2025. I know for me personally that was a big big stumbling block - and I didn't even realize it. And I think that is the case for a lot of other people as well. So if you wanna cut through the cutter and get to a few points that you can actually use, then you'll wanna tune into our latest episode.

I had a chance to sit down with Jeanne McPhillips, who has had an extensive amount of experience and not only being on the summit and making it work for her from a business perspective, but also in hosting and creating an online event herself. So if you're thinking about speaking at an online summit or maybe even hosting your own, then this is the show you wanna hear.

This actually came to me during a coaching session that I was doing with a client friend of mine the other day and it's funny because there are things that I do that I know I'm doing that are successful. And then as we found out just the other day there are things I'm doing that I don't realize I'm doing that I'm making me successful specifically in the area of generating more referrals as it relates to paying clients and doing so in a way that's not pushy or salesy. This happens to be one of those.
We had a chance to catch up with Deirdre Beacham talking about how speaking has transformed her coaching business. Some good stuff.
What's the secret ingredient to generating more referrals? Something that's been staring you right in the face the entire time.
What's the one thing you've done to be successful as a coach? That's a question I get asked a fair amount of times and after 20 plus years of being a speaker in a coach here's my answer.
As someone who's been a coach since 2001 I've seen a lot of different advice and techniques that people are saying you need to do to be successful. But here's one of my personal secrets for getting higher paying clients without being pushy or salesy.

As someone who's written 8 books myself, people sometimes ask me if I think THEM writing their first book is a big deal. And while it's NOT the entire end of the world not to have a book, I really do think that if you're going to have a serious conversation around speaking and being a top flight coach...then HAVING a book makes a lot easier. So with that said, we had a chance to catch up with Charlotte Booth who specializes in showing people how to do exactly that - start and finish - their very first business book. :)
Sometimes people ask me what are some good ideas for getting paying clients and setting themselves up for success from a paid presentation. And here's something that I came up with a client friend of mine Paul Newton out in the UK.
We had a chance to catch up with Shelia Malcom, Life Coach in the Atlanta, GA area, as we talked about what it takes to bounce back from business adversity. Because as a Coach, even though we "know" a lot of this stuff, being to apply it to our own situation / business is huge...and Shelia covered that to perfection. :)
Ahhh, referrals! They're the lifeblood of any coaching business. But what can you do to proactively generate more referrals without having to just sit and hope that clients past perspective clients your way? Great question and one that Popular Speaker and Coach Brian Hilliard tackles head-on.
With so many different ways to generate more business it can sometimes be confusing to know which way to go. Listen in to our latest episode as Coach and Popular Speaker Brian Hilliard talks about the one thing that he's personally doing to generate more paying clients.

This is something that I've personally been doing for a while but is something that I still see a lot of people make this mistake went out networking. And I just wanted to clear it up as succinctly as I could that way you're not unintentionally sabotaging your success when it comes to building a word of mouth coaching practice.
So we all know that referrals of the lifeblood of our business. But the question becomes what can we do to proactively drive those referrals in a way that will actually drive referrals on a more consistent basis? A book is something that just about everyone knows they really should have if they are going to be successful in branding themselves as a Coach and/or Speaker. But knowing that you need one and getting one started can be two different things! Which is why I brought in my friend James Palmer to talk shop about what he recommends people do who are looking to go down that road.
As someone who's done his fair share of speaking (both free and paid), this is my personal "secret sauce" if you will that can absolutely assist in getting more paid speaking gigs.
If you're already speaking right now, then this is a pretty easy way to start getting referrals for paid gigs.

I don't know about you guys, but LinkedIn can sometimes feel like the most under utilized element in your social media repertiore. You've got all of these people online. Well it's here...the NEW YEAR! And here's a question I'm asking EVERYONE (including myself) as we head into the next 12 months.
So maybe you're speaker who has been asked on occasion to deliver a (free) presentation to a group of folks. "No problem. It's a good way to get some exposure and if it turns into some paying clients, then I actually don't have to worry about getting paid," is maybe what you're thinking. So how can you increase your chances of this happening WITHOUT being pushy or salesy? Great question and one we tackle in this latest episode.
Now THAT sounds like a title I can get my arms around as we close out the year. :)
