"Why art thou cast down, O my soul?" The psalmist does not wait for his feelings to turn; he speaks to his own soul, holds it accountable, and commands it to hope in God while God says nothing back. There is only one place a man can bring a cast down soul and reason with it, and that is the Word of God.

WISDOM FROM GOD. 1 Corinthians 1:20–25; 2:9–16 KJV What is the difference between knowledge and wisdom? Knowledge is knowing information. Wisdom is knowing what to do with that information. Godly wisdom is seeing life from God's perspective and responding according to His truth. In this second session of Essentials for Christian Living, we discover that God's wisdom stands in sharp contrast to the wisdom of this world. What fallen humanity may consider foolish, God uses to reveal His power and accomplish His purposes. Paul reminds us that spiritual truth cannot be fully understood through human intellect alone. God has given believers His Holy Spirit, who reveals and teaches the things of God. Believers have access to the wisdom of God because we have the Spirit of God. This lesson challenges us to move beyond simply accumulating biblical information. God wants His truth to transform the way we think, make decisions, respond to circumstances, and live before others.The world offers information. Human reasoning offers opinions. But God's Word, illuminated by God's Spirit, gives us the wisdom we need to live the Christian life.

FELLOWSHIP WITH BELIEVERS. LIVING LIKE THE CHURCH. [Why Lone-Ranger Christians Never Win the Battle.] 1 Corinthians 1:1–13 (KJV)In the opening chapter of 1 Corinthians, Paul reminds us that God never intended Christians to live in isolation. Every believer has been saved into God's family, enriched by His grace, gifted for His service, and called to protect the unity of the local church. In a world filled with loneliness, division, and confusion, this study points us back to Jesus Christ—the Head of the Church—and shows that healthy fellowship is essential for healthy Christian living. As we walk closer to Christ, we also grow closer to one another, becoming the church God designed us to be.

Heidelberg Catechism Question 26 teaches that God Almighty created all things through the Son and by the power of the Holy Spirit. God created the world freely, by His Word, out of nothing, in perfect wisdom, over six days, and He continues to uphold and govern all things by His providence. Sadly, many Christians and mainline Protestant denominations have compromised the doctrine of creation. They try to blend the Bible with evolution, and have put forth several different theories: • Day-Age Theory: that the "days" of creation were actually long periods of time. • Punctuated Day Theory: the days of creation were ordinary days, but there were long periods between the six days. • Gap Theory: is similar, but holds that there was a long interval of time between Genesis 1:1 and 1:3–31 • Framework Theory: claims that the "days" of creation have nothing to do with time. Instead, the language of Genesis is figurative or symbolic rather than literal. Why do they come up with such unbiblical theories? One reason is that they are embarrassed that the Bible says the earth/universe is only 6,000 years old. They do not believe in the power and wisdom of God. In the Bible, we see that God made many things old when they were new, such as Adam being made as an adult, and making both stars and starlight (which appears old) at the same time. For a Christian to embrace any form of evolution, or doubt that God made the heavens and the earth in six days, means that they have a problem. Not with science and its theories, but with God. Their God is too small and too weak. This is not the God of the Bible.

Waiting on the Lord is not idleness — the man who waits is the man who cries out to God while he works, and keeps on crying out. He heard the cry, brought him up out of the horrible pit, set his feet upon a rock, and established his goings.

"And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot" — and the Lord said, "Loose him, and let him go." There are professing believers who crawled back into the tomb, living the old way, holding a dead profession that never fed on the Word of God. Hear the voice of the Son of God call you out: "I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live."

This is a wonderful promise that is distorted by MOST Bible teachers, denominations and cults. So, we will refute several of those distortions while emphasizing what the text actually SAYS... The high priest meant murder when he said one man should die for the people, but he spake not of himself, and God turned a wicked mouth to prophesy that Christ should die for the nation. Man plots his place and his power while God ordains the shed blood that gathers His scattered children into one. That salvation is held out to you now in the Word made flesh, received by a faith that does not draw back.

What is the meaning of the Lord's Supper? The history of denominations divides at this point. With a congregation marked by Baptists, Presbyterians, Reformed, Anglican and a few visiting Catholics the pastor makes the case for this practice being more than a memorial, but not an act that sees the meaning in the physical elements.

"For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin." David did not hide the sin that rotted his flesh — he confessed it before a holy God who chastens what He loves. The LORD is nigh unto the broken heart, and far from the proud who cover their sin and call themselves covered forever.

The numbers don't lie: denominations that ordained women first lost their members fastest, with the PC (U.S.A.) on track for a 95% decline by 2050. The SBC and PCA both voted this year to shut down women pastors and deacons — but will it be enough? From morning till evening Paul preached the kingdom of God and persuaded them concerning Jesus, out of the law of Moses and out of the prophets. Some believed, and some believed not — and to those who would not hear he gave the old word of Isaiah: hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand. The salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and they will hear it.

"I am the resurrection and the life." Not a promise reserved for the last day — a Person to be believed on now, this hour. He that believeth in Him, though he were dead, yet shall he live; and whosoever liveth and believeth in Him shall never die.

We are into a section of God's word that has, in practice in most churches and tragically across entire denominations, been forgotten or ignored in our generation. It has become the norm to think that in order for the Church of our Lord Jesus Christ to grow, we have to be innovative in what we do. Many seminaries have been telling students to figure out what the felt needs of people are, and to build a ministry around meeting those needs. That pragmatic mindset tragically ignores the fact that God's word tells us what our real need is, and it is not what most people "feel." The truth is that it doesn't matter what I feel. What matters is that I understand my need to be reconciled to God from whom I am alienated by sin. This portion of God's word, indeed the whole book of 2 Timothy, is not hard to understand. It's not esoteric. It's not abstract. It is bold and direct, and it tells us what God wants from His Church and its leaders. Church is not meant to entertain, and it's not meant primarily to address unbelievers. It is for the people of God to worship Him in spirit and in truth, so they are equipped to take the gospel to the world. As we have been seeing paragraph by paragraph, there are direct and clear commands we must heed. In our passage, there are four more imperatives which help frame it for us. If you ever wonder what is required to be approved to God, you need wonder no more. The answer is in our passage, which is built around the four imperatives. 1 - Remind (14) 2 - Be Diligent (15) 3 - Avoid (16-18) 4 - Abstain (19)

A righteous man's stumble is not the fall of the apostate preacher cast down before God's own eyes — it is a sin confessed, and a Father who lifts His child by the hand. But a man can turn away from God, and the end of the wicked is to be cut off, consumed away into smoke.

The Church PT1.What comes to mind when you hear the word "church"? Many people think of a building, a denomination, or a Sunday event. But the Bible teaches that the church is much more than a place we attend—it is a people God has called together for His glory.In this first lesson, we discover that the church was not man's idea but God's eternal plan. Before Bethlehem, Calvary, or Pentecost, God already envisioned a redeemed people who would belong to Him.
