I believe one of the biggest challenges in the aesthetics industry isn't clinical skill, it's business education. In this episode of Business on Top, I'm sharing why so many talented providers struggle with leadership, finances, hiring, and scaling their practices, despite being exceptional at what they do. If you've ever felt confident in the treatment room but uncertain reading your financials, leading a team, or making strategic business decisions, this conversation is for you. I dive into why this gap exists, how it keeps high-achieving founders stuck, and why mastering your craft isn't enough to build a sustainable, profitable business. I also share why I created Aesthetic Business School, a six-week accelerator designed to give aesthetic founders the practical business education they never received in school. We'll talk about leadership, financial literacy, hiring, KPIs, operations, and the mindset shift required to step into the role of CEO. My goal is to help you stop relying on talent alone and start building a business that creates freedom, impact, and long-term success. If you're ready to think like a business owner, not just a provider, this episode is for you. Someone asks you a hard question on a discovery call, and that little voice shows up: "Maybe I don't know enough." If you've ever felt that, you're in very good company. In this episode, Candy makes the case that confidence doesn't come first. Authority does. Not the kind you announce on your website, but the kind you earn one real conversation at a time. She shares her own struggle with second-guessing her ideas, and tells the story of Lindsey, an anesthesiologist who coaches female physicians, who stopped chasing confidence and started collecting evidence instead.Candy also shares a hard number from her own research: nearly seventy percent of coaches she surveyed had five or fewer clients, many of them highly experienced. The coaches with consistent clients weren't the loudest. They were the most connected. If you've ever thought "I just need more confidence," this episode offers a different answer: maybe you need evidence instead.Free resources: Coaching Business Growth Survey ReportFree Resources: Authority Lab Case Study

One of the biggest things that slows moms down in business usually isn't a lack of strategy. It's the mental drama that happens when we start worrying, second guessing ourselves, and deciding that what we're doing isn't working. When we believe we're failing or falling behind, it can drain our energy, motivation, and confidence. In this episode, I share a mindset shift that has helped me and many of the moms I work with stop spiraling when things don't go according to plan: it's always working. This doesn't mean pretending everything is fine or ignoring information. It means recognizing that we only see one small piece of what's happening and choosing to believe that every experience is giving us information, moving us forward, or teaching us something we need to know. For more information, transcript, and show notes, click here: jenna.coach/116 Join me for a free consultation by clicking here: https://mom.jenna.coach/apply You're invited to join us every 2nd Thursday for my free Mom Entrepreneurs Circle. AI can now do far more than summarize meetings. In this episode, Dean Newlund and Artem Koren explore how meeting intelligence is evolving into AI that helps leaders execute business goals, improve collaboration, and rethink the future of work.   In this episode, Dean Newlund and Artem Koren discuss: The evolution of AI-powered meeting intelligence Connecting everyday work to organizational goals Practical AI applications for business workflows Leadership behaviors in times of uncertainty Balancing automation with human judgment   Key Takeaways: AI can remove repetitive work, but leaders should continue reviewing its output to ensure it reflects their own thinking, judgment, and communication style. Custom AI workflows can help organizations evaluate meetings against their own standards, making it easier to reinforce desired behaviors and improve consistency. Rather than focusing only on individual tasks, AI can help employees connect their daily work to broader business goals and organizational priorities. When problems arise, leaders build stronger teams by staying calm, assessing the situation, addressing the immediate issue, and learning from what happened instead of reacting emotionally. Use AI to support decisions and execution, but preserve the human moments that strengthen relationships, trust, and personal connection.   "Assess the situation, stop the bleed, figure out what you do to prevent this thing from happening in the future, and implement those changes.” — Artem Koren   About Artem Koren: Artem is the Chief Product Officer and Co-Founder of Semby AI. Artem has 16+ years of product management experience and has applied AI learning to his work since 2009. "Does the world really need another coach?"If you've ever looked around at leadership coaches, health coaches, life coaches, and business coaches and wondered if there's room for you, this episode is for you.Candy makes the case that "how do I stand out?" is the wrong question. The better one is "what could I discover that nobody else knows yet?" She shares the story of Karolina, a self-care coach for mothers, who skipped the branding rabbit hole and went straight to curiosity instead. Her conversations with mothers became a white paper called Chocolate First, Spinach Later, and it gave her something no logo ever could: her own voice.Candy also opens up about what happened after she ran her own Coaching Business Growth Survey. People stopped asking what she coached. They started asking what coaches were telling her. That shift changed everything. This episode will help you see that your Blue Ocean isn't a tagline. Today, Eric explores one of the biggest misconceptions surrounding AI. Stay tuned as he explains why AI will not build your business, and why building a successful business remains entirely your responsibility as an entrepreneur or business owner. Your Vision AI can help you brainstorm, improve your wording, and challenge your thinking, but it cannot define your vision. Only you can decide what kind of company you want to build, what type of freedom you want, and where you want your business to go. Trust As information becomes cheaper, trust becomes more valuable than ever. AI can write proposals, research prospects, and prepare you for meetings, but it cannot build trust, read body language, handle objections, or make someone feel understood. Accountability AI cannot hold you accountable. It can tell you what to do, but it cannot make you do it. It cannot make sales calls, follow up, delegate more, or have uncomfortable conversations. Hard Decisions AI can give you input and help you evaluate your options, but you are the one who must make difficult decisions. Whether you're firing someone, walking away from a client, or making a major investment, leadership requires courage, not computation. Consequences Responsibility can never be outsourced. AI can provide advice, but as a business owner, you are responsible for the decisions you make and the consequences that follow. The Value of AI AI can help you brainstorm, research, create SOPs, write proposals, support your marketing, prepare meetings, role-play sales calls, and accelerate learning. It reduces the value of repetitive work and routine tasks, allowing you to focus on the work only you can do. Summary As AI becomes more capable, your vision, leadership, judgment, relationships, courage, and accountability become even more valuable. Your competitive advantage is not AI—it's how you use it while continuing to lead your business. Two women build the same membership. One sells it for two million. One cannot sell it at all. The difference is not the work. The difference is a faculty. Call it the inner masculine, the principle of structure, the part that thinks about the end at the beginning. He is the one who says: I am not going to waste fifteen years of this. Most spiritual women never bring him in. What happens then is not dramatic — it is quiet. Fifteen years of building, then exhaustion, then the whole thing set down, because when you are burnt out you cannot be bothered to do anything except not do anything. What was built gets thrown away. Not sold. Thrown away. She did not fail. She built something that could not be handed to anyone, because it did not work without her.The cost is not abstract. The same membership, same members, same revenue, is worth two and a half times its profit or seven times its profit depending on decisions made years earlier — whether the work was written down, whether the community holds itself, whether its people are valuable to somebody else. On a business earning a million in profit, that is four and a half million pounds of difference, sitting entirely in the structure.Jess walks it through on a real membership: five hundred wealthy golfers at $500 a month. What it brings in. What the invested portion becomes by year seven. What it sells for — and why five hundred golfers are worth something to another brand that five hundred strangers never could be. That leverage is chosen at the beginning, in who you decide to hold. Then the same principle in different clothing. Why nothing works without knowing where the finish line is. Training for a sub-three-hour marathon and counting to ninety for three hours straight, because the race is not won by fitness. What a mind does with no end point — the distraction, the consuming of everyone else's opinion because you do not have your own plan. Not a different subject. The same faculty, applied to a body instead of a business. And then resourcefulness, which is what the masculine gives the feminine so she can rest: Richard Rudd's refugee camp, carrying a pinnacle vision into the dark night rather than waiting for clarity on the far side, and what happened at the London Marathon start line that money could not buy.Build it so you could sell it. In this video, I share the story of a coaching session with an incredible yoga teacher who was on the verge of getting a job she didn't want, until one simple shift completely changed the direction of her business. Together, we uncovered a business model that fit her gifts, her personality, and the life she actually wanted to live. We explore: • Why most entrepreneurs don't need another certification. They need business clarity. • How to stop forcing yourself into an online business model that doesn't fit. • Why relationships grow businesses better than algorithms. • The power of a Signature Workshop as the foundation of a meaningful business. • Why your business is your day job (yes... even the tech, emails, and partnership outreach). • How to build a business that feels aligned with your nature instead of constantly fighting against it. What does it take to write a book that actually makes an impact? In this compilation episode, Travis brings together three bestselling authors and accomplished leaders—David Epstein, Dave Berke, and Mark Divine—to share their hard-earned lessons on writing, leadership, entrepreneurship, and building lasting credibility. From the disciplined writing process to the importance of authenticity and patience, this episode is packed with practical insights for anyone looking to create meaningful work that stands the test of time. On this episode we talk about: Why great books begin with deep research, thoughtful planning, and clear constraints How military leadership principles translate directly into entrepreneurship and business The challenges—and rewards—of writing a book that truly reflects your expertise Why authenticity and personal experience matter more than writing a book just for credibility How founders can build stronger businesses by hiring great leaders and focusing on their unique strengths Top 3 Takeaways The best writing happens long before the first draft—careful research, planning, and defining clear boundaries make the execution dramatically easier. Leadership principles like humility, discipline, and ownership work across every environment, whether you're leading troops, running a company, or building a personal brand. Don't write a book because you think you should. Write one because you have a unique perspective and a message that's compelling enough that it has to come out. Notable Quotes "Think slow, act fast." "Everything worth doing is on the other side of a bunch of struggle." "If you want to make money with your business as a founder, you ultimately have to get out of the way." How to Sell Without Feeling Slimy — Sales Tools That Actually Work

The Game On Girlfriend Podcast

When you hear "limited-time offer" or "doors closing Friday," how do you feel? If you're like a lot of women entrepreneurs, one of two things happens. Either you avoid these tools entirely because they feel manipulative — or you use them while holding your breath, hoping you don't come across as pushy. Here's what I want you to know: it doesn't have to feel that way. This episode is actually lesson 10 from Effortless Sales, a 12-week course I used to offer that has since evolved into The Art of Receiving. I was going through the archives with my team, and it was so clear we had to publish this one. With what's happening in sales right now — everything starting to feel a little hollow, AI making things sound the same, the pressure building — this lesson is more relevant than ever. I walk you through what scarcity tools actually are, why they work with the human brain, and the one condition that determines whether they help people or harm them. We also get into why your sales numbers are not a measure of your worth, why authenticity will always outperform a perfected pitch, and why the pressure of one launch is genuinely smaller than you think. Save this one. Come back to it before your next launch, before you rewrite sales copy, and before your next sales call.   What You'll Learn:  Why the structure of your business — not just your mindset — determines whether the next launch feels like stress or freedom What the human brain actually needs in order to make a buying decision — and why that's not manipulation The one condition that makes a scarcity tool genuinely helpful versus genuinely harmful Why small, tangible wins convert better than big promises — and how to use that in your own sales copy and conversations How to use your own authentic experience as your most powerful sales tool Why your business is your agreement with the universe — and what Carl Sagan has to do with your next launch   Ready to Build Your Business? The Path to $20 Million with Mike Prewett

Mike discusses recent events in the real estate industry, focusing on the dispute between Zillow and the Chicago MLS over private listings. They highlight the risks of relying on third-party platforms for business, as seen with the Chicago agents who heavily relied on Zillow's leads program. Mike emphasizes the importance of self-reliance and marketing oneself to a narrowly defined target audience, rather than being dependent on external entities. They encourage following their marketing tips to avoid such dependency issues.

So many entrepreneurs are driven by performance. In fact, most of us fall into what I'd call a performance identity. A belief that we are only as good as how we perform in the marketplace. Good day? You're the best. Bad sales week? You're the worst. It's a never ending cycle that keeps us stuck in pain and almost always burning what's most important to the ground. Should you move abroad now and figure it out as you go, or stay put until your business is “ready”? If you've been stuck between building income and starting your life overseas, this conversation will help you cut through the noise and choose the path that actually works for your reality.Key Takeaways:The “move first vs. build first” decision isn't one-size-fits-all. Your energy, finances, and lifestyle constraints matter more than generic advice.Moving abroad before hitting $3–5K/month can sometimes be the faster, easier path, especially if your current environment is draining your time, money, or motivation. There are flexible “stepping stone” visa options and countries that let you live affordably while building your business.Building first makes sense if you have stability, time, and a strategic reason to wait; but it should come with a clear timeline, not an open-ended delay. No matter which path you choose, you need proof of concept: getting even $1 from a client shifts you from “idea” to “real business.”At the end of the day, the right path is the one that gets you moving, not the one that keeps you stuck “preparing” forever. Whether you decide to move first or build first, the goal is the same: create momentum and design a life that actually works for you.Subscribe and ReviewIf you loved this episode, please take a moment to subscribe and leave a review on Apple Podcasts! Why Business Books Should Build Your Business | Lucy McCarraher | 706

Leveraging Thought Leadership with Peter Winick

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 16, 2026 20:07

What if your book was never meant to make money on the shelf, but to make money in the business? In this episode of Leveraging Thought Leadership, Peter Winick talks with Lucy McCarraher, co-founder of Rethink Press, founder of the Business Book Awards, and author of 17 books, about what business books are really for. Lucy makes a clear case that for entrepreneurs, consultants, and experts, a book is not just a product. It is a growth tool. It builds authority. It attracts ideal clients. And it opens doors that traditional marketing cannot. Lucy breaks down the core shift in publishing. In the old model, publishers decided which books made it to market and success was measured in copies sold. In today's environment, that model no longer serves every expert. Lucy explains why the smartest business authors are not writing to win shelf space. They are writing to win trust, create demand, and move prospects toward deeper engagement. The conversation goes deep into Lucy's practical framework for business authors: person, pain, and promise. She explains why strong thought leadership begins with knowing exactly who the book is for, what problem that reader is trying to solve, and what promise the book delivers. That clarity shapes everything, from the title and subtitle to the structure, stories, and case studies inside the book. Lucy also challenges one of the biggest mistakes experts make. Too many authors write the book they want to write instead of the book their market needs to read. She argues that the most effective business books are built around a proven methodology, real client outcomes, and stories that help the reader see themselves in the work. The goal is not to impress. The goal is to create relevance, credibility, and action. The episode also tackles the hardest part of authorship: marketing. Lucy shares why authors need to stop obsessing over book sales and start thinking strategically about distribution. A business book, in her view, is an "undercover sales agent." Given to the right people, at the right time, in the right way, it becomes far more valuable than a brochure, a business card, or a one-off pitch. This is a smart conversation for any leader using thought leadership to grow a business. Lucy brings clarity to what makes a business book work, why authority comes from usefulness, and how the right book can become one of the most effective assets in your commercial strategy. Three Key Takeaways: • A business book should do more than sell copies. It should build authority, attract ideal clients, and support the author's broader business goals. • Strong books are built around a clear audience, a specific problem, and a compelling promise. That clarity makes the content more useful and more marketable. • The real value of a book often comes from how it is used. Given to the right prospects and partners, it can be a powerful marketing and sales tool. If this conversation got you thinking about how a book can do more than sell copies, don't miss our episode with Erika Andersen. It takes the next step by exploring how thought leadership builds credibility, sharpens your value, and creates real business impact. Tune in to hear how strong ideas become trusted authority.

Learn how to clarify your why, showcase your uniqueness, celebrate small wins, and create systems that hold everything together — all while maintaining authenticity and boldness. Main Topics: How the donut framework simplifies brand messaging Importance of niching and deep client understanding Strategies for authentic social media presence The significance of taking action and embracing messiness Balancing boldness with authenticity in content Leveraging micro-commitments and small wins Systematizing business to avoid overwhelm The power of conversation in client acquisition Key Insights: The core is your why, the reason behind your coaching or business. The icing is what makes you different, reflecting your personality, passions, and unique traits. Sprinkles are daily actions and small wins that keep momentum and positivity. The box (or structure) is about systems and workflows that streamline your efforts. The donut itself is about eating — taking consistent action on your plans. Authenticity and boldness in messaging build trust; share your opinions and ideas confidently. Niching deeply helps you target your ideal clients more effectively and charge higher prices. Show up in conversations; online engagement often leads to significant client opportunities. The messy trial-and-error phase is necessary—start before you're perfect. Focus on building human trust through transparency, personal stories, and connection. If you want to build a stronger business, start by building stronger trust. In this video, I break down the TRUST framework and why trust is one of the most powerful drivers of long-term business success. Too many organizations focus only on short-term wins—transactions, quick sales, and immediate results. But the businesses that last understand something deeper: when people trust you, everything gets easier. Relationships grow stronger, opportunities multiply, and your brand becomes something people want to engage with again and again. In this video, I walk through the TRUST framework and how it can help you think differently about the way you connect with customers, partners, and your community. This isn't about gimmicks or quick marketing tricks. It's about building credibility, showing up consistently, and creating real value over time. If you're serious about growing your business in a sustainable way, learning how to build trust is one of the best places to start.

In this solo episode, I share why relying on motivation alone is one of the biggest reasons many candle business owners struggle to build real momentum. I talk about why discipline, simple routines and showing up consistently matter far more than waiting to "feel ready".   Some days you'll feel inspired and ready to take on the world and other days you won't want to do anything at all. That's normal. The problem is that your business can't grow based on how motivated you feel that day.   If you've ever found yourself saying "I'll start when I feel more motivated", this episode will give you a different (and much more sustainable) way to think about growing your business.   ----------   SHOW LINKS: Community: https://www.skool.com/candle-collective Coaching: https://candlebusinesscoach.com.au/private-coaching/ FREE e-book: https://candlebusinesscoach.com.au/10-strategies/     Make sure you subscribe/follow so you don't miss any future episodes. Ever feel like you're working harder than ever but not actually getting closer to freedom? Most entrepreneurs chase revenue, not realizing they're building a business that traps them instead of freeing them. So, how do you create a business that gives you freedom, fortune, and fulfillment without burning out? The answer lies in building a business moat.In this solo episode of The Happy Hustle Podcast, I dive into a game-changing framework I learned from Cody Sanchez, a New York Times bestselling author, CEO of Contrarian Thinking, and serial entrepreneur who's on a mission to help one million people achieve financial freedom through business ownership. Cody is known for buying “boring” businesses—laundromats, car washes, service companies and turning them into cash-flowing machines. Her secret? The M.O.A.T. Strategy, a simple yet powerful system to protect your business, your time, and your peace. Here's the gist: M.O.A.T. stands for Margin, Operations, Advantage, and Total Addressable Market. It's all about creating a competitive barrier around your business so that competitors stay out, cash keeps flowing in, and you build a fortress of freedom. Let's unpack a few powerful takeaways that you can apply right now.Margin matters most.If your business isn't profitable, it's fragile. Cody's rule of thumb is to buy or build businesses that cash flow on day one. So, audit your margins—are you charging enough for your time and talent? Sometimes the simplest solution is raising your prices.Systematize or suffer.Your business should run without you. That's the true test of freedom. Start documenting tasks you've done more than three times, then delegate them. Freedom lives in frameworks, my friend—if it's repeatable, automate or outsource it.Identify your unfair advantage.Your edge might be your brand, your relationships, your humor, or your community. Double down on what makes you you. Competitors can copy your strategy, but they can't replicate your soul.Know your market size.If you're playing too small, you're capping your growth. Expand your total addressable market—how many people can your product or service actually help? Think bigger.Do a quarterly M.O.A.T. audit.Rate yourself 1–10 in each of the four areas: Margin, Operations, Advantage, and Market. Find your lowest score and make that your next focus. It's a simple way to plug holes before your business springs a leak. This episode is all about working happier and smarter, not harder. Whether you're running a $100K business or a $100M empire, the MOAT strategy helps you protect your profits, your peace, and your purpose. If you're ready to build your own fortress of freedom, tune in to the full episode and start happy hustlin' your way toward that life of balance, passion, and positive impact.Connect with Cary!https://www.instagram.com/caryjack/https://www.facebook.com/SirCaryJackhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/cary-jack-kendzior/https://twitter.com/thehappyhustlehttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFDNsD59tLxv2JfEuSsNMOQ/featured Get a free copy of his new book, The Happy Hustle, 10 Alignments to Avoid Burnout & Achieve Blissful Balance https://www.thehappyhustle.com/bookSign up for The Journey: 10 Days To Become a Happy Hustler Online Coursehttps://thehappyhustle.com/thejourney/Apply to the Montana Mastermind Epic Camping Adventurehttps://thehappyhustle.com/mastermind/“It's time to Happy Hustle, a blissfully balanced life you love, full of passion, purpose, and positive impact!”Episode Sponsors:If you're feeling stressed, not sleeping great, or your energy's been kinda meh lately—let me put you on to something that's been a total game-changer for me: Magnesium Breakthrough by BiOptimizers.
