Send us Fan MailWe continue our discussion of the Roman Catholic Church's various doctrines that are not found in the New Testament. We begin by discussing Extreme Unction which is anointing a person who is about to die. We next discuss the use of instrumental music which was added in 666AD. We note 15 Catholic doctrines and when they were established. We close out this study by noting that the Catholic Church began after the first century as a result of the apostacy the apostles said would occur, and its organizational structure is foreign to the New Testament pattern. Consequently, it cannot be the Church Jesus built. We move on to the next denomination on our list, which is the Lutheran church. We note when it dates from and why this can be said. We talk about why what Martin Luther did is so important to understand. As a result of his studies, he came to the conclusion that the Catholic Church had many errors in what it did. Consequently, he nailed 95 theses to the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany in 1517. We close out this episode by mentioning his greatest objections to what the Catholic Church was doing. Take about 30-minutes to listen in on our discussion. In the next episode of Denominations in Conversation Ben talks with the Rev. Dr. Ephraim Radner, professor emeritus of historical theology at Wycliffe College, about the history and identity of the Anglican Church. Radner traces the fascinating history of Anglicanism from Henry VIII to the formation of the Book of Common Prayer. They explore the role of prayer and Scripture, and how these shaped everyday life in England through the Reformation era.
Jason and Dan DeGraff kick off the Messy Reformation's annual Synod coverage with a breakdown of the convening session of Synod 2026. The convening session is mostly a warm-up — an hour of tech troubleshooting and a chance for delegates to find their footing before the real work begins. But it ends with the one piece of business that, year after year, tells you more about where Synod is headed than almost anything else: the election of officers. Chad Steenwyk is president. Derek Buikema is vice president. Jose Reyes is first clerk. Dave Tenclay is second clerk. Jason's point is not the names themselves but what it means that none of these names is a surprise. Four years ago, the idea that a leader of the Abide Project could be elected president of Synod would have been unthinkable — anyone associated with Abide carried what Jason calls the black mark of the plague. Now it just makes sense. That, he argues, is the single most important thing this episode is about: the fog of reformation makes it easy to forget how far the CRC has actually moved. Dan brings the numbers and the texture. Over 100 new delegates this year — close to 58 percent of the floor — which is roughly the pattern of the last several synods. He and Jason talk about why the convening session matters even when it looks like nothing happens, why around 25 absent delegates is worth a gentle rebuke, and what it means that the delegates got behind strong confessional leaders right out of the gate. They engage Paul VanderKlay's recent video predicting that the pendulum has swung about as far as it will, and Jason pushes back: he thinks Synod is increasingly willing to take the reins on things like the Calvin Seminary presidency precisely because trust in the institution has been lost. The conversation closes on demographics that complicate any simple read — the confessional fire Jason has seen among Korean, Hispanic, and Venezuelan delegates, the talk of a new Classis Lone Star out of Hispanic church plants in Texas, and the continued decline in women delegates. The hosts commit to a few coverage episodes during Synod rather than daily updates, and Jason ends where the podcast always ends: this is Christ's church, he bought it with his blood, so keep watch on your life and doctrine and keep fighting the good fight in this messy reformation. Send us Fan MailWe continue our study of denominations by looking at the Roman Catholic Church, it's origin, organization, authority and doctrine. We find it impossible to locate a specific date as the beginning of the Roman Catholic Church or a specific founder of it. We do know that the Roman Catholic Church is the result of a general departure from the divine pattern of organization, doctrine, worship, and work given by Jesus Christ through His apostles as contained in the New Testament. This departure began soon after the death of the last apostle. The New Testament revealed that such a departure would occur and we discuss the passages the apostles wrote predicting it. So, the Roman Catholic Church is an apostate church which has some doctrines that are over 1800 years old and some that are not even a century old. We note the first Pope and what the Catholic Catechism says about that. We discuss the organization of the Catholic Church and the members of that organization. We look at it's basic authority according to it's Catechism of Christian Doctrine on page 44 and other locations in that document. We again note that the Bible teaches that the New Testament is the complete and final revelation of God. We discuss those Bible passages that say so. We will begin the next episode by looking at the primary beliefs and doctrines of the Roman Catholic Church. Take about 30 - minutes to listen in on our conversations. Have your Bible handy so you can verify what we are saying. There is a transcript of this Buzzsprout episode provided for your convenience.
Episode 219: Hebrews vs Denomination: Simply put, is Hebrew a denomination? While to the Hebrew the answer is obvious, to others the question may not be clear. In the next episode of the Denominations in Conversation podcast series, Ben sits down with Dr. Anna Robbins, President of Acadia Divinity College, to discuss what it means to be a Baptist: Baptist ethics, views on Scripture, the role of baptism, and the autonomy of the church.Whether you're looking to learn more or just seeking more theological depth, join us for an insightful discussion.
Part two of our Synod 2026 preview goes after the bones: who has authority to discipline, what the church owes the state, what the church even is, and why confessional integrity at every level isn't a bonus — it's the basic ask. The technical density of these overtures hides deeply theological questions, and the answers will shape the future of the CRCNA. Jason, Dan, and Willy work through the discipline-of-office-bearers task force and the Canadian-law pushback in Overtures 34 and 36, where pragmatism keeps trying to override principle. Then Christian nationalism: Overture 25 from Grand Rapids East, a public reading of Belgic Confession Article 36, and Willy connecting it to the Lord's Prayer. Classis Wisconsin's Overture 33 on Reformed ecclesiology gets the case it deserves — the study committee we actually need. The gravamen overtures are dispatched with the contempt they earn for being out of order. The home stretch is confessional alignment: every employee a member of a CRC, every adjunct faculty member at Calvin Seminary signing the covenant for office bearers, the next Calvin Seminary president confessionally aligned and passionately Reformed — and synod prepared to reject any candidate who isn't. Synod has the authority. Stop apologizing for using it. Christ is still building his church, and we are ambassadors of his kingdom. Who or what are Christian disciples of? That's the question every Christian through the ages must be able answer clearly and succinctly. But for centuries, many have put undue emphases on denominational emphases. And now, political and cultural issues have crowded onto the platform of matters of grave concern for self-professing Christians. Denomination Reconciliation by NoLimits Church - Sunday Messages
A lot of people say they want “more unity” in Christianity, right up until someone follows Jesus outside their preferred tribe. We start with Luke 9 and a line that still stings our pride: “Anyone who is not against you is for you.” From there, we wrestle with the impulse to police the kingdom, the temptation to treat denominations like a salvation requirement, and the simple truth that Jesus never outsourced your trust to a label. We also spend time in Ephesians 5:22–33 because Christian marriage is one of the clearest places where selective obedience shows up. The passage calls wives to respect and submit as to the Lord and calls husbands to love with sacrificial care like Christ loves the church. You cannot toss out one command as “old-fashioned” while keeping the other. If we want stronger marriages inside the church, we have to stop pretending the hard parts do not apply. Then we go to Psalm 73, a brutally honest prayer for anyone who has looked around and felt envy when the wicked seem to prosper. The psalm does not hide the bitterness, but it also does not end there. Perspective returns in God's presence, and hope gets grounded again. We close with American heritage reflections on morality and liberty, and a clear conviction that still stands: spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ is the best thing we can do, no matter what happens to a nation. If this helped you, subscribe, share it with a friend, and leave a review so more people can find the show.#Foundingfathers #CharlesCarol#Dailyscripture Support the showThe American Soul Podcasthttps://www.buzzsprout.com/1791934/subscribeCountryside Book Serieshttps://www.amazon.com/Countryside-Book-J-T-Cope-IV-ebook/dp/B00MPIXOB2

Send us Fan MailIn this episode of The Caffeinated Christian, we tackle two conversations that are exposing deeper cracks in the modern Church.First, we break down the recent interaction between Mike Winger and Sean Feucht—including the now-viral accusation involving a message Feucht allegedly sent to himself and used to implicate Winger and journalist Julie Roys. But this isn't just about online drama. It raises serious questions about accountability, truthfulness, and how Christian leaders respond to critique in the age of platforms. Then, we zoom out to examine a Mainline Christian Denomination's recent statement supporting access to gender-affirming care for minors. What does this reveal about the shifting theological landscape? Where is the line between compassion and compromise? And who ultimately has the authority to define human identity—culture or Scripture? These two stories may seem unrelated, but they're deeply connected. This episode explores the tension between truth and tone, conviction and compassion, boldness and humility—and why the future credibility of the Church depends on getting this right. If you care about biblical faithfulness, cultural clarity, and the integrity of Christian witness, this is a conversation you don't want to miss.Read "What Is It Like to Be a Bat?" by Thomas Nagel: https://www.sas.upenn.edu/~cavitch/pdf-library/Nagel_Bat.pdfTopics Covered:Accountability in Christian leadershipThe rise of platform-driven ministryDiscernment in the charismatic movementGender identity and theological anthropologyThe authority of Scripture in a shifting cultureCHAPTERS: 00:00:02 - Welcome to the Caffeinated Christian Podcast00:04:29 - Testing Spiritual Claims and Accountability00:08:09 - Sean's Self-Sent Message and Reputation Damage00:11:29 - AI-Generated Prayers in Church Services00:13:45 - Written vs. Spontaneous Prayer in Services00:15:16 - Leadership Accountability and Scriptural Authority in Churches00:18:51 - Methodist Bishop on Transgender Rights and Creation00:21:21 - Nuance in Gender Healthcare Policy Debate00:23:34 - Body Integrity and Medical Interventions for Minors00:26:01 - Biblical Perspective on Gender and Identity00:31:03 - Truth and Compassion on Gender Identity00:34:42 - Gender Identity and Physical Transformation Logic00:37:37 - Parenting Faith in a Changing World Read "What is it Like to be a Bat?" by Thomas NagelSupport the show

Episode 2.86In this episode, Michael and Zach apply the same standard used in the Mormonism discussion to another major movement: Jehovah's Witnesses. The question is not about sincerity or moral seriousness. It is about theology. Does Jehovah's Witness doctrine align with historic, creedal Christianity—or does it depart from it at a foundational level? We examine official Watchtower and JW.org sources on authority, the Trinity, the nature of the Holy Spirit, and the identity of Jesus Christ. Jehovah's Witnesses explicitly reject Nicene Trinitarianism, deny the full deity of Christ, identify Jesus with Michael the Archangel, and describe the Holy Spirit as an impersonal force. Using their own New World Translation, we walk through key biblical texts—including Isaiah 42–48, John 1, John 17, Philippians 2, and Hebrews 1—to evaluate whether these claims cohere with Scripture. We also address distinctive teachings on salvation, the 144,000, the new birth, organizational exclusivity, and the nature of the soul. The cumulative question becomes unavoidable: if the identity of God, the person of Christ, and the structure of salvation are redefined, does the movement remain within Christianity—or does it constitute a separate religion using Christian vocabulary? The episode concludes by clarifying that the issue is not tone or intention, but doctrinal definition. By classical Christian standards, the differences are structural, not secondary.Find our videocast here: https://youtu.be/qb61zxXnEpwMerch here: https://take-2-podcast.printify.me/Music from #Uppbeat (free for Creators!):https://uppbeat.io/t/reakt-music/deep-stoneLicense code: 2QZOZ2YHZ5UTE7C8Find more Take 2 Theology content at http://www.take2theology.com
Only one denomination in the United States has grown consistently. Drawing from nearly fifty years of data, Ryan Burge's analysis shows a denomination that has not only maintained stability but also demonstrated resilience, growth, and demographic vitality. From membership and attendance trends to conversion inflows and racial diversity, the Assemblies of God presents a statistical profile that is almost entirely positive, even after the shock of COVID-19. While many traditions wrestle with long-term decline, the Assemblies of God appears poised for continued strength. Episode 2.84In this episode, Michael and Zach examine a foundational question: Is Mormonism a denomination of Christianity, or a distinct religion? The discussion moves beyond sincerity or moral character and focuses on theological definitions and historical continuity. They begin by clarifying key terms—what constitutes historic, creedal Christianity, and what defines a denomination. From there, the conversation analyzes LDS primary sources, particularly on the doctrine of God, the nature of the Godhead, and the concept of monotheism. While Mormonism uses Christian vocabulary, it explicitly rejects Nicene Trinitarianism and affirms three distinct divine beings united in purpose rather than essence. The episode also explores Joseph Smith's restoration narrative, the claim of a Great Apostasy, and the logical implications of declaring historic Christian creeds “an abomination.” Further distinctions are examined in LDS teachings on pre-mortal existence, eternal marriage, exaltation, and the nature of salvation.Key questions addressed include:• What makes a group a “denomination” rather than a separate religion?• Is shared terminology the same as shared theology?• Can monotheism be redefined without altering Christianity's foundation?• How does the LDS restoration claim reshape the entire Christian narrative? The conclusion is not rooted in polemics, but in doctrinal clarity: by its own authoritative teachings, Mormonism departs from historic Christianity at foundational points concerning God, Christ, and salvation. The disagreement is not secondary—it concerns the core of the faith itself.Find our videocast here: https://youtu.be/nLPVsd6obkAMerch here: https://take-2-podcast.printify.me/Music from #Uppbeat (free for Creators!):https://uppbeat.io/t/reakt-music/deep-stoneLicense code: 2QZOZ2YHZ5UTE7C8Find more Take 2 Theology content at http://www.take2theology.com

Ever been told you need a specific denomination to be saved? We cut through that noise with a clear claim: salvation rests on faith in Jesus Christ, not on a brand, a gatekeeper, or a lineage. From there, we trace a thread that binds personal faith, covenant love, national gratitude, and moral courage into a single, compelling call to live what we believe. We open with Song of Solomon 8 and its fierce declaration that many waters cannot quench love. It's a picture of marriage that resists the disposable mindset of our age, urging us to prize covenant, protect intimacy, and treat love as a trust more valuable than wealth. Then we turn to Revelation 9, where startling images expose a deeper reality: even under judgment, hardened hearts cling to idols. That warning lands in the present day—sports, screens, politics, status—showing how modern life can sanctify distractions. Repentance is the way back to joy, not a word for other people but an urgent practice for us.History steps in to steady the frame. President Ulysses S. Grant's Thanksgiving and Christmas messages invite a nation to gratitude, peace, and goodwill—public disciplines that recalibrate our common life. We honor courage through the Medal of Honor story of Otto A. Boehler, whose charge across a burning bridge under fire embodies duty at cost. Together, these moments challenge us to align belief with action: confess Christ as the only mediator, build marriages that endure storms, resist idols that dull the soul, and choose courage when it counts. If this conversation moves you, share it with a friend, leave a review, and subscribe so you don't miss what's next. There are many men and women way smarter than I will ever be but that doesn't make their teaching right. I want to challenge you to read the bible for yourself and not study another man's teaching and take it as gospel. Since the 1500s, man has fought and divided over teachings that are not from God, they are simply man's ideas. Hundreds of denominations have formed from these teachings but before these teachings there was one church with one message. Paul said there is one foundation, Jesus, and we are to be careful on how we build upon that foundation. He also makes it clear there are things that Timothy, as well as us, are to do. We discuss these things in the second half of 2 Timothy.

BIBLICAL WORLDVIEW Week 1 – The Foundation of Truth A True Story: In 1999, NASA lost a $125 million Mars Climate Orbiter. Why? One team used the metric system, another used English measurements. The spacecraft was perfectly built, but it was operating on the wrong standard. A tiny difference in “what seemed right” to one team ended in destruction and destroyed the mission. The lesson? Without the right standard, even the smartest people end up in failure. What is a worldview? (Lens → shapes beliefs, decisions, priorities). A WORLDVIEW is the LENS YOU SEE LIFE THROUGH Here's how it works: Beliefs → Decisions → Outcomes If you don't like your outcomes, look at your decisions. If you don't like your decisions, examine your beliefs. If your beliefs are not anchored in God's truth, they will mislead you. Christian vs. Biblical Worldview (tradition vs. Scripture). Definition: CHRISTIAN WORLDVIEW: A set of beliefs held by those who profess to be Christian—sometimes shaped by culture, tradition, politics, or personal preference rather than God's Word. BIBLICAL WORLDVIEW: Seeing and interpreting all of life—morality, relationships, purpose, money, politics, work, suffering, eternity—through the lens of Scripture. God's Word defines truth, not opinion, not society, not feelings. A CHRISTIAN WORLDVIEW may be SHAPED BY TRADITION, DENOMINATION, OR CULTURE. A BIBLICAL WORLDVIEW is ROOTED IN GOD'S WORD. [JESUS PRAYS…] John 17:17 (NLT) Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth. BIG IDEA: Everyone has a worldview—it's the lens you see life through. But only a BIBLICAL WORLDVIEW is built on God's unchanging truth. Why it matters (Proverbs 14:12 — “seems right” leads to destruction). Foundational Text: Proverbs 14:12 (NLT) – “There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death.” Proverbs 14:12 warns: What “SEEMS RIGHT” can STILL LEAD TO DEATH. Psalm 18:30 “This God—his way is perfect; the word of the Lord proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him.” Psalm 18:30 says God's Word is PERFECT and PROVES TRUE. God's Word is perfect, trustworthy, proven. God's Word is the perfect “flight manual” for life. 2 Timothy 3:16–17 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 17 God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work. ACTION STEPS: Believe God's Word is FINAL AUTHORITY. Commit to DAILY BIBLE READING. Test EVERY DECISION AGAINST SCRIPTURE. Ask: “AM I LIVING BY TRUTH, or BY WHAT SEEMS RIGHT?” Invitation (Romans 10:9–10): Build your life on Jesus—the Living Word.

So the ebike is a brick in the back of my Rav4, but it still works like a normal bike, so let's keep going! But a sudden realization may provide the solution to unlock all the battery goodness, just as another stunning discovery makes me realize, this trip's Plan B was all meant to be. Lake Ontario 2025 - Part 3 Hotel pack-up & quick diagnosis Morning in Oswego, NY. Realizes the motor cut-off is just a loose brake-lever magnet. Simple electrical/duct-tape fix brings the e-bike back to life. Route planning & launch Scraps the closed Cape Vincent ferry idea decides to drive the east shore of Lake Ontario, scouting state parks and quieter wildlife areas instead of sticking to busy parks. Lake-side stops Quick visit to Black Pond Wildlife Management Area (too restricted for bikes). Heads north to Westcott Beach State Park for a short beach walk, photos, and a quick battery test run. Drive to Canada Long detour to the Thousand Islands bridge (the only open crossing) because the south-end Wolf Island ferry is closed. Smooth Canadian customs stop; grabs ice cream and activates a Canadian eSIM for data. Kingston → Wolf Island ferry Misses the boat by two cars; 80-minute wait becomes a snack-and-people-watch session. Free ferry ride over; hotel is literally a block from the dock. Marysville check-in Rustic ground-floor room, lake view, no A/C needed. Drops bags, scopes dinner options (hotel café). Evening e-bike shake-down 14-mile out-and-back along Route 95 to the shuttered U.S. ferry dock on the south tip. Cruises at ~20 mph, marvels at wind turbines, farmland scenery, and micro-climates. Confirms minimal battery draw and re-affirms “twice the speed, half the effort” mantra. Wrap-up reflections Happy the brake glitch happened early—it forced a car assist and avoided being stranded. Wolf Island deemed a stellar, low-traffic cycling spot; sets intentions for next day's ride and keeps an eye on looming Toronto weather. Statistics Miles biked 15 Closed ferry terminals visited 2 Open ferry terminals visited 2 Missed ferries 1 Denomination of Canadian currency that may or may not smell like maple syrup unless the bartender was trolling me 50 Flats 0

In today's episode on 5th June 2025, we take a look at why the government wants to roll out more lower denomination notes and what that means for you and the economy at large.
In this episode of The Cordial Catholic, I'm joined by my friend author, podcaster, and former Episcopalian priest Andrew Petiprin to talk unpack one of the biggest misconceptions about the Catholic Church: that Catholicism is simply another Christian denomination. With aplomb, charity, and with Scripture and the history books in hand, Andrew explains exactly what's wrong with thinking of Catholicism as just another denomination, why that matters, and why it's abundantly clear from history and Scripture that the Catholic Church is unique in a sea of Christian choices.Plus, we unpack the danger of thinking of the Church as an institution, the notion of the "rules" of Catholicism, and so much more. For more from Andrew listen to his complete conversion story way back on Episode 69 of the podcast. You can find Andrew's book, Faith Unboxed at Catholic Answers or any fine bookseller.
