SDH 469: How to Make Money with Affiliate Marketing with Amanda Boleyn

Hello my beautiful friends, welcome back to another episode of the podcast. This week I'm going to be talking about how to make money with affiliate marketing. We will be diving into how affiliate marketing works, the benefits of affiliate marketing, how to decide which programs to be an affiliate for, how to organize your affiliate links, and finally sharing some final notes on best practices when it comes to affiliate marketing. This episode will only scratch the surface of everything you can possibly do with affiliate marketing, but I want this to serve as a starting point for anyone who wants to start using affiliate marketing in their business or wants to better utilize it. For the purpose of this episode, we're discussing how affiliate marketing works when you are an affiliate of someone else's product, course, or software tool.Webster's online dictionary defines ‘Affiliate Marketing' as: “A marketing arrangement by which an online retailer pays a commission to an external website for traffic or sales generated from its referrals.”So rather than a company paying for ads to market their product or service, you, as an individual become the marketing ‘arm' and because you market their product, you are compensated. When I first started using affiliate marketing it felt ‘icky'. But once I realized that the company may not have made that sale without my recommendation, it became a lot more natural for me to utilize affiliate marketing for my benefit and as long as it is a tool, program, software, etc., that I use and personally believe in. I eventually realized it doesn't need to feel ‘icky' at all.Something thing to keep in mind about affiliate marketing is that it can really be a passive form of income. You don't need to create the product, you just need to believe in it and recommend it to those you feel would benefit from it, especially when it can fill a gap for your audience. Products or services that you know, like and trust, and you feel aligns with your audience; these are the ones you want to market. One of the biggest recommendations I have when it comes to affiliate marketing is that you always want to make sure you are aligned with the offer or product and that you're excited about sharing it and authentic when doing so. Another recommendation I have is to always disclose that you are using affiliate links. It is a good thing to be upfront about them, and in some cases/ locations you're legally required to do so.Tips for Getting OrganizedCreate a Google Sheet (easy!) for all of the affiliate programs you are already signed up for or a part ofMake columns for the name of the company, product/ service name, your login information, the unique URL that you're given that is specific to you, and any redirect you've created for this URL for your own website. (For example, I am an affiliate of Podia. My affiliate URL for Podia includes a long line of numbers and letters that is impossible to remember. So I created a redirect on my Squarespace website to make it easier for my audience to find what they are looking for, and easier for me to remember. So if you go to www.shediditherway.com/podia it will redirect you to my affiliate link.)There are so many ways to keep your affiliate links and information organized and this is just the tip of the iceberg. I also recommend creating a resource page on your website, keeping all of your recommended resources, with affiliate links, in one place on your website making it easy to find. Additionally you can create individual blog posts, highlighting each of them, digging deeper into why you recommend them. If you really want to exercise affiliate marketing and get into it, you need to make sure you're driving leads or eyeballs to those pages so that people are clicking on those links and purchasing as well. Another thing to consider is not to piggyback too many affiliate offers (unless that is your sole business) one after another. If you tend to recommend products or services back to back too frequently it becomes too much for your audience. I would rather recommend my top three programs that are really strategic and intentional, that I can focus my time and energy on when it comes to launching and marketing those programs rather than trying to do a bunch of different ones.I don't think there's a right or wrong way to go about this. This is just more of my personal experience with affiliate marketing. When it comes to affiliate programs that I've been part of it takes work. It's more than just throwing up a landing page and telling people about it once. You have to market the program or product. Until next time, keep doing it your way.  Insights:“So rather than a company paying for ads to market their product or service, you, as an individual become the marketing ‘arm' and because you market their product, you are compensated.”“Something thing to keep in mind about affiliate marketing is that it can really be a passive form of income.”“I would rather recommend my top three programs that are really strategic and intentional, that I can focus my time and energy on when it comes to launching and marketing those programs rather than trying to do a bunch of different ones.” Resources:Visit Pat Flynn's WebsiteCheck out one of Pat Flynn's Podcasts

After overcoming a challenging chapter in my family's story, I have become prepossessed with the idea of disaster-proofing my coaching business. Because when you're a business coach, you are essentially running a trade. When you're running a trade, all sorts of revenue-depleting shockers could happen: an accident, a disaster, or a pandemic. It is a scary thing to think about, but it's also the reality for all of us. Yet, it's okay to be terrified. After all, fear can be a productive emotion that can motivate you to put the necessary frameworks in place and disaster-proof your business. Today, I share my obsession with helping business coaches look after themselves, their family, and their businesses. I highlight a few action points you should be taking to not only to disaster-proof your business but also to scale from having a coaching job to having a coaching business. I also discuss how you can redesign your business beyond merely coaching, mentoring, or teaching for your clients—all of which require you to show up to them—so you can feel more at ease in challenging times. “Have a standalone, self-serve product. If I've learned anything from life it's that simple is better. Less is more. And that's true when it comes to staying organized in your coaching business. Find the full transcript for this episode at prosperouscoach.com/149I happen to be one of the most organized people I know. But I wasn't always like that.I also used to be a lousy money manager.I also used to be hopeless at writing.I also used to suck at managing people. So, no matter what you think you're hopeless at now, you can change that. You can grow into whoever you want to be and however you want to live your life. What changed those things for me? First, I stopped telling myself what I'm no good at.The harsh way you talk to yourself is the main habit to stop. You'll be so glad you did. It's a life skill. If I can do it, you can do it.Now try this … every time you think you're not good at something get curious.Curiosity is a powerful game changer. It quiets the amygdala – the part of your brain associated with fear. And then, attention and creativity take over. When you explore something with curiosity, dopamine — the reward chemical — floods your body and you feel good. And then you can easily get past the “way it used to be”.So, get organized coaches. It feels good. And it will mean you can serve clients better while you earn more.Template Everything You Can in Your Coaching BusinessThis is my secret weapon against the limits of time. Everything that can be templated in my business is templated. For example, I have a template for my Session Recap for clients. Of course, it's customized where it needs to be within the template so it's valuable for both of us.I have a template for typical responses to prospects' questions. But that's doesn't mean they don't come across as personalized. They do.I template processes. I have a 15-page Word document with 15 different processes I take my clients through in my Signature Program so I can cut and paste them into emails as we go along. My clients always say – I love how fast you respond. Part of it is about the templates.I also have pre-made guides for my clients to save us time in session. So ask yourself …What can be templated now to save me time later? And then be sure you create a place where it's easy to find and use the templates. Me? I have a folder in my email for Templates.Prep for Tomorrow and Next WeekThis may seem basic but you wouldn't believe how many people don't do this.Prep tomorrow today. Prep for next week at the end of this week.I have a master to-do list with 2 categories – Personal and Business. And it has tasks that need to be done soon and later. I pull from the master to-do list to partially create my plan for tomorrow and for next week. But here's the secret – my daily to-do list is super short. No more than 3 things. If I have extra time after completing the 3 things, I'll pick from the Master list tasks that will fit the time I have open.Ask yourself … What must be done tomorrow? What must be done next week? What will help me get ahead next week?To read the last of 3 organizational secrets find the full transcript here.

She Did It Her Way

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 18, 2021 16:28

Hello my beautiful friends, welcome back to another episode! This week I'm diving into a topic that I absolutely love and feel will be extremely helpful to so many listeners: how to handle objections. Sales is something that I think can be scary at times, but is absolutely necessary especially if you're a business owner. Learning how to sell with confidence is highly important, whether it's through customer conversations, sales calls, or learning how to sell in an online digital space using sales pages, landing pages, and through copy and content. But for the purposes of this episode, I want to focus on the piece of a sales conversation specifically if you are a coach, or if you have an offer that has some sort of sales call component to your sales process. When you get to the end of the sales call, or invite someone to sign up and actually pay you, this is the point when you typically meet resistance. Sometimes the objection is price. It could also be a timing issue, or that they simply don't have the bandwidth. There are a lot of objections and sometimes the default thinking is to think that each objection is different. One of the things that I have learned by leading training and experienced myself through sales conversations is that objections tend to be pretty universal. It's how we move through that objection and handle that objection in the moment, that will dictate the outcome of that sales call. What I have found most commonly happens with the sales conversation when an objection comes up is that we freeze up, get nervous or we start to ‘feature-dump', listing all of the features, bells, and whistles to our buyer. One of the top reasons that I have found is that they don't fully understand the value of the offer that you're presenting. They don't quite understand what your program or service does for them. Always make sure you touch on these:What is the benefit of your coaching program? Whether it's in a group, or whether it's one on one? What is the transformation that it will provide? What is the value that it offers? The second objection type is really a smokescreen over the actual objection/ problem and it is up to us to uncover and understand the true objection. For one reason or another, they aren't comfortable being fully honest with you about what is holding them back. The first thing I want you to learn to do instead is to take a moment and acknowledge. Empathize how they might feel and why they might feel the way that they feel. I recommend acknowledging how they feel, not by saying ‘I can understand', because that phrase can be very off putting in some situations.Instead try: “I see how you feel that way”. You'll experience a very different reaction because you are validating their feelings and letting them know that you're listening, rather than trying to sell them something. When we try to sell to them when they're not in a position of actually listening, we create more resistance. The second thing I want you to try when an objection comes up is to get curious. Get into discovery mode and start asking questions. Tell me a little bit more of what is the most important thing to you right now? What do you want to achieve in the next six to 12 months?Since timing is a problem now, what would make it the best time for you? What would need to be true in order for you to make it the best time, just so I understand? We want to clarify what is going on and when we can summarize back. This allows us to check our understanding of what they said to make sure that we are on the same page. When their resistance is lower and they aren't objecting, they're more likely to be open to listening. When their resistance is high, we don't want to keep pushing because our words will fall on deaf ears.As we empathize and get curious, we understand, restate, and summarize back to them what we heard. That lets us know that we're on the same page. Then we can proceed forward in how we want to respond. Maybe we bring up a few different points that we haven't discussed, or maybe we reiterate some of the benefits of the program and how it's going to help them overcome some of their objections. The last piece I want to offer you are the things that we can do to reduce the number of objections that we get. Think about your sales intake form. When someone signs up for a discovery or sales call with you, what are the questions that you are asking on that form? Do they provide you with significant information that will put you in a stronger position when you go into the sales meeting? Or are they vague questions such as ‘tell me about yourself'? Or , can you qualify people before hopping on a sales call? When we can qualify sooner at the top of the funnel, it makes it more efficient overall saving you time and energy. If you find that you are hearing the same objecting over and over - identify that and bring it up sooner during the call, rather than waiting until the end to address it. You can also optimize your FAQ's on your website. Put those objections in there along with your response. Lastly, figure out your mindset going into sales calls. Are you nervous, excited, steady/ grounded/ confident in your offer? Do you believe in your offer? If not, let's go back and look at your mindset. Remember, friends:Repetition builds confidence. We're not going to win them all, but if we can win one more out of 10, we can increase our conversion rate, thus increasing our revenue. Learning how to effectively sell with confidence takes time. It's not something we are born doing and we have to learn each step to get better and to keep moving that needle forward.Until next week, keep doing it your way! Insights:“One of the things that I have learned by leading training and experienced myself through sales conversations is that objections tend to be pretty universal.““As we empathize and get curious, we understand, restate, and summarize back to them what we heard. That lets us know that we're on the same page.”“Instead try: “I see how you feel that way”. You'll experience a very different reaction because you are validating their feelings and letting them know that you're listening, rather than trying to sell them something.”“Repetition builds confidence.”

Seven years ago, Mrs. Kimberley gave birth to our son Edward, a bouncing baby boy with curly hair and a big, bright smile. We enjoyed the first three months with him, wallowing in his brilliance and beauty, as all parents do, as he did things for the first time. Then, a visit to the pediatrician disrupted our world and turned it upside-down: we had to move from Malta back to the UK, stay there for a few months, and I - distraught as my child's life hung in the balance - couldn't show up to my coaching business. If you, as a coach, were in my situation, how would you react? If you had to wade through uncertainty, would your coaching business be able to keep you afloat? In this episode, I share a peek behind the scenes of my life as a coach seven years ago. I share the story of Edward's battle through a heart defect and how Mrs. Kimberley and I took care of him through his recovery. I discuss how this crisis impacted us and my coaching business. I explain why the difference between a coaching job and a coaching business matters. I also discuss how I communicated to my clients the situation I was in and illustrate how an act of kindness helped me overcome a very challenging time in our lives. “Professional coaches claim to be business owners when what they actually have are coaching jobs that require their attendance to get paid. That can be a dangerous position.” - Matthew Kimberley  This week on Book Yourself Solid® Marketing For Coaches Podcast: The birth of Edward, our bouncing baby boy Discovering Edward's heart defect and our return to the UK Managing Edward's recovery while taking care of Sam, our older son The difference between having a coaching job versus a coaching business Why having a coaching job is dangerous if you're the family breadwinner Communicating to my coaching clients and community my situation How an act of kindness kept me afloat at a time where I couldn't show up as a coach The uncertainty of relying on a single client A question you need to ponder upon as a coach Get More Clients in 60 Days! This episode is inspired by an excellent question posted by two coaches in my Facebook group called Prosperous Coach Club. Find the full transcript at prosperouscoach.com/148Before we dig into this, let's get on the same page …What is a Smart Coaching Niche? To me, a smart coaching niche has 3 clear components:1.     One unique viable target audience full of seekers – people who want to grow personally and professionally and are actively seeking solutions. Without this, it's hard to have a successful niche.2.     A strategic coaching business model built around what that audience urgently wants and the BIG problem that's in their way. If you don't know what will motivate investment for your audience you don't have a robust enough niche to earn well.3.     Your skills and talents applied to those other two things. This is more than just coaching skills. This is bringing forward all the skills and maybe even expertise that will make you credible to your audience – something that help you relate to them and them relate to you.A coaching niche is weak if one of more of those things is missing or not solid enough so it's worth it to take the time to develop a niche fully. And let me just stop the worries here … everyone has skills to bring to the table. I've never worked professionally with a coach that didn't have options for their niche based on the sum total of who they are. It's good to remember that coaching is a business and you need to operate in the marketplace. What do I mean by that? Your business needs to be more than selling coaching services. Unless you don't need to earn, you need to frequently grab the attention of and enroll clients who pay you well. That's not a casual thing for the long run. It's totally doable and some strategy is needed. One Coaching Business for One Well-Formed NicheI encourage my clients to develop one business built for the long term around one well-formed niche. Why limit it? Well, because two niches may very well feel like having two businesses, which is like having two full time jobs. No one really wants that.It comes down to what you can handle effectively. You may be able to do many things at once but is that the best life to live? Why not build a business that's sustainable for the long run?You might start out with two niches but somewhere along the way one will get more attention and the other will suffer unless there is some way to leverage the two. So let's talk about those possibilities. Two Different Audiences for Your CoachingTargeting two distinctly different audiences is not a good idea unless the two audiences are related in some easy way.To read the full transcript including 4 circumstances where two niches could work for you, go here.

It is going to blow your mind.In today's episode, I share all my quarter 3 wins and failures. I have had some of my highest highs and some of my lowest lows since starting my business this quarter. Nonetheless, I am so grateful for the direction that God has taken me.The beginning of the quarter was not easy.  I was having some doubts about where my business was and the direction I wanted it to take. But it was really that my spirit was unsettled because I was feeling that God wanted to do something new in my business. Then I realized what it was! I've known from the onset that I was called to serve doctors, women doctors, and more specifically, Black women doctors. But I had resisted because stepping out and niching down was scary. However, I had to clarify my message so that I could show up both powerfully and with certainty for my right clients. It required a lot of intentional internal work.  I had to go all-in on my mindsets and beliefs. I had to seek God relentlessly through the process.Eventually, I was able to relaunch my coaching program,  Purposed to Profit™ , relaunch my Facebook group and rebrand myself as the high ticket coach on Instagram.I was able to niche all the way down to serve Black women doctors who want to develop and confidently sell high ticket coaching programs and learn the secret to building a 6-figure (and beyond) coaching business from scratch. In the process, I was able to make 60K just in the month of September. And those are just some of the wins...In this episode, I share about:Being certain and being aligned in my business.Shifting my beliefs and mindset.Showing up in sufficiency versus scarcity.Tugboat energy versus lighthouse energy.Mentioned in this episode:My Q2 ReviewEpisode 084: Mindset Shifts You Need To Make If You Want To Be a High Ticket Coach********************************************************************Apply to join Purposed to Profit™ Elite: Group Coaching Program by clicking HERE and we'll discuss how we can work together.Join my FREE private Facebook Group The High-Ticket Doc™| High-Ticket Coaching For Women Doctors by clicking HERE and you'll access my Free training on The Secret to High-Ticket as a Brand New Coach.

Ed goes in-depth about how to avoid message-to-market mismatch and what to look out for when talking to hot versus cold prospects. It all comes down to being obsessed with your market NOT your product or service.Through his copywriting and marketing work, Ed Reay has helped his clients bring in over $12.3 million in just four years through authentic marketing. Today's episode is inspired by a sticky question. Do you really need to be certified in order to say that you're a professional coach? Find the full transcript for this episode at prosperouscoach.com/147It's a sticky question because there are two camps — the yeas and nays — and both have strong opinions.I say … whether you certify or not is your decision. 2 Types of Coach Certification1.    Certifying through a coach training organization. You enroll, complete training and certify through a review process when training is complete.2.    Independent certification such as through the International Coach Federation (ICF). You work towards it by completing requirements and paying an application fee. You'll need a certain number of hours of paid coaching, completed training with an accredited organization, and being mentored by people who are certified at the master level. To maintain or advance ICF certification you have to re-up every few years and also take continuing education courses. It's a significant ongoing investment in time and money.By the way, the ICF and other certifying bodies often change requirements for the various levels of certification. So, if you're on route to certify, stay in touch with the requirements so you're not blindsided by changes.Independent certification helps to mature emerging fields and garner acceptance in the marketplace. ICF launched in 1995, when life coaching was a new concept, and now has a presence in 140 countries and over 30,000 members. There is a segment of the coaching industry that will firmly say YES, that you must be certified to be considered a professional coach. I've softened on this over the years, which I'll cover more later. 5 Main Reasons Proponents Give to Independently CertifyReason #1    Coaches who certify are more likely to earn more and not drop out of the profession.Reason #2    Certification distinguishes you from all the people who co-opt the term 'coach' but who have not been rigorously trained.Reason #3    Maintaining certification requires you to stay in tune with best practices.I'll chime in here. Independent certification does not necessarily mean you'll earn more.Your income as a coach largely depends on your chosen target audience, how you charge for your offers and your ability to market and enroll.Reason #4    The public will perceive you as being a more skilled coach if you're certified.Reason #5    Your clients will require it.Credibility largely depends on how you conduct yourself. And most clients do not require or even know about certification. In my 20 years in the industry, none of my potential or actual clients has ever asked me if I was certified. And, I've checked recently with experienced coaches. We agree that for most niches the client does not require or even ask about certification. The Bottom Line About Certifying As a CoachIf you go into the executive or leadership coaching track where you'll provide services to people within corporations, coaches that are ICF certified or with another independent body are much more likely have a competitive edge. Organizations know to ask about it.For many other tracks, niches and audiences, being certified is a non-issue.So here's what I tell my clients ... why not work towards certification? To read my advice for coaches and see the rest of the transcipt, go here.

Find the full transcript of this episode at prosperouscoach.com/146My podcast has revolutionized my business and also given me great joy.I posted a blog for over 8 years and it was hugely instrumental in attracting ideal clients to my services. But it was never as impactful as my podcast has been. I think it's because listeners hear my voice weekly so there's more of a sense of intimacy. People feel like they get to know me in ways that can't come across only in words on a page. And because my episodes are short and I'm consistent about putting out a weekly episode I have a lot of binge listeners. Isn't that fun! When I have a Discovery Call with a coach who wants to enroll in my 5 month VIP program, they often say: “You sound just like you do on your podcast!” That's reassuring to them. Some of the joy factor is in putting my voice out there. I say what I think and feel.Your voice is more than just sounds and words —it's an integral part of who you are. When you speak up and speak out you're stepping fully into your personal power. It's almost impossible to be anything but authentic when you show up weekly with your voice on air.I didn't expect the satisfaction of putting my voice out there. I can stumble over words, just be myself and my audience is forgiving. I can tell you personal things about myself and know that I'm relating not burdening. It's connective not self-deprecating.And I get so much positive feedback. It's nourishing to know that my philosophy, guidance and truth telling resonates with so many coaches. A few coaching training organizations suggest my podcast to their students. I know I'm helping people who will never hire me. And that's gratifying. But I also know that people I'm meant to work with will hire me and we're likely to start our journey with a deeper understanding between us.And when people reach out and fill out the application on my Work with Rhonda page of my website, they are 99% ready to enroll. Wow! No other form of messaging or marketing has brought me that kind of ease. And then there's the accessibility piece. People in over 100 countries hear my podcast and that's growing. So what is a podcast? You might have listened but not really known what a podcast is. It's similar to a radio show but it's delivered online in episodes that can be experienced on demand rather than by tuning into a specific station at a specific time. Listeners can subscribe to a podcast through apps they download onto their phone like Apple Podcast, Stitcher, iHeartRadio and other directories who, at this point, all offer free listening accounts and downloadable apps.
